Way over priced for a train ride in the woods. You got my money this time but never again. It's a waste of money

We took our 2 grandsons for the train ride this morning. They had never ridden in a train before! Really enjoyed it. Also enjoyed the large model train display. And the museum!

Mark Martin

Wonderful experience.

It's a beautiful piece of history, love the volunteers that keep it going , thank you for volunteering. My husband had a blast driving a locomotive for his birthday!

Peter Jasion

Ken Simons

So it's all volunteers. kudo's to them all to work hard on a crisp December day. Yes the environment and equipment needs more money and time invested, yes the interaction could be more engaging and descriptive and immersive, but hey, it's a working stream train thirty minutes or less from anywhere in the Triangle! Do you have children? Take them! Are you a train loving kid in an adult body, take that kid too.

Nancy Lewis

Great fun and knowledgeable people. Cool to get up close and touch the trains inside and out.

Narjis Bennis

The Halloween ride is a blast for young and old!

Free! For one and hands on.

We had a great time on Santa's Train ride and look forward to having more trips on the train throughout the year. There were lots of Christmas decorations, big bon fire, little train store, pictures with Mrs. Clause and of course the man himself handing out candy canes and finding out what all the little girls and boys wanted for Christmas. They had also set up decorations along the tracks and you got a sheet of all Santa's reindeer to check off as you spotted them along tohe route. They had a concessions stand as well that served coffee and hot chocolate as well as snacks and hot dogs. Last, but not least, there was a G-track train yard out front with multiple trains. My son's favorite was of course Thomas, Annie and Clarabel. This was a great trip and one we will repeat yearly. If you are doing the Santa's Reindeer Roundup Express, take a look at the weather and dress accordingly. There are enclosed car options but you see more in the open cars. So bring blankets and layer up!

This a great place to see how they use to travel. They were actually closed but let me and my daughter in and gave us a tour.

Karen Fuerst

Wonderful time, but it was all outside in the heat. Bring money for drinks. Felt sorry for all of the staff dressed in character, because of the extreme heat. Will go back in October for Halloween celebration.

Good place for little kids to see model Thomas train while the train ticket is for a general no window open car train. Not telling kids to ride Thomas train here....

Kevin Candiloro

A great time for kids and adults. Friendly atmosphere and a fun ride on the train. The Sunday slow down ride was relaxing. They do holiday themed rides that sound like fun and a brew and chew beer and food ride for adults.

Dean'na Smiley

Took three kids ages 5, 8, 10 for the Halloween ride. They had fun. It was definitely geared for the younger kids. Volunteers running it were great.

Jennifer Shelley

Check the website for train ride hours. Interesting assortment of train cars and locomotives

We had a wonderful birthday party at the party caboose! It's such a lovely place that you can hold your private party successfully. The volunteer and coordinators Tom and Diana, they are such kind and considerate people. They contacted with us soon after we booked the caboose providing all the helpful info and scheduling with us all the way. On the party day, they and other volunteers at the railway gave us such welcoming and coordination since the minute we showed up at parking lot. And they helped us the whole time from transporting supplies to caboose to final cleaning up and getting back to car. They treat the kids in such loving way. Without all their help, we can't have such successful party. The kids and parents all loved the ride and our caboose party! We'll highly recommend here to anyone we know!

Great small local train museum. Run by dedicated and friendly volunteers that make the whole experience. A few train cars are dedicated as museum space and the grounds have some interesting pedestrian bridges as model railroads. The highlight is the 1 hour train ride. It's not particularly scenic, but interesting and you get to see them use the switches to move the engine from one end to the other when they head back to the museum. Great for small kids for an afternoon. No indoor bathrooms, only portable toilets.

ross mccarthy

Such unique family fun!

Jimmy Sumerell

This is a great day trip for the family. It has trains for all ages. They have G-scale trains on the parking lot side, it is enjoyed by the little kids and the big kids. On the other side are the big trains. They have ride scheduled from early Spring through the Christmas rides in December. Their Halloween trains in October are fantastic, from big cat to flying witches.

Kendra Villanueva

Judy Bailes

Great place!

We went for one of the monthly Brew N Choo events. Got to check out some old train cars & learn some history. Took a ride on the train through the woods which was lots of fun! You can take food & drink on the train, which have been a good idea. We even got an impromptu lesson on steam engine refurbishing from some off duty docents. The only bathrooms are porta potties & there is no space with AC. We had fun & will be back!

Tom P.

Always enjoy the Christmas train ride. Need to try the other events as well. As a volunteer organization they do a quality job.

Went on a Saturday to just show my son around. Never expected to get a full tour and go inside the locomotive or mail car. Very knowledgeable people. Very friendly. Will likely go back on a day they are operating.

Dane Schuckman

This is a really cool railway museum not too far from the Raleigh area. Worth checking out. They do train rides, they have a train museum, including a really cool postal car exhibit, and a miniature city with a miniature train running outside. At Christmastime they do a Santa Train.

Great place to learn about and ride an old fashion train. Fun place for entire family. Check out their "special event" days like Christmas. Santa rides the train and meets and speaks with every child. Coal available for parents or children that are naughty!

Edward Savoy

Excellent entertainment for children of all ages. Steam engine was in for upgrades but the diesel provided lots of fun

Jeff Eckhoff

Been living here for over 30 years never knew about this place. Great place to take the kids that love trains.

Theresa Syros

My son is a huge train fan. We go there 2 or 3 times a year.

Kevin Mullins

My wife and I enjoy the afternoon at New Hope Valley Railroad. The train ride was fun and informative the staff are friendly knowledgeable and very professional. They had a good selection of beer as well as snacks and barbecue. I would highly recommend a trip out 2 new Hill to check it out.

Yeedah Krasowski

Its fun looking at the mail car and learning how something as basic as our mail was delivered in the past. The train ride was not as scenic as we had hoped and will be less scenic as a subdivision was going up next to the old tracks, it's a fairly short ride and you never really pick up much speed and that's okay because it's a bit rickety even for a train.

Hamayun Ahmad

Fun place for children but any Railway Engineers would definitely enjoy this place

Bill Travers

Fun time for family and friends.

Lee Miller

It was great my third time there it gets better

Matthew Heller

This is the best (and only that I know of) train ride experience convenient to the Triangle area. It's operated by volunteers who are passionate about railroading and excited to share their knowledge with visitors. My extended family has been going for the Santa Train on weekends in December since 2001 and we've seen it grow in capacity, variety, and customer service each year, yet it hasn't lost its small-town genuine feel and authenticity. Highly recommended for family or group outings. You don't have to be a train fan to have a blast here, but if you are you will find plenty of close-up railroading experiences.

Erik Bradley

It was really awesome. Our kids loved it. The only thing that stinks is that there was a lot of waiting to couple and uncouple the trains to swap out engines. Very interesting place, will go back and highly recommend it. They also have rides for Halloween and Christmas.

Robert Misior

Awesome place to bring kids. We visit this place few times a year. Halloween train ride was very nice. My kids loved the singing pumpkins.

Summer Dempsey

Tim Carroll

Fun place for family & kids. Lots of historical pieces

Bea

Better for kids, and it's not very secure for letting people get in for free without a ticket, since they never checked ours. All the train ride did was go 30 minutes one way, then turning around and went back. It's through a forest, and would really enjoy it if I could stick my hands out the window. Everyone there is voulenteering though, and it's really nice to see.

Alan Morean

Nice place with plenty of railroad items on display. Will be returning again & again.

Ashly Dubose

Had such a fun time. The train is very slow lol but needs to be because it is open. The mail car was awesome. My son loved learning about it all. I do have one thing that bothered me, it was so hard to hear any announcements on the speaker.

John Bonitz

This is a really great excursion for kids! I recommend it for kids 5 and older. Lots of actual train engines and cars. A very big model train garden, beautifully built and maintained. This entire thing is run by volunteers, so adjust your expectations accordingly and you'll have a wonderful time!

Burks Hamner

Excellent time. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If you have never been on a train it is a great experience to see how our ancestors traveled across the country.

Dave Schirmer

Really friendly staff, good old fashioned fun

Maria Hansen

It was a fun 1 hour ride. I appreciate that it is run by volunteers only. They have a big small scale train area that is fenced in for the children. They have Thomas the tank engine and several train sets running on the tracks. The kids were loving it. They have several old train cars turned into museums which is fun for the adults too. You get to ride on an open car train in the forrest. It was very relaxing.

Cyndi Torockio

Love this place...the Christmas express ride is a family tradition.it's run completely by volunteers

Mary Martin

We've gone 4 years in a row and love it! Low-key Halloween fun for the kiddos.

This was our first time at the New Hope Valley Railway and my family loved it! We rode the train for Santa's Reindeer Roundup! There was an hour long train ride in an open air train car where we looked for different reindeer! During the ride, Santa came through and he sat down with each family and we were able to have some family pictures taken. I have been to many different train events and I thought this was priced very reasonably! This whole operation is run by volunteers, which I think is neat!

Tyler & Dustin Bradshaw

Mallory Johnson

Awesome experience! Friendly people and a great atmosphere.

Paul Boyd

Nothing to see on train ride. It was so hot. Didn't realize we'd be riding in non air conditioned cars. Not worth the money ! Dont waste your time.

Dawn Kanupp

Holly Alford

Shawn Balser

Had a fun time.Train ride was nice and relaxing through the woods.Went on the tour of the train yard and different cars. The volunteers were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.

Ranita Ghosh Dastidar

Kids like the ride and are excited to find Santa's reindeers. Good place for a nice family time.

Sarah Preston

So much fun

John Arnold

We did the "Ride a Real Train with Sante." Def. worth the price of admission. I would highly recomend not going during peak times. We went during an off time and had a nice little sit down with Santa during the trip. I couldn't see this happening when the trip is sold out--but think it would still make an extremely memorable experience you won't forget. Looking forward to going again in the Spring when the weather is warmer. Bundle up! These are open air trains...but there is a nice warm fire pit waiting back at the station! Great staff, extremely friendly! Highly recommend for kids 10 and under!

Brian Wolff

Pretty interesting, great people, unique things to see. We came on a day without the train rides but still found it interesting.

Prescott Plumlee

We went on the Santa train ride for our little one and she had a lot of fun. Santa went from car to car and visited with anyone who was interested. The train goes slow enough you could jump out and be okay. It was cold and we were glad we brought a blanket.

Pierre Muentnich

Phil Anderson

Great for kids has garden model railway, historical exhibits, and Santa train on Winter, awesome

James

Fun place for kids to ride a train. Theme train rides throughout the year. Prices is great too

Leanne Collier

There is good bit to check out and you'll see some old train cars. You can go inside some of them to see how things were set up. This paired with the train ride was a good experience. My two year old loved it.

Rebecca Johnson

Took my 7-year-old son here recently. Never knew it was right around the corner from us! He loves trains (always has) and is very knowledgeable about different kinds of trains and how they work, but even for someone who thought they knew alot about trains, there is so much to learn here! I suggest getting here at least an hour to an hour and a half before your train leaves to give you ample time to see the model train, the gift shop, explore the railway, learn the history behind the different types of trains and to ask questions! The staff here answered every question my little boy had about trains. We had such an enjoyable time and will definitely be coming back!

Donna David Mack

Fun day and relaxing train ride through the woods!
