Today was the last of the summer series of Porch presentations, and the subject was George and Martha Washington. The speaker was Ruth Brubakken, and she did a great job of educating us about George Washington's life. We learned a lot about his younger years, the challenges he faced and how he overcame them. We learned that he did not chop down a cherry tree, and that he only really had a couple years of retirement at the end of his life. There was no video in the presentation, but I didn't miss that at all. It was a great way to end the season on a highly educational note. I hope I can get to a few more of this series next summer!!

Located in the historic Lutz Mansion, this museum houses artifacts that include Peggy Lee, the Northern Pacific railroad, as well as a full scale replication of the two-story gazebo built in 1883 to honor the visit of former US president Ulysses S. Grant. This is a must stop for history buffs...especially those interested in the early pioneer life of settlers of the ND plains.
