I have family Day pass. There is a parking lot, it was hard to find in that big snug harbor area, but when we found it you have to becareful beacuse it is a sidewalk where the visitors walk, in order to get to other parts of snug harbor. Then we had to walk from the back area of the museum all the way to the front with a bunch of stairs, not wheelchair accessable, the areas of which it was accessable...the doors were all locked (you could only exit from them, not enter!) And during that day we went we also went to an event, Lina who is an artist. It was fun to make those yellow butterflies. The museum was very secure with your bags in a closet by the entrance it eas locked up, that's fine and all...but they also took the diaper bag! When we were leaving I asked for it back just so I can change my daughter's diaper. But the little gift shop was nice as well as the small areas of si history although i remember the old si museum was bigger/ had more exhibits. Overall, the event being held there made it worth going!

We went when a Korean exhibition was going on. Very nice -especially kid friendly. I recommend taking mass transit (we took ferry from NYC and walked our way to the museum). Very nice experience -too bad you can't post videos here, there was an epic violin-piano duo who were extra awesome

We made a visit to the Staten Island Museum to see the Impractical Jokers display. We were greeted right when we entered and we paid the suggested amount. We noticed we were being followed by one of the museum workers the entire time. She kept talking to us and followed us from room to room. We had two small children with us who were looking at the exhibits as well. They were well behaved, not running around or touching things, and she kept telling us to not let our children touch things or climb on things. They didn’t do this even once, they were by my side the entire time. This lady ruined our entire visit to the museum. We will not be back.

Another gem on The north shore of Staten Island. The museum is continuously expanding the breathe of their exhibits and is located on spectacular grounds of Snug Harbor. The best time to visit and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds the museum is spring / early summer while the exotic plants and flowers are blooming or during the fall to appreciate the colors. A must visit after a scenic ferry ride, if you're just passing through or if you're a resident.

I visited the Impractical Jokers Homecoming exhibit and absolutely LOVED it! They have a BUNCH of props from the show, displays on how the Tenderloins grew to their current level of success, video interviews of the guys, behind the scenes stories, etc. It's absolutely worth the visit for any Impractical Jokers/Tenderloins fans!!!

People at front desk were very kind and helpful with buying tickets. One of the curators was kind enough to walk through the exhibits and tell us fun facts about the Impractical Jokers exhibit. The people working there are very kind. Wonderful experience.

This was the worst museum I’ve ever been to. From the moment we walked in through the accessible entrance since we had a stroller, we were followed by security who kept pointing us in the direction of the front desk to pay. We knew where we were going as we were able to read the signs directing us. We paid the fees for our family to view the museum and that same security guard followed us throughout the entire museum. Once I realized we were being followed like criminals I stopped paying attention to anything in the museum. I couldn’t even enjoy myself knowing that everytime we went to a different floor and viewed another exhibit, I would turn around and there he was. Just watching us. I couldn’t wait to leave and I’d likely never return due to how uncomfortable I was being followed for no reason.

First, it is better small museum than no museum! Second, they could do better. The place is small, cool, but just not enough. I don’t know how many actually visited this Museum, and to be honest, I can’t say that they missed a lot. I try to visit an exhibition once a month, and I guess I will have to go to NYC or to Brooklyn to get a chance to see a good one.

The Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor was very nice. Snug Harbor is the perfect setting for it. The exhibits were well done and interesting. The renovations to the buildings was done in very good taste. There was plenty to see. My one knock was this. I, along with other people there, were disappointed that periods from basically 1940 on weren't there. Most exhibits were from early America. That's ok, but people want to be able to relate to their youth. There should be large section dedicated to the nineteen hundreds on. The staff was very pleasant and helpful...

Andrew L

I feel this museum has alot of potential, and the building is beautiful, the collection presented is very nice too. Admission is a bit high, especially for such a small collection but it is going for a good cause. A nice visit in a stunning setting. But it just seems that they need to tweak it a bit more to make return visits more desirable. a lower price for Staten island residents might help this happen.

Mark Heinze

Small but good quality. You need about an hour. See Snug Harbor Museum and Chinese Garden on the same campus. I went in January but would recommend from May to October.

We had visited the Staten Island Museum back when it was located adjacent to the Staten Island Borough Hall. Back then, it was very quirky and, to some degree, resembled a place that had been assembled from the contents of many private attics over time. There didn't seem to be a theme connecting everything except that the artifacts exhibited had some connection to Staten Island. Now, in its new location at Snug Harbor, the Staten Island Museum clearly displays the influence of the professional curatorial staff from the Smithsonian Institution.

Another great night out at the Staten Island Museum. The themed cocktail party was a success.

The Staten Island Museum is one of NYC's hidden gems. The museum's collection is eclectic and contains important art and artifacts. It has a large collection of natural science objects, including a major entomology collection, an art collection which spans centuries, and a history collection/archives. The original museum is on Stuyvesant Place near the Staten Island Ferry. The "new" museum is on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center. It is beautiful. There are a number of galleries, including contemporary art, painting (which includes Hudson River School painter Cropsey), and a delightful Treasure Box gallery. The Treasure Box contains varied objects and art from the museum's collection. It is so cool. There is also a history display, which includes wall panels showing the progression of Staten Island from farmland to city. It is located in the auditorium, where programming such as lectures, performances, and literary programming takes place. There is fun programming at the museum, too, for adults and children. I can't say enough about this museum. It is handicapped accessible via side entrance, a short bus ride (S40) from the Staten Island Ferry.

A nice building housing a terrible museum. The exhibits are poorly displayed with no local interest or stories. There is no obvious theme or flow to the Museum and its sections. The air is stuffy and there are imposing doors between rooms. The audio guide is not narrative or entertaining and there is no thought to how to make the museum accessible to people with sight problems.

Small museum, exhibits were of poor quality, not very informative, and in the case of their Staten Island Ferry exhibit, out of date. There are only about 4 spaces for exhibits. When I visited the top floor was filled with contemporary modern art portraits that had nothing to do with Staten Island or even New York. The basement was a very basic over view of the native american times of Staten Island, without having much detail. The basement didn't appear to have been updated for quite some time as well. I did enjoy some of the rock and insect collections, however they seemed like a product of 1930s museum culture. I wouldn't recommend this museum, but it is close to the ferry, and doesn't take much time to explore.

I would not waste your time going to the Staten Island Museum. It is not worth even the free trip on the Staten Island Ferry. While I heard good things about their exhibits, I was underwhelmed, especially on their exhibit (in the basement) of the Native Americans who used to live in that area. In their defense, I guess you have to work with what you've got as far as space goes, but it was small, stuffy, and the displays were really bland. Maybe some of their events (they talk about summer camp for kids in the summer as being a big thing) are better, but the museum itself lacks interesting displays (and I really like museums).

it is a nice museum and the event should have been a nice vent but it was cold to many in the venue that we had to keep jackets on by time they got to refreshment some were too cold to eat it . An elected official in audience seems more respect would have been given shows you what appears nice on outside may not be it is brand spanking new look and very nice place but when you hosting an event with speakers and guests the little things matter and what people remember . But would say its a good outing for all ages and many who want to learn something about history .

We took the Staten Island Ferry, to see the Statue of Liberty, and then stopped by this museum to give us something to do before heading back. My kids love museums. They enjoyed it, and can't beat the price (free on Tuesday from 12-2). Staff was friendly and a few interesting exhibits. Small but worth the short walk from the ferry.
