Great place to visit with the kids. Just enough hands-on, but fun, learning and stimulation. The aquarium was the highlight for us! A well decorated, somewhat unexpected, shark and ray touch tank. We got to pet sting rays! The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. A really fun trip for us out-of-towners to spend a day in from the cold.

The only thing I didn't care for is that there are not really any directions to the different things to see. You have to wander around and hope you find what you're looking for

With the ever changing exhibits that the HMA have visitors will always have a reason to come back. Their folk art collection has some breath taking pieces (...and, yes, one or two that look like school projects). The staff is always friendly and the gift shop is a miniature art market that has a wide selection of merch from local artists. If you are in the area I suggest you visit the HMA.

This is just a beautiful facility with so much natural lighting. The exhibits are well designed. As a mother of young children, I especially appreciate the multiple opportunities to respond to and create art throughout the museum. I can't believe it's free!

I was here for a child's birthday party so my experience will likely differ from others. However the planned activities were very entertaining for the kids and for the parents participating with them. All in all I'd say it was a good deal. Would recommend.

For a local museum this is a nice one. Staff really tries to make people feel welcome and they have a nice variety of local and well known art. Childrens art is featured regularly and they do a great job of giving students a good experience showing their work. The building has been around a long time but is still in great shape and really has a nice feel inside. Check it out you probably wont be disappointed.

The Hickory Museum of Art is an excellent museum in a small city. It has a great collection of contemporary southern folk art, which is on permanent display. It also has several changing exhibits throughout the year that appeal to visitors of all ages. Admission is free, and so is parking.

If you are within a few hours of here, you should definitely check this place out. The museum is housed in an amazin and beautifully renovated old school building, with lots to do and see nearby. The exhibits are extremely well put together, and you could spend hours with their folk art collection. This museum is not to be missed. Please take the time to visit, enjoy, and contribute to this "donation only" museum! I promise you'll leave smiling.

As of 23 Oct 19, there was certainly a nice mix of art you would expect from a local free art museum and some stuff that will make you scratch your head and look twice. An awesome way to spend a couple of hours on a free afternoon.

This is the only art museum I know of in Hickory, but it’s a great one. They have a lot of folk art pieces, a really cool room of glass sculpture, permanent exhibits, and a couple of exhibits that they update quite quickly, surprisingly. It’s nice to have the Science Center, Library, and Art Museum all in one place, if you have kids you can spend a whole day here if you want. Also, the art museum is free so why not? It’s a must see for any art lover living in Hickory.
