Nice walk through the ruins. It's a pretty steep climb if you park at the welcome center, so ask about driving down if you have difficulty walking uphill.

Warman Hall

Unlike some of the other ancestral puebloan site in the four corners, this is a locally-managed and actively studied archaeology site. Stop by the gift shop before leaving.

James S. Hunter

I drove by this place for 25+ years during my career in NM and never stopped. I'm retired now and was traveling with my wife to Farmington for a meeting her organization is having there. I tried to talk her out of stopping, but thinking of the times I didn't stop, I stopped. I'm glad I did. I've read some of the other reviews and I agree. Some of the exhibits are a little tired, and I was also after 3 1/2 hours walking, but it was fun. I would say to the older crowd, drive down to the parking lot below after viewing the exhibits close to the road as the switch backs from the road can be difficult. Also, best to be enjoyed in 65 to 75 degree weather.

Andy Durall

Nice people. Very clean. A lot of Coulter.

There is a lot to see at Salmon Ruins. It has a museum with artifacts that were found during the excavation of the the ruins . I would suggest watching the 15 to 20 minute DVD in the small media area. There is a paved , and rather steep path, with rails, that leads down from the museum to the ruins and an old homestead. There is also a small amphitheater and recreated Native American structures from the tribes that inhabited the Four Corners area. Overall it took about 2 hours to see everything. That included reading SOME of the information but not all.

The gentleman running the Museum the day my family and I were there was outstanding. My grandson learned so much from being at the museum. When you get the opportunity to to the Salmon Ruins Museum go it is worth it.

We visited over a week ago and found it to be very interesting. So much history and culture. The museum was very informative and the gift shop had great stuff in it .. we found some great souvenirs too and we are letting others know if they ever go that way a must see.

Nancy Robinson

Very nice exhibits and we'll laid out trail through ruins.

This appears to be an easily overlooked park. The visitor center had some very nice displays and friendly informative staff. The self guided tour was relatively easy to walk but would be difficult to navigate with wheelchairs over some of the paths that are inclined and narrow.

Firstly I'd like to state that this historical site is rich in beauty and stories. However I've take n tow stars off my rating for two reasons. 1, no drinks are allowed in the building OR on the path. This includes water bottles. Given that tthis is New Mexico and the tour takes about 2 hrs... I'd say that could be a safety concern. Secondly, the short blonde lady that works there was slightly rude and passive toward me and my family life. Not sure if she was busy in the back, having an 'off' day or what, but she definitely could be more welcoming.

Andrew Carroll

If you want a chacoan or aztec ruin experience with even less crowds then this is the place to visit. It is right off RT 64 with an easy sign to see. Small museum and a gift shop, plus a library of local research. They have a heritage park which is great for understanding western style buildings. Plus the Salmon homestead which you can visit with reservations and then the Salmon Pueblo ruins. I highly recommend, it would only take about an hour to tour. And only costs $4. Visit in the morning if possible or in the spring/fall.

The Salmon Ruins site is a great place to see multiple culturally and historically relevant structures and items. The museum, puebloan ruins, and pioneer area combined make a very worthy and worthwhile stop.

The museum is 4 dollars for adults. It is open 9am to 5pm. The museum main building has a group of artifacts that explain the ruins. A trail leads from the gift shops out to the ruins. Make sure you wear good sole shoes due to thrones. Bring water we read most of the booklet and followed the numbers and it took us 2.5 hours to see it all.

These ruins are not well known but are very large and impressive. One reason is the property is privately owned. However it is open to the public for a small fee $3.00 or $4.00. if you and your family like to visit these types of historic sights, I would highly recommend a stop here. Gift shop and museum also.

the people are great to be around

Probably the most accurately interpreted, incredible gift shop, and as a bonus very often when you visit you have the place to yourself!

Had just come from Aztec Ruins, so maybe that's why the skewed opinion, lots of information to take in, had a lot of potential, but the grounds felt rundown and not maintained well.

While less known these ancestral puebloans ruins show aspects of both older chacoan and later Mesa Verde influence. The museum area features some nice pieces from the paquime region, which I haven't seen any where else.

So I found this on a paper map of New Mexico and thought I’d check it out. It’s pretty small on the map, but in reality it’s actually quite large. The gift shop is a bit pricey, but the stuff in there looks handmade so I think it’s worth the cost. The staff seemed pretty friendly. The walking tour takes kind of a long time if you read the whole guide, but if you skim it it’s pretty quick so to each their own pace. It’s super educational and worth the stop.

It was just a bad time of year for this site, and doesn't have the flare of great ruins after following Canyons of the Ancients and other rural sites that have more of an adventure feel. In contrast this had more of a possessive feel to it.

eric cheatham

I thought it was a very cool! The kids enjoyed the fact that we could walk right up to the excavation and in some spots inside the excavation! It was worth the $10(fam of four) for 1.5 hrs education and exercise!!!

This place was ok- we enjoyed seeing the ruins, but had more fun at Chaco Canyon near Nageezi and Aztec ruins in Aztec NM. The pioneer homestead was cool to see.

09-24-2018 This is truly a must see! My son Jason and I enjoyed are visit to Salmon Ruins and we especially liked the Heritage Park. At the site is the Salmon Ruins Museum, Heritage Park & Salmon Homestead. You will be introduce to Ruins, Hogans, a Wikiup, Pithouse, Trading Post, & a Pioneer Homestead. The museum displayed range from artifacts, historical material, mining, mineral rocks and more. The gift shop has a nice selection of book, post cards, & gifts for that special one. Clean rest rooms and ample parking. I highly recommend this site.

Toured Salmon Ruin and Chaco Canyon in May 2019 with Tori Myers of the San Juan County Archeological Research Center, Salmon Ruin. Tori, a ‘Ceramic Analyst/Archaeologist’, is a delightful people person who truly loves sharing her knowledge of the Ancient Peoples of Northern New Mexico. We saw artifacts and examples of the people who lived 1000 years ago. We would have missed 90% of the history had we walked the ruins without her guidance. Plus, she drove us in a 4-wheel drive vehicle designed for the terrain; I would never drive my personal car on the roads leading to Chaco. Larry, Kansas City, MO.

Great little place. Staff is very helpful, informative, and kind. There is a great little meusem that is informative as well as having artifacts found there. If you don't have time to do Chaco Canyon or want a great experience for kids to learn about the past I can not recommended this place enough. Obviously, its not as big or stunning as Chaco or Mesa Verde but its only ten minutes from Farmington and in the town of Bloomfield. Great way to spend an hour or more. Bring lunch and enjoy their deck with a view of the site.

Maybe it was just an off day when I went. The cashier was outside on a smoke break, and finished, and brought her kids in before helping us. Nothing was explained, the cashier seemed to be preoccupied with her kids being there. We were given a book and told we can drive or walk down there. It really wasn't a good experience.

Mikki Roth

Interesting museum plus self guided tour of ruins.

Amazing place! If you have any interest in the Chacoan architecture or artifacts, this is the place to see them. Much bigger than I thought it would be & the museum is very well done. We will go back, probably several times! Low cost & high value!

A must see destination that offers a detailed look at the local Indian tribes and early settlers culture and lifestyles. Be prepared to walk and traverse uneven terrain, but worth every step. The museum is filled with Indian artifacts such as pottery, tools and weapons that enhance the experience. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting or just passing thru the area that want a glimpse into New Mexico's culture and history!

So cool and great tour

Shawn Asmus

I really enjoyed walking through the Salmon Ruins. The ruins covered more area than I had anticipated. We followed the numbered points of interest detailed in the booklet we received when we checked in at the desk. The booklet was very detailed and informative. We tried to imagine the Anasazi life as we walked our way through each section. There was only one other group ahead of us, so it was quiet and we were able to take pictures without a bunch of people being in them.

Scott Crabtree

Lovely museum, with artifacts, photos, and interesting displays. The grounds have both 19th century Salmon homestead, but the well-maintained ancient Puebloan ruins. Nice staff and gift shop. Well worth the visit and entrance fee.
