The Joel Lane house is one of my favorite places to visit in Raleigh - it's the oldest house in Wake County.... 1769. The tour cost about $7 or $8 and the entrance fee is worth it and goes toward the restoration of the property. Make sure you tour all the buildings. It is worth attending one of their special events when the staff and volunteers are in period costume.

This visit was a planned stop. I had read a bit about the Joel Lane Museum and wanted to know more. We went on a 45-60 minute tour of the house and small grounds surrounding, guided by the museum director. He was very informative and gracious and obviously had a true interest in sharing what is known about Joel Lane and his family. We enjoyed this tour immensely and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in history and culture who is traveling in the Raleigh area.

A very nice place to visit : you'll discover and learn a lot about this house and his precious owner (oldest house in Raleigh). This is really something to see. Moreover the guided tour is excellent and the guide (a passionate young student who knows a lot about the North Carolina state) is amazing. Don't miss this place.
