"Open three days a week but we knock off early on Friday". I have great memories of this place from visiting with my dad as a child. Tried to go a few times recently. Showed up on a Tuesday (should've looked online) of course they were closed. Came back on Friday and had 2 friends that wanted to go. Showed up at 4 and was told they were closing early... I said great, we drove an hour to get here because you're supposed to be open until 5. And the lady wanted to open back up for us, which was very nice of her, but no one wants to be the only folks there knowing some one is waiting for you to leave. Not at a museum. I may go back. I really don't know.

Very cool to see how it all started. Not exactly a kid friendly place, but my kids were interested in all the items on display. The guide was very good at keeping their intrest as well as ours.

Great sites and fun people. All sorts of cool exhibits like... a Conestoga wagon, Spanish conquistador armor, farmers and family in vignette, cotton springs and loom, civil war artifacts, President Jackson items from his birthplace and early law career, antique 1st lady style tea cups and china, British officer uniform, etc. Add a movie theater, banquet facility and gift shop and you have a nice day trip. With the historical 100 year old cabin, wood shed, post office and gold panning mill, you can fill the rest of the day. Or go when they have an event like pirate day, tavern night or a military re-enactment. Always a fun time and you learn something!

Great place to camp and hike

Very quiet, except when you have Civil War or WWII living histories! It is a historical place.

They had a fake cemetery with a plywood coffin with a broken down spring loaded CPR dummy. That about sums up the experience.
