nice library and music archive. friendly and knowledgeable staff. Check the schedule for concerts.
Small venue with lots of potential... performance area with piano and drum set add a few horns and the place comes alive. A must see for any jazz fan. Apollo theatre and Cotton Club just down the street...a jazz lovers dream.
It's a one floor room museum. Perfect for a quick drop by or to spend a while here enjoying jazz music, books, history and people that share this taste.
Wonderful history of jazz in Harlem presented well. Curator was well informed. A living testament to Harlem jazz . A hidden gem.
(Translated by Google) Mini Museum, very interesting but very small, although they are careful, the will is paid although they recommend 10 dollars (Original) Mini Museo, muy interesante pero muy muy pequeño, aunque lo tienen cuidado , se paga la voluntad aunque recomiendan 10 dolares
I’d have a better jazz museum in my own living to be honest
Extremely small space. Had I known it was one room with a handful of displays I would not have offered the full suggested entry fee.
Nice, but small.
not much to see...made my donation

Nice museum
Like a gallery of Jazz and great music!
Beautiful exhibit
Good history
It's a cute little museum. Not much to see but they have videos and jazz music you can listen too. Also there were some books available to read.

My students and I really enjoyed their trip to the National Jazz Museum. It was informative, interactive and it took us down memory lane. I appreciated the ambiance of the museum. The staff was very nice and respectful. I liked how they tried to engage and include the students from all classes. My students and I would like to experience this trip again. It was well worth it. We learned a lot. I definitely appreciated the staff's respect and appreciation for the culture and era around the Jazz period.
Head here after work on Tuesday for their FREE Jazz Listening party – you’ll be schooled in Scat and hear some of the greatest jazz ever recorded.
Thoughtfully curated Museum. Small collection but a pleasant experience overall.
Unforgettable experience! This place is a hidden gem for the jazz fans. There are wonderful photographs, music and video archive. The staff was very knowledgeable about the history of jazz. You can attend plenty of events there. We are going to visit the Charli Persip Surprise 90th Birthday Party this month.
Excellent!!!
There is an intergenerational jazz session from 2-5 pm every third Sunday of the month.
Great collection. Just a $10 suggested donation.

Even though it's a small space it's packed full of history
Small but very informative museum with lots of books to read !
Whether you love jazz or not, you will leave this place with a great appreciation for the creative and talented influencers of this genre. For such a small space, it is impressive how much information is displayed. Duke Ellington's piano is front and center (they let one of my students play it!). The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and gifted at teaching. This is a free establishment unless you would like to make a donation (please do!). This is a must-see gem in the heart of Harlem.
Learned so much!
This museum is small, but the knowledge if the staff is rich in depth and honest in. content. Don't come here without listening to some music at one of their screens. Really well-made platform for exploring the histories of great musicians. I had a blast.
(Translated by Google) Excellent museum I had to listen to live music. Wonderful! (Original) Excelente museo. Me tocó escuchar música en vivo. ¡Maravilloso!
Nice little museum, but after giving donation kicked out for kids rehearsal..
Small & welcoming with lots of great information
Nice place
Underwhelming. The museum has a handful of interesting items but it's quite small and still in the early stages of building a proper collection. The owner and staff are very helpful an show a real enthusiasm for the mission of the place. Take a look if you're already in the neighborhood, but don't make a special trip.
Not that big, but u can see Duke Ellington's piano
I took my class here for the scat workshop. The presenter was amazing and patient and flexible and so knowledgeable. We all left with smiles on our faces and I will definitely come back from another trip.
Attended a closed memorial service held at the beautiful museum. Was able to see various historical pieces on display.
ICONIC
Cozy but vibrant. The guide did an incredible job teaching, thrilling and engaging my 4th grade class. Quite a gem to find in Harlem.
Amazing place, stop by!
Legendary music in a famous neighbourhood. However a friendly but too small museum
Tim Porter Trio and The Feeling Messengers
One of the best music spots in a town full of great spots. Hear seasoned icons as well as up and coming future icons!
Jazz's World. Jazz's Life. ****
If you are in the neighborhood, it is a must see. Tiny, but worth the stop.

(Translated by Google) Expected more from the "National Jazz Museum" but it was cool that a song was playing when we arrived. It is close to the great streets of Harlem and worth the 15-minute walk there to take a look. (Original) Esperava mais do "Museu Nacional de Jazz" mas foi legal que estava rolando uma música quando chegamos. Fica próximo das grandes ruas do Harlem e vale a passagem ali de 15 minutos para dar uma olhada.
This is a tiny museum (smallest one I have ever been to) but if you are a fan of Jazz this is definitely the place to visit. I visited for Museum Day 2019; I did not know it existed until the selection for NYC museums to visit came up.
pretty cool spot, the vibe is very much chill and have some interesting stuff to view.
A small place filled with jazz history. If you are in Harlem, go check it out. Also, you can attend to the Jazz Jams every 3rd Sunday of the month. You can play or sing with the band. A very beautiful and interesting museum.

Beautiful and truly historical... With great music I may add.
Join for live piano jazz yoga once a month.
Don’t go out of your way to visit. The nearest MTA stations are in the sketchiest parts of Harlem, and the museum feels like someone’s collection of jazz-related knick knacks. Nothing on any big giants besides Louis Armstrong and the Duke. The interactive archive is really just someone’s downloads on iTunes. The claim the owner previously made about shows and learning is BS, there’s no space for any of that to take place. The Met literally has a larger collection of instruments on display than this “museum” of jazz.

Very beautiful and warm historical space. A mist visit for all!!!
Its a nice spot to spend some time in. Its a self guided tour and admission is donation based.
The live Jazz was awesome!!
Intimate experience in Harlem of Jazz History.
The donation fee that they kind of guilt trip you into paying is what you want to donate, but they ask if you could give $20 a person. The museum is very small, but it is able to highlight so of the most important things about jazz in Harlem and NY. Also there lies Duke Ellington's piano. The place has live jazz performances every now and then too. At most this place might take you an hour with performances or maybe 20 minutes without.
Well displayed and very interesting. Great articles yo read, fabulous archive video music you could watch and listen to. Really enjoyed it
I love this place its awesome and it is fun
Super small museum but proof that size isn't ALWAYS the game changer. Some pretty awesome jazz memorabilia can be found here as well as 1 interactive exhibit that basically let's you Improv Jam Along with a live jazz band. What also stood out for me was the personnel working here. Friendly, funky, and knowledgeable staff. Walked in on a rainy day, walked out with internal sunshine.
Tiny museum showing the history of local jazz music. Records, documents, excerpts from movies and a few hands-on exhibits.
I was there for Regina Carter and it was just awesome.
Such a cool little place! Absolutely overjoyed that I found it. I was able to see some really fantastic pieces of jazz history right there in the middle of harlem. Really great and definitely something worth stopping in on.
I was traveling with my family, which includes two trumpeters, ages 12 and 15. This was our destination for the afternoon: more on that later. It's a cool little space (literally one room on the ground floor), pretty heavy on Duke Ellington artifacts, which include the piano he composed a lot of his best works on. We happened upon a concert by accident, which was nice. All of that said, this museum isn't really enough to motivate a trip up from the midtown museums, all by itself. We walked over to Dinosaur BBQ (passing the Cotton Club along the way), and then to Ulysses Grant's memorial, and in combination it was worth it. Long story short, combine this Museum with other aspects of Harlem and it is worth a visit. Just don't plan to spend more than an hour here.
Its a wonderful place to learn about our history of black musicians and there contrabutions to early jazz . Not to mention pleases like the Harlem Renaissance which was the foundation of jazz music and it's diverse culture.
Beautiful and emotional place. Small but worth It.
I really wish the museum was larger, but that's my only complaint. A wonderful place to go to appreciate local history and the hard work of some incredible historical figures. Please support this place so they can continue to preserve important history.
Fantastic live jazz programs - educational and entertaining - staff/volunteers/musicians all dedicated to preserving the music, it's history and encouraging new comers to appreciate and explore the evolution of the jazz world.
small, but cool
Simple layout but quite a lot of information
If you love jazz, you can spend hours in this tiny museum
Very nice Place! A must-visit for any jazz enthusiast. The director Is very kind!
What a joke. $70 for 7 people. We were in and out in 3 minutes. Dont waste your time. I want a refund.
Great space but really tiny!

Nice visit
Amazing experience. Recommend this little jewel if you are looking for a unique outing in Harlem. Be warned, it's small (but mighty), especially if you have a tour or look at the videos in the "movie section".
Very cool museum, but it is very small and there isn't much. It is free, but a donation is very well received
It brings back memory for black people
Enjoy the exhibits and atmosphere learn some history from the videos and listening to the music and seeing the instruments
Took my students on a field trip here it was so great we learned so many new things and they even got to do a little scat singing.Great for learning the history of Jazz in Harlem.

Awesome little museum! I hope to visit again soon.
Nice friendly space, great quality music, happy to have it and all them.
A bit small could get a larger space.
It is a quick stop. You can be in and out in less than 10 minutes.
Very nice
A must visit for anyone interested in jazz culture and all who appreciate the talented musicians that defined the Jazz Age in NYC!
