Great is the World

NASA is folk art. It belongs to us. Go. Listen to the stories. Touch. Feel. Allow yourself to feel. Soak it in. Be more absorbent. Soak more in. Fall in love. Forgive yourself for not going sooner.

I drove by the Space Murals Museum in Organ, New Mexico a number of times, but never decided to stop and check it out. From the road, the museum is just like any small residential structure in the area. Nothing spectacular. Until you go inside. Bored one Saturday afternoon with nothing to do, I finally decided to visit. So, I called the museum to check if they are open. Someone named Ben answered the call and told me that he’d be glad to have me. It was about 20 minutes of no-traffic driving from my place to Organ, New Mexico. I entered the Space Murals Museum and realized that I was the only visitor that afternoon. Even Ben was not there when I arrived. He was at the back of the building cleaning the pond. After about 5 minutes or so, he entered the museum, saw me, and then apologized for missing to welcome me. I said “no problem” with a smile. He then gave a short intro about the museum. He told me that it is privately owned by Lou Gariano. The owner has collected some NASA space artifacts and decided to share them to the public. Some knick-knacks were donated by space enthusiasts and astronauts.

Lots of cool stuff to look at and information! Murals are nice and the gift shop has lots of cool goodies (and won't break the bank which is awesome for the kiddos). The man who was there when we went, was a very nice gentleman.

Another great free museum. The main building houses many pieces of space history and there are also some very nice displays on the grounds just out back.

This little space museum has many interesting historical pieces and scale models. You can tell the people that work there are very passionate about space and will be there to answer ANY questions you may have. This is a place you MUST stop for great pictures of the murals and to learn more about space. Will try to go again if I’m passing through New Mexico again.

A hidden gem! I was born and raised in Las Cruces and overlooked this place. Everyone should definitely visit this FREE museum. The gift shop isn't overpriced, has really neat items perfect for gifts. Staff is very knowledgeable and charming. I urge you to come here and they even have a small pond in the back and a kids area. Adults and kids can enjoy this museum. Thank you to the museum for a wonderful experience. I'll be back for another tshirt and ice cream!
