REVIEWS OF The Met Cloisters IN New York

David Kach

Unique and well-organized collection of Medieval art located at the center of one of NYC's most beautiful river parks.

Maria Caicedo

It begins with the hike up to the Cloisters here. Definitely enjoy the walk up as you overlook the Hudson River. The entrance is donation based and once inside, there's plenty to see. I loved the gardens more than the art. And as we sat and enjoyed a sip of coffee on a sunny afternoon, we hung out with the birds and wondered about the construction, and the river, and the old trees that can be seen all around.

Kyle Jensen

A stunningly beautiful and haunting addition to the Met family of museums. You can walk through actual medieval architecture from Europe. These are not recreations. The artifacts are also mesmerizing. Of particular interest are the unicorn tapestries. Go. Go. Go.

Iskra Corvino

One of the most unusual and european like vibe places in NYC. Beautiful gardens within 4 sided porticos. In the heart of a quiet park overlooking the Hudson from a hill, it's a great way to spend your afternoon.

Jingli T

Such a lovely place to spend half of a day. Go when the weather is good because there are three outdoor gardens and plenty outdoor sitting areas just take in the great atmosphere.

Cynthia LeBaron

The structure and grounds were amazing. I wish we had taken the tour. The guide we heard briefly seemed very informative and interesting.

Lyle Anderson

This museum is really nice with beautiful medieval art. Fort Tryon park where it is located also nice with some great views of the river.

Byron Nelson

A special place displaying medieval art and fixtures from old religious places in Europe. They have a major collection of art and items there, well presented. I expected it to be great and it exceeded my expectations.

LP

Nice place out of the city to have a walk and visit the nice gardens. Transports are a bit hard to find and connect to manhattan. Hopefully got a nice driver that helped us.

Stephanie Oppenheim

Peaceful spot seemingly a part of Manhattan that's a world apart

Hector Rivera

It amazes me that in the heart of Inwood, with all the sounds one has learned to expect in this Northern Manhattan neighborhood, is The Met Cloisters. A true sanctuary, standing tall and majestic, with trees encircling it like a fort and adjacent to it the Henry Hudson River. One can see the New Jersey Palisades across the river, protecting The Cloisters from the west.

Parveen Sikand

I can't believe that this was my first ever visit ~ what a gem of a museum! Unmissable!

SK H

Beautiful architecture and art work! Peaceful and calming. Love the outdoor spaces.

Stevie Lynn

One of my favorite museums in the city; it's always well worth the subway ride. The walk up to the museum has wonderful views of the Hudson that make the steep climb easier. Inside had plenty of spots to sit and rest while approaching the art and architecture everywhere you look. The gardens and courtyards are some of the best outdoor spaces in Manhattan.

Katie B

This place is a dream and well worth the journey north. I'd suggest going first thing in the morning to avoid the inevitable crowds and tour buses. There's a great mix of types of art (tapestries, sculpture, furniture, paintings, etc). The gardens are also beautiful. Be sure to set aside some time to wander through the park; it doesn't feel like you're in the city at all. Also, your ticket to the Cloisters will get you in to the Met and the Breuer.

Dr.Daniel Lamontagne

Very nice historic and arts. Get your culture in.

Mariana Terán

It's a beautiful museum, but very expensive. It would be great if there was a pay what you want day.

john withers

Wonderful exhibition of 11-13 century art which is situated in the lovely Ft. Tryon Park.

Ronnie Young

This castle replica has to be experienced to be believed. I would suggest it as a good place to take your children,or to take wedding photos.

Amalia Anderson

Such a special + beautiful museum, quite unique in that it is actually made up of parts of original cloisters/churches from France, Spain, Italy. Has my favorite piece, the Merode Altarpiece-- can stand looking at it for hours

Nicholas Krus

The museum is a little small, but it is such a beautiful park and the views and amazing

jesus tiburcio

Great place to look around! A long walk to get there but was worth it. Has an amazing gothic Romanesque structure. Stunning over all. Would recommend!

Ismael Cuadrado

The architecture was grand. The art was spectacular and the area setting magnificent.

Paul Kervin

A Must-See. The botanical presentation made it special for me. We also had a great lunch in a nearby restaurant afterwards.

Kristina Johnson

Amazing and beautiful, but take the bus. If you take the subway you will have to walk up the most unbelievable hill, I'd say it's the Everest of NYC. Also if you are going to brave the climb (and don't forget your hiking gear) DO NOT do it in summer. We went on 4th of July this year (a super hot day) and I almost collapsed of heat stroke and tumbled down the hundreds of stone stairs you must climb to get to the place. But once you're up there (if you're still ambulatory) it is WONDERFUL!

Marc Cleveland

Honestly one of the most beautiful places I have seen! This place holds so many beautiful relics that probably helped shape how we view christianity as a whole! Honestly glad I got the opportunity to go here and experience this history. Anyone visiting new York, come here it is worst the walk!

David Luftig

Always wonderful. Amazing art , amazing building. Lovely gardens, herbal and flowers. Wonderful vistas of the Hudson River. Easy to get to by subway. (Either A train - then steep walk up, or Broadway train 5 block walk.

Kyuwon Lee

I had been told only good things about this place by people who've been there before. I just had a chance to explore the Cloisters myself and now see the reason why. The museum, the park surrounding it and the river to the west are not simply beautiful but utterly serene and nostalgic. What a cherishable gift for New Yorkers left by those who came earlier.

Craig Middleton

An astonishing display of mediaeval art and architecture. Well beyond what I'd expected.

Maxx Ammo

Amazing collection. A must see!

Jack PIE

Beautiful place I loved the atmosphere and the artwork. The view is wonderful. The cafe is horribly expensive, I would never eat there.

Jessica McCloskey

Really cool building, inside and out. Unique experience for NYC. Many of the exhibits are religious. Tickets are 25 for an adult and can be used at the other Met locations for 3 days.

Odin Fuhrman

Go early as it gets crowded in the afternoon. Great indoor outside museum, it's small so the crowd might frustrate you. Wonderful meidieval expo in a beautifully restored monastery with amazing views of the Hudson River, GW bridge and if it is clear enough the new Tarpan Zee Bridge.

Fun Mate

I love the tranquility of this place. Nice gardens and view of the Hudson River to get away from the crowd in the city.

Patrick Durek

The closest thing to medieval Europe that can be found in America. A profound spiritual experience. (And the medieval gardens are delightful.)

Ana Aladashvili

Nice for a short museum escape. Lots of nice views and gardens.

Alexis Marie

It was beautiful! I recommend wearing comfortable shoes because you’re going to be doing a lot of walking. Also, they do not allow flash photography so make sure that you turn off flash when taking pictures.

Andrew Moore

Top shelf. Literally ... high on the hill. Beautiful collection. Go if you can on a quiet day to contemplate.

John Paul Bonaduchi

This truly is a jem hiding in NYC. The whole museum is the art work including the building itself. Full doorways from the 1100s have been built into the structure and the artwork ranges from 900 AD and beyond. The cloister area itself is a magical and tranquil place that is perfect for just going to sit and relax.

Simon Heath

What an eclectic find. Prices are well laid out, information is readily available and the walled gardens are serene and well manicured. A little haven.

sulay restrepo

One of my favorite places in the city. Take your family, your significant other or any friend. Romantic, quiet, small. It’s just perfect, the old pieces of Art! I’m obsessed with the unicorn in captivity my favorite of them all. They also have a cute garden where you can seat and eat.

Zuzu Madanat

Wonderful! Do your best to be present for the 1pm tour. Very informative!

patrick collins

I absolutely love this museum so many things to see

Zile Dzenitis

The history of how this place came to be and was built is truly amazing. Walking through the halls you get the feeling of what it was like so long ago. Don't miss the unicorn tapestries!

Will Koehrsen

A mid-sized art museum with Medieval works in a reconstructed castle. While not as grand as the Met Fifth Avenue, this location still has incredible works of art. If you have the extra time, it's worth the subway trip from midtown. A ticket to the Met Fifth Avenue is good here so try to make it if you can! The surrounding park is also a nice place to go for a walk and is generally nowhere near as crowded as the rest of Manhattan.

Anna S

My favorite museum. The scoulptures are stunning and the whole building is like work of art. The Cloisters is located in a beautiful park that can be a part of attraction. Today it was my third time visiting and I always discover something new :)

Nyx Ebana

So rich in history! Its huge, couldn't finish seeing everything. The pieces are insane. It's free of charge. Totally recommend it.

Alfred Spector

A spectacular museum and setting for medieval art and sculpture. One forgets one is in Manhattan. A particular highlight was the gallery tour/lecture, "A Very Short Introduction to Medieval History," given by Professor Lauren Mancia. She is one of the most knowledgeable speakers and clearest presenters of information that I've ever encountered.

LaRissa You

The Met's uptown treasure. Collection of religious & medieval art is great. Able to see the art up close. Recommend visiting on an early Sunday morning.

Shota Inoue

One of the annex of Metropolitan Museum specialized into middle ages religious arts and crafts. The building itself is also historical croisters moved from France which is composed by several churches. You can enter if you have valid pass for Metropolitan Museum (main building).

Shao Ni

It’s a tranquil and beautifully atmospheric museum to immerse yourself in medieval art and culture. The park surrounding is also worth a visit!

Katie Quintero

Visited two years in a row. Definitely a must see while in NYC!

Ariana Ledesma

This is a place you wanna come with everyone! By far my favourite view spot. Not only on the inside with the beautiful architecture but the outside doesn't even looks like NYC but a dreamy forest. Every garden and balcony it's a joy by itself! And after the visit you can enjoy a medieval festival with dresses and armors and beers with meats! Something different but magical! Entrance: 25$ Adults Students: Pay what you want.

DAK K

Gorgeous, informative...well worth visit and small enough museum to fully navigate without exhaustion.

Astrid Oechtering

Beautiful Oasis in the north of Manhattan. Great art pieces combined with an old Cloister, originally rebuilt with gardens and views. It seems as it has always been there.

Lucais Horsley

What a treasure this is! The tranquil setting is beautiful and perfect for this museum of religious artifacts from medieval times. To think that the collection came from Europe piece by piece is mind boggling. There is a little of everything, from tapestries, to paintings, to jewelry, to furniture, and more. There are a lot of steps, but the staff will offer the use of an elevator and/or wheelchair to those with mobility issues. It is well worth a visit.

Benoît ROUSSEAU

One of my favorite place in New York! The park is very nice for pick nick and the museum is wonderful !

Anthony Abbate

Very interesting medieval museum with excellent views of the Hudson and wonderful (small) gardens

Elliot Franco

Not to be missed! Great museum featuring medieval arts. The MET Cloisters is quiet and feels like many European castles. The countryside is beautiful. It was an absolute museum. I will be returning again.

Traveler Bill

This outpost of the Metropolitan Museum of Art offers wonderful exhibits of medieval art. The majority of the buildings themselves are made from reconstructed parts of churches, monasteries, and cloisters relocated to there from Europe. The room featuring the unicorn tapestries is a must-see. Take the A subway train to 190th Street station, the M4 bus, or park in one of the free adjacent parking lots. Also take the time to wander through the rest of Fort Tryon Park where the museum is located. Most seasons the flowers in the Heather Garden on the south side of the park near the subway station are beautiful.

Adam Zonis

Fantastic spot to admire medieval art and artifacts.

Alyson Feiser

Beautiful museum and grounds. Perfect for a day with a friend or a date.

Sophia Grant

Such a beautiful, serene place. Beautiful artifacts on display, statues, and stained glass windows. Like being inside a castle.

Amy Brewer-Davenport

We decided to visit here because the Met entrance stickers are good for three days at all of their museums and we thought we'd try this out. A quick ride on the express A train got us most of the way there and wow were we surprised. The quietest place we'd been in New York and a welcome repreve after a few loud days. There's nifty religious bits, but the courtyard was the best part. We say and watched snow melt off the roof from the warmth inside with plants and sunshine for probably two hours. Absolutely b beautiful.

Nabilla S

I’m glad we made the effort to get to this place and I appreciate the Met ticket allows entrance to all 3 Mets including this little gem. Totally in love with all the gardens especially the medieval herbal garden. If you are a student of or just an avid herbal medicine fan this is one garden you won’t want to miss

Chuck GREEN

It is good place to visit and huge park with nice trees and small garden inside the cloisters, very well maintained. Once you are there you dont feel that you are in the city

S Ramesh

Unicorn tapestries and medieval sculptures and gardens. Nice place to spend a few hours

Madeline Pan

Awesome medieval architecture, sculpture and tapestries in a serene, tranquil environment, dating back to the 12th century.

Colleen Dunlea

We were walking around in Fort Tryon park and decided to go into the MET Cloisters. (It is free for Columbia students!!) We had perfect timing to get on the garden tour. We learned so much about ancient herbal medicines and the uses of all the plants and herbs in the cloister gardens. Really cool architecture, medieval art, and a great tour.

David A Castro

Off the "beaten path" and beautiful. Post the inside would not do it justice, and if you go, the Court Yards have the statutes and artwork set in the walls and archways. Worth the hidden treasures. Do not forget the Terrace. GW and Jersey views.

Daniel Rodriguez

Wonderful Museum at the northern end of Manhattens west side; it is part of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Its medieval collection is the best in the world. The unicorn tapestries are beautiful. The collections are housed in a monastery which was imported brick by brick from France and rebuilt in Fort Tryon Park. The museum spaces lend a wonderful solemnity to the many Religious artifacts in the museum. My own favorite piece is the monkey cap vase; this vase gave life to the popular childrens book " Caps for Sale". The park surrounding the Cloister Museum affords ample space for family picnics, space for kids of all ages to run around, and magnificent views of the Hudson River. Even if you forego visiting the museum, which would be a major loss, Fort Tryon park is worth a visit.

Ivette IbarraSmith

I love it. Its so peaceful and medieval

Amy Jongeling

Who doesn't love the cloisters? It is one of my places of refuge when life overwhelms.

Jennifer Gelman

We took the subway and walked through a lovely park to get there. The four cloisters themselves are lovely, some of them with gardens. There's a beautiful view of the river from one of the cloisters. I also enjoyed the tapestries, art, and architectural details from various monasteries. Definitely worth a trip. It's included with your Metropolitan Museum of Art ticket, so why not?!

Luay Alyass

Small, yet a museum full of history and interesting information. I highly recommend doing the tour about history of the museum. The person who was doing it was funny and made it interesting. Really loved the place, you should check it out. Plus!!! It is free for New York residents!!

East Coast Kink

My partner and I had a lovely visit. So much to see, we will be back again soon.

Linda Rodriguez

What an extraordinary place to visit. I didn't know what to expect. As soon as you walk in the mood is set in time. The displays are not overwhelming so you get to browse at a slow pace.

Wendy Fu

Beautiful medieval art and architecture! It's a must-visit if you hit Fort Tyron Park.

mike sheehan

This place was awesome. Some of the best NYC views of the Hudson and Palisades. The museum is cool too and if you are a tri state resident then you just donate what you want for admission. Strong recommend.

Lizanne FLUXMON

Beautiful hidden treasure a must see in a disgusting neighborhood. The views are sublime ...avoid the locals. Watch your back. Hide your camera...but take awesome photos!!!

phil Weiss weiss

A great museum tucked away on a quiet hill overlooking the east river with great views. A little secret only New Yorkers know about. More than worth the trip uptown! Exhibits are often unique and are changed on a regular basis.

Selen Gürmen

Really nice place. Built just like a Europeam castle with good statues, window paintings and losts of iconas. Donation based if you have a NY id, 25 dollars for adult tourists. I felt like it was worth it.

desiree anthony

If you love medieval then you will love this museum. Its beautiful. You can be in there for four hours. Its so much to look at. The area is surrounded by a beautiful park over looking the hudson river. Its a nice date place or family. I would definitely recommend this place.

Donald Redish

On a very hot and steamy Saturday afternoon I decided to take a step back in time, and escape the heat, so naturally I went to the Cloisters. Thick stone walls protected me from the heat while sheltering the precious artifacts inside. The architecture alone should encourage a visit. The fabulous views of the Hudson should demand a visit. However the reminder of a much different era is brought home to those who dare visit the most Northern part of Manattan. The museum is small and can be easily toured in a couple of hours. The park around the Cloisters can take much longer.

Kristian Flores

Great little museum. Nice collection and the location is beautiful. cafe indoors is adequate but a short stroll gets you to the New Leaf restaurant which is really good. enjoy the views and gardens. plenty if parking usually as well.

Thanh Bui

Great place to spend an afternoon. After seeing all the great history, the gardens are a nice way to relax.

Laura G

Quite a bit of a trek to get to, but when you arrive it's completely worth it. Secluded away from the rest of the city, this unassuming branch of the Met has a lot of lovely pieces on display for any medieval enthusiast to enjoy. Definitely worth a visit if you can make the journey out to it.

Jane Morey

Absolutely gorgeous treasure of a museum, up on a lovely little hill overlooking a quieter pay off town. One of the most peaceful places I've even been to, especially after the bustle of the usual Manhattan attractions. Your Met ticket is good here too, and they give you three days to make it both and a third location. The space itself is wonderful, and the art is wonderful as well. I adored the tapestries, especially the room with a set telling the tale of a unicorn. There are some gorgeous relics and pieces of glasswork and more. Just wonderful.

Jacki Newcomb

It was nice to just get to wonder around and take in all the history art and gardens.

Kai C

Visiting The Met Cloisters is an unique experience. First, you have to hike a bit (5 mins) to get to the museum. Then you will get to the cloister which combine numerous medieval Europe work from the real cloisters with the architectures. They also got a amazing garden having cloister plants.

Artist Temple

Tranquil. It used to be a meditative quiet zone, but now has high tourist traffic.

Jun Simons

A beautiful place to spend a day. Don’t expect to come here say than a few hours and go to the rest of nyc, dedicate some more time here. The museum and nature are extremely well blended and the overall experience feels very well crafted. The art collection itself is impressive and interesting.

Marc Dallaire

It's quite a hike from downtown and the other boroughs but it's absolutely worth a visit

G P

The Cloisters museum is located on 4 acres (1.6 hectares) in Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, overlooking the Hudson River in Washington Heights. The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that was constructed out of sections of French medieval monasteries and specializes in European medieval architecture, sculpture and decorative arts, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods. It offers an extensive collection of statues, paintings, stained glass windows and tapestries. The Cloisters are a wonderful thing to see and do in NYC. It's so peaceful and serene, a great way to spend a morning or afternoon It takes about 1hr on the 104 bus from Midtown and it will drop you off by the front door or you can take the train and hike up there. Regardless of how you choose to get there, is definitely worth the visit. The most impressive piece of art that it has is the famous Unicorn Tapestries. You can also pay $7 for a audio tour device and hear more details about each section

Nabu Kharidotes

An absolute delight. Immerse yourself in the medieval world and be transported to another time and place. Ecclesiastical afficionados, art enthusiasts, and history buffs will love this place, which is set in a miniature Castle on a high hill overlooking the river. Really, this is a must see. The ladies at the desk were extremely helpful and be careful in the shop. It's loaded with amazing things that you will want to buy. Our only complaint was that most of the security guards/ docents seemed disaffected and irreverent about the illustrious beauty around them ( with the notable exception of a warm and friendly fellow with glasses who was very kind to us) The head of security ( I think that's what he was; he had a short trimmed beard and a button down shirt) was particularly rude and short to me when I asked him about an area of the gallery. He ignored me twice and then answered with an attitude and a seeming lack of knowledge which was disappointing. If you are visiting I would recommend steering clear of this fellow. He didn't seem to be happy working there, which is bizarre to me as I would consider it a dream to work in a place of such beauty. Don't let these admittedly minor concerns dissuade you from a visit, though. I guarantee you will love it.

Michael Connor

A BIT OF NEW YORK THAT IS SO NOT NYC, The Cloisters always delights and surprises. We last saw an Estonian a cappella group perform magically well in a chapel space built in Catalonia a millennium or so ago.

Mariah Mckenzie

Cool museum to check out. The architecture of the building is really neat. The surrounding park is beautiful too. I love all the little courtyards inside. A great place to see medieval art.

Nina Sackett

Fascinating museum. Beautiful outdoor experience. Try it!

Solmaz M

Very nice museum. The only thing was its location which was hard to get by public transportation. It was on top of a hill with many stairs.

Marrika Zapiler

The Cloisters are located in a part of Manhattan that feels so remote from the hustle and bustle of the city. Truly an amazing museum to visit and worth the long subway ride and walk through Fort Tryon Park!

Dennis Grishin

Beautiful castle on a hill with a great history. Cool art as a part of the Met! Come here for a nice read on a sunny day. Park around the area is also wonderful. Need to explore this area more.

MrDeadlycarrot

Good to spend a whole afternoon. The view from the park is also very nice

Brayden Mora

If you like architecture and medevial art, then this is your place. It's on the northwestern tip of the island and for $25, you can gorge yourself in both. We particularly like the gardens and tapestries that are on display. We've visited 3 times and there are many exhibits that never move, but we've been impressed with the new exhibits each time we've visited. Take the A train to one of Manhattan's best kept secrets. Beautiful tranquil park with an awe inspiring view of the Hudson river. The museum is a gem. Worth the trip.

Darkstar The Epical

The most magical place in the world. I go here every year for the annual medieval festival

Oleg A

Everything in medieaval style.. close to Manhattan.... A lot if to see and good hours retreat from noizy city..

Nusrat Shabnam Nessa

Gorgeous! The cloisters, and the outdoor view, the parks outside the museum are all a breath of fresh air, literally. The collections are awe inspiring. The scale, and the skill with which the curators created this viewing experience is amazing.

Cristiano Fisch

A medieval castle in Manhattan, that is just amazing. You can take an afternoon to visit the Cloisters, its not a huge place, so in a few hours you can see everything.

Kat

Visited today with my family with two elderly parents. The museum staff were LOVELY and so accommodating. The museum and the grounds were beautiful, the staff so friendly and helpful. It made for a perfect day trip. New York within New York. The medieval artwork and the cloister gardens were amazing. The view of the George Washington Bridge was not what I remembered from childhood but Fort Tryon Park was still very nice. All in all, a perfect day.

saul castillo

I like it its peaceful should go and vist again

Franklyn Mendez

A great peaceful and artistic museum.

Dmitry Krasnopolskiy

It's amazing wild nature place in the City! Castle must see - history soul of Europe 11-12 centure

Linda Diaz-Murphy

Had a great time today with my husband at the cloisters. We love to go every year in the fall. Had lunch outdoors and went shopping. We took many pictures. Loved it! Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. Plan to go again very soon.

Marvella Francis

This place is so amazing, its hard to believe it is located in a large metropolitan city.

Becky Doss

Amazing beautiful, right here in the USA. A lovely escape away from the noise of the city of Manhattan, a short ride down Hudson River Drive. This place is a jewel and shouldn’t be missed.

ED N.

Great place to stop. Stretch your legs, take in the view and breathe some fresh air (if there is such a thing in NYC)

Taylor Overos

Absolutely beautiful museum - the art in it was originally designed to be in an environment like this. A true historical experience with an amazing view- especially on a nice day, it’s gorgeous in the cloisters and gardens.

Cindy Current

beautiful museum. excellent collection. beautiful views of the Hudson nearby

DeAnna Gibbons

Wonderful space- have seen many great exhibitions here.

Gregory White

Very nice collection of old Christian artifacts. Lovely gardens (cloisters) and good views of the Hudson River. Nice, quiet and serene outdoor spaces. The cafe is small and doesn't have a large selection of items. The museum shop had some interesting items.

David Charcape

A nice little museum, surrounded by beautiful parks. It has several medieval religious pieces, art, and architecture. There are also some gardens within the property. For NYC residents, entrance fee is whatever you can afford.

Jen Pressley

Absolutely love the cloisters — its a terrific mini getaway from the city and rich with history. You’ll feel transported to another place and time, all nestled within a rambling park.

Vladimir Barash

One of my favorite uptown parks. Such a lovely place to get away from the rush if NYC.

Jim Sears

The chapel is an excellent setting for early music concerts. These performances require separate admission.

Christophe D

A truly wonderful gem uptown. Not overly crowded and a very beautiful museum and gardens. Fantastic collection of medieval art.

Melissa Hawtof

Take yourself back in time at this place! Interesting pieces from the Byzantine and Renaissance time periods. It’s worth the trip!

Marianne Morris

Exceptional tour guide. Well organized. Fabulous selection of artwork to see. Nice cafe but get there early. The gardens are lovely with flowers, herbs, small trees, and small birds flying overhead. Very relaxing. Stay the whole day.

Matthew Love

A really beautiful rarely visited or widely known gem, the structure was erected not nearly as long ago as one might think, 1935, but houses so much rich history of the early to mid 20th century northeastern American story. Give yourself plenty of time to wander around the gorgeous Fort Tyrone park in which this is neatly nestled.

Melissa Lamkin

Beautiful museum and grounds. I went there specifically to see the Unicorn Tapestries but the entire collection was fantastic. There was a really informative and entertaining tour of the gardens as well. Highly recommended.

William Arias

Only to go there would one understand how amazing this place is people. Cannot recommend this museum enough if you love art from the 1200's, 1300's and 1400's. It's like stepping through time and walking through a real castle. The smells and Stone and frescoes, the rugs and, well you just have to check out.......

Adam Marshall

A great museum! An excellent collection of art and architecture from the medieval period. Several chapels with original materials from Europe have been faithfully recreated to represent the Romanesque and Gothic styles. Fans of stained glass, calligraphy, tapestry, and religious art should not miss this. During the spring time, the central garden makes this a perfect place to bring a date.

Ricci Cande

If you haven't been up to the Cloisters, GO. It is well worth the trip. I went to see the other half of the Heavenly Bodies exhibit, and it was astounding. The history and architecture of the building is so rich and worth the trip. It's also a fantastic opportunity to see artwork you wouldn't see anywhere else. I know it's far but JUST GO OKAY IT'S SO WORTH IT

Steve

It was beautiful. A little small and a lot of religious art. Go on a nice day. Food and drinks are available outside.

Emma Flaherty

The space itself is beautiful and the richness of the art is absolutely incredible. The outdoor spaces were by far my favorite -- it doesn't even feel like you're in the city anymore. Can't recommend this museum enough.

D1 Music

A wonderful museum with awesome exhibitions. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Claire Heister

A must-see. Breathtaking works of art in a stunning place. Make sure to visit the herb garden, too!

Anne Fernandena

Did not expect the medieval exhibits to be as detailed and lovely as they are. Admission is expensive; friend had a discount, otherwise I probably would have passed this wonderful place up as budget-breaker. Fir us poor folk, worth making admission arrangements ahead of time and figuring out the bus transit system. #4 bus can take you right to the entrance and pick you up later. Get a transfer to other bus lines. Beautiful wooded setting next to the river, would not have imagined this was in Manhattan. Just an enchanting, wonderful small museum. A few people in oeriod costumes were roaming around. Place was crowded with visitors when I visited; friend who lives in the neighborhood told me this was unusual

Yi-Nung Yeh

It’s the place which can make me feel peaceful in New York. I would like to visit here every month if I live in New York.

Michael Weisgarber

Really awesome museum tucked away in an old monastery on the northern tip of Manhattan. It's got a huge variety of artifacts, including the tombs of several Medieval counts. Really a fascinating place. Make sure you don't miss the series of unicorn tapestries the place is famous for! They will 100 percent not disappoint.

sarai637

One of my favorite museums ever. Beautiful and interesting art. Lovely park! It’s just great

Michael Lemke

This place is a hidden gem that I had never heard of. If you're passing through do yourself a favor and allow an extra hour to go through it!

jovi salcedo

Beautifully enchanting gothic medevil castle on top of a hill overlooking the scenic river encapsulates the secerets of yester year a must see and visit in person to truely appreciate the true hidden treasures of this ancient marvel.

Muhammad Aqil Prasetyo

A really nice place to visit especially when the weather is good, worth the hike uphill.

Frankie XO

I was absolutely blown away with the art, architecture, the location, the photos with the art and scenic view of the Hudson River. The MET Cloisters is an addition to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with more attention towards Christian art like Jesus and architecture of monasteries influenced from Europe. It is pretty far from Midtown and Central Park but the A Train runs basically express all the time so transit is ok. Furthermore, the employees were overall really helping, sweet, and courteous. The park that the Cloister is located on serves greatly for photos, hiking, and many more. Highly recommended for tourist after visiting the MET in Central Park!

Ali

Nice view outside, towards Hudson river!

Salvador Menjivar

The most peaceful and exquisitely reconstructed set of European cloisters uptown along the Hudson river with a stunning unique collection of early religious art and exhibits ranging from 11th to 15th C from France, Spain and Italy. An absolute must for any visitor who comes to the Big Apple.

The only way my fiancé could get me to move to New York was to promise to move me near the Cloisters. Now I love living in New York, who couldn’t love it when they live next to a beautiful park with a castle?

Penny PETERS

It's definitely worth a visit kind of out of the way but full of magnificent and beautiful artifacts! I definitely suggest to walk around the park and its surroundings! A lovely walk in the park during the fall time of the year!

Mark Torres

Definitely an interesting trip for exploring some exhibits. However, best to have a plan and reason to go there as the place is not that big or large like other MET locations. The feeling of walking through the place does give a medieval vibe that feeds the imagination.

Blue Moon

Beautiful art, beautiful building, beautiful grounds. If you've any interest in medieval art and architecture it's worth a visit.

The sunnier, the better so you can fully enjoy the outdoor garden and cafe. The museum itself is beautiful but given it's size the space fills up quickly with quite a few tour groups going around. I’d recommend spending time in the flower garden and bringing a book. Often times there will be music or the odd vocalist which makes the experience far richer.

Katerina Telonis

Such a cool place with beautiful, quiet gardens to escape the city.

Kilah Harper

Obviously very beautiful historical objects and the building is gorgeous.

This beautiful historical collection of religious art and architecture museum. Parts are small terrace gardens, and outdoor atrium so weather permitting. There is moderate amount of walking to be done with the various rooms. There is a lot of reading regarding the importance and beauty with the artifacts on display so young children may not be ideal to take. Park nearby is clean and spacious for picnic and free parking available on site.

Great place to not only watch the mid age works but also take a rest. A peaceful place with a beauriful garden. The path to climb up to the museum is also great either way from both metro stations nearby.

Beautiful location and very peaceful - you wouldn't think you were in nyc at all. However, the art collection there is somewhat sparse, given the fairly expensive ticket price. Even so, if you buy a ticket for here, you can use it on the same day to also enter the Met and the MOMA, so if you plan on visiting several of these locations in a day, it's certainly worth it. The cafe is pretty, although even by museum standards overpriced ($15 for a half-frozen sandwich?).

This was our 2nd visit to cloisters and there is always some exciting things planned there. This year we enjoyed the theme of Christianity's influence on fashion and dress design.

Jorge Luiz Wayerbacher Hoffmann

Gentle attendants. Interesting gallerys. More than OK for $25.

Lance Rhodes

Really nice museum. A nice comfortable size to go around. Only thing that lets it down are the refreshment area. Well its really a moveable counter that has a very very limited range of snacks or drinks. Better to wait and eat elsewhere. The museum it self is definitely worth going to see if you like French Spanish German medieval art. The building is worth going to see in it's own right.

If you love medieval art and architecture, then The Cloisters is a must visit. Part of the network of The Met museums, The Cloisters is a concentration of medieval art that doesn't just simply display on a stand, in a case, or on the wall. They have integrated the pieces within the structure. So, you walk through a mock convent or monastery as it would have been in 16th century France. A completely immersive approach to history and art. Situated on top of a hill in upper Manhattan, John Rockefeller, a lover of art, had pieces of monasteries shipped from Europe and architectures built the structure to house the art. When you buy a ticket to any Met museum you can use it for any other Met location within a three day period. By getting a ticket for The Cloisters I was able to use it at The Met next to Central Park and take my time and look at selected venues instead of feeling rushed to take in as much as possible. The entire Cloister museum can be done in a day (if you take your time and look and read everything) or half a day. Either way you get a great feel for the medieval era.

First time going and it beautiful and enjoyed the medieval festival!

Angela Glass

I want to extend my gratitude to the Cloisters museum and their staff who were extremely helpful getting my mother - who is disabled - around and accommodating our need for a wheelchair. The museum is a beautiful and old structure with many stairs. The security guards couldn’t have been more helpful getting us where we needed to go, by elevator and also getting us very close to the parking lot when it was time to leave. Thank you!!! Really.

Such a great place to visit. A gem nestled away at the northern point of Manhattan. Rich in history. Worth the trek all the way uptown. It's quite the hike up to the monestary so avoid visiting when it's incredibly hot out.

Matthew Seabrook

Walked from the subway (an easy ride on the A) through the park to the Cloisters, far above expectations! Donation-based entrance fee for New York residents, and the entire property is incredibly impressive. Plenty to see even if you move high speed through museums. The entire experience feels like an escape from Manhattan which we all need sometimes.

Michael Nitz

Awesome! Just a beautiful setting. And the Unicorn Tapestries are there! Perfect!

Kristopher Sevill

The architecture alone of this place is gorgeous, let alone the stuff on display inside.Came here for a work outing and got to walk around for an hour. It was not enough time for me to fully sink in all of museum artifacts, but I really enjoyed the space. The garden in the back with all of the medieval plants used for medicines and poisons was something different and unexpected. It also looks out over a beautiful picture of the Hudson- a do not miss view!I will warn you that getting to the stop of the hill is quite a trek, and unless you enjoy uphill climbing, I recommend taking a car. It is very steep and there are many stairs. I wish I had known that before visiting.

Harry Bradley

The Met Cloister was a gorgeous museum. It has medieval European treasures and beautiful gardens. The architecture itself is worth the visit. A must see.

Ariel Diaz

Nice place to absorb history, meditate and communicate with good people

Evelyn Abdul

Gorgeous grounds. Amazing views. Parking not too bad. Definitely worth a few hours or half a day. I took audio tour due to Saturday being very busy didnt have time to book tour group. Well worth the timeless art.

Kim-Jong-Kenny

Very beautiful and historic artwork giving very pretty looks into history of Christianity very nice scenery and serenity outside of the building is an amazing place to take picture even saw people take wedding pictures! Overall very nice except for the fact that the museum is very small for the price you pay and the entrance way to the museum is very weird and rigid.
