I'm really glad I visited this place. I learned a lot from the featured exhibit (currently "The Incomplete Araki") and their other exhibits such as "The Sex Lives of Animals" and "Object XXX". This is not a "porn gallery" but a place to respect artistic sexuality and to learn about the sex lives of humans (and animals). There is a lot of commentary throughout the Museum about the artworks on display to give you a better understanding of the subject matter. Yes, there IS sex. If you aren't expecting sex, don't go. Keep in mind that it's a museum. It's a collection of art exhibits that revolve around something completely taboo. Like I said before, if you're not open to that then don't go! The bouncy boob room was closed for repairs when I went, but I still spent several hours here and enjoyed all of the galleries. Plus, there's a bar!!!

I had a very fun and unique experience at the museum of sex. It was very clean and organized. All the associates were nice and friendly. I went with a friend and towards the end when we reached the game room they let her watch the movie when she had a zero balance on her game card to see it! I thought that was very nice. Would definitely love to go back!

Was a really awesome experience right up til the end. Loved the history of stag films and punk and was so excited to enter Superfunland. Once you reach Superfanland, it’s all pay your way for fun and games. I wish it was better explained by staff or I could have just upgraded my ticket right in the beginning. Overall it was super fun but I do wish the pricing was more straight up.

I decided to go on a Tuesday, I payed $17 to get in. I’m not going to bother complaining about it being expensive because this is NYC and you should expect that here. However, the museum was definitely smaller than I’d expected. There are three floors, but each individual floor doesn’t have that much. What I saw was nice, there were some interesting art exhibitions and there was an exhibition of old and modern sex toys. Like a lot of other reviewers have pointed out, a lot of the people working there are rude and stuck up. I definitely got an obnoxious hipster vibe from the place. There was this one dude there who had a man bun, he was a total pr*ck. I doubt he gets laid. Kind of ironic since he works at a sex museum. Anyway, I recommend this place.

This place offers some pieces of history related to the 20th century and how New York and the world started breaking taboos and creating art out of sexual needs and lust. Thats kind of interesting because it allows you to see how things were difficult for them back then and how they struggled to reach what we see today. Except that the museum in itself is not well organized, you cant really relate between the different levels of exhibitions, and you for sure will need to pay extra money to see extra parts of the museum. The entry ticket itself is not cheap, so i dont know if it worth the struggle or not.

I expected more going into this. My first time in this museum. I thought it would be interactive and more hands on being that it’s a sex museum as I have seen many ads on trains and all. But it was basically photographs of sexual women something that you can find online and look at. The Akita collection or whatever that was called. Nothing mind blowing. Also the bouncy castle was a separate charge of 3$ which I thought was quite unnecessary if it’s in the same part why charge extra? And that’s about it. The sex shop was fun to look at and touch but super pricey. I would not recommend it to spend the money to just look at photos. I was hoping for more mind blowing experience.

Great place for a first date, might not be the best place for an older crowd. The animal exhibits are the best part and VERY informative. Free coat check, also with a bar off the to side that you can go to before or after you are done with museum.

This is a unique experience and a great time to say the least. Lots of cool inventions... the bicycle. The booby bounce is really fun too. You only get a limited amount of time but it’s definitely a fun aspect and event in itself. The edibles are funny and not bad actually! There is humor, truth, and fun to be found here. We spent quite some time perusing everything. It really is a gem and a wonderful place to tour in the city.

This place is well worth the visit. It was fun and interactive! While the price is reasonable for NYC, only bummer was the really cool stuff cost extra money and I did feel the original cost should have been enough to do everything. The gift shop is also just as fun as the rest of the museum! Do not bring your kiddos to this one!

The Museum of Sex was a great experience, and I highly recommend going to the Super Funland. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout my time there. Just be prepared to see the exhibit and read a lot before getting to Super Funland, I didn’t know to expect that at all. I think that have more hands-on activities, or hands-on exhibits would create a much better experience for everyone, especially people like me who don’t want to read that much. If you haven’t been to the museum of sex, what are you waiting on?

Multiple exhibits closed during our visit. Seemed expensive for what we got to see. The few rooms open were primarily photographs/magazine covers. We didn’t get to see hardly anything that’s advertised on different sites.

Not sure of the owners definition of sex, but I sure did go in excited, and came out EXTREMELY disappointed. The only exhibit I enjoyed were your every day sex toys, and exploring the various new toys, and the animal exhibit. Other than that, I couldn't quite put my finger on why this was called the Museum of Sex. Definitely not even worth the $20 price tag. If you feel the need to go, like if you just really want something to do, go to groupon first.

If you love to read and/or have some money to blow, this can honestly be quite the fun and informative experience. It's very promising, and I'm sure perfect for some, but there's too much wrong with it. First of all, there's too much reading for 99% of the people there. You can just see every one struggling with how much there is to read. So many people there were just skimming and hurrying through the exhibits hoping for something different. Secondly, it's already quite expensive at $20 a ticket, and then you have to pay quite a steep price to enjoy any of the more interactive parts of the museum or to try one of their incredibly over priced drinks. So really, if you want to enjoy the more fun aspects of the museum, you're probably spending close to $40 a person for a museum most people are speed walking through while they stop at the occasional video screen or the one station they were willing to read through.

It was 20$ per person and extra for the tiny bouncy house. All the pictures people posted with the animals looked awesome so i asked where they were and they took them out. Not sure why they would do that but? Literally only 2 floors with the most boring stuff in the world. Only good part was the gift shop. So disappointed drove 2 hours just for this.

My girlfriend and I visited the Museum of Sex last weekend and were both thoroughly impressed. They have some fascinating exhibits and I found myself learning more than I could have imagined. Also enjoyed the Punk Lust exhibit. The staff were friendly and helpful to patrons - at least that was our experience. Definitely a museum everyone should visit at least once. Maybe more frequently for the shop alone!

On my solo trip to NYC I came across a discount code from my hotel for MOS and decided to use it. I had no idea it would be one of the highlights of my trip as the staff were so amazing and welcoming. They allowed me more time on some of the activities as I was alone and made me feel so comfortable. One of the best experiences I’ve had in a museum down to the way the staff treated not just myself but all the visitors. Unforgettable experience! I urge anyone to check out this museum. The installations are really cool and always changing so I can’t wait to see what they’ve got on on my next visit to NYC!!

NOTHING in the museum has anything to do with sex except one small room with old sex dolls before you get to the bounce thing. Wow. Absolute waste of money. The exhibits weren’t exhibits at all it was all old cheap things put up on walls that had nothing to do with sex. Poor set up, the place was overheated and trashy. The customer service is ABSOLUTE TRASH and all employees are rude as all hell except the bounce house employees (those were all super nice and very hospitable). You will spend your money on walking around a building with a couple things pinned on a wall and nothing else. There is nothing exciting or fun to do at all. It is probably the worst thing I’ve ever spent money on. PLEASE DONT BE LIKE ME, ALWAYS READ REVIEWS BEFORE SPENDING YOUR MONEY. I regret not doing that 100%.

This place was hilarious, my partner and I had so much fun seeing the things people made in the name of "art" and learning a bit of history in the process. The staff seem to have fun with their job, so expect a lot of clever innuendos, after all you're walking into the sex museum after all.

Just recently went here and it wasn’t worth the money. I think there’s too much focus of a carnival theme more than a museum. My experience from the exhibits in August 2018 was wayyyy better and more informative. I know some museum set ups change seasonally, but I was disappointed.

I was looking forward to exhibits which covers sex&gender issues (how gender politics evolved, gradual acceptance of the LGBTQ community etc) or at least fun "did you know" facts. But no, it was boring af, it wasnt all photogenic either (for those who doesnt care less of the content and more of its "instagram-ability").

We came here during labour day weekend from Canada and it was one of our 4 choices on our explorer pass because we were so excited for it given its uniqueness. Their queue management was almost non existent and then the ticket girl was incredibly rude to us about our confusion. We are trying to figure out which kiosk to go to since we had explorer passes. The girl rudely yells at us to come to her but we can't even see her, and then rudely mutters 'Jesus Christ'. Then we find out all the arcade stuff is not included with the regular ticket. Exhibits themselves are pretty interesting and all the other staff were really helpful and nice, but the first impressions left a bad taste in our mouth. - carrie

They swap out exhibits every so often, each time we came we learned something new about society. Think of it as an informative museum more so than sex shop. However there is a shop on the first floor open to the public if you're into that

Very cool museum and a fair price for NYC! It was different than I expected but still a great exhibit. I learned a lot of interesting things. I enjoyed all the bright colors throughout the museum. Museum of Sex is clean and interactive. My favorite parts was a tunnel with the bright, trippy colors, the Booby Bounce House, and the giant slide! The gift shop was a lot of fun too. If you grab a drink at the bar then I highly recommend the cucumber infused vodka soda!

I like the Museum of Sex, a lot. I think it differs from most people's expectations because it is eclectic, joyful, controversial at times, and explorative. I recently went with one of my best friends to see the Raw Lust exhibit, on sex in the punk era, and it mixed music, fashion, to Goldman and Westwood's input on feminism and rebellion for the sake of it. It also featured a great, absolutely wonderful and beautiful exhibit of camp photography on the second floor. It's a good place to get lost in, to discover. It definitely has some room to grow, but it feels Flatiron in NYC is a great home for it and it doesn't intend to be anything but the NYC I know and love - interesting, gritty, and irreverential.

Don’t waste your time or money. This was an expensive walk through three or four rooms with very little of interest. Highlight was a couple of punk band posters. Museum ends by funnelling you into a room of tacky arcade machines in attempt to take even more of your money for nothing. Would suggest giving it a big miss.

A lot of unique and thought-provoking exhibits currently that cover some history of sexual expression and the sex industry really well. I was really happy to see the James Bidgood: Reveries exhibition (which seems to be on view later than 9/8/19 as listed on their website) but enjoyed several other exhibits as well including Punk Lust. The museum has a pretty decent amount of space across the three floors dedicated to it. Super Funland touches on some interesting facets of carnivals and has a lot of unique and well-made carnival games that would make for a really great party or even a simple outing with friends. I was really glad that I visited. Although all of the staff was helpful and considerate, I especially appreciated the help of Dan and Morgan. Thanks for helping us really enjoy the exhibition!

This museum shares art exhibits that explore sex and gender. Very interesting with many mediums represented, an exhibit on the mating habits of animals, and displays of various objects relating to sex throughout the years. Very thorough gift shop.

I went to the museum and was completely blown away by both the esthetics and the exhibitions. There wasn’t a single moment when you didn’t hear someone giggling over an image or video. the photography exhibition of James Bidgood was true eye candy. the Stag film exhibition was oddly informative and interestingly curated because it guided the viewer effortlessly through out the space. It was educational , but most importantly FUN. SuperFunLand is a total treat so don’t skip the arcade card because you will regret it! I strongly recommend this for a group activity and/or a fun date.

We went here during our trip to NYC and so happy that we did. Each floor had a different experience and was amazing. You go at your own pace and no one is there pressuring you or watching you look at everything on the walls. There are videos to pictures to arcade games and slides. My favorite floor was the punk era floor, as I really enjoyed that genre. You're able to take pictures inside and when you're done, you end at a sex shop. Honestly, it's the perfect adult date night you can ask for. I've done nothing but rave about it to all of my friends. I look forward to my next trip to NYC to visit again. This was the highlight of my NYC trip

I had an amazing time over there I always love to go there when I go to New York which is like only once a year. This time when I went I had brought a product that the workers had told me was going to be $40 but when I went to pay for it at the cash register it came to $65. I didn’t say anything about it but the main reason I am giving one star is because when I got home and charged the je joue bullet it would not turn on. I charged it all night and it said to press the plus sign until it turns on but it doesn’t. I don’t live in New York and I don’t think there’s any way for me to go all the way back there to return it I’m just disappointed I spent all that money for a product that doesn’t work.

This was a major disappointment. The exhibits are very basic; one room was just a bunch of photos and I couldn't even see the relevance of any of it. The bouncy house was fun but I'm not sure it's worth an extra $3.50 for less than 15 seconds of jumping. They also have a 4D presentation that was cool but they also charge extra for that. I'm just tryna figure out what the $20 is for cause I definitely did not get my money's worth. I'd definitely recommend skipping it.

I wish they would do more special galleries as smaller museums often do but given how specific the topic is, it will do. The displays are not as hands on as some people believe them to be.

I went here about 4 years ago and had a mediocre experience, but the improvements to the museum and the current exhibitions are amazing! I highly, highly, highly recommend returning if you were disappointed in the past. I spent 4 hours there last night and probably could have spent another hour or two if the bar was still open and it wasn't so late! Also the game room was a blast. Cannot say enough good things about my trip yesterday.

My wife and I went for the first time and it was so not worth the money. It’s a bit pricy for what you get. At the end we did buy something that was worth the money but the tickets should not be that much. Take some videos and a bunch of pictures and put on a wall and say here’s a exhibit you’ll enjoy, look like a kids project. Wasn’t even that informative. Add more talking experience and more interactions, show people how to put a condom on.

I visited the Museum of Sex while on vacation in NYC. Very interesting museum and its floors are thematic. I hate I won't be here to see what "Super Fun Land" looks like but I highly recommend this museum to everyone 18+. They also have a shop where you can buy things that will help you explore or enhance your sex life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Decided to visit while in the area. Paid 18 per person due to construction/some exhibits closed. I definitely learned a lot while there. Shame more exhibits weren't available. Ended up buying a book from the gift shop. Nice touch with the bar area as well. I'd like to visit again when it's fully up and running.

HORRRRIIBLLEEEE they robbed me and my friend. The website says they close at 11pm but when we called they said they closed at 9pm. Obviously we weren’t aware of this and figured we wouldn’t be able to make it so we asked for a refund. One of the associates told us we’d have to contact their supervisor and gave us their email which turned out to be FAKE. We called multiple times the next day and left a voicemail and still never heard back from them. AVOID!!! AVOID!! AVOID!!

I flew up for a 3-day trip from Florida and made sure that The Museum of Sex was a special stop! I didn't know what I was walking into, but I was excited all the same! If you're a little nervous around sex paraphernalia, the lobby may be slightly intimidating. But once you enter the museum it's a lot easier to take in! The museum is divided into different levels (super skinny and old NYC building, ofc) and each level is a different theme throughout the history of sex. Each exhibit was extremely detailed and highly educational. There were videos, props, photos, and interactive exhibits. The staff was friendly throughout the entire museum and made my experience enjoyable. There's even a miniature arcade at the end where you can bounce in a breast-themed bounce house, play a claw machine for stuffed toys, and play skee ball to win a souvenir crown! If you're looking for a highly pleasurable way to spend an hour or two, this is the perfect place to slide through!

Very disapointed by the “museum” there was 3 small exhibits thats had a limited scope. There was a bouncy room they charge a extra 3.50 for had a 45 min wait which they never indicated upon buying the ticket. The main purpose of this place is a sex shop in the front and tourist trap.

It was ok. I expected something mind blowing. The only thing I liked was the bounce house - which needs to be replaced as it is all patched and deflated, and kind of soft to really bounce on it properly. There was another nice thing - a cube where you enter with your partner and it tells you the level of chemistry you have. Other than that just some stuff on the walls. Souvenir shop has some cool lingerie.

As a Sexuality major I HIGHLY recommend this museum, doesn't have much, however, it's perfect for going alone or as a group of 3 or 4. Dont know why it has medium reviews, but it's a good way to educate yourself a bit with some of the history they have there. When I move to NY this will MOST DEFINITELY be a place that I would LOVE to work and be proud of it. Staff members were very nice and helpful too. THANKS YOU ALL!!

Beautiful! Tasteful and really a intriguing experience. Loved the first exhibit so much. Truly beautiful. Didn't do the bouncy room or the VR but still had a great time! Super nice staff! Knowledgeable and talkative. The animal room was odd but informative. The Vice room was probably the most underwhelming but still beautiful and ultimately amazing. The films were odd but in my realm. Loved exploring the edge of morality and sexual openness with my partner.

Museum is underwhelming. If you don’t take the time to read through their website, you will be severely disappointed. A few rooms with artwork (not containing a single POC). If you’re looking for diversity, skip the museum and head to the gift shop. Gift shop and museum are night and day, the employees in the gift shop are animated and seem to have fun while helping guests. I had the pleasure of chatting with Sarah and Yashira, both lovely ladies. Sarah was great with helping my 2 friends and I pick out the perfect toys! Yashira was a pleasure to chat with and provide information with what to see & do in the neighborhood.

I went to the Museum of Sex for the first time last month to check out Superfunland. Literally every worker we ran into was super welcoming and helpful, something that can be rare in NYC. The gift shop has cool novelty items and the exhibits are very insightful. Superfunland was exactly that, super fun! The rooms are interactive and the workers help make it fun. They also make for cool photo ops so be sure to take lots of pictures. As a South Brooklyn girl, I loveddd seeing Coney Island incorporated a few times in the pop-up. I definitely recommend stopping by with friends!

I loved this place! It was only $17 to get in and I got to see so much stuff! The art is beautiful and I love how they have interacting sculptures that we can touch and understand whats going on. I enjoyed the bouncy house which was $3 a person for a 5 minute jump. The gift store is wild they have so many items and souvenirs. WOW! This interactive experience is colorful exciting and full of great history. Perfect for a date or night on the town with friends. Be sure to slide down to the bar on your way out of the exhibit for drinks with dirty names ;)

My wife and I visit this business once a year as we recreate our first date for the last five years and we typically spend 500+ in toys on the way out.. NOT THIS YEAR!! The exhibits have always been lacking, but this year an employee made sure we’d never revisit. As a business man myself I would say she was the face of the company. As we entered the exhibitions I jokingly asked her for ID. Her aggressive response and extreme combativeness was inexcusable and way over the top. Don’t waste your time.

I don't know how you can make a sex museum boring - but they pulled it off. Despite the name, there's really not much in the way of traditional museum exhibits, so if you were hoping to learn more about the history of sex toys, or contraceptives, or kinks, you'll have to look elsewhere. Go to the math museum a few blocks away instead, trust me.

I would say skip it. Not a lot to see 2 of 5 rooms were just 1 artists. The bounce house was fun but they only let you in for a very short time even if there is no one behind you in line. I agree with other reviews that the gift shop is probably the best part.

Not what I expected. The atmosphere made sex more of a spectacle than a study. Definitely didn't feel like a safe space, I heard many people making loud rude comments about the exhibits. On top of all that the layout is confusing and cramped, often with poorly lighting that makes it difficult to read the information. Not worth the $22 ticket, especially considering I should've gotten the discounted student price. There's better sex positive art and community on Tumblr, and its free.

I wish I would have read the reviews before going here. Three super tiny exhibits all on separate floors that are basically full of boring things pinned to the walls. Not very informative, not inclusive, and barely about the history of sex. This should definitely be a free exhibit just based on the content alone. So not worth the $23. They make you pay extra for the bouncy house, that I didn't even get to go into because the line was never ending and barely moving. The website makes this place look way more interesting than what it actually is. Please don't waste your money, I agree with the rest, this is definitely a tourist trap. Its essentially a sex shop with a couple of rooms on top that they needed to fill, so they pinned a bunch of boring non informative pictures the wall and called it a museum to get some extra cash. Do not go here, I promise you will be severely disappointed.

It was such a rip off- $20 for 3 floors and the bounce house was $3.50 extra for like 2 mins of jumping. The museum didn't flow well at all. The first 2 floors are pretty much the same thing (like 17th century looking drawings and paintings) and then all of the sudden its punk. The punk floor was pretty cool but they really just showcased a bunch of magazines and t shirts- but the actually information on this floor was cool. In concept the museum is a great idea but very very poor execution. Don't waste your money on the museum- just enjoy the giftshop... i wish i had
