DESCRIPTION

You will be able to see the opinions of people who are purchasing the services of The Museum at FIT (Museum) in New York.

Now this firm receives a score of 4.5 stars out of 5 and the score was based on 579 reviews.

You may have noticed that the average score it has is almost the highest, and it is founded on a large number of feddbacks, so we can conclude that the rating is very accurate. If there are many people who bothered to leave their opinion when they are satisfied, it works.

As you know, we do not usually bother to set feddbacks when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...

This Museum is classified in the category of Art museum.

REVIEWS OF The Museum at FIT IN New York

Suz Sims-Fletcher

the exhibitions are always changing and always very well curated. there is a bit of a library feel to the space. good placards of explanation are posted throughout and often (always?) a video bonus. the hours are tricky to hit ..so plan your trip.

Oguz Yucel

I wish more work display to get better experience for myself to see those pieces. I like it but need see mixed with more people and work.

Anders Garbom Backe

Interesting, nice and free! It is very small though. We read EVERYTHING and spent merely an hour there. But it's pretty central, close to High Line and Madison Square Garden, so you can easily drop by. They have five themes, often centred around re-use of fabrics, and have kind of a random collection for each, based on contributions from many vastly different decades.

Sue Norfort

A lovely college

Michael Toy

As someone who’s interested in fashion, it’s cool to see the pieces they have on display. The actual exhibits can be hit or miss, though. The Pink exhibition right now is quite good, but the Unraveled one has a few really interesting pieces but leaves much to be desired. The writing on the placards could use a bit more finesse. Full disclosure, there was a security guard loudly chewing gum with his mouth open (huge pet peeve) in the Unraveled exhibition which may have swayed my opinion on that. One thing I would highly recommend to the staff is to change out the doors downstairs. Every time anyone enters or exits, the door slams shut and it’s extremely distracting.

Marlo Ward

Very nice my Angle loved it but I wish it had more things to see. Hopefully they will expand.

Jamilya JA

Must go place. They update their collection often. It’s free too! There are not that many places like that in New York. New York Times writes the review for each new exhibit!

minLa ibizA

small but renew itselfs regularly

Kristie Navarro

Love the Pink exhibit! And the evolution of fabrics

Thomas Yen

Nice free exhibits. 30-60 min is plenty time to slowly explore the museum.

Thandolwethu Jele

Went to see the Minimalism Maximalism exhibition. It was beautiful. Seeing the waves of complementary fashion styles, from bold to simple, extravagant and elegant, artistic and sophisticated pieces.

Je'Jae Daniels

The security guards are always over policing and a negative Nancy! Other than that exhibitions are fun!

Brandt Watson

Unique fashion exhibit. Personally for me it's the first one I've seen, and it's free. They have two floors of exhibit space that seem to rotate. Currently (October 2019) they have a special exhibit on the history of fashion in Paris and cultural impact on forming major centers of the fashion world including New York City among a few others. The main exhibit features a comparison of minimalist vs. maximalist fashion and it's cyclical nature. The hall on the right has a photography exhibit of collections from students. The range of styles is very impressive and sometimes historic. You can stop to read the plaques and learn about influential designers that led development at major fashion labels, and even see some outfits from the French revolution. The exhibit does it's best to frame the history of fashion as a succession of lead designers making their mark upon the culture of the world. It's a bit self referential but very enjoyable for the true fashion heads strolling the jet black museum space. My personal favorite was the student photography section, where the themes and art were more accessible. All in all, it's about and hour and a half to see the entire museum. It's generally pretty quiet, and I wouldn't bring kids. The photography exhibit features some nudity that may not be suitable for children.

Alyssa Ebaugh

Loved this place, the clothing was incredible to view and I learned so much

Irene Juhasz

Minimalism Show, fun and interesting. Check it out.

Nathalie Burgado

Wow wow wow excellent Its a very Cool

GIULIANA CIAMPOLI

If you love fashion, this is the place to go! Excellent exhibits, and it's FREE!!

Darling Murillo

If you love fashion and its history, you must go to the museum at FIT, a must go in NYC.

Joe Hartman

My grands seem to enjoy fashion and were excited to have a visit to the FIT Museum on our NYC agenda. The museum was quite close to our hotel in Chelsea. However, once inside the small facility which consisted of about 2-3 rooms, the grands seemed to lose interest fairly quickly (pre-teen and teen). The museum was clean and well-staffed; restrooms were nearby. There was no entry fee.

Yael Finkelstein

It was nice to see, only if you passing by

Elysa Katz

Always something fabulous to explore

Helena Pulido

The museum was free and small, but I found it very interesting. I went to see "Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color" and they had such beautiful outfits, and the history behind most of them is really interesting.

Laura Vidal

Enjoy all the exhibits there.

Bino Alves

Well organized and love Fashion

Alison Boncha

I went for the Pink exhibit which was great, two rooms full of outfits from way back to present day and there was easy to read information about every outfit. Event though the special exhibit is small, there is also another room upstairs that looks like a permanent exhibit. It's a great free museum for sure!

Heather Neal

Great pieces timeless information fashion is amazing!!!

Christine Rosenbaum

I had a wonderful time viewing the students' incredibly talented art work. It was inspiring.

Sharon Ganot

Very small, but cute and free, cool exhibit. Wouldn’t take a special trip, but if you are around just jump in for half an hour...

Gabriel Rubiñán

This is a small space but make no mistake, it’s a must see! The exhibitions are always thought-provoking and creatively put together, the themes span diverse eras and fashion movements. Want more convincing? It’s completely free.

Renee Mills

Excellent experience. The displays were wonderful. Very informative. Lots of information about textiles, patterns and garment repair.

Barbara mackay

Very interesting exhibit. Small. Free. A nice diversion. Recommend a visit.

Kyle Weber

It's free and surprisingly well curated. As someone with no sense of fashion, I found the text accompanying the exhibits to be clear enough to give me a sense of what triggered the choices made by each era's fashion designers. The exhibit itself is extremely small (I wouldn't spend more than 60-90 minutes here), this lovely museum is an excellent detour for locals and tourists alike.

Patty Donaldson

Free museum with permanent and special displays... If you like fashion, this is a must-see!

wendy gettis

Ridiculously gorgeous though the years fashion.

Leo Stride

I go there often I love visiting this museum every so often. The exhibits rotate, and it’s free to enter! There’s also a public bathroom in the lobby which is good to know when you’re stranded in the city :) definitely check it out if you have some free time. It’s a small museum so you don’t need to spend hours here.

Carol Filippi

Interesting. Some nice exaples of period clothing. Mostly 20th c. Free

Rich K.

I guess its a 5 star for women like my wife she spent an hour reading all the info that goes along with the fashion. As for me i walked through in about 5 minutes i guess there are about 200 dresses on display and two video monitors. So it can be a quick tour if you are not into fashion. As a professional I would recommend the museum add more LED lighting to brighten up the displays and add mirrors so you can see the backs of the dresses. You can only see the front and God forbid you lean too close. The alarms go off and security comes right over.

Rosemary

Always a wonderful fashion exhibition and free to the public If you love fashion, this is a must visit

P. Carlos Agbessi

Very neat fashion museum in the heart of New York city. Place to visit!

Carla Rupp

Fun exhibit. Creative and well-organized. I enjoyed it. My son graduated at FIT, so I love it here. Atmosphere is artsy.

Luísa Fedrizzi

great museum for fashion lovers. interesting exhibits and free entrance. totally worth it.

Elizabeth VanValkenburg

It's a nice free gallery in an expensive city. The designs are unique, so I'd recommend taking a few minutes to explore. It's not a large exhibit, so you wouldn't need more than an hour unless you live for fashion.

Kim Bulls

Interesting account of fashion history

Oksana Pavlova

Nice, but very small exhibition

petras sk

Free of charge museum which is interesting even for those who are not in to fashion design. Different theme exhibitions are updated seasonally.

Kathleen Monich

Free and open to the public. Easy to do during a lunch break for those that work in the area. Great little museum next to FIT that is interesting to anyone, really. (I have no fashion background.) The exhibits rotate so I imagine it’s just as good for a second visit.

Irma Zandl

I was here for NYFW. Fantastic runway show for launch of Puma x Jahnkoy collaboration.

Anna Hult

Very informative and interesting exhibition about clothes and it's fibres.

Josh Bottfeld

A great place to go if you have a free afternoon. There is no admission charge to see the museum at FIT. When we went they were doing a exhibition on the color pink. Very interesting and definitely worth the time.

David Spence

One of the best Fashion and Design Industry Archives ever! A true New York City gem, and it's free! Bravo, SUNY!

Joseph Solfaro

Quality boutique exhibits

Debra Mullins

Free! Interesting exhibits. Midtown, near other points of interest.

Chika Ehirim

The displays were very nice but the gallery seemed fairly small. Expected more.

Josh Pusch

Free admission but the exhibits there are very specific for fashion students; not great for the general public.

James Poulos

5 stars for its availability and displays. It is rather limited though, small, tiny, and limited but free and super cool.

G Aquino

Compact museum dedicated to fashion and focusing on a specific theme. When I visited, it was African-American designers and models. Along with fabrics, style, and design aesthetics, the narrative also touched on the history and early struggles of both designers and models. It's also interesting to see how African-American fashion has evolved over the years. Admission is free. An hour is more than enough to see all exhibits.

G. Engel

Interesting. Peaceful. Pleasant. Quick. Free .

Heidi Bayer

Excellent exhibitions ... and free!

Edwin Croverz

Attended an exhibition here and saw fashion through the ages. It opened my eyes to how styles change over time and what future trends might be. It inspired my wife's clothing business trajectory.

Naveen Vaddadi

We have been to NYC several times but this was our first time visiting the Museum at FIT. It’s completely free, and in my opinion at least a quick stop if your in the Chelsea area. We went in the end of May so it was a pleasant surprise to see that they had a bunch of final projects for exhibitions. Some of the pieces were absolutely amazing, and all of the were imaginative.

Libby Pollak

The Museum at FIT has seasonal exhibitions that are always informative and interesting.

Janice Kastendieck

Great exhibits, well cursted and interesting

Rajaram Pejaver

Fun to see the funny things that designers think people will wear. Imagine engineers building products like that. But entrance was free.

Szeyin Lee

Very interesting and informative exhibition on color pink this winter season. Cons: no coat check

Lindsey Beck

Very short but interesting. Takes around an hour to see museum.

Jamie C

We enjoyed it. It was free and enjoyable experience if you are into fashion or sewing.

stephen raynolds

One of the most beautiful and important museums of Manhattan. The exhibitions at FIT are stunning. The museum has easy access to the public in addition it has bathrooms that are handicap accessible. The entrance to the museum is free. The building has several floors full of rooms embracing the beauty of fashion from different eras. Many perspectives of design and designing. Great place to get inspired and get a feeling of what it is, it was, and will be in fashion.

Elizabeth McMahon

The United States' premier museum of clothing and fashion. Well thought out exhibitions across two accessible galleries. Easy to get to hours and it's free. And it draws upon the museum's excellent collection.

Sarah McCollum Williams

Interesting shows, good for a quick walk through if in the neighborhood.

Izaak Baker

It's a free art/fashion museum with a pretty expansive exhibition space! If you're even casually interested in style/fashion, or just have an hour to kill in Chelsea, it's worth it.

markness153

It's the history of clothing, it's a must if you wear clothing, only a nudist won't enjoy it. Have fun, it's historic!!!!....

Melissa Kindblad

Free entry, amazing exhibits, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit

Wenceslao Plazas

Wonderful!!! Just that

Saima Huq

I love this FREE well-curated museum.

Tonja Burden

My sis and I had a a good time at the Wendy Williams Show.

Michelle P

I just had a terrible experience at this museum. I usually don’t write reviews. The security there needs some serious training on customer service. JOHN BAILEY who was working in the front was finding every possible reason to publicly humiliate my family. It felt like he was breathing down our necks and there were targets on our heads. My child was tired from walking around the city and as we were in the front lobby trying to get directions he yelled at my child when she laid on the front lobby bench near the exit door. When I asked why he said it was a museum and laying on the bench was not allowed. I did not see any signs anywhere that stated this was not allowed. A very unprofessional way to address any concern. There are signs before entering the exhibit that state no food or drinks are allowed. Signs need to be placed near benches so people know they are for sitting only. Update: Contacted the supervisor and director over a week ago and still no reply. Addressing guest concerns is not a priority.

Kacper Jarecki

It's a free museum, for goodness sakes! Definitely worth checking out! It's small and cozy, but still bigger than a lot of other small museums - and cheaper too!

SONYA SAHANI

Admission is free for all..for both FIT locations. Nice place to visit with younger children.

Anthony Muljadi

Free but not worth a special journey

Omi Dreamer

Great place to visit.

Maritza Horsham

Very interesting.

Ashley Polikoff

Great small, free fashion museum with the downstairs exhibit rivaling anything you'd see at the Met

Analeigha Ortega

Free museums are great, and the FIT is no exception. Check their calendar to see if an exhibit strikes your fancy. They are always well done.

Gene S

Changing exhibits and curated showings of current and historical fashion and design trends, ideas and important and not important people and places related to fashion. Most exhibits are so well mounted, that even people with no interest in fashion (like me), can enjoy going.

Katherin rangel bautista

Great place for learners !

Gary Stephens

Great exhibits! If you are into fashion - this is a must see. You can tour the school as well, check the website for times. There is a NYC pizza place across the street, it’s the stuff.

Diana Berisha

Beautiful and carefully chosen exibits. Very informative. Will be back!

Wade Lee

Always an amazing experience. LOVE The Museum at FIT

Dshea Kinta McRae

Enjoyed the exhibition.

Robert Smith

I am not a fashion guy but really enjoyed my time here. I loved the historical and scientific information provided for each of the displays.

Fashion Education For those in clothing and accessories fashion, this is an absolute must to visit. Force of Nature shows how nature influences fashion in fabric printing of patterns and styling of clothes, hats and shoes. Melissa Marra's curated analysis of associating Darwin's theory of natural selection and sexual attraction in animals by colouring and fashion designers conscious copying of animals skin colours, patterns, textures and feathers and environment also to attract attention is insightful for viewers and shoppers as well. Clothing for females is made for attracting attention whereas for males less so, to match the animal kingdom. Females attract and males are attracted. Women probably shop more than men, whether consciously or unconsciously with this in mind. Note: this is free education in fashion from a university that teaches it.

Jennifer Stock

Excellent curated exhibits on Paris fashion and Minimalism/Maximalism, plus student work in Reflections. A perfect Saturday morning.

Maren Schwarzer

Loved all the different garments from different episodes!

Arpit Gawande

Nice museum which tells the history of cloth making through different designs.

VOLPE VOLPE

Free little museum in the basement of the academy. Exhibitions change from time to time. A must for anyone even remotely into fashion

Mary Swike

It's fabulous

Jo-Ann McAvoy

Beautiful fashion pieces with focus on Paris

James Palka

Small , very intriguing, free fashion exhibit.

Ron

Hey, it's a free museum so why not give it a try. It is fairly small, and I covered it all in 30 minutes. You can find here exhibitions about clothing and its design. The exhibitions are changing and when I was here it was about late 1800s and early 1900s dresses, as well as uniforms throughout time. If you love design and clothing then definitely check the place out for some history and inspiration.

Veronica Bartley

Beautiful presentation of PI NK, PRETTY, PUNK AND POWERFUL. And admission is free!!

Ashik Kabir

Not really worth the visit. Small exhibitions.

Mariah Mckenzie

Cool place to check out and it's free!

Angel R

I look forward to all the exhibits every year! It's free to visit! The exhibits are always set up nice and professional... you could compare to the MET.

Karen Preissler

Seems like this small museum is an undiscovered, under visited place. I didn't know about it until my plus eighty year old mother insisted on visiting her former school. (Originally not at this address.) A floor under the main lobby is a large exhibition space. Free admission. The eclectic show we saw illustrated changing fashion ideas from new discoveres in nature and science. Entertaining, enlightening, inspiring.

Julia Balducci Blake

Great exhibit in textiles throughout history. Beautiful examples and interesting info. It was also free.

Vy Nguyen

Kinda small but interesting nonetheless

Eleni Palmos

FREE! Their exhibits are free. Their talks are too. A few years ago, they had an exhibit inspired by fairy tales. It was gorgeous. The latest exhibit (Fall 2018) on the color pink featured works by Elsa Schiaparelli and a talk open to the public sponsored by Mary Kay. Their website features an audio tour with no need to rent a unit like at the Met Museum. Their hours are flexible and the exhibits are usually open till 8p.

Morgan Eva

Small, but a very interesting place. It's a great stop if you're in SoHo, or if you are into fashion. Also, its free!

W

It's free. But only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk through.

Stacey Quandt

Interesting exhibition on the color pink. It is a small exhibit in comparison to fashion exhibitions at the DeYoung in San Francisco and the MET. However it is well curated.

Reaim Nicolas

I like the little history of each piece. Unfortunately there were not enough work being exposed. I expected my visit to last a good two to three hours but lasted around 45 mns because i read each note.

Sheldon Stewart

This was a nice visit with my wife that provided a nice history with the Pink Display this month. Be aware of the sensors if you get to close that will trigger an audible alarm, enjoy from a distance.

J M

Free and usually comprehensive and interesting exhibits.

Roz Martin

Free! and interesting to any observer of ladies' fashions.

Allison Heenie

Gorgeous layout with great exibits!

Steven Greenbaum

Fascinating retrospective of their exhibits. A must see if you have any interest in fashion and fabric history

Joe Anderson

Cool place

noah goldman

The Disney exhibit was phenomenal! It’s one thing to witness the musicals, but to see the costumery up close was a treat!

ELIZABETH WILLIAMS

Wonderful museum of fashion, that has over taken the Met. It's the premier spot now. Bravo FIT!

Jaron Roering

Interesting, but brief museum. It's free, so definitely worth a stop.

Zoe Long

Incredible exhibits. If you're interested in fashion, styling or history in any way check it out. I make it a point to see every exhibit they offer. Usually it's a smaller one upstairs with tons of facts and history, and a larger one in the basement. Very well curated and informative. Love this place!

mary cresseveur-reed

Fantastic display of fashion. Great free museum

Andreana

Great Museum! Offered a lot of information and example about the fashion there within. Though the guards where worrisome. They did not seem to mind when an alarm was set off. It took one guard at least two minutes to warn a woman about being too close to an outfit. The alarm was going off the whole time.

Nancy Brennan

This is an interesting free exhibit detailing the change in women's dress going back to the 1500's. The clothing, mostly period dresses, is on display with explanation of the relevant fabric and the evolution of different fabrics throughout the centuries up to present day. My only complaint is that this important information is contained in signage which is too close to the floor and gets blocked by the legs of those standing in front looking at the garments.

Rich Ledson

Great fabrics and clothing retrospective

lyndon mills

The museum is definitely very well put together only thing I wish the exhibit was bigger but other than that the pieces are displayed with great information

Julie Valenca

Very small but fascinating! !

Stace D

This little museum is very much an underrated gem in the city. If you love fashion and history, check it out! There is the main floor gallery and a space downstairs. I stop by here all the time. P.S, it's free!

Alan Wu

Free and open to the public, a place to see if you are a serious student of current fashion and fashion history. Guards will not let you in if you have any luggage with you.

Joseph Aulder

A Beautiful place to bring the family out to

AJ T

This museum is very small - maybe 70-100 sq meters or 800 sq ft - unless I mistakenly saw only one of many galleries. The collection is fashion focused and appears to change every few months. The specific one I saw in April was nicely done with the evolution of western women's undergarments and shaping the body. I very much enjoyed the exhibit and spent about 40 minutes at this free museum. I also discovered they have online exhibits which I will have to explore.

B E S

Always fascinating and free!!! And when you've been walking all day, they have a climate controlled lobby with benches and a public restroom :)

Steve

A great exhibit! And it was free.

asheesh pande

Excellent learning experience.

Samantha Jones

Nik Prithviraj

LISA ADJEI

Beautiful well created and curated pink collection of fashions !! Everything for the pink lover!

Natalia Hanson

Little fashion museum with designer clothing and shoes on display for inspiration of the students of Fashion Institute of Technology

Kelsey Ross

I love visiting this museum every so often. The exhibits rotate, and it’s free to enter! There’s also a public bathroom in the lobby which is good to know when you’re stranded in the city :) definitely check it out if you have some free time. It’s a small museum so you don’t need to spend hours here.

Jonathan Lucas

It's a fun and whimsical place. Perfect for a moment alone or a first date.

Polina Osherov

Love this place! Always a great fashion exhibit to check out!

Jonias Rivera

If you're a fashionista, this is your place to visitá!

Isabel Peñalver

Small but enjoyable. Really enjoyed the short proyecting video about the contemporary fashion world and its shift into a more accepting trend of plus size and 'imperfect' (just human) women.

XUMMIE

Great museum. Enjoyed looking at the fashion and a glimpse of the story behind the pieces.

Nicolas Salkider
