REVIEWS OF CAM Raleigh IN North Carolina

Jim Phifer

You have to check it out!

Andy Raynor

This is a beautiful space downtown with a modest space for exhibitions. If you enjoy contemporary art, it's a nice destination.

Geo Min

Really neat museum, a tad small but really good content, really cool and friendly staff too

Jeff E

Very Interesting displays. Somewhat one sided politically.

Jonathan Baker

Went for the tattoo fest

Bob Spaziano

This place and space is pretty chill. It is small, though with 1 or 2 contemporary shows passing through. You may wish to check online to see if what they're showing interests you before visiting.

Brandon Lipscomb

Only three large exhibits were being shown when I visited. Nothing really good either - definitely not worth the admission price.

WD Thompson

CAM Raleigh is a gem in the warehouse district of downtown Raleigh. Don't bother googling to find out what is showing. Just open your mind and go! I'm grateful to have a local oasis that is fed by different springs.

Taylor Harrington

Just discovered this place while doing an art competition there. I would love to see an art show set up

george cuffie

Low rider display was amazing, great space!

Kelly A. Calhoun

Classy venue with fantastic, modern Art exhibits. I modeled in a runway show here recently, and thoroughly enjoyed the modern take on Disney Princesses. We even did a photoshoot in and around the exhibit. Def a must see if you are in the area or live in Raleigh.

Mary Dailey

Small but excellent

Pranay Gupta

It's free and has parking nearby. You can easily kill an hour here

Michan Lara

This place is a gem. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, go at your own pace, places to sit and clean facilities. Check out the new low rider display that’s here til February.

Kim Priebe

One of my favorite places to explore in DTR. Always new and intriguing exhibits.

BRIDES BEWARE! My sister had her wedding reception booked for here and 5 WEEKS before the wedding, they let us know that the artist won't let you have food or drink around the art. The only thing that they offered was to let us use a CLASSROOM SIZED SPACE to serve OVER 150 GUESTS their food. We were guaranteed the entire space in our contract including being able to serve food and drink and only now do they let us know we can't use the space for the reception at all? RIDICULOUS. We have now had to find a new reception space 5 weeks before her wedding. 5 WEEKS!!! And we're not the only ones, this art will be there for several months so anyone else who scheduled an event with food is screwed too. If you show case art that you can't have events around DON'T RENT OUT THE SPACE FOR EVENTS! This is an outrage and could have potential ruined one of the best days of my sisters life. If we weren't as capable and lucky as we were to be able to find another space, this would have been a catastrophe. I'm putting this out as a warning to any brides looking for a reception space in hopes that they will NEVER have to deal with this like we have.

Harry Burman

Small but refreshing space. Has food trucks on 1st Fridays. worth a visit.

Timothy Moranville

More of a gallery than museum, but work isn't for sale, so I guess it doesn't meet those criteria either. Either way, a really neat space, and the current exhibitions are great contemporary art.

Susan

Not impressed. I hope it improves.

Kelly

Small - 2.5 exhibits - but moving and we'll put together.

Dorene Rukse

Always something interesting there. Exhibits change. $5 to get in. Free on First Fridays.

Donna Miller

Great idea to have the younger generation learning about art and being able to share learned knowledge with visitors. I wasn't wowed by the most recent exhibit focusing on basketball, but I will definitely come back to see what's new.

Tony K

Heard Chris Sacca speak and the museum was clean. Interesting works of art. Really small compared to the MoMa but unique to RDU for sure.

Robert Harris

The CAM is a private contemporary art museum downtown - where it is needed most. This museum is hit or miss entirely depending on what temporary exhibits are on display. Keep in mind everything in this museum is temporary. I have seen amazing mind blowing art here unlike anything I've ever seen, and other times I've paid full price to see a nearly empty museum with a few boring amateur pieces. Furthermore this museum needs to do more to promote itself and let the public be aware what is showing and when. Generally I've felt that it's been overpriced. Please don't confuse this museum with the NC Museum of Art - a world class museum, sadly a 15 min drive from downtown.

Norman Aamodt

Great venue for events

Timi Ogunleye

Tiffany Andrews

I like this place in part for what offers, the rotating shows, and for where it is: smack in the middle of the warehouse district in downtown Raleigh. We routinely bundle a quick stop to CAM to see their latest thing in conjunction with catching a show somewhere else and grabbing a meal. Take advantage of their military discount- bring your military idea and save a boatload of money If you do, consider donating some of it keep this place alive and thriving.

Abigail Szymanski

Amazing venue, great rotating exhibits

Caitlin Havron

Loved all the exhibits - amazing work for such a small museum. Highly recommend.

Faye Comer

Lovely place, don't forget to see the work downstairs.

Keith Gibbs

What a great venue for an event!

Elizabeth Brown

A lot of construction in the area when I went so hard to find parking. Museum itself was OK. Only 2 exhibit at the time which were good. There is a small fee if not a student or a young child.

Tia McLaurin Bethea

Steve Guyer

Mike Myers

An amazing experience. The space is great fun to explore.

Hanson Kriegel

Medium sized place, so expect to make a visit more of a stop rather than the whole point of a trip. Definitely worth seeing for those who enjoy art, but if you’re not much of an artist fan you might feel as if the trip wasn’t worth it. If you visit, keep your mind open and you’ll have a great time! I would absolutely visit again if I was in the area, especially if I only had a little time to spend because I would feel I still had enough time to have a good experience.

Grace Lincroft

A great location to view contemporary art in Downtown Raleigh.

Favorite place to visit on first Friday!

Sotalentedmiles

Love there frame sales

Ellen Weiss Margolis

There aren't many exhibits at any given time but they often have really fun events and family events with music and dancing and stuff. That's what we really like about CAM.

Anthony McLeod

Great space - amazing art.

Dwight Hendricks

Great small art museum, the young staff was knowledgeable and fun to talk with

Maddie E

You can't go wrong with free. Everything was beautiful and clean. They even have a small station for the smaller children called the creation Station.

Elisa Smith

Mujjen

Brian Flowers

Was not impressed. A friend and I visited on a Sunday. Not too busy, but soon to figure out why. They charged a $5 entry fee. The ONLY art on file was the main room that had been decorated by black and white masking tape. The rest of the museum was "under renovations." It would have been better to have just closed the museum for the day.

Caitlyn Wiley

Really nice museum, albeit not very big. College students get in for free as well as a number of other people (ie senior citizens) and the reception staff was very polite. They had a really cool Disney princess installment when I went where an artist reimagined Disney princesses as modern day activists.

Dj Jackson

I like it that much because color:colorful miss wow that's for teenagers

Alan Stewart

Suhey Ortega

Very nice contemporary art museum with great exhibits.

Dorinda Riley's

Nice art work and I like the interactive space for the kids.

Julie Pitts

The CAM always has beautiful and thought provoking exhibits. This is definitely one of the favorite spaces in Raleigh. This space is also home to many local events and parties. I was recently there for the Redress Raleigh Fashion show. This space is progressive and innovative.

Krystyl Boyle

Visiting is always a memorable experience. The installations are thoughtfully developed and they always have events. Very friendly and educational staff and involved in community enrichment. Great place to walk around when you have free time or bring people from out of town.

Kylie Finley

I took my class with special needs to a special Program they offer and it was amazing! Gab was a great tour guide and kept their interest for over an hour! We will Def take another trip back!

felix blain

Art is life

Christopher Winkler

Interesting architecture and beautiful art line the walls, though it's a very small museum overall. We went for a free family event and it was awesome. We wandered around after the event and were impressed with the art pieces, but found that there's not much here among the three levels. This is similar to other modern art museums in comparable sized cities, so I guess it's just a function of population. The staff were amazing and friendly!

Ann Bridgers

Highly educational and informative museum. Good stuff

Naadii Salaam

The CAM Raleigh is a great art and events space. I have been to several art shows there and one party...there are so many ways that the venue can be set up, it never disappoints. Great acoustics for music shows. It's always a nice treat to visit.

Justin Dillard

Visited yesterday evening, but it was closed. Called the number listed and no answer.

Des B

Smaller than expected but a cute place with about a dozen art installations per floor. There's two floors technically three if you include the lobby area.

Tripp Hamilton

I've come here for Hopscotch Music Festival performances, and am really amazed at the art exhibits they have on display. A very nice, modern art experience, even when there is live music going on...

Bobt4fun

Great space, wonderful building, friendly staff and not overwhelming exhibition space where you start to feel like it's a forced March to see everything.

Christopher Simmons

Good variety of art. I. E., it's not like you walked into the Alte Pinakothek in München and might only expect to see Dürer's Bettende Hände or 4 Apostles.... Plus the Direktorin is pretty hot. :)

Christian Lewis

Judge

D K

Nelson Williams

A small but lovely museum. The lowrider exhibit is worth a second visit.

Anatoly Konukhov

A contemplative place for contemporary art.

Jordan Tazewell

Cool open space with unique art

Melissa Anne Christians

It was where FAB was for the LGBT center of Raleigh Nc had their awards program at

Michelle Gonzales-Green

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The exhibits are professionally done and the art is world-class. Fabulous place for art to bring on a sophisticated romantic date or an activity for family. It is now free admission, so that makes it even better.

Bryan Florkiewicz

Why are you reading reviews. It's art! Go interpret it for yourself!

Sherrie Henry

We love the CAM. Great family activities.

Jake Lasky

This place is beautiful. I was here for an event and this place had an atmosphere like no other. It has big open spaces and little nooks to go into if you want some privacy. An all around awesome experience

Janna Harris

Very nice exhibit, really enjoyed looking at every exhibit

Bea Dazzle

Nice museum. Great exhibit, only $5 to get in.

Hannah Colclazier

Great museum and friendly staff. A great asset for Raleigh!

Joshua Bullock

New experience, great for small gatherings As well great art

David Franklin

Limited exhibits, would take 15 minutes to see them all

Michael Gjertson

Attended the 8th annual tattoo fest @ CAM Raleigh. It was interesting.

Barbara Steele

Edgy exhibits... Fantasy guns made of assemblages of found objects, a series of liberated studies of female Disney characters/heroines, and a fantastic series of drawings/paintings about Obama's famous mike drop. Interesting and contemporary. I'll be going back!

Andrew May

This place is off the hook. Bam! It's a cross between nirvana for kids (great kids programs) and an adult sensation that you won't find anywhere else in North Carolina. The art and parties are phat.

Scott Vondervor

Nice venue for tattoo fest

Casey Prevette

BRETT BECKER

Great gallery space, but very limited exhibitions. Only 3 artist, with one displaying only one piece. Took about 5-10 to walk through the entire gallery. Was less than expected.

Griselda Rodríguez

Friendly staff and beautiful art installation.

Karl Davis

A great place to go to experience nouveau art in a peaceful, calming atmosphere.

Kelly Spaulding

Ria Edens

The facility is beautiful, but the collection of art did not feel as impactful as I would have liked.

Scott Gainer

The installations used to be hit or miss, but the last 3 times I've been here, I left feeling inspired and proud that Raleigh has such a prolific and accessible art experience downtown.

Payod Panda

I try to visit the place every first Friday, when the museum is open late (I believe until 10p). They usually have a nice rotation of exhibits, frequently by local artists. I also really enjoy the making station they put up for first Friday. I always take my friends here if they happen to be in town for first Friday, and then cover the galleries nearby. CAM also has a food truck outside on first Fridays, which is a bonus (I don't think they do on other days). It's located in one of my favorite areas of town (Warehouse District), and there's lots of things to do around after the museum.

Pier Komes

Very few exhibits

Martin Johnson

Quite the event on first Friday, but I enjoy drumline and art.

Charleston Freeman

Cool place to visit.

Jinoh Park

Small, but a lovely space.

Shelle B

Love this museum! It is in the heart of the warehouse district. Across the street from Urban Outfitters. The current exhibit "Above The Rim" will only be there about 2 more weeks & it is a must see! Friendly staff, clean, easy to navigate.

Colin Miller

Nice to have art museum downtown. Needs serious upgrade of showings.

Michela Argnani

Belle Long

Great contemporary art museum!

Nigel Zeto

Situated in a nice part of town. Eclectic set up and unusual exhibits one would not expect at a museum and yet totally appropriate dealing with art that is underserved. This visit custom motor bikes. Each one a piece of art that would have been perfectly in place in an Art Deco setting. Highly recommend taking the time to see these bikes even if one is not a rider.

Jenna Dahl

Love coming here for Creative Morning talks on the last Friday of every month!

Rachel Tatem

Very small. Interesting and definitely should go but it's not a long visit.

Britt

did a yoga class here. the art is beautiful!

Ryan Matthews

This is an awesome museum with very unique exhibits. It's a must visit.

Ash R

Not very many exhibits, but some of the stuff is really cool

Matthew Tallarino

Justin Carlin

Every month we come into Cam to check out the exhibits for the first Friday art walk. This is a must stop every month.

Mariana Gutierrez

Great place that enjoy visiting anytime the exhibitions change! It’s free for college students which I LOVE, & they provide free parking!

Yute Zhou _ Student - HunterES

Just okay

Amanda Edmundson

Denise Scott

Always inspiring and thought provoking art.

Board Treasurer

My biggest pet peeve with art museums is a lot of space and few exhibits. The CAM Museum takes that to an extreme. Big building and less than a dozen exhibits when I was there. They used up a huge room for one exhibit a basketball court with a bunch of squares as people on the walls. Not only a waste of space but why reduce people to squares? Another exhibit was they gave cameras to homeless people. Only 20 pictures and the results were predictible. Maybe they were trying for social commentary instead of art, but failed there too. Just bad. We were in and out in under ten minutes. CAM get new management that knows how to do an exhibit.

Carla Gonzalez

Nice small modern art museum. It was in the middle of changing exhibits but the things we did get see were great! The lady at the front desk said they change exhibits every 3 months so I would definitely go back to see the different artwork.

Ms. Burns

Nice place for a viewing of Modern Art. This place was smaller than I expected but the art was really cool! There were 3 or 4 different exhibits when I went.

JP Perez

There aren't very many works of art to see here. Good thing we came on first friday and didn't pay admission. Also, I've been here twice over the course of one year and most of the exhibitions are the same.

Kate Hurd

Great auction hosted by PoshNosh Catering

Carrie Miller

Great events for kids. The gallery is small but is always changing.

Amber Berry

Though they didn't have many exhibits on display, what they did have was beautiful and really made you think about what you were looking at

O Cox-M

CAM is in a great location in downtown Raleigh, they have amazing First Friday events and showcase modern/contemporary art with fabulous flair

James Estabrook

This place is amazing really great art lots to do fun for all ages

Ross Gongaware

One of the best art gallery downtown. Would highly suggest coming here when open to see their frequently rotated pieces.
