What a cool little museum! Dropped by here with my partner on a Sunday afternoon - it was pleasantly busy, but not so much that we felt like we were crowded or in someone else's way. They ask for a $10 donation coming in if you can afford it, but they made it very clear that this is optional; they did ask us to take a survey with demographic info and so on as part of the entry as well. If you have an IDNYC card, you can get a membership to the museum that way, although I don't know what benefit that confers. Anyway, when we visited there were a bunch of different exhibitions in a lot of different media - a handful of sculptures (including one I was very moved by involving a ladder and a cage, about the infamous Sylvia Likens case), a bunch of paintings/drawings/sketches, and quite a lot of photography. Each piece had a little plaque placing it in context and explaining who the artist was, which we both (not very well educated about LGBTQ culture) found very useful. We spent probably an hour just wandering through this small museum and considered it time well spent afterwards. We both learned a lot, especially about queer and feminist movements of the 1960s and 1970s, about which the museum was running an exhibit. Overall, I'd say that if you have any interest in LGBTQ culture or media, or just happen to be in the area and curious, you should make some time to visit :)

New York's best gay art gallery, highly recommended for LGBT visitors. There's usually a group show going on, and if you do your research you can drop by opening night and meet the artists. The quality of the work ranges all across the scale, but you'll definitely see something you love, as well as a bit of nudity or three. (Aunt Margaret should stay outside, unless those rumors about her and her friend Betty are true.)

The museum is smaller than I expected, but I still spend a solid couple hours browsing it thoroughly. The staff member who was working was really sweet and inviting, and they have a free coat check which is great. I would definitely be interested in returning the next time I am in New York! Tickets are pay-what-you-can, but you get a free postcard if you purchase your ticket for $10+!

The definitive LGBT art space in New York. They not only show an amazing mix of classic and contemporary LGBT art, but they have terrific community outreach, offering weekly drawing classes and holding art openings that are fun, informative, and perfect for meeting that literate man. As with all galleries, check beforehand to make sure there's a show up before you go.

Not much on display here. I do think that this could really be more involved but it just isn't.

I left the Leslie-Lohman Museum inspired, joyous, and thrilled to identify as queer/gay. Their exhibits were breathtaking. At the end of my gazing, I purchased a few books from an awesome selection. Kelso, who helped me with my transaction, was incredibly kind and a joy to talk too. To anyone who is apart of the LGBTQ2+ community, this is a MUST-SEE.

Museum is a two rooms space usually features 2-3 lgbtq artists or exibits. Museum is a must, their showcase that you never gonna see in any other museum. Then a saw respresentation of gendergueer and trans people, I almost cried - I realized I saw someone like me on the wall in museum for the first time.

(Translated by Google) A small museum, or a gallery-like space. The donation's recommendation is 8 dollars, but I think that about 2 dollars is right. It is an art for LGBT. (Original) 小さな美術館、というかギャラリー的なスペース。ドネーションの推奨が8ドルですが、2ドルくらいがちょうどいいと思う。LGBT向けのアートです。

Admission fee is suggested. If you donate more than $10, you can get a lovely postcard. The staff is really nice and helpful and I think it’s a good place to spend a couple of hours if you’re interested in LGBTQ+ arts, history and culture.

To my knowledge the museum is the only permanent exhibition space in the US dedicated explicitly to highlighting the works of LGBTQ+ artists. The staff are always pleasant and admission is donation-based (the suggested donation is $10). If you are visiting New York, be sure to visit.

Went to see the opening of Male Gaze and it was very interesting, especially the pieces that go beyond the genitals or that find a way to portrait them in less obvious ways.

(Translated by Google) Not a big place, but it brings a lot of warmth to the group of LGBT. The photos inside are very artistic and there are some videos of stream of consciousness. (Original) 不大的地方,但给LGBT这个群体带来不少温暖,里面的照片很艺术,也有一些意识流的影片。

The Leslie-Lohman is an invaluable resource chronicling gay life, history, personalities, artists and art over the centuries. From the closeted artists of centuries past to the most outrageous contemporary talent, the Leslie-Lohman is the repository, the fount of all things art and gay. It embodies both the history and culture of gay people, all under one roof on Wooster St. Do not miss it. There is always some wondrous exhibition under way and there is no other place quite like it.

Cute museum. Admission fee is suggested. The work is curated under four themes: erotic, coming out, sexual outlaw and cross gender or something - sorry for my bad memory. Theme is super clear but my fondness for work differs one vs another. Really really small though.

Summary - A small but cute museum dedicated to queer art. Great to kill a few hours. Free admission/by donation. This little museum is super cute! I had a lot of fun checking out different art. While I didn't do this, it seems like there are guided tours. The tour guide seemed pretty knowledgeable and gave more context to the art that wasn't available otherwise. Note: there is a separate project space for local artists a few blocks north. The time I went, the artist was actually there and you could ask questions about the pieces. Also, this museum may have art that involves nudity. If you're not comfortable with that, perhaps double check the exhibit on the website. I'd love to come here again.

This museum is a little off the beaten path, but it is well worth finding if you are in town. It doesn't matter if you are straight, gay, bi, trans, etc, you will leave here having learned so much. There are so many human stories that are told with the art in this museum. Next time we are in town, we plan to spend a bit more time here. Love, love, love.

First.. about the museum... it is on a side street.. in the soho.. nicely appointed 2 intimate exhibition areas... a helpful.. i believe volunteer staff on hand with information.. the museum was relatively busy by time we left.. looked like a very mixed group of people.. all seemed very interested in the exhibition. The museum is well kept.. unisex bathrooms.. very clean.. just like the museum.. you should visit!! I liked the exhibition of the lesbian donna gottschalk whose photos display her experiences during the 60' s into the 70' s in America.. not so beautiful if you were gay or lesbian or anything other than straight.. Then there is the performance Artist... Stephen Varble.. very interesting manner of protest.. and obviously.. at least locally.. effective. The era is significant.. and clearly the early era of sexual revolution in America... Loved the outlandish outfits of this unusual fashionista.. kudos.. how wonderful and varied is our human race.. a true scourge with its ugly judgments on its own family.. human... and on the other hand so colorful, creative, and inspiring.. in so many different forms... we only need to learn and respect all... love to you all.. keep bringing all of our part of the human history... told through our eyes.. Thank you
