REVIEWS OF Museum of the City of New York IN New York

Brian Ratajczak

Well curated view of history, and distilled into insightful themes. That said, much of the museum felt like a long Wikipedia article, with little value add for being in person. The coolest thing to me was the City Lab (which has a giant tv that highlights demographics across all of NYC), but the health exhibit was a let down. Worth it if you're looking for an overview of history of NY, and don't want to read or watch a documentary.

Jam Yoo

The Museum of the city of New York is pretty cool it’s very very big building. There are many exhibitions on many floors and the elevators are fast and accessible. The exhibitions are very informational and it has a lot of interesting visual materials but can be a bit dull for children. Barbara D once went to this museum with me and said it was informational inspiring and overall her experience was great.

Jason Westerkon

One of the less-visited museums is still worth a visit for its unique view into the history of NYC. A nice blend here of main exhibits (focusing on pre-unification and post-unification history of the city), and short-terms exhibits. My biggest issue is that the main halls use very vertical showcases with the captions inside the glass. This makes it very difficult to stand there and read anything without being in the way of somebody else. Plus these captions are not numbered. The digital experiences within are top-notch though, better than most.

Jimmy Mango

Typical boring museum with some cool exhibits

Meg Caccavale

The beautiful city museum of New York. Of course, it is worth a visit to all residents and tourists to find out a lot of interesting things.

Brian Dunlop

An impressive collection of artifacts, memorabilia, history of all peoples of NYC, and of course a fine gift shop which you must exit through. You can tour the history of the city beginning before the arrival of the Dutch up until today, and there are also rotating exhibits of artwork on the upper floors. Staff was helpful too pointing you in the right direction. Also entrance is free or you can pay what you like (suggested fee is $18). Located almost at the top of Museum Mile.

Юрий Алеев

Very good and professional staff makes this museum a special. All i saw was amazing and very good. Very useful place of this museum give you possibility very fast visit it on your way to job or to home. All persons of staff very kind and available for requests personally. I recommend this museum for really interesting resting.

Arib Osmany

Its was nice, pleace full, full of amazing facts and people. Has a own charging station so if your phone is low on battery this is the place to go and really nice staff. The gift shop has amazing things for a great price.

Alberto Salcedo

Great museum about new york's history. Must see if you're visiting.

Secret Specter

Uptown Bounce was cool! The main lobby was a little lit and awkward but enjoyable and the free exhibits were even better! ☺️

Charles Houston

Great variety of the history that makes NYC the unique place that it is. Went for the Jackie Robinson exhibit, but saw several other well worth the time. Friendly helpful staff.

Gabriela Chamorro

If you need to learn about the history and culture this the place to go. Super recommended.

Bailey Brown

Great museum. I have lived in the city for years and still learned so much! I attended the uptown bounce event and had a great time. I highly recommend a visit for tourists and New Yorkers.

Mark Wishnia

Pretty cool spot that really captures the beat of New York in the present and the past. Definitely worth a visit. And exhibitions get changed a lot so you can go there multiple times and find different things.

Anthony Pennza

The exhibits are always very well done. It's a great resource for a lot of the lesser known history of the city. I always learn something new when I visit.

çiçek şentüre

If a museum guide tells the stories of the materials, photos etc., yes it is OK. But if you are alone, I think visiting there is not necessary. The price of enter is 18$. Everyday at 2 pm there is free museum guiding.

Terry Reed

Went to the Museum Mile walk and stopped at a few. Exquisite exhibits. Hope to return soon without the crowd.

Peter Edwards

I go to this museum every time I go to New York. Everyone wants to see the big name museums and they should, but do not miss this jewel. This museum features the city and its people. It’s a wonderful first stop to understand how New York came to be and what makes it special. Do not miss the 30-min movie in the basement. Start there, and then marvel at all the characters and the crazy things that happened in this colorful city in the extremely well-designed exhibits on the main floor. The tickets are reasonably priced, so you can save you money for all the cute stuff in the gift shop. Skip Top-of-the-Rock and do this!

joanne sinovoi

the place has changed a lot since I went many years ago= gone are the fire engines and dolls and its more pictures and history= I found the movie about NYC interesting but somehow I miss the old museum as it used to be fun for kids

Greg Duff

Great collection but too much of it is shrouded in semi darkness.

Monica Brady

Go in the most interesting stairwell in the city! Current exhibits on feminism and activism in the city are very good. Bring tissues because they're very emotional.

Ryan Hanzawa

A decent museum if you are interested in the history of the city itself. A bit on the expensive side at $18 though. Also, the guy with the bald head on the 3rd floor was almost comically rude. He was like an actual grinch come to life.

Glenn Seymour

Interesting displays, movie on history of New York well worth visiting. Entry cost is $20, but you don't have to pay this, or can pay whatever you like. Staff make it a bit awkward to pay anything other than $20 though.

Ivy Solaris

Beautiful building. Awesome interiors and collections. Loved the lobby!

zhould1990

Great museum in NYC for NYC history. Not so big but very interesting and interactive, fashionable. Like it very much. New Yorker gets free access for up to four people with Cultural Pass reservation.

Roberto Napoletano

This is the ideal place to visit if you want to get some instant historical knowledge of New York, understand what makes it so alive and culturally diverse, figure out its geography, and marvel at the strength and determination of its people to survive sometimes unimaginable trials.... If nothing else the introductory 30 min video is worth the visit alone. But the exhibits were fabulous - pick your favourites. I particularly wanted to learn more about the city and its history and I left feeling satisfied. You can easily spend two or three hours there. But leave time to head out and explore Spanish Harlem or Central Park right outside..... Not to be missed.

Nico Nico

Good museum to know more about NY history, which is relevant if you come to discover the city

Nicole Holligan

The staff and security guards are very nice especially to children. The display of work is also very good.

Burton Dahle

Quick and to the point history experience for those new to NYC.

Ola Hantkiewicz

Fantastic place! Well prepared exhibitions, which could interest many people - the age doesn’t matter. Everything is clearly presented so you won’t get confused. They have huge collection of beautiful photographs. While visiting be sure you have made it to the movie about the history of the city - it’s great!

Mals k

Ok ok place to spend the rare time in Newyork.. There should be better places for this time..

A C

Always a pleasure to gain knowledge!

Aditya Mehta

It is a good place to go after finishing the main attractions in NY but if you don't like history you won't like this place. I don't think the ticket is worth it if you don't like history. If you took the RIDE NYC double-decker bus tour with the free ticket to the museum this is a good place to go.

Samuel Wong

To me, most intriguing exhibits are those special exhibitions. (2/F & 3/F) We visited a Stanley Kubrick photo exhibition, showcasing his photos as a photographer before he become a film director and a Chinese migrant photo exhibitions. Both exhibitions are well-curated to depict the city life of New York.

Fabian J

Great museum, get a free pass with the nyc library card. Start with the movie in the basement!!! Its amazing and sets you up for the rest of the museum. Then work yourself up floor by floor. Bring your own snacks, there is plenty of seating where you can take a break.

CeeCee B.

Great Musuem to visit. Has wonderful photos of NYC from the past. Also gives a movie showing I believe of history of Musuem and photos. Check website for details. Also has a summer camp programs. Thru summer in the city via board of education. Camp may only be a week, not sure. But my kid attended photography camp there for a week and had a blast.

Kiran Hombal

Could be better Don't miss the documentary played in the basement

thamara whitson

I always go in there to seat by the window on my lunch break. Everybody was seating down doing their own thing it's a free museum. But when i come its a problem i can't be by the window being on my phone or laptop. Too me i find it racists cause im Black. Im never stepping foot in that museum ever again.

edna perkins

Atmosphere is lovely inside, good venue to have an event

Martin Shenton

Wonderful exhibition but air con was set too low. Staff wearing suits visitors in T shirts and coats

Gerard Clifford

Went here on a recent visit to New York, there's an $18 entry fee or they say you can pay what you like. There are 3 floors of exhibitions with a little cafe on the first floor. Some interesting exhibitions around New York history and like most galleries there are a few exhibitions that are out there. Museum is located at the top of 5th Ave in museum mile. To get to it you can always walk through Central park

Tabia Augustin

Great museum! I enjoyed the exhibits. It costs $20 to get in, but check Groupon they have a current deal. Its located close to the 6 train and across from central park.

Stanley Sanders

Friendly, well informed helpful staff. Very interesting account of American history laid out in beautiful building. Only half way through exhibits and displays at present....

Donald Christensen

Used to have the best New York City oriented gift shop in the city. No longer. A recent revamping of the museum is only partly successful. Very confusing.

Christopher Grindstaff

There were too many displays of different things going on. There was an activism of new york display, one about blue man group, Jackie Robinson and bikes in NY. Each was fine by itself but together seemec a bit disjointed.

Seth Grossman

Wonderful museum that truly shows the history of NYC. Make sure you check out the 28 minute film narrated by Stanley Tucci which shows a great visual history of the city. And the interactive portion of the museum is both informative and fun. And the gift shop has the best selection of New York themed merchandise I've ever seen! I need to remember to go back there if I am ever looking for a fun NY gift for someone; from books to socks to jewelry made from old subway tokens, they had something for everyone and anyone whom might want to take a piece of the city home with them !

Michael Alvarado

Great and informative but designed for older, more mature and inquisitive learners.

Julio Quatro

Cute. Go there.

Enrique Perez

It was a great experience I truly learned alot from this museum

Artak Varzhapetyan

This is a very informative place! I think every New York resident must visit and learn about the great city we live in. Though, since I love New York very much, I feel like the museum should have more exhibits and details about the history. I went there with friends visiting from overseas and couldn’t demonstrate as much as I could speak. For example: I couldn’t find pictures or exhibits clearly stating that New York had been the Nations first capital. Maybe info is there, but perhaps to small or dull and I couldn’t see.

Alissa De La Rosa

Loved this place! its free if ur 18 and below and its really the perfect spot to learn about NYC whether you’re visiting or even if you’re just curious about the city you live in. If you’re visiting you gotta check out the Corduroy exhibit, I missed it my first visit and had to go back and see it, it brought back so many childhood memories. They also have a really cute gift shop and they sell the most adorable little trains with doors that slide open and shut!

Milena Suri

Many well curated exhibits that showed the history of New York.

Evalyn Block

A little museum on MY that doesn't get a lot of foot traffic. We love it. Check it out.

Sayantee Sahoo

Awesome museum for getting to know the city and its history. Cafe was closed at 3pm on the day we visited coz they ran out of food ! Restrooms in the top floor and ground floor only. Staff are pretty rude as well.

Luciano Miranda

Very nice museum for those who wish to know the history of NYC! Make sure to watch the movie they screen every 15 minutes. It's really nice!

James Fackrell

Top rate shows Pay what you want Delightful gift shop In the basement the museums intro to nyc history Is missing that fact that African American’s made outstanding contributions to the growth of nyc and the USA and the entire world Re-edit needed Other than than All groups represented here for shows

Capt Brad

Well organised, comprehensive, lots of fascinating artifacts from all aspects of NYC history, personalities, culture and politics., many more lost at 911 storage site, can be seen in a few hours with depth to stay longer with interactive video presentations. Pay as you can

David Meacham

Great wedding venue and staff.

adamlasl

Great exhibition about the history of the city, in as much (or little) detail as one could wish. Other exhibitions also interesting, especially photos of earlier nyc

Lind Phillips

Lived in NY for a large portion of my adult life. This museum shows a lot of the city. I went with my daughter to exhibit on the Village Voice. It was a walk down memory lane. Also the exhibit on LBGTQ. Something to be aware of 50 years after Stonewall. Staff was knowledgeable and the museum was easy to get around even for someone with disabilities.

C Ortiz

Amazing museum. Lots of NYC history to learn

Mary Rodriguez

Was their for a Rent Summit for NYC. Informative, parties from HPD and gov't agencies didn't want to answer questions that we the renters had!

Jennifer Bottoms

I love this museum. I've been twice (about 5 years between each visit) and have always enjoyed the experience there. The current exhibits have an immigration theme and are very informative. There's an interactive one as well which let's you look at various parts of the city and its demographics. There's also a great film about the beginnings of NYC. The gift shop has wonderful souvenirs and the cafe has some yummy snacks.

Echo Wu

This museum provides a nice documentation of how New York City evolved and grew over the decades. One can easily spent a couple of hours to walk through the museum or a couple days to go through the museum thoroughly. I especially appreciate the Interior Lives exhibition. The cafe is operated by Amy's Bread and it was a pleasure to sit in the airy space to take a mid-day break.

Катя Мєшкова

Very intresting place. You will see NY in another side after visiting this museum. History of the city is really impressive!

Jane Shutt

One of the best museums we have been to. We spent 4 hours there. Loved the interactive displays and variety of exhibits. A definite must see!! Not crowded like other NYC museums.

Ileana Cartagena

Beautiful place with all kinds of information on New York City. Very friendly staff. Hope I can visit again someday!

Bere Rodríguez

This place is amazing you can learn a lot by just going there and is very cheap

Samadhi Rodriguez

Fun they had good music and wonderful pictures

Jess Montgomery

Great museum with interesting history on the City of New York from the beginning to now. Worth checking out.

Bobby Jack

An excellent museum, with a compelling range of photographs, information, and artefacts related to New York City from its foundations to the present day. Topics covered included music, activism, immigration, economics, transportation, and architecture. Significantly, everything on show was accompanied by just the right amount of information — no extra booklets or audio guides required. There was also a good range of multimedia and interactive elements, and everything was laid out sympathetically. All members of staff were friendly and helpful. A small cafe and shops augment the main attraction. We visited shortly after a trip to the Guggenheim — it's a short walk along the same road — and much preferred what this museum had to offer. It wasn't too crowded, was slightly cheaper (technically, you can pay what you want!), and offered a lot more. We spent a couple of hours here, but that could easily have been twice as much if we'd had the time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this museum to anyone with at least a passing interest in New York City, and I will certainly return next time I'm in Manhattan.

C H

A must!! I took my son here for his 30th birthday and we had an absolutely spectacular time. Who knew about the rich culture that New York City had and how it began? There are endless nooks and crannies about the history of New York City inside the walls of this mansion. It is breathtaking and worth the cultural experience. Whether you walk through the museum, read passages or sit through short films, there is an endless amounts of knowledge to be learned. Your curiosity of New York City can be cured in one day and there is some good food to enjoy as well. I highly recommend this for children as well as adults. To all foreigners around the world, if you're interested in New York City this is the place to learn about it and learn thoroughly. It's a nice size museum and can be enjoyed within a few hours or take A-day to really ingest History of New York. Enjoy. It is worth every dollar. A go to this summer!!!

/\F\/ \/

If you want to know more about new york, then visit this museum. It is small but gorgeous in its way. Kind staff there.

Radhika Puri

This museum provides a nice documentation of how New York City evolved and grew over the decades. One can easily spent a couple of hours to walk through the museum or a couple days to go through the museum thoroughly. I especially appreciate the Interior Lives exhibition. The cafe is mindblowing.

jean carlo paes

Very nice place. If you have opportunity go there. You'll enjoy a lot

bob sanders

Today was my first time going to this museum I really enjoyed spending my afternoon getting additional information about New York because I’m always doing research on this city. This museum gets into a deeper background of New York Citys history. From how New York dominion over world finances to New York recovering economically from the Great Depression as well as the changes after the crime ridden 70s. This museum has a way of making my knowledge towards New York to be expanded I love all the exhibits it’s just an amazing place to go to

David Abrams

Don't miss Timescapes, a 30 minute video on the development of NYC. I would have liked to see an exhibit of an actual tenement apartment, rather than the few time-worn photos shown. Also an interactive room seems to be offered to appeal to today's kids. Ho hum. But it was popular. For a New Yorker like me who likes history, it was a fun 2 hours

Vicky Aguero

This was my first visit after living in NYC for the past 25 years. There was so much fascinating information and terrific exhibits to see. I highly recommend a visit.

Nicole Brinson

I love that during the summer they have "Uptown Bounce" where they stay open later and admission into the museum is free.

Tanya Smith

Uptown Bounce was a great affair. This was my first time there, I'm \ooking forward to going next year. Had a wonderful time.

Patrina Huff

A little further afield than some museums and a bit of a trek from the subway line. Offers a good selection of relevant exhibits and some talks.

david francis

Brilliant showcase of the city’s history and significant social movements.

Red Herring

The "Activist New York" exhibition touched me in ways I did not imagine I also enjoyed the clever links and references they have between their permanent and temporary exhibitions. Excellent curatorial jobs!

Цыпа Цыпочка

Awesome marble stares and chandelier. That's about it. People who made these exhibitions don't know what the word "museum" means. Very poor in all meanings. And boring too. "The Prohibition museum" in Savanna is a better example how such museums can be organized. I had a feeling that I visited not NY city museum but a village museum. Some villages have richer and more interesting museums.

Menachem Fastow

It wasn't a big as I expected but it has very cool things about old new York

P. András

If you are interested in urbanistics and cities, policies and legislation over urban leadership this one is for you!

Lorena Rocio Mendez Rivera

Very interesting exhibitions. The story of the city is studied from different perspectives and its interactive with some pictures and graphics. The guide was very nice and informative.Loved that you pay what you wished.

Will Barrett

Good but not the best definitely a average experience

Isaac Kost

havnt been there but yah yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

John Huber

What can I say, an unknown treasure focused on the great city. I believe 90percent of new York city's public hasn't been so getting around wasn't that bad. Fun way to learn interesting facts about the city

Natalie Johnson

This Museum was a lot of fun and very informative experience!

Daniel Lawson

Lesser known but nevertheless one of the most important of the city's museums, MCNY is the museum that dives deep into the history and culture of NYC. NYC-philes like myself will love special exhibits and events rotated seasonally through the museum. The museum is also physically beautiful and is located right across the street from Central Park and the Conservatory Garden. An ideal spot for an Autumn outing.

Alan Jacome

I live this place, this place have a lot history of nyc, for the people whose love NY.

Sharon Kelly

What an eclectic little museum filled with interesting pieces and special exhibits. We'll go back.

Molly James

Excellent interactive exhibit on history of the city. Fun and interesting temporary exhibits. Great building!

Jeremy Kurz

Very interesting history of this great city. Horse taking the time to read through the exhibits and especially the basic exhibit about the history of the cities development from the local indigenous Indians to the present

Mark Munford Jr

This is a good family oriented business. Children are welcome.

Astrid Lamas

Great way to display the city’s history through digital/interactive installation. Definitely worth visiting.

Soňa Pečeňáková

Great museum! You can learn a lot about the history of the city, there is a great interactive space about the future of the city. Gift shop is awesome for original souvenirs as well!

Larraine Criss

Great place to learn the cultural and political history of New York. Love that there is a free tour guide inside

Faith Davidssyn

Had the information I needed and more. Very lovely website and easy to maneuver.

Tracy Morales

Interesting museum first time there..

Traci Laffin

This is an awesome museum for adults and children. I took my second grade class to the future city lab and we created environmentally friendly housing solutions. I can't wait to take my own family to this museum.

Laura Tierney

Great museum experience. Docent was extremely knowledgeable.

Nejc Haberman

Very modern and interactive way of going through the most historical moments of NYC. Go and check a short video in a small cinema in the ground floor.

Charlotte Minor

The staff is awesome. I learned more about New York in this museum that I learned in school. I live in Maryland and I travel to New York every summer. Soooo much good history

Boneless Tacos

Really cool museum that has all the history of ny

Sarah Judah

Free for military. Nice, minimalist layout. The husband liked the maps more than anything. They show locations of population groups and growth over time. Some hands on activities. The actual history of New York section was small, I was expecting more. The staff was nice.

Yusef Jeffries

My daughter's class went there on a field trip and everyone had a great time.

James Fattic

While the 'artifacts' are limited, the history of the city is very well presented. The current displays include the challenges of sanitation and disease prevention as the city's population density increased and the challenges Jackie Robinson faced as the first black in MLB. Protests associated with the inclusion of the diverse population and civil liberties throughout NYC history is shown through many photographs and short films. I would recommend beginning with the 30 minute comprehensive film shown in the lower level - great introduction. The first show was at 10:20, then 11, and so on.

Jeff Burns

Extremely interesting view of the development of New York through several epochs. Great city maps and displays. Strong short films. Some of the exhibits are a little too surface, but overall very educational and enjoyable. The building is also beautiful.

Krisztina Nagy

Lots of information about New York. Very nice museum but what I didn't like, it's actually free to go in but they expect you to pay $20 per person as donation before you even get to go in. I don't think it's appropriate to do so. I preferred to pay after I've seen everything and I want to decide how much I want to give.

Joanne Pearson

Wonderful experience walking around this museum! there is so much to see, definitely recommend visiting

Qternocq

I loved the movie they show. Very informative and entertaining.

Geoff Fabron

A very interesting museum about the city and how it developed. Very open and honest about the problems, issues and prejudices over time. A lot of information to take in but fascinating.

Samantha Anthony

Amazing museum! Lots of very well done exhibitions that include a variety of formats - video, audio, interactive, even one where you can cycle! Much bigger than I expected with 4 floors of exhibits. Highly recommend checking this one out. Suggested donation is $18 for adults but you can pay what you wish.

Leandro Aragonez

Lovely museum and staff was so nice. 5 stars to the lady on the bike section (shame on me that I don't know her name). Super friendly and helpful

Mike Baines

If you are interested in the history if the city this is the place to go. Nice building and cafe too across from Central Park.

Kenneth Dale Jr

Fantastic museum. Shows you the heart and soul of NYC

Julia Mcgregor

Been to NYC several times and have never been here until last weekend. What an incredible exhibit. Every visitor should experience this musuem.

Mahir Abrar

The museum has some interesting things but it is rather small. In July 2019, one of the exhibits was also closed for renovations. There is a gif shop and cafe inside. The architecture of the building itself is beautiful. Entry is free for CUNY students and there are discounts for seniors.

Marco Venturini

Wonderful museum. The short movie is very interesting to understand the history of NYC

Justin Sathue

It was fun to look back into the history of the city. I woulda loved to learn more about Brooklyn Queens Day and the history of all the parades. Great place to visit. You can't see everything in one day. Staff are very helpful and explain anything you want. Pricing is perfect.

Christina V. østergaard

It was absolutely a great experience, and make sure to go through all the historys on the inter active screens. Loads of great material, that made us get really close to the way people lived when my great grandfathers brother lived in Brooklyn, we could clearly see why his first born died only 1 month old. 1892 was a dirty time in Brooklyn streets.

Peter Butler

They have an excellent exhibit on activism right now that everyone should check out. Museum is also a portable with only a $5 entrance fee per person in my group reservation. Easy to navigate and the bookstore was fairly affordable as well.

Avinash Patil, MANS

Experience to know the grouth of your city like New York, United States of America.

Robert Koch

Interesting exhibits. A bit small

carille1

I entered the museum on a whim after seeing that there was an exhibit on modern day Native New Yorkers. The exhibit was 1 room, with mostly videos. I was not impressed. In general, it's a small museum that doesn't go into real depth on their exhibits. There were no photography credits in the activist exhibit. I was curious to know who took some of the photos. There is an interactive portion to the Union exhibit was was unique. All in all, I wasn't impressed.

Charles Zorn

Went to a concert there with my dad. Was magnificent!

Venkat S

If you are history buff and/or have interest on how human cities evolve, you will love it...400-500 years of history in 3 floors.

Op.Dr. Mert Demirel

Maybe not in the first of your bucket list but a modern and contemporary middle size museum worth to visit

Gladys Garcia

This is my go-to museum. One of the best in the city. If you're visiting NYC, this is a great museum to see. You'll learn a lot about New York and its people. Just remember, you don't have to pay the suggested fee, $18.00 as of this writing. Pay what you can.

Michele Davis

It was Enjoyable, and I found it to be very informative of our great City.

Roshane Rowe

Loving that Professional Development that I had here, I will definetly come again. I will tell my coworkers about them. Also. I will try to arrange a field trip, for the galleria tours. Amazing!

Jennifer Allen

I had very good memories in this museum. If you in here, you would experience the impressive collection of artifacts, memorabilia, history of all peoples of NYC, and of course a fine gift shop which you must see for being so adorable and very nice to collect. In this museum, staffs were so helpful too pointing you in the right direction. Also entrance is free especially when you're 18 years old an above. I would love to recommend my friends in this museum.

Steven Hovis

Went to see Pride exhibits. Which were thoughfully laid out. I thought there would be more... Walked through 2 exhibits. Then was drawn into a 3rd - unrelated exhibit (the antropology of the bicycle and its uses in NYC) was an appreciated breath of fresh air! $18 "suggested"

Rémi Pichon

As you could have guess from the title, you get to learn about the birth of the city and its many transformation which explains the nowadays city. It's a good idea to mix this museum with the Transportation Museum in Brooklyn

Dylan McGinty

Great exhibits depicting the long history of NYC! It was not too crowded, either. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for something to do on a cold winter day.

Murat Çolak

Great exhibit, great staff. Must go!

Mickey Dunne

Good layout on the history of NYC, I recommend taking the tour which offers even more information to add to the photographs. The other exhibits change from time to time and can often be interesting as well.

lolzozo 4423

Awesome history. Nice artifacts. I learned more history here than i did at school

Gary Levenson-Palmer

One of our favorites in New York.. Always so wonderful exhibits.

Matthias Schmelzer

Fascinating history!! Very comprehensive. If u got time (3 hours) to go see it all, it's definitely worth it!

Noah Zimmermann

Cool museum with interactive exibitions.

Wanpo Tutu

Fantastic museum. Great preservation on new york city history and activist movement

Θούκης Στ

Small museum but very interesting. I lost my phone over there and they searched for it all over the place so I can have it back. Thank you!

Camille Daley

Wonderful Museum to visit!! Beautiful exhibits!

The Greatest Show On Earth

Very interesting museum. There were a bunch of different exhibits on different things like Corduroy, Biking, and Jackie Robinson. Exhibits change from time to time so make sure to check the website to see what their current exhibits are. Admission is approximately $18 but its free for people 19 years old and under, people with an NYCID card membership, and so on. After you're done, relax in Central park.

Leesa Yim

It's a good museum to visit to get the history of that is now NYC. I recommend you start the visit with the timescape video that's played every 40 mins on the ground floor. I enjoyed the city workers and activism exhibit as well as "NY at it's core" exhibit, all very informative. I get to enjoy the city more knowing it's history. Another plus, it's definitely less crowded than other big museum, so one can take time to really absorb the museum.

Riley Kellogg

Great museum!! Fascinating exhibits on a many aspects of the history of NYC. Informative and fun educational programs. Terrific staff. What's not to love??

Yolanda Del Mundo

The first time i visited this museum, i said to myself, there's more to learn and get myself acquinted with if i so decide to live a good life in the city of NY. The arrangements and the subject matters are so enticing, you need to come back in order to satisfy one's curiosity of how this city developed into the most bustling, thriving, vibrant, progressive and promising urban center in the world. Be informed, this should be a must-visit itinerary.

Clay Pawlak

Really great place to see unique stuff. Their collection of antiques was osm and all the stuff was well displayed . The guide was also helping and the atmosphere was calm and enthusiastic.

Sydney Kellington

This is the best museum in NYC (and i've done all of the major ones)! If it's one of your first trips to NY and your wanting to learn more about the history of the city and it's people, this is the place to go! Their changing exhibits are great and very well put together. The whole building is clean and well thought out. Admission is pay what you want, but the suggested $18 is very reasonable. Staff was all very friendly and informative. Highly recommend this museum.

I think I've enjoyed the museum the most because of two things: 1. I love New York 2. Without the city of New York, there was no reason to have a museum, right?! just think about it, what will be the exhibitions about l? what would be the underline that connects all the art work. I think also my sister (which is big new York fan ) will agree with me

Fantastic place, green unique collection, you need time to see everything, and most often you skim. Gorgeous garden and lake around with a central jet fountain

Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Video downstairs is an excellent brief history of NYC which is supplemented by artifacts and greater detail elsewhere in the museum. The Kubrick exhibit is a excellent exhibit as was the Asian living photo exhibit. The germ exhibit didn't appeal to our group, but those that came for it seemed to enjoy it. The small cafe in the museum had nice selection and was popular. Prices were what you would expect for a cafe within a museum. Overall, worth a visit especially as an alternative to the big museums.
