Located at the end of Hylan Blvd by the water near Fort Wadsworth is a museum dedicated to promote public awareness and scholarly study regarding the life and work of Alice Austen, one of America's earliest and most prolific female photographers. There are workshops in photography that are held over the weekend for those interesting in photography. Just check their schedule.

Alice Austen house is my favorite historical place in Staten Island. I love the house, the gardens, the beach, the views and, most importantly, Alice...her life story and her photos. I know that Alice had a remarkable life that, sadly, ended in the Farm Colony, as I recall. She was a woman ahead of her times and, I, for one, am grateful that she chronicled this era in time.

Ed Hafizov

A quiet unrushed learning experience with a ton of unique exhibits related to the history of photography and 19th century NYC society. Loved pinhole workshops, so fun for the kids and teens!

This review is solely for Alice Austen House as a wedding venue. Please bride-to-bes beware of this venue! It has the WORSE management EVER! I was trying to book my wedding with them since April 2017. Don't get me wrong that place is beautiful and has everything I have envisioned for my dream wedding. However I waited MONTHS AND MONTHS, gave them multiple calls to set up a date which is late September to October (the venue is best of outdoor so time of the year is restricted.) The staff there always promise to give me updates and I only recalled getting one call from them all these time. I was constantly told either "Sorry, we're going under transition with the staffing" or "Oh we just had to run a big event and was so busy" or "Oh we're still waiting for board's approval but will definitely get back to you." Haven't heard anything. I've stretched my patience beyond the maximum while trying to remain optimistic although the time to prepare for a wedding is running out everyday....They finally reply me at beginning of Aug, leaving me with only TWO months to my expected date. Of course my planning of having a wedding in 2017 is ruined!!! I was beyond upset!! So if you're considering Alice Austen House as your venue, please be aware that they will make you wait...and probably long enough to ruin your whole plan as booking a venue is the first and foremost important step of the whole wedding planning. Please don't make the same mistake that I made. Trust me this is so mentally draining and upsetting to work with them but I sincerely hope that they will get better.

Great Museum, very friendly staff and atmosphere. Was here for the Fleet Week Parade of Ships everyone here felt it was a family get-together, from NYFD, NYPD, and Staten Island residents treated this Jersey guy like a neighbor as if we were at a Block Party.

My wife and I really enjoyed the home, property and history from the tour. The only thing i would do different is to have her pictures run on a TV/DVD instead of sitting and looking through binders. If you are in the area,, this is a must see place to go,

A beautiful view of the harbor with a cool breeze coming off the water makes this the best place to watch the stars come out. The house museum is a small perfect gem. I love its new interpretation as an important LGBTQ site -- finally, Alice Austen can be understood in her fascinating social setting of female affection and community. This is done with sensitivity and subtlety but not squeamishness -- perfect for the entire family, especially girls who want to imagine the possibilities for themselves in a world that takes women's accomplishments and intelligence seriously. Also, they host periodic craft fairs where local artisans and makers sell their wares. Highly recommended!!!

Great views of the NYC skyline. Alice Austen was one of the first female photographers so the museum has a lot of her pictures. UNCLE GERRY'S TIP: Go early on the Fourth of July for an amazing view of the NYC Fireworks.

The Alice Austen House sits on the bay of Staten Island and is tranquil and beautiful. You can browse the rooms of the home which still contain some wonderful antiques and original cameras of the time. The photography of course was amazing and there are also some from other artists. but Alice's stood out. I roamed the grounds and admired the gardens along the trails. The best part that we kept doing again and again, was walking into the "livingroom" and taking in the breathtaking view of the bay from the glass doors. You just felt a nice cool breeze greeting you each time. Everyone should take the time to enjoy this. Only $3 donation, but no-one bothers you to contribute.

(Translated by Google) Do not let anyone tell you there is nothing to do on Staten Island ... Many museums to discover (in season). The Alice Austen House is one of the few to stay open in winter. Excellent welcome. You are transported in the universe Alice Austen by your hosts and very quickly you will flip through her photo albums. You will discover there testimonies of his time: scenes of the everyday life of well-off circles (before the crach of 29), streets of New-York, migrants transiting by Ellis Island ... And that is not all, but just like me, go there to discover the mystery of Alice ... I just adore this place and imagine what this must have looked like before the bridge. So peaceful and how AA must have flourished an island away from Manhattan. The ambience is warming, the flowers inviting and the volunteers super friendly. I miss living on SI just to be able to visit as often as I used too. Miss AA House!
