This Museum is classified in the category of Modern art museum.
MoMa PS1 was a great opportunity for me to visit Long Island City and I was not deceived. The selection of contemporary art masterpieces is very interesting (strange sometimes). If you’re a student visiting from abroad, don’t forget your student ID to get a discount at the entrance. There’s a Citi Bike Station very close so biking there is a good option. Take into consideration that you can’t film and may not be able to photograph some interactive artworks.
The events here are usually worthwhile.
A Great Museum for Contemporary Art. Brilliant Curators
The MOMA in Manhattan has been closed, so Idecided to visit this MOMA instead. - Not very crowded when I went on a Saturday midday - I was expecting a different kind of art, but I guess b/c the exhibits are changed every so often and it’s new art. I’m not an “art person”, so don’t take my word for it. - There was a bar area that wasn’t open but from some of the photos within Google, it looks lively!
Luckily we went during UNIQLO Friday’s as it really was ridiculous. Don’t waste your time.
My favorite museum ever.
Unfortunately, the museum was closed when we arrived. They were preparing the next exhibition. But the MoMA organized guided tour around the building to discover all the piece of art on the wall (painted by various artists when the primary school became an extension of the well known museum MoMA).
There was no exhibition when visited, Went for the guided tour of the museum and it was quite amazing, full of stories. The room with the open roof is quite impressive. Highly recommended
My 7 year old and I have a strong passion for art. We were extremely excited to visit this museum due to the fact that I visited MoMA PS1 when I was around his age. As we went to pay the entrance fee I was informed NY residents received a discount- awesome! Prior to visiting the museum, I talked to my child about acceptable behavior; speaking in a low tone, cannot get too close to the art, and could not put his hands on anything as well. Understood. We began walking around, enjoying what we were seeing, and then we entered a specific room with art more appealing to him. My son came "too close" to one of the exhibits and we were rudely warned about keeping our distance. Understood. We moved on to another piece and the same gentleman once again approached my child, at an uncomfortable distance, and told him that he needed to keep his distance. As a mother of a well behaved child, I became frustrated. We moved out of the room and moved on to the next. My friend whom was accompanying us whispered in my ear that we were being followed, and that was enough for me to leave. I'm extremely disappointed in the way the staff handled the situation ultimately discouraging my son from wanting to visit museums in the future. It is safe to say this museum is not kid friendly and we will not be returning.
Hot... not comfortable
Went for PS1 Warm up and it was a blast. I would consider going early and on a more relaxed day. Buy several drink tixs at once instead of waiting on the other line for drinks (this will make sense when you are there). The vibe was slightly more "bro" than expected. They have platforms to dance on luckily because it's hard to dance gravel.
It was lit
They have many experimental art work. Some times I feel like better than MoMa in Manhattan
Love this casual contemporary art museum. There were union members on strike outside and it only reminded me if the ridiculous wealth disparity in the art world. It's madness how the rich galleries and museums take advantage of those who are the support people.
We were very excited to go to the MoMA with our family who came all the way from Japan. We arrived to rude staff who ended up ruining our visit and we left before we even got through the whole museum. Don’t waste your time or money. The staff is supposed to represent MOMA, a great name in the art world, but the way they treated my children and the way they talked to me (more like yelled at me) was unacceptable.
Do not forget the James Turrell installation.
Interesting Museum.. specially the library..you'll find mysterious and exchange books that you actually can buy.
Always bustling with activities, Moma PS1 can be whatever you make of it. I’ve been their for their summer DJ series and for their Halloween party (which had some of the best costumes I’ve ever seen). Always excellent performers and a eclectic crowd. Like any outdoor music space, it can get a bit crowded, but it is always a good time.
We are sitting in the courtyard enjoying beer and a nice conversation at the book fair, 2019. When suddenly there was an auditory ambush by a teenager with his saxophone. The sounds he was making were indescribably unpleasant. Rapid, alternating, alarm-like incessant sharp, jumpy/ mismatched pitches at the highest end of any pursuable sound scale. His performance halted all conversations forcing us to listen to that. Art is supposed to make you feel, but that crosses the line with the purpose of an art and book fair, that is to connect and talk with other present artists. I still love Moma Ps1, of course. Other people might disagree with me, and it’s ok. We see art though the eyes of the soul, anyway.
Exciting experimental art. It's what I miss about art school brought to life. Worth it to see if you are interested in "outside the box" type ideas.
Cool concept...I unfortunately went at a time where there were no exhibits. But took the tour of the place. which was pretty interesting.
Excellent artist selection, their always changing, super nice place!
Always interesting to attend the warm-up parties and visit the galleries at the same time.
Quite a few unique painting , very spacious environment as well and if you have love for art you'll certain fall in love with each piece
Contemporary art is totally worth your time. When I was at PS1 on my last visit I overheard someone say, “Sometimes art feels reductive and repetitive.” To that I say, yes it can be. And that is what’s wonderful about art in general. PS1 is an extension of MoMA that tends to show more experimental artists and programming. I love it. This time I went for the artists ball later on a Friday night. It was less crowded than I thought, which made the trip really nice. My guess is that the rain kept people home. I went for the Bruce Nauman exhibition. It took up nearly the whole museum, with exceptions for the well curated art book shop and a ceramics sale on the top floor. There was also a large white geodesic dome in the courtyard filled with holiday goers, loud music, and cocktails. It was a low key vibe with good lighting. They use this for parties all season. It’s a good spot. The building is an old public school. The stairwells are small, stone, and brick. Some have wire cages around them with Kara Walker stencils on the walls. There is a great cafe that’s a little expensive but tasty. The book shop has a great collection of artists books and theory books. They also offer an artists annual membership. You simply need to show your website and an exhibition you’ve been in.
Went to a Halloween event here. Really cool space for live music and performances.
Modern art museum. Good price-free for LIC residents.
It was our first visit as members - we just moved to Greenpoint and thought it would be great to support the local arts. The PS1 building is huge! There were several shows there we really enjoyed. The security situation is totally weird though. There are lots of nooks and crannies, so it is understandable. We’ll go back more and see if we get the same vibe.
I m not an art fun, but this place was super cool.
Great place & check out their special events in the summer, you never can go wrong with this type of events. Highly recommend them!
It's dope. Looks just like every middle school in Queens. James Turrell work is relaxing/lovely when the room isn't full of people talking (or, at events, drunk 20somethings).
Had a good time exploring "Come Together". bought tix in advance, so getting in wasnt a problem; they seemed to have issues organizing the number of ppl queueing for tix purchase. Inside, they were missing some guiding signs: went up a couple stairs only brought to an usher who asked us to go back down and come up another staircase - did not have an issue exiting that original staircase, passing a different (rotated) usher - seems there was conflicting understanding... still happy to be there! Lotsa great labels, DFA, Rough Trade,..
I got a chance to visit one of many events last year that set up at the museum, the experience on the organizer set up for print matter: the NY art book fair 2018 was great, compacted, transform museum to the fair grounds which was great will revisit this year again and probably will also join the other concert events that will occur here at end of August for the Warm up : The PS1 MoMA always attractive place in Long island City for tourist that miss opportunity to visit MoMA at 53rd at due to close this summer this museum free for NYC resident, great for family & kids
More unusual exhibits than the main building, very enjoyable. Much less crowds too. Consider stopping here during peak times for a more enjoyable experience, unless something at the main building is a must see.
This place doesn’t need any recommendations. Must visit for all art lovers.
Though every site we read said it was open, we were very disappointed to find that it was closed for the entire week while prparingbfor a Book Fair. Though we later realized the website did in fact mention the closing, it was not prominent enough to notice.
Went for a after school trip with my daughter and i loved it. Great experience and exhibits.
Top openair location to party!
My favorite museum in NYC by a long shot. Be sure to check out the bookstore while you’re there, an incredibly curated selection. My favorite exhibition is James Terrell’s Meeting, the coolest room I’ve ever been inside. If you can, go there when the sun is setting.
Very cool space in an old public school (as you may have guessed) the classroom sized rooms give room to individually experience each artists work. Catch the "warm up" series on Saturdays in the summer to see concerts in the courtyard.
Went there for the first time last week and it immediately became one of my favorite places to go in New York, especially since it's free for residents! Not only were all the exhibits diverse, original, and innovative, by artists and groups of all backgrounds, but the permanent installations, in this repurposed school building, make the experience of just exploring the halls and stairways feel dreamlike and surreal. Definitely wouldn't discourage coming here on psychedelics.
Got in free with my MoMA ticket and it was definitely worth going. The exhibits were quite strange but undeniably interesting. One exhibit featured a room almost like a sauna, but instead of hot it was cold, and the roof of the room had a huge unbelievably black square on it. It looked like a hole into another dimension.
Summer closing party was amazing! Ticket was 30$ and you get unlimited drinks for 4 hours, how about that! Music was ok, dj could be better but the vibe was just perfect. I love the fact you have an openspace with hammocks, music, food, places to chill and the museum to explore!
It was between exhibitions, and a we got a wonderful tour of the building and it’s inherent pieces - great tour and insight
Is free and the building is amazing!
Fun spot for concerts. Can get crowded very quickly though.
Inconsistent security hassled my family in areas or let us freely explore like everyone else. Besides that the space is nice and used well for where it is.
Felt unfinished. But the art was interesting and we enjoyed our time. Came on the free Friday!
Went here for Bruce Nauman! That exhibit was great
Went with a friend. Nearly time for a new exhibition so the front square was in full construction. As a collage artist I appreciated the man who ran after me with two unusual pieces of metal to help with my NYC Collage. The works inside were exceptionally beautiful but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to explore everything. Really too bad for me.
One of my favorite museums, great collection and easily accessible. Pay as you please for some museum goers. Try to snatch tickets for the James Terrel sunset show do it. It's so cool.
Great example of adaptive reuse. An old school turned into modern art masterpiece. Such a wide range of exhibits, installations, and events makes PS1 as dynamic of a cultural institution as it gets. Great excuse to escape Manhattan and see more of New York.
Some fun exhibitions at PS1. Mixed quality, but overall worth a visit on a rainy day if coming from out of town.
Interesting experience for one time.
Perfect. Don't miss MOMA if you are in New York.
Besides those excellent art works, those staff were rude, unprofessional and over sensitive. We were regular museum visitors, we knew what are appropriate behaviors. A bunch of guards standing on your faces and keep reminding “too close” “no touch” makes you feel like in a prison. I would like suggest to avoid this MOMA until the Manhattan MOMA reopens.
The Halloween bash at MoMA PS1 was amazing. First time for me to go to this space and I loved it. Very cool.
Well thought-out and curated. Rotating exhibitions calls for consistency and ability to revisit.
Stupid and poorly organized. Annoying vibe. Credit Card - wristband pairing stations were placed at a logically cretinous position at a high traffic area (people entering and leaving, with you blocking the way in order to pair your wristband with your CC). Why? Vibe - paradise for instagran cloutchasers Security - annoying and overstaffed. You cant stand ANYWHERE for more than 2 seconds without being told where to move or where to go. Go to a club if you want to dance. This isnt a dayger venue. They have the capacity but for some reason not the ability to run a fun, smooth party venue. Plenty of room for improvement in terms of workflow and operations (reflected in survey).
A MUST VISIT WHILST IN NEW YORK!
MoMA PS1 is a thought-provoking museum. It has a number of exhibits from across the world, some of which are interactive. Note: some of these are not for the faint of heart or to those who are uncomfortable with nudity and sexual or graphic material. The museum is located in a somewhat old building, but it adds some character to the exhibits. It is also located just a few blocks away from Vernon-Jackson on the 7, for easy access.
If you like out of the mainstream art go to MoMA PS1. Have an open mind as to what art is.
As a third generation New Yorker you think you have seen it all but this space is really special. Fun, interesting events. I used to love to check out 5 Points after shows here but sadly that has disappeared.
Oh you go here for the art?!? That's great, most folks seem to go for the parties, especially in the summer time. With alcohol flowing and DJs spinning! Art lovers will certainly appreciate what's inside and some of it is rather good and even interesting but that is my own generalization. Check out the summer parties they are quite fun. Just get there early before it gets too crowded.
Contemporary arts Brilliant building that acts as art as well Take your time Grab something to eat Read / buy some books Must see space Summer time court yard raves
I visited MoMA PS1 for a private members night which was nice but I have to say I was the third oldest person in the museum and I am in my 50's. This really attracts a young crowd, not the usual MoMA crowd in Manhattan. The work is from newer artists and is very edgy and unique. I thought a little too modern bordering on work I might see a third grade class do. One artist from Lebanon whose work was being shown pottery work was a little too much for my taste. I have seen the same work done in Elementary schools. The best thing I can say is if you like the really modern, newer artists this is the museum for you.
Make sure to do the tour which covers the permanent installations in addition to the their current exhibits.
Great art space! Renovated public school gives it a slightly eerie feeling which plays into the artwork. Make sure to stop and view the movie playing in the hole in the flooring and don't dismiss the stairwells. You'll find art in everything.
The Warm-Up party is the only reason it gets a three... the exhibits have always been underwhelming.
Really a gem. An enormous multistory Victorian public school building (1902) abandoned for decades and then restored minimally by artists to house contemporary works. The building itself is worth the trip. And the art even more so.
Big, open, no-frills space with beautifully curated shows. Excellent selection of modern art, especially from female artists. Will be back soon.
Good people and a great atmosphere. Would absolutely revisit this place...
5 starts to the concept, cool artists we’ve met there and the parties. ONE star to the stuff. Walking around the exhibition we felt like in a jail: they’ve been constantly jumping on us with their orders. One guard started screaming “Don’t touch it” when I’ve just pointed at the picture. Another one told my friend not to lean against the empty wall. My friends are lovely looking and very well behaved girls, and I suspect they’ve treated us this way because we spoke a foreign language. Never experienced anything like that coming to MOMA with my American friends. This is a disgrace and a disgusting way to treat people. Your staff would be perfect for Guantanamo Bay.
I don't usually write reviews and especially not bad ones but this time, I deem it pretty necessary. My family and I love art and museums but I have never experienced something as abhorrent as this museum and it's under the name MoMA? This review is no disrespect to the artists, I know art is subjective and art can be anything and we weren't able to see all of it anyways. Regardless, the staff is extremely rude (besides those at the ticket counter). They constantly hound you to keep your distance which is understandable, but they also yell at you if you touch the empty walls and if you're not in a straight line to wait for the other exhibits. Finally, one of the women in charge of monitoring the flow of traffic into the Julie Becker exhibit wouldn't allow our whole family to go in all at once. She insisted on letting other parties of two behind us to go in to fill up the open space, when we were patiently waiting for enough people to come out so we could go in. Note that before this, we had no problem getting in to the other exhibit across the hall, all together. When we asked her why she let in other people go in before us, she said "i had told you that two people could go in, but you said 'these are my kids'", and proceeded to tell us to go home. After that, an argument ensued, which we didn't want to be apart of, where she was very disrespectful and then told us that she was allowed to talk to us in that way because she wouldn't take being disrespected. All the while I was trying to usher my family out of the hall because they shouldn't have the experience this on their first trip to America. When she realized that I was being the adult by walking away, she told my mother to "listen to your children and leave." She obviously wanted to continue arguing with us. We were just trying to get into an exhibit where you work to get us in. Ridiculous. MoMA PS1 needs to teach their staff on how to talk nice or at least decently towards visitors. Overall, just go to a different art museum, there are definitely better ones here in New York.
First time visiting MoMa PS1 and highly disappointed with the encounter we had with one of the employees who was monitoring the traffic flow for one if the exhibits. The employee advised us that due to the limited spacing we would have to wait for everyone to go in. As my family and I were patiently waiting to be instructed to go in, the employee continuously allowed smaller groups to go before us. Once questioned on how she was allowing these small groups to go in ahead of us instead of waiting for the appropriate number needed to come out for our group to go in, the employee gave my mom attitude with a smart comment of “I told you I could let two go in and you decided y’all wanted to go in as a group with your kids”. After an exchange in words in trying to understands the employees reasoning in her strategy, my sister began to maneuver everyone out the exhibit to calm the situation. Instead of allowing the situation to subside the employee continued to pick at it by saying inappropriate comments such as “yeah mom you should listen to you kids and leave”. My sister told the employee we were leaving because she is wrong and her comment is uncalled for. The employee, taking offense of my sisters response told her “you should let the adult things stay between the adults and stay being a kid by staying out of it” (given that my sister is 22 and is obviously the adult in that situation). My brother told her she shouldn’t be talking to people in that manner which then she responded with “I won’t be disrespected” and everything got muffled out because we were walking away. I’m utterly embarrassed that my family from Japan had to encounter that experience. MoMa PS1 is a great art museum, however it was unfortunate that’s our experience was ruined by that employee.
I am not crazy about MOMA Museum had so Many different security companies there They didn't fix that Museum up. I went there I want to work as Security Guard for an event. Changed my mind. They got Unisex bathrooms Dont agree with that. The one in Manhattan is better. Building felt hot.
Free entry Friday evening 4-6. The show are ok. Not too much exhibitions. I figure out I couldn't really appreciate the modern arts. Note that Moma ps1 is in Queens and different from Moma, which closed temporarily.
spent a few hrs there for my wife's bday; there was a record fair & a beautiful exhibit mounted by an australian indigenous ppl film collective (KARRABING film collective) which is well worth seeing but NOT something 1 should have to trek all the way out there for.
Love it. Go there on Saturday if you live in New York.
Free admission for NY residents. The exhibits are a bit strange but overall is a nice place to go if you are around it.
I've got to go to the Warm up event here.. it was a blast i give the event a 4... cuz prices were crazy!!! And went inside to check the exhition out... it was like literally nothing!!! Maybe because of the event.. im not goi g to be hard on them and im rating them with a 4.
Was closed for Reno work until Oct 21.
The good museum to stop by after the Manhattan spot.
Never big crowds and has great exhibits consistently. The admission is free for NYC residents so don't forget your ID when coming here! I've also visited during the summer shows that they have and it's been a great time. I would definitely recommend for friend groups looking to do something together.
Really cool transformation from a public school to a MoMA gallery. Lots of exhibits to browse and Warm Ups in the summer are great. Go!
my toddler loved the cámara-Video installed in the floor.
To cool and casual for my taste, but I've seen wonderful shows at this place, most recently that of Nancy Spero. I think not having the pressure of the Manhattan MoMA to show well established artists, PS1 had been able to introduce rather obscure figures whose works are excellent.
This museum is a good addition to MoMa despite not being as great as MoMa it’s still a nice place to acknowledge some of the art and film collectives gathered within the museums space
The sister museum to the MoMA! This place is always booming with amazing events at reasonable prices (around $15-$20) especially during the summer! With MoMA being closed this summer, this is a great alternative at a great price! Enjoy the look of the old school turned museum and the awesome courtyard with awesome LIC views!
It was a real uncomfortable experience. The museum is hard to navigate as we had difficulty finding the next exhibits. The guards were also very intimidating. Felt more like we were touring a prison more than a museum.
Excellent centre for contemporary art. High quality, great bookshop. Highly recommended
This place/venue is super cool, BUT sound system super disappointing! No excuses! Sorry do something asap!
Utter waste of time. There is no art here, just bits of scraps and things done by kids. Don’t waste your time trekking out of the city for it like we did.
To tell you the truth, I didn’t enjoy art at MOMA Ps1 so as to advertise it, but I extremely enjoyed the museum’s building! It’s an architectural treasure! It’s worth visiting the museum just because of the building it is located in. An amazing truly American style public building - spacious rooms, high ceiling, huge windows with an amazing view on industrial Long Island. Go for it!
Definitely check out the Zheng Guogu gallery
such a great place for summer shows, love living in queens!
I love the building, the B stairs and the basement..
Feel the modern art
Small-ish museum with provocative work. The Young Architects competition is great! Go check out the exhibition and built project that has hammocks.
Not a great exhibit when we went the floors are old school tile uneven not a handicapped easily walk around. They do have elevators for floor to floor. The exhibition was merit worthy.
It's ok. Small, there was nothing set up outside (no outdoor exhibit), most of the 2nd floor was closed, and the restaurant is closed for renovation. There were students having a guerrilla fashion shoot in the boiler room.
I visited the museum just out of curiosity, had no clue of what I was going to find there. Ended up totally loving the visit. Even more than the interesting art pieces and emerging artist, the building is really the best part of the trip! Amazing venue!
I went to one of their “Warm Up” events which take place every Saturday during the summer. It was immensely fun! The music was great, the drinks were good (especially the cocktails in the dinette - I would recommend them over the “college style” wine and beer in the courtyard). It was also cool to wander the museum as part of the party atmosphere. I was probably a little older than the average attendees’ age, but it didn’t matter. Highly recommend giving it a try, it’s certainly a different way to enjoy a museum.
Mixed experience, but one doesn't analyze art one needs to feel it... A good outdoor event in summer. Check out the place for yourself or just to spread the message of art which is...
Do they have a curator at this place? It feels like a very bad BFA thesis show...
Very very nice, the flooring there just gives you a picture of how students used to walk down the hallways.
Hit or miss offshoot of MoMA. Beautiful space and interesting curitorial strategies. Often lesser know artists with a focus on sculpture and video work. Always makes for an enjoyable visit but not something to make a day of.
It's a really nice historic place to visit really quick in 20 minutes
I understand that i Am not an artist or anything close enough to truly understand all those exhibits but there has to be something I’m missing because I did not find the “art” In most of the things I saw in there, there was literally a piece of plywood laying against the wall , I leaned over to read the description in order to try and understand the context of this seemingly common/random item and there was no description... this happened quite a few times and most of the stuff in there is extremely confusing. However there was indeed some very nice pieces and the coffee shop was nice.
The warm up is kinda weird. But the exhibition is good. When it's open.
The atmosphere is very laid back with some of the most beautiful modern arts you will ever see, plus in the summer it's open to an collective group of talented up and coming artist that perform live at MoMA PS1
A very unique museum! Went here with the kids and they also enjoy the collections. Most of them are paintings and sculptures plus some creative objects. They put displays on the wall and on the floor. Very creative. They also have temporary exhibitions It is also part of the NYC ID card free museum so we get here for free. The souvenirs are cute as well.
Amazing space to interact with modern art. Well worth the trip to Queens.
Please please go and visit this museum. Nancy Sperro exhibit is sensational bold and thought provoking. One of the best I have seen in years. Great location, plenty of parking. It is a must visit for all contemporary art lovers.
Art book fair needs a larger space, seriously.
Great place to roam the halls
Worth a trip if you are in the area. Frequent interesting events. Definitely it's own thing and not a mini version of the Manhattan location.
I’ve always heard about this place but to experience it is another story. It is an amazing display of creativity, in how the old school has been repurposed to house art galleries, and their programming is top-notch. Only downside is I don’t live nearby to enjoy the space more.
Lovely space I wish I had more words the compliment how amazing the staff and lay out is. Please visit and enjoy! :-)
Needs more-- maybe went during a time of changing exhibits, but there were only 3 to 4 sets of 6-10 items. Felt sort of gypped. Free for NYC residents, though, so only lost out on paying for visiting in-laws. Most likely would not return or recommend. Best part was the great smells coming from the M Wells dinette!
Went to see the Martinez Brothers. We stayed in the yard. Cant comment on the inside. But the outside space was cool for an edm turn up. Parking was kind of tough but not inpossible.
My Experience in MoMA PS1 was the prospect of it like Museum l love to go anytime I will come back next month and l do like go. Any of these pictures l love it.
A good lineup during WarmUp (June-Labor day) is a day long occasion. Do not miss
Some excellent artists are shown here. Gina Beavers was recently featured. Not in Manhattan but worth the trip to LIC.
Music could have been better
Evidently a really good space but for sure check what’s actually on. Less than 50% was open and I was v disappointed
Trendy and fancy place but lines are extremely long everywhere (restrooms, bars, even for loading your wristband with money). Unfortunately I'm not coming back again
I attended Young Architects Exhibition but had a chance to visit other galleries. I think it is as good as the modern art museum city campus. Metro 7 is the most convenient way to go this place from Manhattan.
Visited a lot of museums but I guess modern art is just not my cup of tea. Some art though were really amazing. But most of them is almost questionable.
A little sad when you visit btw exhibitions, but excellent bookstore.
One of a kind art museum that really encourages you to wander and appreciate works at your own pace.
Awesome place!!!--what a wonderful adventure to sojourn out from Manhattan to hit this extremely compelling and infinitely enlivening place! We've seen such wonderful exhibits and shows here, and are always happy--and grateful--to take the chance to hit PS 1!!!
Interesting and a different art museum experience. Too bad there was a rainy day and lots of constructions so half the galleries were closed..
The staff here is so friendly and gives great vibes... Good sounding music too!!
One floor was open to public. Wish I could of seen more display. Brought two books for reading for granddaughter
Went for Warm up, very cool experience
Good inside, cold outside. Don't fall for contemporary art! It's a trap!
I bartending at their Night at the Museum Springtoberfest event. It was really fun and the food vendors had some delicious options. Didn't get a chance to see all the exhibits they had open that night but the patrons seemed to be enjoying it.
a little strange and experimental as usual, but always fun
To some degree, PS1 is better than MoMA. It gives me a spoon of modern art, then leave me a whole mountain to dig.
Awesome place , I enjoyed walking around feeling like I’m discovering things
Went for a concert and was quite disappointed. The large art installation outside makes it so that unless you're right at the stage, you won't see anything. The sound system is poor as well, and you won't hear much besides thumping bass unless you've fought your way to the front.
Cool museum but I was expecting a lot more. The exhibitions were good but just a few were outstanding. I recommend to visit because is a must on your stay on New York. We went there at 11 am and it was not crowded, really good. The ticket it’s ok, not expensive. I hope to go back in the future and found better exhibitions
Great place for contemporary, vibrant and eclectic art. In the summer they host the Warm Up sessions with live music and a wide range of musicians.
A nice collection of modern art
No comment. Just checking. Thank you
The building itself was the best part of it: a semi derelict school building. I'm not a fan of experimental modern art, but this collection was even below my usually threshold. Didn't enjoy almost anything there. The building was way too hot.
Such a fun place with ever changing line ups and exhibitions. Nice outpost In LIC.
Interesting exhibits. Facility is a little disjointed but well run. Summer architectural exhibit is really neat.
Good place to visit at least once, although nothing specific, it generated some creativity in the mind
Glorified meaningless postmodern trash. Don't waste your money.
We visited it with our 7 an 9yo kids, if course they wouldn't understand it at first but after letting them roam for a bit, they found their own way to discover and enjoy the place! Also, it was the second day of the 'Warmup' event, lucky us!
I went to a craft beer/art event at MoMA PS1 and it was a great time. The art on display was good, but the outdoor area was the highlight - it's a great spacious event space.
Perfect place to visit, specifically during the summer time. (Warm up events) these Warm-up have many different artists singing and also you get to see the galleries of the museum.
Great space & great atmosphere.
The LIC outpost of Moma offers the space and quiet the other Moma can not provide. Edgy, sometimes disturbing exhibitions. Go ther at one of their special night and become part of the PS1 lovers
Look to see if you're interested in the exhibits, there isn't a permanent collection.
Really love this place. They have super fun late-night museum events and summer concerts, with cool concept exhibits and cocktails. General admission is free for all NYC residents! My only concern is how it’s interacting with the locals of Long Island City. Not sure about any community outreach/engagement initiatives they might have, but I fear they’re working to gentrify the neighborhood—and making it inaccessible to people who have lived there long before it started to seem like a trendy part of town.
