REVIEWS OF The Metropolitan Museum of Art IN New York

Patricia Yamada

The best. I have been visiting regularly for 50 years. Permanent collections amazing, and special shows inspiring.

Ran Kam

A must in New York! We could have spent a week here - tons to see. From the ancient sculptures to the paintings, I loved marvelling at the craftmenship and skill. While family (12 & 18) enjoyed the day here. Nice to visit the upper east side too.

Samuel Howard

One of the world's greatest art museums, a visitor can spend several days here and not really see everything. Therefore, while not ruling out serendipity, you probably want to have a plan about what kind of things you want to see and pace yourself, the museum will be here when you come for a return visit. Consider entering through the downstairs entrance to the left of the main steps, it's usually less crowded.

Inara Timirgalieva

It is a must have. Plan your day properly as trip to the museum may take a whole day. There are thousand things to see. Buy your ticket online, in advance, it is easy and avoid staying in huge lines to buy your ticket. Pretty crowded but it is expected when you come to place like this. If you have 4-5 year olds who are explorers, their interest might be lost right after the ancient Egypt exhibitions:-)))

Meg Caccavale

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most beautiful. I recently visited this museum with my husband. We were both impressed. The museum is huge. Here is an incredible amount of art from different eras from around the world. The staff is friendly, the food in the buffet is delicious. We spent 5 hours there enjoying the exhibits. Now this is my favorite museum. Highly recommend!

Biplab Das

If you love museums, this is a MUST visit place for you. There are so many things to see. It is really worth the money. Adult ticket costs 25$ , however it is valid for 72 hours, so if you cant cover all in one day , you can visit within next 3 days. My suggestion would be to wear comfortable shoes as you have to walk a lot ( museum is really big). There are cafes inside but very pricy. I had food from the street vendors just outside the museum( there are plenty of choices, specially with Lebanese food) and i really loved it.

Lloyd Pheps

What can I say? I love the Met. The last time I was here was years ago and it's still as great as I remember it. I got there early and loved exploring the different rooms. They had an exhibition of the Dutch Masterpieces and I saw paintings from Rembrandt and my favorite artist Vermeer. I met my friend a couple hours later and we went to see the Egyptian wing and armory. I wanted more time to see the rest of the museum but there is never enough time! It is a total zoo after noon so be sure that you get there early so you can enjoy yourself before the craziness and in my case, the rising temperature of the museum because of all the people there.

Andrew Rupinski

You don't have to pay, but you should give what you can afford. If you're rich, you should pay a lot. It's very simple. One of the greatest museums in the world

Iain McKone

Wonderful facility with very helpful staff. It takes a few days to get through it all. A bit busy if you need to sit anywhere or if you want to sketch. Nice cafe, fountains, and exhibits. Recommended.

Hannah Yoo

The Met is my favorite art museum. They have a lot of famous works and they often get new exhibits. Some exhibits are hit and miss but there's usually one that's worth going to. Their store is pretty nice too. A lot of things are on sale if you go downstairs.

Sybille Guler

Very nice art collection. The Met takes time( on a rainy day you can spend a whole day there). I found my favorite sculptor fascinating Auguste Rodin. Yeah what a wonderful world.

Joe Cacciapaglia

One of the finest museums in America! It's like taking a trip to ancient worlds such as Rome, Egypt, Greece, China and Japan. A real bonus was the Play it Loud exhibition with instruments and other memorabilia of early to modern day rock stars. You could spend a month in here and not be finished viewing all the exhibits

Luke Coull

Massive venue. Definitely need a full day to see everything. Displays were amazing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cafe was disappointing in range and price of food. Entry fee was $25 USD per person. Included all exhibits. Could add extras if wanted.

Patricia A Johnson

This is a great place with many interesting exhibits. But I suggest you take a tour or workshop. The docent and instructors are so interesting and knowledgeable. These were two unique exhibits. One teacher taught how to do an art piece with a roll of tape. Never enter my mind to draw with tape. It really makes you appreciate creativity, and how a piece of art comes together from the artist point of view. Enjoy.

Rach Campbell

The Met doesn't disappoint, what does is the mass amounts of crowds. I think it would be best to go right when it opens and then go straight to the Egyptian exhibit. Once that's done you can explore the rest of the museum at your leisure and not worry about too many people in your way.

Wendy Adam

I have a special membership for people who live a distance away. Great value to visit occasionally and get benefits when you renew. The museum gets better as you know it better.

Shayla Reynolds

Do an Oasis tour if you enjoy bible knowledge. However the Met is an amazing place. I don't think you'll ever get to see enough of it as the knowledge is seemingly endless! A real anthropologist's play house! You won't regret it.

Johnathan Siebert

There is nothing I can write about the Met that hasn’t already been written. If you’re in the city and have never been to the Met you should go. It is one of the world’s best museums with such an impressive and varied collection of art you could spend days in here and never see the same thing twice. Spend two hours here or come back three days in a row, regardless you won’t have wasted a second of time. A highly enriching experience!

Jonathan Léger

10/10 dont miss it. There is not enough time in the day, week or month to see and truly appreciate all the museum has to offer. The expansive galleries are simply amazing to see and experience. If you live nearby or for those who are true art fanatics, breaking up visits might be worthwhile. I would suggest avoiding weekends and going earlier in the day to limit exposure to the crowds and enhance your experience.

Liz Savery

This is one of the jewels of New York City, and I am eternally grateful that I'm lucky enough to live here and know this museum as well as I do. It's got a little something for everyone, from art to sculpture architecture to sarcophagi for the kids. When I was in college, I would sit and read in the Temple of Dendur, an actual Egyptian pyramid. The American Wing is my favorite place. The museum is usually jam-packed so if there's a way to visit that's not a weekend, that's ideal.

Alex

In the couple hours I was able to spend here, I do not even think I saw 25% of the place. The building itself is stunning, with so many different rooms and environments, and at times it even appears as if they are buildings within buildings. There is so much a tremendous amount of variety in its exhibits as well, from Ancient Greece all the way to modern America. The special exhibit of Rock & Roll was very well done too, and I wish I would have gotten to see the other temporary exhibits, especially that of the Moon Landing. The view from the rooftop is also incredible, it's nice to see the city from Central Park up top instead of on the ground.I have been to many museums in many different places, but even as someone who is nowhere near an art expert, the Met is by far the best. The place is absolutely mesmerizing, and I have to go back again, and probably a few more times after that. (Also, pay what you want admission for nearby residents makes it way more affordable for families too, which can be a major bonus compared to other places in New York City)

Kent Andrews

This museum is one of the best and most important places to visit in NYC regardless if you are from out of town or live in the area. The museum is so expansive and has so many great and interesting art pieces and artifacts. In order for one to see the whole museum I would recommend getting a membership and revisit every month. There is so much to see!!

Lilian Irving

A lot of respect to NYC for having one of the most amazing museums in the word. Spent almost all day here and had the best time. One thing that they need to make clearer is that the entrance cost is donation based. I felt they kind of not said it out loud. I did donate since it is really amazing. But it should be our there.

William Marks

Where to start. Fantastic place. Such a variety of exhibitions and things to do. You must allocate a good proportion of time to fully explore this magical place. The staff are all fantastic and very helpful and informative. The food is slightly overpriced but that is to be expected. The history of the place is just mind blowing. I was lucky enough to see the ancient Egypt exhibition and it was simply breathtaking m I highly recommend this place to all. There is also plenty to do with children to keep them entertained.

Daisie

There are few Museums that hold my interest for long, but the Metropolitan museum is one of those museums that takes days to go through an endless abundant amount of art, history and exhibitions. I absolutely love the MET!

Nic Duersch

One of my favorite experiences of the trip. So SO cool being able to see all the history in here. With so many famous artists' greatest works it is truly a magical experience being able to walk around here. There is so much to do that you literally could be here all day and not see everything. My wife and I spent 2 and a half hours here and maybe saw a 1/4 of what the Museum had to offer. It is well worth the price, the building is beautiful, the staff is awesome, it was a great experience!

Fred Skeberg

Simply a great museum with loads of must see art from all the greats. A bit crowded at times, especially around the most known paintings. Free audio guide available as well, don’t miss the shop on the way out.

John Gibson

Superb museum and a great pleasure to visit. Staff are courteous and helpful. In our 2 visits in Aug and Sept 2019 the queues were reasonable and manageable. Even a full day here will only scratch the surface. Tickets valid for about 3 days.

kim walker

This place really is wonderful! One of the greatest places on earth! Wish I could go back and spend more time there. A real privilege

Tiffany McNeish

I have spent countless hours wandering around this museum. My favorite sections are their collections of middle eastern art and their sprawling collection of art from the ancient eastern and south eastern Asian civs. Amazing collection of modern Euro/American art. This museum is too big to experience in one day, which means every time you visit, you can have a totally different experience.

Joey Chan

A very pleasant visit. The collection of artifacts is unimaginably vast and hugely diversed. The staff are very helpful and nice. Aside from the artifacts, several parts of the museum have incredible design as well. The many wings make it hard to navigate and find your way, so be sure to grab a map at information booths. Few hours in the afternoon well spent!

Cornelia Veliani

The Metropolitan museum of Arts experience is amazing! We visited the museum for 2 days, but there are so many things you can see, that we would have visited the museum again had we stayed longer in NY. The gift shop has a great variety of souvenirs to buy and there is also a coffee shop in the bookstore. We really enjoyed our visit there!

Dylan St. Clair

An incredible blend of exhibits, ranging from today's art to those from before Christ. It's an incredible place worth every minute of exploration. We spent 2 hours there and could easily spend another 10. Can't wait to go back one day.

Maja Jurek

Very beautiful and huge place. You need couple hours to see most (it is impossible to see everything :p). But when you buy ticket you have three days to see it and other MET places. You can also go on roof and have a great view on central park and Manhattan.

Joshua Llodrat

The Met is one of my favorite places in the city. This is not a one day kind of place! You could technically see it all in one day but you won’t be able to truly appreciate and absorb it all. Going to the Met means taking your time and will take a few days to truly take in all of the amazing art. Getting a membership is worth it if you visit several times a year or even once a month! The rooftop is a great place to hang out during the summer with amazing views of the skyline. The permanent collections are divine and there is always a new collection to check out. My suggestion is to check out the “What’s On This Season” or Events page online to plan out exactly what you want to see before you get there. The staff is wonderful and always helpful! I have been going for over 10 years now and I always see something new and different. If visiting the city or if you live here then you must take sometime to visit this museum!

David Kastelein

Great collection and beautiful building. If you have to choose between Guggenheim and the MET, go for this one! Real recommended. Ticket prices are really reasonable!

Beatrice Bersani

Initially I thought it would be too overwhelming but I ended up going and it was incredible. I visited just the areas i knew i would enjoy and i was inside for a little more than 2 hrs. Most of the pieces are incredibly famous so you really don't feel lost.

Peterson Toscano

Notes on Camp. well no one can agree on the definition of camp, this display does a great job of hurling a bunch of beautiful, provocative, and playful demonstrations of it. there is a running audio narrative of various people attempting to define camp. While it was a fun and informative exhibit, it was so slick and stylish it felt strangely cold and austere. You can take plenty of photos but do not shoot video. The guard will jump out at you and force you to delete what you shot.

Jessica Hash

Sad to see it’s a mandatory admission fee of $25.00 for out of state guests now, used to be suggested admission back in the day but still an insanely impressive museum. I feel like a kid in a candy shop every time I go.

Carrie O'hara

Amazing collection of furniture and period rooms, the Egyptian collection is also very interesting. They also have a unique collection of weapons and and armor that is worth checking out. Great day, wish I had had more time to explore

Kathy Chapekis

We walked from the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americas through Central Park to reach the Metropolitan a out a mile and a half away. It was a pleasant walk getting there but on a day where rain is predicted, make sure to being an umbrella. We were caught in a downpour on the way back... The Metropolitan is fantastic! We especially liked the new exhibits on Rock and Roll and Camp. We spent a total of about six hours there and still didn't cover everything. It was a good idea to start on the second floor and work our way down to avoid crowds. Among the exhibits that we enjoyed were Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, Van Gogh. Monet, American, Chinese, Cyprus, Africa, Medieval Times and Modern. We didn't eat there so that we could cover as much of the museum as possible. Our baby granddaughter was with us and even she enjoyed it! She especially enjoyed Rock and Roll!!! Tips - If you are a New York resident, your group can get in with only a donation. Just show proof of residency.

Shashank Abhisheik

Be prepared to spend at least two full days! The collection is just way too extensive! Even after spending a full day, it felt like we hadn't spent enough time reflecting on any of the art works. This really needs to be seen at a very leisurely, very patient pace

Huichin Yi

The most magnificent museum I've been to. As soon as you walk in your are amazed with all the amazing sculptures and art you're surrounded by

John Burkert

Great experience ! Beautiful museum well laid out, display's well thought out and easy to view even with a large crowd in the building. The audio tour was included with the ticket price and was worth using. Although in some places it was hard to find the number for the audio tour. Bought tickets online easy to do and they were good for all three of the MET museums, for three consecutive days. The temple is a must see. The collection is large and diverse.

Nate Meier

Hands down the best museum in new york city. The size of this museum is impressive. To adequately view all the immaculate pieces of art and history, you'll need multiple days to explore all the areas. With specific exhibits ranging from music history to medieval times to Papa New Guinea to Egyptian history, as well as the typical painting type art, this museum has housed it all. The museum has a "pay what you can afford" philosophy if you go to the desk instead of purchasing your tickets online, at the electronic kiosks or elsewhere. Highly recommend any trip to NYC include a visit to the "MET".

Nicole Yuen

This place made me feel like I was in Europe again! They have amazing collections and exhibits. My favourite was the armour section. I’ve never seen armour from japan, Rome, England, or Islam before. And they have it all! The amazing detail and time they took into carving and forming the swords, guns, and armour is impeccable!

Vidya Amin

Amazing place - wealth in history and culture. New Yorkers live next to a gem that is worth visiting all year around. Take a day or two out to see the exhibitions. Time well spent!

ReaSieKie

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or simply the Met, was made in 1870. It is an abode to world's finest art collections. The Met is the largest museum of United States and among the most popular in the world. It has collections of marvellous pieces of art spanning more than five thousand years of world history and culture. The exhibition includes the work from the prehistoric times to the very recent times and from every part of the world. Avoid standing in queues by availing the tickets online which are available at the exact same price on the website.

Toon Shader

I saw you in my room. Not sure what you were doing there. But I saw you in my room. You didn't see me though. I watched you for a good 15 minutes. I think you were trying to steal something, but all you stole was my heart. Please call me.

AllyB Guy

The Met is just a hands down wonderful experience. It can get crowded but not hectic. You will feel right in place no matter what you wear here (it feels phenomenal to class it up though

Christie Berrier

Wish I could stay overnight and see what comes to life! Our favorite room, the armor room, never disappoints! But there is always a lot to see and exhibits change every visit. Highly recommend this dose of culture. Don’t miss the Vermeers, the impressionists, the armor room, the tomb... there is so much to list. Really, you can’t go wrong here!

laurie S

Very much enjoyed my day@ THE MET! The Last Knight latest exhibit till Jan 2020, w/ membership you can bring a guest with you, extensive gift shop Nice cafes, if you don’t feel like eating inside There’s food trucks down the steps with table and seats in between water fountains

Tony DM

Great tourist attraction! This was on my wife's list of places we had to check out and we did not regret extending our trip an extra day just to have enough time as this was the last spot on her list! Very nice experience, cool art displays, lovely staff!

Wade Brinton

Such an amazing museum. You could spend days here and still miss something. We spent four hours at what we thought was a fast pace and only saw two thirds of everything. The audio guides are nice. I am not sure why some areas they wanted us to wear our backpacks on our frontside. Such a silly request.

Sally Wong

Great place. Love it. Wish we had more time. The place is so huge that we couldn't finish it in one day. Just went to the area that interested us. We were only able to see 60 percent of the museum in a day.

Bob Fyke

One of the great museums of the world. So much to see. One favorite for me is the American wing and the great landscapes of th Hudson River School. Don't miss Heart of the Andes, by Church. Otherwise, must see Monet and Van Gough works that are spectacular. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Oh yeah, go to the roof for the view and special exhibits.

Julie Caputo

We love the Met and all the wonderful exhibits, but Play it Loud was very disorganized with way too many people crammed together, pushing and shoving with no staff to be seen...just chaos. We're still glad we went, and the rest of our visit was fine. We'll be back soon.

Seth Grossman

Decent museum if you enjoy the exhibits that it has. I am a big fan of the fact that if you have a NY ID you can pay what you think is reasonable. This means I am more likely to go for just a few hours to see one exhibit instead of feeling like I need to spend the entire day there due to the cost of admission.

Farhan Jamalvy

One of the best museums in NYC. Entry is free but there're tickets to most exhibitions. The gift shop is huge with zillions of relics, memorabilia, t shirts, books, toys and jewelry ranging between $5 and $500. The kids section offers unique and artsy toys, making it a family-friendly place.

Dan Lopez

Worth the visit! Really good museum with a ton of art masterpieces. Shy of 5 stars but mostly on account of the rude staff and despite of having two entrances, only one is operational.

Michael Oxendine

What an amazing collection of art and history! What terrible bathrooms and simple necessities that make visiting a place a more comfortable experience. The Met has access to billions of dollars but the bathrooms look like they belong in a seedy bar somewhere. I know people do not go for the bathrooms, but that is no reason to overlook a basic comfort/utility that will be used by just about everyone.

Konstantinos Babetas

Even if you are not the biggest fan of art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art definitely has something to offer for you. From ancient Egypt exhibits to contemporary art everyone will find something that will be amazed by. Definitely worth visiting and please allow a lot of hours to explore it!

Rick C

One of the greatest and most extensive art history museums in the world. So much to see and learn and so much artistic inspiration. The top floor garden area is also really nice and there are a lot of places here to sit down and relax and sketch. The fairly new polynesian art section is amazing and all the history in the museum is overwhelming and fun to learn about. Would highly recommend taking the time to look at everything.

Nathan Jones

The best art museum I've ever been to in terms of variety and quality of pieces. Absolutely amazing. I saw Starry Night here and countless other famous originals.

G Aquino

Very disappointed during a recent visit, not by the exhibitions (which were great as usual), but by the lack of crowd control. I counted at least ten staff at the main lobby. Only four of them were manning the ticket counters, so the line was very long and no one was there to ensure that the queue was orderly and didn't take up most of the space. To be fair, they try to be pleasant but they're just overworked. Meanwhile, the others were stationed comfortably at the information desks, unmindful of the chaos around them. Ticket selling is not a specialized skill so I don't see why those folks are not providing support when the ticket counters are backed up. We could have used the vending machines but since we're residents and wanted to pay-as-we-wish, we had no choice but to line up (the ticket vending machines only support full admission payments). And then on one of the more popular special exhibitions, there was a passageway that led to the main exhibition space. That passageway was so narrow you could barely move without bumping into someone. I've seen other museums where staff would be on hand to limit and control foot traffic. To the folks running this museum: If you haven't realized by now, you're a popular and heavily promoted museum, one of only a handful in the city that most visitors will get a chance to visit. Crowd control is not rocket science. Do something. --------------------- A day is never enough to visit all exhibits in this massive museum. For those with limited time, visit the museum website before arriving and make a list of must-see exhibits. The best souvenir for me is the book called Metropolitan Museum of Art Guide, available at the museum store, which highlights the most noteworthy art pieces.

Jeremy Odden

Hands down, the best art museum I've ever been to. An entire day isn't enough to see the whole place, and with three facilities I didn't even try to go to more than one. It's simply not possible! Holy cow, such an intersection of quality and quantity I've never seen!

Serina Wong

This was a very nice museum to visit to look at all the nice art. There are many different forms of art there as well to painting on canvas to sculptures and statues. If you take the time to really look into the art, each and every art piece you can tell they're all very detailed. Many pieces you can even feel emotional due to the effect of the artwork. There's also a semi-secret area where there's just a storage room of several art pieces that are worth to look at too. Over all this is a great place to go especially for artist who understand dedication and detail. But if you want to bring a kid I wouldn't suggest to do that because if they don't appreciate art they'll see it as something uninteresting to them.

Mario Scalini

One of the ten top museums in the world... for many among the five best. The collections are wide and perfectly on show. The staff is the most trained in the west and very enthusiast and proud of their position. For the visitors an experience one must have in the life. Some works which are doubtful are correctly identified so that if you have time and brain can learn something. Every critic must de reduced in this general consideration of excellence.

Gen P

I went to the Met expecting to see about 8 Monets and I was so thrilled they had far more than that! The building is gorgeous. The shops are thorough. Buying tickets in advance saves time as you can print at a kiosk. Lots of staff, all helpful. Some of them are genuine art lovers! It’s a huge place, could take a couple days to see everything.

Vladimír Kružík

Very disorganized and lines for everything. Half an hour wait outside in heavy rain just to get thru the security check, that is actually worthless as they check bags only. Need to use a toilet? Prepare for a wait. Want to buy a sandwich or coffee in the cafeteria? Expect another half an hour of waiting. The whole place is a maze, very difficult to navigate inside and not get lost even when using the map. The staff is unpleasant when seeing kids not just sitting in the stroller and looking quietly around. The content is interesting, the experience terrible.

Ray Quinones

Great place to spend the day if you love history. The museum is so big that it requires multiple day visits to fully enjoy it. Good place to go if visiting the city.

Mrs. Davidson

Took Oasis tour. They definitely do not disappoint!!!! Well studied guides and extremely informative. Lots of genuine historical artifacts and very few reproductions in museum. I'd definitely say spend a day or two there.

Nicholas Dacchille

Most amazing place. You can spend a month in here and only see some of what is in on display. Something for everyone to marvel at. The Art Lovers paradise.

Laurie Arvay

My husband and I came to the East Coast to visit our son who is only in Connecticut for a year opening a couple of new restaurants and he could only get away from work for 24 hours to show us New York... It was awesome... he set our itinerary by the sites he thought would have the most impact on us... and one of those places was the Met... he just said we had to keep on a time limit and had to choose our areas before going in... he said he spent 7 hours in there the first time and didn't see it all... I have a disability that isn't apparent to the average person and I need 2 special needs dogs... I came in and it was apparent that not many people came in with special needs dogs but Mark at the front desk helped me and got us special stickers.... i appreciate him helping me have such a wonderful opportunity and experience...

Agustina Masarich

You can spend HOURS here. It's beautiful, Incredible. I loved it. A must do without a doubt.

Jaden Mo

This place is huge, and was crowed during holidays or events. The time we spend here is about 6 hours but have to leave because of closing time. Better come early and know what area you want to visit first. We spend hours here and haven't finish seeing all of it. They changed the items on display time to time, so it never gets bored when visiting again.

Namdev Sachathep

The MET did not disappoint. Large beautiful facade. Stunning interior and art. Well designed with spacious rooms and lots of natural light. Great selection of permanent exhibits. Loved the Egypt section which also states that the only reason they hold the pieces is because it’s a gift from Egypt (not stolen). The collection of Monet, Degas and Van Gogh were amazing. Definitely need a couple of days to experience it in its entirety. Otherwise just pick the sections you’re interested in and make a map so it’s easier for you to get around!

Konamaneti Sreenivasa Reddy.

A huge collection of exhibits. Huge galleries, spectacular halls, different sections for different cultures, regions and religions. A child who don't have exposure to the outside world also can see what he might be studying in his Social science and more meaningful to the ones who knows the other parts of the world. Take sufficient time to see all exhibits. Nice staff. Centrally located. Once the visit is over, sir on the steps of the main entrance, watch the people of the entire world. The grandeur of the main entrance, Central Hall, great architecture in stone, that shows the glorious past. Don't miss it. If you didn't see it full, next time take time to see at leisure.

Alan Robertson

Words can't describe how amazing The Met is. Thousands of years of history that, no matter how many times you've seen in books or television, is absolutely overwhelming in the best ways possible. I was lucky enough to visit while the exhibit featuring Maximillion I, The Last Knight, was on display. Absolutely stunning. Bring your kids here.

L. Josephine Bach

This place is fantastic. A couple tips: only bring water, wear a small bag on your front or side it at all, and jump on a free tour. Students and residents of New York can pay any price they want, but if you are able to afford it, consider paying full price. It will give you three day access to the three museums: The Met, the Cloisters and the Breuer. If you're able to come back, break your visit into multiple focuses so that you can enjoy and appreciate whatever your fancy is, rather than trying to rush through the whole museum. On the other hand, that's where the tours come in nicely, because you can visit all the highlights and ask some questions if you don't have time to see everything. Also, please don't touch or stroke anything.

Dreamvillegirl11

I went here with a friend for my Art History Assignment. Really cool exhibits and friendly staff. My favorite part was definitely the Egyptian Exibit it feels like your in Egypt ! All the sculptures and artifacts look real. Definitely Worth the visit.

Efrain Suarez II

So much to see and learn. Some of my favorite exhibits are here. Great place to go and get lost. A great time with a date. But the absolute best part of the Met, and it's a separate location, is the Cloisters. Hands down the best part especially if you're into the medieval era if history.

Mike Kenyon

Many museums will let you see choice artifacts from around the world. The Met does that, but where possible preserves history in it's entirety ... Whole temples, the lobby of a French museum, a Frank Lloyd Wright living room. The roof of an entire house in New Guinea

Marco Flores

This is a fantastic museum to appreciate modern, romantic, medieval art and more. Located at Central Park you can enjoy many options for lunch time. The store is nice too, you can find beautiful pictures and publications. You need time for visiting the museum. It's a must if you visit New York.

Jay Nasram

One of the best museums I’ve been to. There so much to see I do t think you can see and appreciate all there is in one visit. The Egyptian section is breathtaking, my favorite was the armor part where incredible examples of real used items were on display. Paintings by some of the worlds best knows artists are on display, just amazing. There’s so much variety here I feel that every visit you see something you didn’t notice the time before. Might not be appreciated as much for young kids but my teenage daughters enjoyed it throughly. I highly recommend going I can’t wait for our next trip to NYC so I can go back and be amazed once again.

Kishan N

• The museum has many sections and would require a whole day to explore completely. As a suggestion, if you have a short span of time it is better to choose a specific section and explore that completely rather than meandering throughout the museum. •The museum is close to Central Park and the bus lines are accessible right outside the main entrance.

Carl Kaffeman

Although it was a crowded Saturday the experience was 5 Stars in every aspect. Native American Art, "Camp" at the Fashion Institute and Play It Loud historically significant instruments from Rock n Roll. Fantastic vintage film clips and current commentary from Rock legends. Very knowledgeable staff made it very easy to navigate the many exhibition halls. A very worthwhile 6 hours. Can't wait to visit again.

Fabio D'Ambrosio

A bit chaotic. What the museum has is fascinating. But not very organized in there where you buy tickets or get help. I know a ton of people come in and come out. But customer service can be better. And they can also improve audio or just more friendly experience for foreigners.

The Met is always a favorite of mine to visit when I'm in New York. It's always really cool seeing their special exhibits and this year's theme was Camp. The display was in and of itself a camp exhibit with super cool fashion on display. It was fast moving, albeit a little crowded on the last week of display for the year. It's always great seeing current exhibits and comparing what you saw celebrities wearing at the Met gala. Looking forward to going again next year!

Lavette Leonard

I was just in awe the whole time! I did a tour with Oasis had Albert as a tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and I can't wait to go back to do the other tours!

Jill Harwell

Our favorite room, the armor room, never disappoints! But there is always a lot to see and exhibits change every visit. Highly recommend this dose of culture. Don’t miss the Vermeers, the impressionists, the armor room, the tomb... there is so much to list. Really, you can’t go wrong here!

S M

I love this place!! You must go, bring a date or just for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Be mindful of the over eager security who may annoy you with random things. But, still this is one of the best museums in NYC, in my opinion.

Beata Karamchedu

Great no other words to describe it. One day is not enough to see it all. Had a wonderful time.

Mr Phil

I've been to many museums in my 60 years, in many places around the globe. There is none better than the Met. I absolutely love the place, and could easily and happily spend several months exploring all there is to see there. Gift shop items are a bit over-priced, but that's not what I'm there for. (I did pick up something for my Pop there, 48 years ago - and he still has it on his desk to this day! He's 90 now, so I guess if there's a value on longevity of a gift, the prices are really quite reasonable.)

John Gibbs

We visit the museum everytime we travel to NYC and it is always wonderful. We use a tour called Museum Hack that takes you on a fast paced, intensive tour. You go flying through the museum. But, it is the best we to get a grasp on how huge this museum really is and all they have on display.

Javohn Moultrie

Most know this place for its exquisite art, but not many know this place is host to some very spectacular private events. As a caterer, it's so great to bring smiles to my guest as the Art keeps me smiling more!! The culture, the cleanliness, the staff, it all gives you an experience you'll never want to forget.

William F

Great cultural experience and travel through history. So many different exhibits it will probably take at least 2 weeks to see and enjoy everything in its entirety! Hint for New York State I.D. holders pay what you wish to enter/ this DOES NOT include price for special exhibits or gift items/ ONLY FOR general admission!

Anastasiya Kalinkina

This place is an amzing source for people who like art, includes amazing original pieces for you to see and history that has lived over centuries. This place is amazing! Check out their "The last Knight" exhibit.♥️♥️

Svetoslav Georgiev

Excellent facilities and very helpful staff. It's a bit of a maze even with a map. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and plan what you want to see. There is a free cloakroom if you want to leave your bags/coats.

Jessica P

The museum is the only reason I miss New York city. It's best museum and I have always found myself at peace here. Surrounded by masters and some of the most beautiful and interesting art you can find in the US

A Plus Recommends

Does The Met really need a review? If you don't understand how iconic this place is, just know you will need several visits to take it all in. It is best to map out what you want to see on each visit and focus there. This year, I thoroughly enjoyed the CAMP exhibition and the history of Rock and Roll. If you're a tourist, you'll find tour way there to get the fountain images or eat from the vendors on the steps before or after going inside. If you're a local or native, this gem in your backyard should not be missed. It's amazing and adds so much valuable to your personal edification that annual visits, at the very least, should be a must. I won't tell you how much to donate but you are sure to get more than your money's worth every time.

Brandon Grayson

If you visit New York City and value art, culture, or history at all, this is a place you must visit. You could spend literal days wandering through it's many halls and still not see everything. It has everything from paintings to sculptures, ranging from contemporary pieces to pieces that are thousands (!) of years old from civilizations like Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece. It's one of the best ways to spend your time in New York City.

Amber Molina

Beautiful collection. Wonderful History. Amazing artifacts. You will need a few visits to sew most. I doubt we could have seen it all in the three day pass.

Dona G

This museum has the largest art exhibit I've seen so far. What I appreciate is that they have large collections of different artifacts (paintings, clothing, weapons, statues) across different time periods and geographic areas. Their Camp exhibit was especially wonderful - it has a room full of different rooms with very flamboyant clothing. My most favorite exhibit was the East Asian one - the artifacts are astounding.

Marcelo Romero

New Yorkers get special discounts. Show your NY driver's license and 1 buck will get you in. It's a nice gift to New Yorkers on tight budgets. Best times to go are right when they open and 60 minutes before closing. It can get very crowded at other times.

Nick

It's almost overwhelming the amount of priceless pieces of art they have hear to enjoy. I could spend a week marveling at beauty. If you have time and want a trip down renaissance lane. Must go!

Brayden Mora

The line to gain access into the museum at 9:30 am wrapped around the building and all the way bs k to Madison Ave. However once the museum began to open it’s doors, the line moved swiftly. We were in the lobby and able to purchase our $25 tickets very quickly at one of the many kiosk ticket machines. The line inside was long and slower for those that had to pick up their prepaid tickets, do I would not recommend doing that. Swarms of people politely moved about the exhibits but we still had a very comfortable experience. We started st the top and worked our way down. There was so much to see, so use the provided map and plan on a full day, eating lunch there. You could really spend several days in the museum there is so much to see.

Kevin Zhou

This is my favorite museum, and for good reason. They have countless exhibits- all on different locations, time periods, and styles, so you’re sure to find something you enjoy. The experience is enthralling and you will be captivated by the art. If you live close by, make sure to visit it frequently- the exhibits change often and you’ll never fail to find a new exhibit you haven’t seen before.

s s

Nice place with so much to see and learn. It will take few visits to see everything properly. Also the rooftop bar and lounge has a beautiful view of Central Park.

David Kraft

Lots of wonderful pieces of art. However they could use an app to plan your day there. We probably walked back and forth 3 or 4 times across the whole building looking for specific exhibits. If you can I suggest trying to plan your route through the museum before you start.

Mahima Srivastava

Always enjoy coming to the MET. Went back today to see two special exhibits for rock music and CAMP for fashion. Brilliant displays. Was lucky to see Prince's guitar and Beatles drums in addition to Lady Gaga's piano and many more famous rock and music stars from past and now. We saw some modern US art paintings and European impressionist paintings too. Had an amazing time. Entry fee for NY residents is pay as you wish and for out of state is $25.

Blaise Myers

This place is doubtless one of the most pleasant place to eat in the area. Always when I come to this place I am truly satisfied. They always keep their high standard service and the highest level of food they offer. You no doubt will love this restaurant. Warmly recommended.

Brian Schwer

The MET is one of the finest museums in the world. Their collection has some of the greatest works of artwork from all over the world throughout history. If you live in NY they offer pay as you wish. There is many special events throughout the year. Their staff has amazing service and knowledge and offers help with any questions. On Friday and Saturday evenings they are open later and have drinks with live music on the second level balcony. I have lost count of how many times that I've spent the day taking in the beauty of all the artwork. I love going to the rooftop in the summer to see the art installations and the great view of NYC. They also offer a snack bar on the rooftop. There is a cafeteria but I haven't eaten at it in years. So I am not sure how good the food is. The front steps are a great place to sit, talk, eat, people watch and relax. The water fountains in the front are very fun to watch and can be enjoyed for free by everyone.

Hazar Belet

The met. Number of historical items is incredible. You can easly smell the history. You should stay at least 6 hours for this place. Even if you are fast.

Emma Sipple

So much to see at this museum. The floor plan isn't very clear even with a map. You can get past that for the stunning paintings and sculptures tho.

Amanda Anderson

Mind blowing amount of things to look at. Would recommend a couple of days to do it properly. Your ticket gives you access for a few days. Food very expensive in museum. You can leave and the go back in.

Lillian Wang

Beautifully well kept museum with a variety of exhibits and pieces. The areas are very clean and polished. The staff are also very helpful and attentive. This place is a MUST for those who love art, history, and have an appreciation for cultures. Currently, the CAMP and ROCK N ROLL exhibits are showing, they are very vibrant and cool. Check them out if you can!

Sveta A

The Met is one of my favorite museums in the city. It’s huge and there are so many different exhibitions - from ancient Romanian and religious exhibits to modern photography and sculptures. There are always some special exhibitions and anybody will find something to their liking and interests. The cafe upstairs with the rooftop have a beautiful view of the Central Park and midtown. I definitely recommend visiting this museum.

Bruce Levin

What can be said about this place that hasn't already been said! Surely, one of the world's greatest repositories of art and culture. It is an essential destination for any visitor to New York but for locals, membership affords us the opportunity to meander and explore new parts of the museum without the pressure of trying to do it all or just hitting the highlights on each visit. I continue to find niches of the museum that are new to me. It is an extraordinary place!

Leticia Williams

I got the chance to visit this prestigious museum in the world with my friends. Unbeatable accommodation was given to us. Staff were so approachable especially with questions about history and lessons. Wonderful food, well-lighted, shiny floors made my experience a fantastic one! Looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended!

池端大輔

This is one of the best museums in the world. Very huge museum, so I recommend you to visit at least 3 days to enjoy(see) all sections. If you are interested in art, you have to take 1 week for enjoying this museum. My favorite is Egyptian area. A big structure which is made of stone welcomes you. And swords, shields, and armors in medieval times are very gorgeous and stylish! This museum have some restaurant(cafeteria), so you can spend all day in this museum!

Simon Gruzmark

An awesome all around place. If you love art you must visit and be mesmerized by the world class collections

Mario Scott

The MET Museum always have great exhibits that are thought provoking and inclusive. You will get to experience art and artifacts from all over the world. Be sure to plan to spend about 3-4 hours here if you plan on viewing all of the exhibits. The gift shop has great postcards and souvenir gifts that are aligned with current and past exhibits. It could use more bathrooms being that it so huge so try using it before you start your tour.

Brian

Awesome museum! Probably the best in the world. Great asset for NY, NJ, CT residents as they are allowed in free or a small donation. It’s clean and there are ample places to sit and rest your feet. I would advise to pack a small lunch, 1. because you can easily spend an entire day there 2 the cafeteria is insanely expensive eg my lunch there consisted of chicken, rice and green beans and coffee $30 All in all it’s a great museum - be ready to step back in time!

C G

Been many times over my life and always find new things that amaze me every time, even if exhibits don’t change. Sad to see it’s a mandatory admission fee of $25.00 for out of state guests now, used to be suggested admission back in the day but still an insanely impressive museum. I feel like a kid in a candy shop every time I go.

Shayna Singh

It’s just a wonderful museum to explore . As they’re different types and eras of artwork to observe. The staff were very nice and helpful especially when it came to directions as this museum is massively huge. The galleries/sections were very clean, well organized and presented. I’m glad to say that I will be coming back to visit and explore more of the beautiful artworks they have on display to the public.

Jasmine Torres

The museum is huge and filled with just the most amazing and gorgeous statues Ive ever seen. The check-in process was a breeze. I would recommend going a little bit early, since it definetly gets crowded during the early to mid afternoon.

Alma Otaño

Didn’t go in this time, but we decided to check it out because we heard about prices changing. The museum runs free for NY residents (valid id) and students. They ware the encouraged to make donations but are not required to pay. If you are not a NY resident with valid id, the fee is 25$. Definitely going soon.

Recommended go with guide. Wonderful place. Very valuable art work. Rembrandt, Rubens, Mone and other famous artists.

Chris Foster

Absolutely loved it. Great assortment of history from all time periods. Very clean and well maintained. Don't eat in their cafeteria if you can avoid it, absolutely crazy over priced even for NYC tourist area. Huge history lover and had …

David Mullins

Prepare to spend some time there. It is so big and there is so much to see, I dont think you could see it all in 3 days! I love this place! I'll be back! I love New York City!

Yosie Saint-Cyr

Amazing place! Great art and history! Make sure this is all you do in a day with a walk in Central Park.. the best!

Adam Cohen

The exhibits are great and everything is well maintained. If you are from NYC just show your ID and you can pay whatever you want. One important note for parents. They will not let you walk around with your child on your shoulders. It's a liability thing. I love this place and try to take the kids there often.

Yolanda Haggerty

Is there any better traditional art museum. I don't think so. There is an upcharge for a listening devise, but totally worth it. You can listen and pretend a piece is yours. The gift shop is worth a look. Food is always good at many price points

C172Pilotdude

The MET is one of my favorite places to visit in NYC and will continue to be on my top 10 list of places to visit in our city. It is difficult to say which is my favorite exhibit but if it is not the artifacts of Egypt it would most definitely be the Arms and Armor section of the facility. It is a place of beauty and I hope to see this museum continue to educate, entertain and flourish for many decades to come. If you travel to NYC and haven't been to the MET you are doing yourself a disservice. Recommended

Michael Tampakakis

Unbelievable experience! You need at least 3 days in order to see everything in that museum! The Greek,Roman and the Egyptian sectors are amazing! The have a real Egyptian temple and A LOT OF MUMMIES! Don't miss the chance!

soriah V

Ive never seen such a grand building in the United States outside of Europe! Such a lovely facade and of course sitting on the steps like in gossip girl is a must.

Anne Fernandena

A great place to roam around for hours. Make sure to pick up your free audio guide. I am having the best experience withthe added information and stories it provides. My one ticket gives me access to 3 museums in total. A City Pass NY is a must have.

Chia Yin Jenny Liu

The museum is very big and there are lots of things you can see inside. If you were very interested in History and Culture, one day is definitely not enough for you. I spent like 4 hours in there and my legs were already tired. Good thing that they have many chairs inside for people to rest.

Matt Chapman

Few collections compare to the MET. Historical, contemporary, and everything in between. You can easily spend a full day wandering the galleries and finding endless inspiration. The rooftop installations are always so on point.

Aron Reyder

One of the places to visit while in New York, there is no place like it. This museum has an extensive collection of artifacts from multiple eras and takes forever to walk through but it is worth it. Photography is allowed. Food and drinks are not. There is security by the entrance. Even though the lines might be big, they move quickly.

Pooja Prem Kumar

No wonder it’s a world famous museum that everybody wants to see. So interesting and such a great collection. The staff/ security are wonderful. Loved it and would love to go back next time I’m in NYC.

Joe Ditmanson

How do you give it anything less than 5 stars? It's a landmark and while I would have just looked via a harbor cruise, it was cool to go up close. They do have lots of shaded areas, grass areas, etc. Didn't try any good but they had a lot of places to eat. The front of the statue is where they do group pics for you and the family. Those folks were very nice even though it was hot and humid.

William Hyer

This museum will wow you. Come early and spend a considerable amount of time to take in all the exhibits. Ask a docent if you have questions. It is an enviable education and privelege to see what much of the world cannot except via the Internet. That is not the same as being here. Prepare to be amazed. I was and still am intrigued with every visit since I was a child.

V K

For the New World, the collection is outstanding. It’s like a theme park for adults who love art and history. The collection is diverse - paintings, sculptures, furniture, etc. There’s even an entire Egyptian temple. You will need one full exhausting day to absorb it all. It’s a shame that the supposed liberal city discriminates agains its tourists in the ticket pricing structure, as if tourists are not already contributing to the economy of the city.

Elena Soroka

The 3 stars are given not for the art - that is 5 stars, but for the change in ticket prices and several of the staff were regularly rude. 1.one staffer talked to me in Spanish about putting on a sticker from the tickets on my clothing. I was doing that, and told him that I did not understand Spanish (great language, but still I was speaking English in the US!) and he continued to speak Spanish to me. 2. We had a backpack with us, that was not commented upon at the entrance. Suddenly in one of the rooms, a staffer made us wear the backpack on the chest. Many others staffers did not react to the backpack on the back. 3 after eating (not dining) at the cafeteria we had bottles of sodas in our hands. One of the staffers made us go back to drink it up in the cafeteria. On the way back, another staffer stopped us again and said that we had to put it in our backpack. - the non-consistency was very confusing.

Agustin Ignacio Rossi

The best museum in all NYC, a lot of exhibitions every time and one day is not going to be enough to have a view of each of these ones. My recommendation is to take at least 2 days to visit all the museum but without walking a lot, the best you can do is to enjoy each of the exhibitions. Relax and enjoy!!

Charlie Allison

Best museum I've ever been to! Incredible and varied exhibitions with lots of information. Incredible mix of the old and new as well - kudos to the curator. Especially good if you're into Chinese/Japanese/Korean art and Classical and Neoclassical sculptures. Give a good 6-8 hours to see everything in the museum. I recommend breaking your visits up over 3 days as the ticket allows as many entries as one wants over that time.

Rachel Morse

Absolutely stunning museum! We loved the visit. So many paintings by famous painters. We happened to go when there were over 15 Vincent Van Goghs at once which is quite rare for my understanding. My granddaughter absolutely loved her visit there! I'm sure we'll be back!

Matthew Lubbers

I mean... It's the MET. Their displays are expansive. If you want to see the whole museum, set aside at least a day. We went with the mission of finding a friend's family collection only to find out that there was a temporary exhibit in their gallery and the pieces that should have been there hadn't been in place for a while due to temporary exhibits. In addition, having an app would be very useful to help navigate. I see there used to be one, but it appears to have been removed.

Venanta Silickaite

One of the best museums in the world. Highly recommend for art and history lovers alike. Unlike some of the other museums in the city, The Met houses every style of art one would want to see, from modern to renaissance art to impressionist etc. Its become a weekly escape from the busy city situated perfectly in Central Park. Only other that compares is the Vatican Museum. Both an absolute must see!

Jorge Ottiz

The first time I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art I was about 12 years old, it opened my eyes to a new world this young kid walking to this amazing Masterpiece it's in my city that I love so much this Museum. I give thanks to this museum for opening my eyes always asking the question what if. This museum has opened my eyes and has made me an autodidact constantly learning learning. I will always support this Museum it was my playground when I was a kid. And I am grateful. I have an old chair that I would like to give to the museum but I can't seem to get anybody that's interested is about 165 years old American Gothic. Is done in the Victorian. So if any of you wish I will be more than happy to donate it when I pass away kind of my way of saying thank you to this diamond that I have in my city. So yes I am a member and I will always support this Museum. So thank you all for adding to my mind more knowledge.

Sara Boyer

Very iconic museum. This place is stunning and holds an impressive amount of art and history. Be advised though that this museum is massive and you may not get to see everything. Block out a good chunk of time to visit. I highly recommend the egypt collection and the dutch masters! If you are a New York or New Jersey resident, you may pay what you feel is fair, for everyone else, it is $25.

Gio ThePatriot

There is so much to learn about it would take weeks to really see everything. It's also easy to move around with a disabled family member on a wheelchair and if you don't have one they will provide one for you. Also there is a cafeteria inside the building.

Madeleine Thier

I'm at the rooftop sculpture garden at the Met. Have been a member since 1983.. love it. Always preview newest exhibits. Always learn something new.

anuradha ayyar

For any art aficionado or even a novice, this is an ideal place to soak in some spectacular art and work if sheer genius. Take your own sweet time if you truly wish to experience this. And yes wear comfortable shoes!

Ella Xu

Amazing quality! Includes everything one could possibly look for in a museum. My personal favorite exhibit was the history of music? I believe it was called. They had many artifacts that are worth so much more than just looks. It helps me appreciate how far we have come just to reach the wonderful beauty of music we have today!

Isabella DeVito

The place is huge! It is amazing and entirely worth visiting! Make sure you save enough time for it though because you could easily spend 4-5 hours in there and still not see everything. There is always something new to see with the exhibits too! I've only been to one location but it is great!

olushola esther osinubi

If you're culturally inclined, prepare to be blown away! I so loved the Egyptian exhibits and the rooftop view over central park was '- exquisite. You may not be able to do it all in a day. But however you choose to explore and you ever with, one thing is certain, the MET definitely is worth visiting.

Massbaum

I’ve been visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art literally for most of my life.. My great grandmother was a founder and served on the original board of this beautiful museum.. There is so much history here and I have nothing but good things to say about the Met.. They have a donation (pay what you can) policy for NY residents so it’s a wonderful activity for locals when traveling into the city with a family.. The building is simply breathtaking, it’s history and architecture are totally captivating in and of themselves.. Their permanent collection is just full of amazing pieces of art.. My children loved the roof garden and the Last Knight exhibit.. We spent an entire day at the museum and never got bored or ran out of cool things to take in.. In fact we were rushing around trying to fit everything in.. Honestly we could spend an entire week exploring the many collections and exhibits, in fact we’ve already planned our return trip!! The staff is generally helpful and friendly, ready to answer your questions and guide you along.. There are Cafe and luncheonette options if you’re hungry.. The bathrooms are super clean and well maintained.. This museum is truly one of gems in this town and well worth the visit.. If you’re coming to the city from out of town, the Met is an absolute must see, and definitely one of NYC’s most important landmarks.. And if you’re a New Yorker looking for something fun to do in the city the Met is the perfect location for an enriching cultural experience!!

Eric Ng

The largest museum that I've ever been to! After about 15 minutes of walking around, I knew I needed a map to navigate. The most famous pieces is the self portrait of Van Gogh and Washington Crossing The Delaware. By all means, try to locate these pieces and see these paintings when you have a chance to visit!

Woubakal Tesfaye

That was one of the best museum experience. We had only few hours till our bus leave so my brother and I was rushing through everything. We took our time at the Egypt section. That was just amazing

Joey Gibson

This place is HUGE. There is no way to see everything in one visit. My favorites were the Egyptian artifacts - be sure to read the history on how the Temple of Dendur ended up in NYC. The Period Rooms were also cool. These are fully furnished rooms from various places/times throughout history.
