Really really well organized and beautiful exhibit on the history and cultural of the Pueblo people. They have obviously put a lot of effort into preserving their space and culture. We spent about 2 hours here, and it was a very educational experience. The tour guide was great. All of the staff and vendors are very friendly and willing to answer any questions, and it was a great experience to visit. If you're in the area and have a morning free, I definitely recommend stooping by!

Our tour guide Brandon was awesome. I loved getting to speak with the everyone and see a tiny glimpse of their way of life. Their church was absolutely beautiful and left me speechless and put tears in my eyes. You have to stop here and take a tour, I could have spent hours there just talking to everyone. The Sky City Cultural Centre is a limited Visitors Centre & the ancient Indian homes are a short bus ride up the hill. Our tour guide had 2 busloads of people stand in the sun while he delivered a fast history of his people, despite a large shady area being just to our right. The view at several thousand feet up is spectacular. There is an opportunity to view their handicrafts & chst to the artists, which were on display at various tables throughout the village where tourists were encouraged to purchase. The tour finished with a tour of the huge church which is open to the public 25-28 December & maybe labour day.

Beautiful scenery of the surrounding landscape. The tour to see the dwellings on the mesa was a bit disappointing. It lacked cultural depth and significance. Educating and making visitors aware of the culture it missing. However, what was not missing was the pushing of local artists' arts. Vendors at every coner, almost literally, during the entire guided tour $22. I would have preferred to visit the artists at a vendor's area, which there was one at the visitors center. However, if you did pay for the guided tour, the optional hike down from the mesa was the highlight of my trip. It is pretty steep down carved-out steps at two (about) eight foot descend segments, one with hand grips in sandstone and the other without any holds.

The cultural center is a beautiful building, but the galleries are tiny. Still, the scant displays and the introductory video give you some level of preparation before you depart for the pueblo. The gift shop is well stocked with local pottery and jewelry, and the cafe is priced similarly to other museum resturaunts. All-in-all a pleasant, albeit brief, addition to the tour of the pueblo.

Went there nothing was open. Coffee shop closed, gift shop closed, there was more closed than open. Tour was not going to be for another half hour. We left, which is a shame because it looked like it had potential to be very interesting.

Acoma Sky City itself is a most unique place, with incredible views and history. The tour is 20% history, 80% touring the different vendors. Still worth it! It's that beautiful!

This a shame I can only give it five stars. It is an amazing and wonderful place. There are a few structures that date to 1150 still standing on the mesa. The views are breath taking and the guide was amazing. Everyone should go see it. I will go back again

Loved the history of this place and how well kept it is. Loved hearing from the locals about their home, and enjoyed the authenticity of the place. I was a bit disappointed in our guide, who several times interrupted conversations with the local artists to remind us that there were other artists to purchase from. Our guide made little effort to interact - seemed like a memorised lecture more than anything. It is clearly becoming commercialised with the artist tables spread through the tour - this seemed to be a main focus rather than the architecture, food, music, or contemporary life on the pueblo. We liked the visitor centre and museum. It was clean, modern, well-designed and well curated.

It is a incredible experience. I really enjoyed the place. The houses are in the top of the mountain. Great opportunity! If you are in Albuquerque, you have to visit this beautiful place.

The tour was great. Totally worth it. It was awesome to be able to learn about this pueblo, and the Acoma people. Very friendly and peace loving. (I can't imagine groups of strangers meandering through my block every day!) The pottery is gorgeous, too. I misunderstood and thought there were tours every half hour. They take place *hourly, on the half hour* (i.e., at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, etc.). The last tour is at 3:30pm, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time. I'd recommend bringing some cash in case you want to buy some of the local art up in the village, though most of them did accept credit cards as well. The pottery runs from $100-300 (such a fair price for how much work goes into it, and the money goes directly to the artisans). There's also opportunities to purchase handmade jewelry and drawings from local artists in the village.

We learned about this place from a resident we had bought a beautiful little piece of pottery he had made. It's just a few miles out of your way, we got there too late to tour the city on the mountaintop but were let into the museum (even though it was officially just closing) where many testimonials are available to read. Whether you're heading east or west on I-40, one road takes you in and another takes you out, so the distance out of your way is minimal. We plan to go back for the tour some day.

Very nice tour of a Pueblo. The houses are so unique and make for awesome pictures. Last tour is at 3:30 PM. Also know that they don't allow gopro cameras. The tour was well worth the $25. My tour guide and one of the vendors graciously gifted me pears and peaches. Definitely visit this place.

This serves as the introduction to the Acoma Pueblo culture and people. There is a short movie that is informative and well-made. We enjoyed the cartoonist exhibition, it was different and refreshing. The website indicates there is an additional charge for a camera, but it is included in the ticket price. In the courtyard there are artists selling pottery and jewelry. They are wonderful to talk with, explaining their particular style and techniques without being pushy. Be sure to take the tour, it is once in a lifetime. Megan was our tour guide, she was outstanding!

The Cultural Center is well laid out, very informative. My husband and I took the tour bus to the top where a few artist residents, some with children, still live in the Adobe houses. We ate in the restaurant. I highly recommend making time for a meal. Allow half a day for a good experience.

We had a great tour guide who provided a lot of valuable information. The tour is structured around the artists selling their arts and crafts so make sure to bring money. The staircase path down is not for the faint of heart and can be challenging for those without stable balance and hand/grip strength. Overall, informative and beautiful outing. Also, although we didn't eat at the cafe, the food looked delicious.

BE AWARE!!! The website tells you that guided tours are available and gives the cost. What it DOESN'T TELL YOU is that if you want to see the Pueblo you HAVE TO take the guided tour. We had a limited amount of time to visit and got there a half hour before they closed. We had driven 2 hours to get there only to be told you can't visit the Pueblo on your own. I can respect that but I wish they would have made that clear on the website.

I have known about this place for many years but this was my first visit. I was impressed that they allowed you to take photos as in the past they did not or you had to buy a very expensive camera permit. I believe our tour guide was Steve and we went on the last tour of the day so the vendors were likely to reduce the price versus packing everything up for the next day. I will definitely come back here again it is a very mystical place and you can actually feel the forces that drove the people to live here for such a long time. One of the highlights of my trip to Albuquerque was coming here

This was an interesting stopped recommended to me by a co-worker. It is a short drive from the interstate and worth your while to experience the history and culture of the Acoma people. The museum appears new and includes some exhibits of their history and culture, gift shop, front service desk, and a small cafeteria. You pay to reserve tickets to tour the Sky Village, which includes rights to photograph some portions of the tour and the short bus ride up to the village. The tour was informative, the guide spoke well and loud enough for group of about 20 outside. The guide took us around the village and explained parts of the Acoma history and some features of the homes and village. Be prepared to browse many tables of hand crafted art throughout the tour. There are times during the tour when you have five minutes or more to browse and make purchases. Some people take credit card, by my purchase vendor said his didn't' work. I recommend dressing well for the weather (hat, shorts, and there is a dress code - check their website) and have water with you during the tour. It is dusty, with some puddles to walk through/around, so maybe closed toe shoes is best.

The Acoma people are the real deal, they are genuinely nice and there philosophy on the way they live is a lesson we could all learn. The new cultural center is really nice! Bought a hand made seed pot from Charlene Victorino under the new open air market, super cool.

You need to plan 2 hours for the tour $25, which I'm sure would be wonderful, but we didn't know that and still had a 6 hour drive ahead of us and it was it was 3 pm. You can not drive up if you are not on a tour. They had a museum for $9, but it only had a 6 minute video. To take pictures, you needed to buy a photo pass for $15. There was one artist vender who did exceptional custom pottery that showed the mesa and skyline above it. His work was around $100 per piece. As we drove across the property toward the highway, we met an Indian woman who was selling things and told us stories about the Acoma history. She was very informative.

A special place. Those that still live on the mesa are warm and welcoming. They are proud of their culture and want to share their knowledge with all visitors. The tour guides do not "read from a script." They share their own experiences as well as the history of their people. This is one of the top three places we bring visitors to when they come to NM.

We ordered a tour to the top. This was a very interesting trip. There are still folks living up there and you can buy pottery from locals. Our guide Jeremy was very helpful and knew lots of insides and made the tour even more a plesent experience by his humor. The views are spectacular and you can take pictures with two exceptions, the cementary and the inside of the church. If you are well on foot, you can descend the skycity by a foot walk way. But be aware that some parts are steep stairs. All in all worth our time.

The Pueblo also features many of it's artists selling their work and a museum. The people are warm and friendly and love to share their stories. Parking is plentiful. Restaurant is also site. We were running late so took the short tour and it was well worth it. We were lucky enough to be the only two on the tour so had the full attention of our guide Aldon (hopefully spelt correctly) who was friendly and informative and patiently answered our many questions. In addition to the (sometimes grim) history, Aldon was happy to speak of current day life in the pueblo and the Acoma community, their beliefs, and their lifestyle. As an unexpected bonus, a kind Acoma gentleman stopped to chat with us as we ate our lunch under a tree behind the cultural center so we learned some more about current day life and ranching. Well worth visiting.

While the history is important and fascinating, and the building is very fancy, the high price of admission seems absolutely absurd. We found this to be true of most "roadside attractions" along route 66. It was about $100 for two parents and three young children. I wish this museum and others like it would display their artifacts simply, tastefully, and affordably, instead of the architectural showboating that nonprofits often get sucked into in their quest to impress donors.

This review is for the pueblo tour. For $25 there should be much more to see and a much better trained guide. Ours was lovely yet, sadly completely unprepared for the task. When she talked about the settelment's history she constantly inserted "do" and "does" before each verb which was insanely distracting. "They DO live here", "they DID come here", "they DID build this", "they DID conquer"... every sentence! After five minutes of that all you do is wait for the next "did", "does", "do". She also stuck to her script and struggled anytime a question came up from a group. The settlement itself is practically abandoned. The only residents we saw were vendors. Wonderfully warm and talented people, but we, the visitors, get no sense of the real life there. The Acoma come up to set up their tables and leave as soon as the last tour group leaves. Essentially you see some structures, a couple of the "ladders", an oven and then you leave. The one camera limit is likewise bizarre. And what doesn't make sense is the "$15 Camera only" permit mentioned on the website since you CAN'T just buy that and see the pueblo on your own. GUIDED tours are the only way to see the settlement and they leave every hour on the half-hour. Overall, I felt the tour price didn't justify the experience. The objective, it seemed, was to shuttle us from one vendor to the other and show something in between. Also, the guide knew practically nothing about the interior of the church.

Very special place indeed. Not only was pottery and art work amazing but so are the indigenous people and families that still call sky city home. This story and adventure needs to be told by the local tour guides. I mean our two guides were generational people of the land. It's the people's story to tell but had the three of us had a wonderful time. Barbara and I also climbed down the optional departure way, other then the bus that got you up there but to walk down the original stairwell back to the visitors center. Very difficult path of return, so please be very careful if you chose to descend through the original stairwell. Not recommended for people with disabilities.

The Cutural Center is a beautiful building with a nice cafe and gift shop. Museum area is small but informative with mainly personal stories of tribal members. It is NOT OPEN! The visitor center is only open weekends, they don’t tell you this until you go hours out of your way for it! You cannot see the Pueblo at all. It’s only for people of their tribe. If you are looking pottery or art, save your time and stop in Laguna Pueblo instead.

The place was nice, clean and pretty cool. We are here off season but there were still native artists selling their work and it was beautiful...so why only three stars? The tour was $25 per head and you weren't allowed to take pics or go anywhere off the pavement unless you paid for the tour. They said that we could buy a photo card to take pictures at the center but we couldn't go to the actual Sky City or Cathedral because we didn't buy the tour. Our family had 7 people in it and we couldn't justify $175 to take the tour, I felt in the end that it was just a way to get money, I unfortunately wanted to learn about the friendly and beautiful people that have lived in this area for so long.

For $27 per adult (there are discounts for certain groups, such as Seniors), you'll get access to the museum and also book yourself a spot in a 1.5 hour tour of the Acoma Pueblo, a beautiful Native village located atop the nearby Mesa. The Museum itself is rather small, but includes some beautiful exhibits related to the local area and its people. There's also a video that plays regularly providing some additional history and context about the area. The tour is where this place really shines. The tour guide for my group was knowledgeable, passionate, funny, and very engaging as he walked us through his home and provided so many insights into this magnificent area. While touring the village, along with getting an opportunity to take in the architecture, history, and culture, you'll also get some incredible views of the surrounding landscape. There are also lots of opportunities to purchase some of the incredible, hand-crafted or hand-painted works of the people who live in the village. This was a moving, enriching experience, and I was very glad to have visited.

A truly wondrous place offering a gorgeous visitor center with knowledgeable, friendly staff, a modern, informative museum with a plethora of historical and educational exhibits, a well-appointed gift shop, and a cafe/bistro. The tour is absolutely amazing. Native artisans offer their masterpieces to the public in the forms of painstaking handmade pottery, totems, and jewelry. The matriarchal community high up on the Mesa is the longest continually inhabited in history. Steeped in the history and culture of the Acoma People, the experience is educational, moving and quite spiritual. Gorgeous 360 degree views from atop the Mesa move and instill a deep sense of wonderment. You can almost hear the ancestors speaking directly to you as you walk the same earth they walked upon millennia ago. Definitely a "must experience" for the whole family.

The history here is amazing! There are breathtaking views all around. Be sure to check out the gift shop, and don't be afraid to offroad a little. There are some gorgeous places around the base of Acoma. Watch for cows :)

Lovely Pueblo on a mesa nearly 400 feet above the desert floor. Interesting, yet tragic, history of the Acoma natives that have lived there since the 1100s. Beautiful pottery is offered for sale by local artists as as you tour the Pueblo. Take water if visiting during the summer as there is none on the mesa. Well worth the drive out west of ABQ.

I have taken the tour at least 8 times, and this last time was not good. The guide seemed bored and disinterested, and did little to accommodate one of the "guests" that was using bottled oxygen. In addition, the gift shop was closed, as was the snack bar at the end of the tour (4 PM) so that there was nowhere to get a bottle of water. This was particularly distressing right before Balloon Fiesta where a ton of visitors are likely.

Came here for the tour of the Pueblo. The tour was amazing, reasonably priced, and our guide was very knowledgeable. The residents of the Pueblo were all very warm and welcoming to us. This is an area that is steeped in history, and is a must see for those traveling on I-40.

Wonderfully historic location, occupied continuously by the Acoma tribes. New cultural center. Top of Mesa was beyond fantastic. Well informed guide brought history of his people to life. Nice mixture of ancient houses to newly built ones. And the Cathedral, built in 1629/1641, was totally beautiful in a simplistic way. Walking was a little hard due to gravel walkways, but there are frequent stops for history lessons. And the views were truly incredible!

Really enjoyed visiting the museum, and taking the tour of Acoma Pueblo (also called Sky City) is a must. Our guide Gary was very knowledgeable and engaging, as he lives in the community himself. Fascinating history and amazing to see the people living as they have for centuries. Artists display their beautiful artwork and pottery while you are on the tour, so be sure to bring cash as it is hard to resist not buying an original piece or two. Loved our morning there, highly recommend.
