This Museum is classified in the category of Art museum.
Cool museum.
Love the National Ward exibhit right now
Always worth a visit
Very original special exhibits.
Seemed like a bad part of town. Of the 5 floors, we agreed that two were worth the visit.
A great experience , we'll worth several repeat visits
I've been coming to the New Museum for several years, and although the rotating artwork can be hit or miss, I enjoy that the museum is open to trying many different artists and mediums. The staff working behind the counter can be a bit abrasive, as if they're not prepared for the crowds that sometimes come through the doors. Thankfully, the museum offers a free basic membership to NYC ID holders, which I've taken advantage of. Unfortunately, I've been scolded for trying to check in via the member's line, which I really find a bit silly. The staff in general behaves like they could use a bit more customer service training.
The new museum is the venue I like to go by and get on the Internet to explore my world.
Marta Minujin. Also, loving the sample of POC up and coming artists
Beautiful space! Went with my friend and the space was really interesting and the exhibits were so unique. They seem dedicated to sharing a political as well as political message. Here for it.
I thought it was going to be fantastic but I was really disappointed. Before you go please search up the exhibition or else it will be a waste of money luckily we had a free entry due to there anniversary year so. But yes make sure you see what they have.
sometimes interesting, sometimes WTF is this abstract elitist BS!
Art was definitely unique. Only had access to 3 floors (1 of which was just two TVs), but we got half price because two floors were having art installed.
A fabulous space, and always amazing exhibits.
I'm a big art fan but the New Museum was well above my head. I can usually appreciate modern art, but this was something else. Definitely some interesting exhibits and something you can enjoy if you can understand it. Fortunately I got free tickets with my Chase Private Client Culture Card, but I probably would not have paid for tickets had I known what the art inside would be like. If you do go, make sure you visit the top floor for a nice view of the city skyline.
Sometimes worth the visit for insight into current contemporary art activity. Sometimes a waste of time.
Great addition (well it's not that new but relatively new) to the Soho and Nolita neighborhoods. Now you can not only shop here, but also go to one of the best new museums in NYC.
A great building with some good exhibitions, sometimes.
Get there at 1230 and go on the free tour. It was well worth it. Very much enjoyed the exhibition - Nari Ward.
If you're into random "art" pieces that are a "social commentary" then this is the place for you. If you value the finite resources we have then you might wanna avoid thinking about this place.
Small but good
Wonderful. Sleeper museum in East Village. Go here.
Great place in SoHo
The current exhibition did not blow me away but it was certainly thought provoking and out of my comfort zone. The museum is quite small. I was done in an hour and a half.
Can't wait to go back. I would to bring friends and family along with me next time. There was so much to see and do, I couldn't take it all in with such a short time I was there. It makes you appreciate lots of things way more. I hope everyone gets a chance to experience this for themselves. It's easy to sit and tell you, but to experience it for yourself is way better. Life is too short not to try new things. I'm selling Avon and hope in a crazy way I can make people feel better with their purchases. There's nothing like being apart of something so great that makes people feel so good. Don't just take my word for it, go out and see for yourself what I just experienced, you may have a different reaction than I did. I hope this information was very useful to you and your family.
Wonderful museum -one of the best in NYC, well curated exhibitions - 5 ⭐️, BUT if museum is a cultural institution -New Museum unfortunately doesn’t care about people with temporary or permanent disability and their staff and managers do not want to assist or help, even when you ask them!
Always some interesting and unique show to attend
They have really cool edgy exhibits and it's really big! Need at least 2-3 hours to really get through everything with time to digest the information. Loved it
Great place and a great piece of architecture! They have very interesting exhibitions and wonderful rooftop view.
Great spot to see contemporary art.
Interesting museum. Thoughtful exhibits. Very contemporary. They have a partnership with the nearby international center for photography so you can go to both for a fee. Worth a visit if you're nearby or interested in a specific show. Lots of local galleries nearby.
Great small museum right next to Soho. Very nice roof deck with views of the city also.
Very small museum. Interesting to see but IMO not worth the high admissions price. Time needed: 30-90mins.
Great building-the shows are pot luck some absolutely terrible others are fine- I keep going back hoping for better
Refreshingly subversive and clever art installations.
very nice experience...
Really interesting space. The Nari Ward gallery was very nice, and quite different from what you expect from a traditional showcase. The view from the top floor is really spectacular, but unfortunately, it is only open to the public on weekends. The elevators are quite slow, but luckily there is east access to the stairs and those don’t have as much traffic. There’s a security guard positioned in the stairwell now, so don’t get a jump scare when you see someone standing around the turn of the steps.
I didn’t love the way to circulate the museum, but gallery spaces were ok. My favorite exhibit was the one on the basement level.
The Sarah Lucas show was amazing, and the other smaller exhibitions were thought-provoking. The architecture of the building was phenomenal to look at and they have a good selection of books in the gift shop
Not worth the price. Small museum, few works of art
Grand, inspiring space showcasing modern works spanning most artistic disciplines. Immersive video and live performance pieces situated in a lively, historic area walking distance to transportation with access to ample other dining and cultural exploration opportunities.
Is it possible to give zero stars? Honestly so disappointed... I came to the New Museum in a great mood! I was excited to see some good artwork... as soon as I got there they demanded that I check my bag and had a strong attitude (not in a good way). Don't get me wrong the artwork was amazing but the atmosphere... the security kept yelling at us for doing nothing & was extremely rude. Then I paid $11 for a small bar of chocolate and a lemonade!! She was very passive aggressive... probably because she is forced to work in such a horrible environment!! Wish I could say I enjoyed it but hopefully I never have to go back... I'm not mad, just disappointed!
Great contemporary art. Located on the Bowery great views from the roof top. A must stop if you are in the neighborhood
I've got to admit some of it rocketed over my head and some of it wasn't exactly to my taste but still a cool museum
I love to come here regularly, sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's not really my thing, but always interesting, sometimes edgy.
'Interesting' but not at all my idea of what constitutes art.
Great exhibits they seem to feature an upcoming artist across all floors which is great because by the end you've really learned about the values and message the artist is portraying whether you intended to or not.
Marta Minujín's Menesunda Reloaded was an utterly unique experience
Excellent museum of contemporary art. Check what's on. There's also a small cafe with coffee and treats on the ground floor.
It was expensive for a ticket ($18) but they had several movies playing so I guess that justifies the cost. Not that much too look at but I'm sure that changes with each exhibit.
Great experiences here. Thank you for making this art available to people! Minor note: in the future, when you 'sell out' of a book, but still have multiple display copies lying around, swap those out for printed sheets of paper that display the cover and a note with info on the book. Sell those display copies to the people in the meanwhile.
If you want to go to see something interesting then go ahead. If you want to go to see art then head on down to the MET.
Without a tour guide the art might go over you head. The art exhibit at the time seemed to obsessed over shock factor. I didn't enjoy the exhibit, but I assume others might. The security was great. They really protect the art, make sure everything is smooth, and they are nice! I
If you come on Thursday after 6pm is pay whatever you want night.
This Museum might not be appropriate for younger children under 18. It depends on what they are exhibiting. The artwork at the new museum is very avant-garde. If you're there on a weekend make sure you make it up to the rooftop garden. If you have extra time after seeing Museum the Bowery kitchen interesting to the checkout.
great exhibit right now, Nari Ward. all floors dedicated to his installations.
Exhibitions are never that curated here. Never much on show given the ticket price. A great space that has yet to be used properly
Very disorganized and rude front desk. Can not check in a large heavy tote bag. They only check in your backpack. I used to go almost every show there. Never going back again.
There were 5-6 exhibition in my visit of great american conteprorary artists. It takes about half an hour. Highly recomended, but check the schedule. Thursday 7-9 pm is pay-what-you-want day/slot
The intimate setting brings you up close and personal with each artistic item. A truly fantastic place.
Eclectic museum with varying displays of modern art. Some of it can be quite shocking, so prepare yourself. Highly recommend visiting on discounted Thursdays.
No military discounts, and the art was very boring. I only saw two pieces of art that I appreciate. I found the rest of the Ark to be too abstract or just downright confusing. Place is kind of a disappointment.
Great museum for cutting edge contemporary art
I like the new Museum and their programs. They are the most open and audacious in pushing the envelop. The museum itself is clean and sleek.
Really weird museum but different and interesting
amazing collection. and free coat check. nice
Offers free admission for students which is nice. I had a few hours to kill and this smaller museum was the perfect size for me to see all of in my allotted time without feeling overwhelmed and still getting a rich experience. I am hoping to return within the year.
Great art museum. Always has unique exhibits. And an INCREDIBLE video of the city
I probably should have read more about the museum before going here. But that's my fault. I assumed it was like any typical museum but it's not. They rotate out the artists and exhibits every few months. Which is awesome for the artists but not so much people who don't live in New York and thus can't see the exhibits when they're displayed. I guess I have to make more trips to New York, which isn't a terrible thing.
A good place to hang out alone or with a couple of friends.
Great experience! One of the best museum I’ve seen in my life
It's my understanding this museum changes constantly. While I greatly enjoyed certain exhibits, I felt a large quantity of them were provocative for the sake of being provocative. Nudity in art is fine, but when it's neither portraying an aesthetic nor conveying a deeper message, it's almost pretentious.
space in the city to where you can Witness a Museum and rent event space
Very avant-garde.
Good place to look around
Stop expanding and give your workers a fair contract. Union busting is not a good look!
The New Museum is great. It's the kind of museum people who hate museums love. They have a lot of video art, as well as spaces where you can sit and chill. I would highly recommend.
It's getting better and better. Small space, with some very inspiring, provoking, informative contemporary exhibitions. Enjoy it.
Honestly they always bring new exhibits
The Sarah Lucas show was amazing, her work is extraordinary. However when I went on Tuesday afternoon, the security guard at the front door was very hostile towards me, asking for documents for my service dog, which is illegal and I told him, still he persisted until I took papers out of my service dogs vest pocket before he backed off. This was illegal to ask for documents as there are no required paperwork for SDs and the staff at a large museum should know better than to barrate the disabled guests immediately upon entry.
Exciting and fascinating!
the museum is lovely. great staff, interesting space. Contemporary art is fickle thing so obviously there are exhibits that can seem emperor is the new clothes. But if you don't try you won't know what you like.
Fun museum with great rooftop views!
The new museum is an attraction by the architecture itself. The elevator is amazing! They showcase new and young artist, with different curatory lines, so it's a great opportunity to get to know what's new.
Modern art at its finest. Has all the greatest tributes to those on the cutting edge of art and culture. Bring your friends. I did and will come back again soon.
Great museum for cutting edge contemporary art
A great museum for immersive experiences and avant-garde art
One of the best experiences I've had at an art gallery ever. Absolutely reccomend, a must-see
I think this was the worst museum I ever been. They seem to have a lot of space for exhibitions but most of it is empty or few art exposed. I had a NY pass and I feel I waste my time here.
Nice but expensive
Great contemporary art gallery. Inspired, amused, and generally loved the installations and interactive pieces. Odd and interesting installations that weren't ordinary or plain. Loved the gallery, staff was very kind, and lines were negotiable on a holiday weekend.
Hip and chic Museum
Wonderful, alive, for all ages
I didn’t like it to that extension as I did love The Whitney Museum. Service is not cheerful and friendly as well. Better skip it if your time in NYC is limited. Or you can put it in the end of your must visit places list.
Well-designed gallery with a nice little cafe. Several multi-screen video galleries with easy wandering between without disturbing other viewers. This rating was heavily swayed by the Thomas Bayrle exhibit.
Shows here are usually hit or miss. The roof events during the summer are pretty neat, though.
Amazing museum of contemporary art in nyc
Collection itself is interesting, however personally wouldn’t go there again
Had a good time!
If you're into Buzzfeed articles in sculptural form, dressed in emperor's art clothes, this is perfect for you.
The greatest modern museum
It's become a must-visit place for me. They're slightly leftfield. Lovely simple large spaces. Exciting back steps between 4 and 3. I'd prefer $12 admission to the current $18... which keeps it more of a treat than a frequent repeat. PS I never had something in enjoyed much in the cafe but it's usually busy so whaddooeyeknow?
Beautiful museum at LES. The space itself isn’t too big so you won’t get visual art fatigue from going around. My favorite museum shop! They have such quirky things there.
This museum is great. You should visit this place.
Pretty cool stuff. The intern who was asking questions about visitors at the entrance was super kind. Would visit again.
Feels like it could be a lot more than it is.
...always worth a visit....
Great experience and great staff!!!
Impactful show centered on US imigration policy, how it effects not only individuals seeking help but also their attorneys which permeates the culture. Juxtaposition of silk screens with harsh policies of US laws. Must be seen.
What a waste of time and money. However, the service it’s nice, but still do not waste your time there.
Great window display @infiniteobjects
I got a yearly membership which is convenient. Out of 10 exhibitions, I typically find 8 amazing so its a great museum to see contemporary art.
I think it sukkkkks.
A refreshing multi-modal presentation covering art, multimedia, some sculpture. Bound to see something different anytime you visit, since they plan different themes and give opportunity to many new artist that have still not 'made it'. Enjoyed 'gender as a tool and weapon' theme in my visit - dec 2017. Give yourself an hour and a half. They also have a cozy coffee shop and store .
Great exhibitions, lovely new building and a very intriguing store
Its boring but full of surprises
This museum has a great selection of a variety of artistic items. There are many events to enjoy and there is always a special exhibition. There is something for everyone to enjoy. It is one of the best places for family outings as well as to take kids along. Children love to have fun and learn.
Fascinating exhibits here. Had a lot of fun and I can't wait until they reopen with the new exhibits. Thursday's between 7 and 9pm you can pay whatever you want to get in.
Awesome contemporary artworks.
Never going back. Had to argue with security about my purse because it looks too much like a backpack. They were going to have me empty it into a plastic bag so I could carry my valuables around. Then you have an empty purse in security but I can carry my stuff around with me just as long as it's not in my leather purse that looks too much like a backpack. Yeah, makes perfect sense to me. I've been there before and the exhibits are only ok. Then they wanted full price even though two floors were closed. At least the Guggenheim discounts admission on days when they are only partially open. Not worth the price of admission. Go to the Whitney instead.
Even though I happened to be here when two of the five floors were closed because of future exhibitions and the place looked still under construction, I think this museum has good potentials. Still a lot to improve, but they’ll get there.
I love that they generally exhibit people who are not white men.
Love this Museum go here regularly
Definitely worth seeing with an open mind, the art can be a little questionable for some, but it is unique and worth seeing. If not for the exhibits, just the wonderful city view from the Sky Room is enough to plan a visit.
Provoking and we'll curated collections that rotate frequently enough to keep visiting.
This place did not for kids.terrible,sex.if you take your kid.Skip it . Science and metropolitan musien is best for your family.
My eccentric art palace. One of the staple museums in NYC. Stop by!
The exhibits here are relatively interesting and for an $18 adult ticket, the opportunity to see different works seems worth it. Given the vertical nature of the architecture, circulating around the museum exhibits was a bit more choppy than most museum experiences. Some might say the spaces are the right size while others might think the spaces are a bit small. I liked the sky lounge which is open on the weekends and gives you access to some nice views. I will say the some of the exhibits might not fit everyone's taste but they were thought provoking nonetheless.
Love it ! You should go
I only went there because I was interested in one exhibition. The place is good, good service, clean. I can't say much about it.
Interesting exhibitions. Quite cool building itself. It’s also part of AAM.
It's a great museum that has very interesting and contemporary artwork. Their current exhibit of Nari Ward's "We The People" is amazing.
Nice museum
Love it.
Museum is well establish and there is lots of knowledge to gain. I will visit again.Very helpful staff
I like the interactive section of the displays and it was worth what I paid. Great works and had a great view on the sky deck.
Love it! Plenty to do. All kinds of interesting, sometimes shocking exhibits, shows (VC Davis, e.g., my fav), and such a bright spot in the downtown community. I've been taking my kids since they were little little (when appropriate), arms we love it, are happy to support it. We're happy to hit it whenever we can!
Interesting museum
The top room is by far the best
A great Museum filled with excellent modern and contemporary art. Avant garde and quite different. Caters to adult taste in artworks.
World class museum. Incredible building and really edgy material. Fine art can be inaccessible, this was something else. Very elusive and abstract pieces of art. Only Reykjavik Art Museum compares. Architecture and art.
Allways surprising
Felt overpriced to me, but I guess that's Manhattan. Enjoyed the five screen movie by the English artist (forgot her name, think the title of the piece had "blood" in it). The au naturel exhibit felt pretty boring, something that would have been risque a century ago, less so now.
This museum is on the smaller end, with modern art from only a handful of artists and one featured artist. I personally didn't like the featured artist when I visited, so having one floor after another with the same ideas over and over again was tiring. You really have to be into this kind of art to enjoy yourself. Definitely not for children.
Excellent contemporary art.
I don't understand the TERRIBLE design and architecture. Why would you build such a small dumpy space with the stairs and elevator in the middle dividing the space. No windows only make it MORE small and claustrophobic. NOT a world class museum. Dumpy.
One of those buildings you have to see if you like Architecture. Haven’t had the opportunity to go inside so I don’t hace an opinion about current exhibitions. Maybe next time. Building looks great.
Fantastic modern art. The exhibits were conceptual and many spoke to various social issues. The seventh floor outdoor space was fabulous as well. I really enjoyed the variety in terms of styles of art as well as various mediums. One of the highlights for me was the interactive walk through exhibit currently on the third floor. Be quick when going through it though - while it’s a cool place for selfies, each space is very small and you have to move through pretty quickly as it’s so popular. I say this because, unfortunately, the staff had to intervene and seemed annoyed at some of the hold ups caused by people stopping to take photos. The only downside to this museum in my opinion is the fact that it’s a bit disjointed in its layout - there is no clear way to move through the various spaces and it is easy to miss things. It is smaller than many other museums in Manhattan but that’s something I personally enjoyed. Overall, a cool experience.
Very modern. Incredibly conceptual. Excellent location. Very decent waitstaff.
Two rugs and two pictures don't make a museum. More like a store with a cafe. Though they keep asking for the tickets everywhere!
Great place
Very contemporary art exhibits
This place constantly changes exhibition featuring international artists that have really unconventional ways of expressing art of have unconventional messages in conventional forms of art (like paintings or sculptures). It's really surprising. It's also near Little Italy so you can grab a bite before or after. Tickets are around $20 and you don't need to buy them in advance.
This is a wonderful museum to bring children or a date. There is so much to discuss with each of their exhibits. Much of the art is interactive. All of it is modern and we'll respected. Worth going out of your way for.
If you like contemporary art this place is worth visiting
One of the best contemporary art museums in NYC
Love the work, and the curation is almost always on point
It is small but good art
