A true gem of Ohio history and Native American history. There is nothing similar throughout Ohio. Wonderful overlook and trails. Great place to spend quality family time. Look up Ohio Historical places.

Museum seems small but contains a wealth of artifacts and information!

Amy Terrell

Interesting place and nice place to hike

Eelco Galestien

Nice trails for hiking and learning about the history of the site along the way. Friendly staff. The museum was educational but a bit gloomy. If you see a school bus on the parking lot, it is not the best time to go in as it can get crowded.

JR. Gutierrez

Great place to Learn about the native American of this region, with a beautiful park and trails, bring comfortable shoes you will walk a lot!

Lisa Stewart

Fun and educational for families with school age children.

Anna Kendig

Really great museum and SUPER interesting site. museum has overall quite good, helpful, and responsible interpretation about the wider scope of history related to indigenous peoples of the Ohio area, but a focuses on those who lived on "Fort Ancient" - this hilltop settlement and sacred landscape. Good for families, as there are a good amount of interactive elements in the museum.Take time for the museum, for sure, as the driving tour alone really doesnt give a good picture of what you're seeing (getting out and walking is even better). Hope to return in growing season, as they have an example of indigenous Woodland-era farming in their outdoor museum area.

A little historical nugget that most of us overlook it's right out there to be seen but there's very little information out there to draw your attention to it it's worth the trip to go see and learn about ancient indigenous peoples of North America and how they developed and their culture and the similarities in their culture to other cultures around the world

Cousin was visiting and wanted to go to Fort Ancient, we went to museum. $7 per person. The ladies that check you in are very informative. The details of Ohio and where all Indians lived are really fun facts to learn. Ohio has alot of history. Good place to do walks, picnic. Views spectacular.. who would have thought that Ohio had special place tucked away

Visit here immediately! Amazing new archeological evidence is being discovered, it's even more awe inspiring then you've known until now. Part of the Dayton Natural History Society, well worth the fee if you don't have a membership. Archeology day in July is living history at it's finest.

Good museum & outdoor exhibits / attractions for a small park. Master Gardener exhibits near museum - which are NOT furnished / run by or funded by the park had not been maintained. I was disappointed that I could not learn what the plants looked like that were used for food b.c.e. there were too many weeds.

Laura Roman

Loved the history here.

David Hoffmann

Very interesting. Alot of new stuff.

Mark Heinowski

This is a hidden gem just north of Cincinnati. There is a really nice museum that has an interactive area for your kids (big or small) and some really nice artifacts and history about the location. It is way bigger than you first realize and there are plenty of hiking and biking trails to offer here. I love the scenic views. Very relaxing and beautiful. I would definitely visit this location again and prob would enjoy it more in the summer. We visited in late November. The grounds were wet so we had to dodge mud while walking. Make this a stop to view some natural beauty and detailed history about the area.

Greg Bogan

Really cool museum as well as a huge forest reserve with really nice hiking trails. It is located by the little Miami river valley. They scenery is amazing as well as some of the artifacts. There are other attractions including Canoe rentals bike trails and a tons more. 15 min away you can take airplane rides. Must see for sure.

What a cool place! We didn't hike much but we ended up going on the first day of Fall so they were doing Harvest cooking demonstrations! I didn't get any photos of the demos but it was very informative and the people who work there really have a passion to teach! The one photo is a view from one of the trails that we just passed by.

nick H,

Picked up a nice fella who needed a ride out here to do some hiking and camping when I was on my way home from work one day. Real nice guy. He liked my Miata too. I believe he was a Airborne Veteran. Glad I could help him. I hope he had fun but I think I spooked him a little on the twisty roads out there. Hahaha.

Steven Harbeck

Great place.very Educational

A great place to hike and stretch your legs if you are ever in Southwest Ohio. This is Ohio's first state park and a National Historic Landmark. It boasts huge Indian mounds that encircle a ridge above the Little Miami River. This is the largest Mound site in our country. The trails are short but stump some of them are very Steep and over some excellent elevation changes. The beauty is in the history there's also a Stone Tavern from 1802. The museum is fantastic. Just down the road there's a Canoe Livery if you'd like to take a swim in the little Miami. There's also a bike path that follows along the old railroad that goes along the river if you'd like to take a bike ride for a day. It's just a wonderful place to enjoy a day.

Len Whitling

Very pleasant adventure. There are trails with educational opportunities along the way. The museum is also very informative.

Off the beaten path in often-overlooked, this super cool Fort Plain and vital role in Revolutionary War history, and it is definitely worth a visit. It would be five stars but many of the displays are aged and in need of updating. Number of the information panels are faded and covered in yellowed and cracked plexiglass. With infrequent tours, it would be nice to have some better self-guided tour materials. With a little infusion of money and some thoughtful programming this place would be awesome.

Jason Potts

Great place to take the kids. Make sure to explore all the way to the back of the park for some beautiful views

Robert Stewart

Great museum and fascinating history of civilizations in the Miami Valley going back more than 2,000 years. The Fort Ancient State Memorial has features of interest for all ages and depths of interest in the history. There are lots of history to read; hands-on activities and structures to explore; and maps that explain. They have an extensive program with the Boy Scouts for scouts to earn service hours and activity patches while learning and camping.

Fort Ancient is a scenic designated nature preserve with a rich unique and naturally well preserved history of the ancient Indians, the Mound Builders in this central southwest region of Ohio. Adjacent to the Little Miami River Fort Ancient is a popular destination for hikers as well as canoe or rafting enthusiasts.

Fort Ancient was never a fort, but is a beautiful place enhanced by ancient people. There are comforting significantly high earthen walls with 67 openings. In places you walk in a spacious space with the earthen walls on each side. There are cicular calendar marking mounds. There is a short nature trail. Longer earthenworks trail and eagles trail both definitely enhanced by the Boy Scouts. April 2019 all trails are muddy, some are steep, so a walking stick was used and most helpful. The views were spectacular and There were many wild flowers. Beautiful place to hike and the museum had fine artifacts. Enjoy!
