I am so bummed. Hours are not updated online and I brought my friend and her 4 year old from New York City, only to find the door locked and a sign posted that they are closed on Mondays. Meanwhile, their online hours say open today. I have been here before and loved it and had the best time. Super bummed!
Picture a cluttered garage containing rattlesnakes in different cases, and you have a pretty good picture of what this one-of-a-kind "museum" is like. There are 2-3 rooms containing a variety of rattlesnakes, non-rattle snakes, and a myriad of other reptiles. The displays offer "adult" information above each case, and "kid" information below (perfect height for kids). There are also displays of snake-related products and artifacts from around the world. Overall, you get to see some awesome snakes, gain a new appreciation for these animals, and maybe get a cool souvenir to show your friends. Definitely worth it.
Bob is the coolest guy that owns the King rattles in the Southwest, this place is a must see place!!
This is one of those kitschy tourist traps that are definitely worth stopping at. The owner operator is a fun guy you might accidentally learn something about rattlesnakes and if you have a friend that's queasy about the thoughts of being in such a small room with so many snakes that's worth the admission ticket right there. Some of them is Collectibles and antiques or actually interesting to look at learn about. And his pet tortoises we're quite the surprise.
I liked the variety of snakes that were here. I wish the movie times were listed so that we could have watched the whole movie. It would have been great to have more educational items not so many toys. Maybe if there could be times where kids could see feedings and/or hold reptiles.
Very informative, more than just rattlesnakes
This place is a true gem. I entire museum, all the animals and collection of reptile related objects were fascinating. A place you have to go to while visiting Albuquerque.
Amazing display of very dangerous animals. Very friendly staff and super safe museum thats very educational. Great for all age groups.
Pretty cool: my son learned about where different snakes come from and got to watch a movie in the back about other reptiles and animals.
This was a stop my son picked out and was his favorite stop of our entire trip. They have so many different types of snakes and he was in heaven there.
Nice museum. Friendly curator. Very informative.
Bob Myers made our visit memorable
Fun surprising educational gem we found for the kids! The owner is excellent with the kids and helped us keep them engaged.
If you're interested in rattlesnakes this is the place to visit
Quirky, informative...lots of very different Rattlesnake specimens and lots of information
Very interesting. The largest rattle snake museum in the world! A diamond back rattled at me when I approached! He looked really angry.
totally loved it there, it's educational
Great variety, nicely kept snake habitat, loved the snapping turtle.
Cool little place. My kids liked it.
Definitely worth the visit to the rattlesnake Museum which has a collection of live animals, primarily reptiles, and pretty much anything under the sun that can be attributed to reptile memorabilia. This includes beers, postcards and stamps, and staff who are willing to have a friendly conversation with you. It has a cheeky charm to it. Oh, the $6 adult admission is definitely worth it in order to earn your certificate of Bravery.
Small museum with several informational video's and a small gift shop. Stop by and learn something new about snakes and reptiles.
Cute shop. Owner is quite knowledgeable about snakes and willing to share. Small location and does get crowded easily
It's a small museum with limited exhibits, but it's worth the small entry fee if you are in Old Town Albuquerque for the day. I wouldn't make a special I'll trip just to see this museum. The proprietor was very nice and knowledgeable.
love bringing my friends to the rattlesnake factory
Live snakes and neat facts make this a unique museum to visit.
Although it is a small museum it is a great educational experience for children as well as adults. You learn about all different types of rattlesnakes as well as non-poisonous snakes, turtles, lizards, and salamanders.
actually super awesome experience. There are three tortoises roaming around on the ground but the curator is very knowledgeable and passionate.
These folks are passionate about what they do and their work is very important. I would love to see an exhibits overhaul. The museum is half living collection and half cabinet of curiosities. Great for kids and those young at heart.
Some really cool stuff here as well as live rattlesnakes
Fantastic place to learn all you've ever wanted to know about rattlesnakes and snakes in general! Really fun for kids!
Awesome mini reptile zoo. Well worth the price of admission
Good variety of live rattlesnakes and other reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. Price is a little steep, but my 4 year old loved the place.
Fine collection of rattle snakes. Not a several hours exhibition - but definitely worth the fee
This is such a cool place to visit and take your visitors. It’s rare to be able to see all these types of rattlesnakes up close. It’s never been crowded when I’ve gone. You go in and buy your tickets and then there is a gift shop to look around in as well. I wouldn’t go here if you are jumpy.
It was closed! And has strange hours.
Lots of cool live snakes that you won't see anywhere else!
The owner/manager could not have been more friendly and helpful and has a sweet collection of snakes it's a must see!
Small but very informative fun slightly hokey but cool little place. Quirky and fun. If you are in Old Town, Albuquerque, definitely check it out, at least the gift shop.
This is a awesome place to face your fears but i just wish they would have more types of snakes not just rattle snake
Fantastic place very educational and super nice hosts
My parents took me to this museum since I was a baby, when I was 8 or 9 I got to hold a python. Pretty much grew up in Old Town. I make an effort to go at least every year, if not more. It's the largest collection of rattlesnakes in the world. The owner and curator, Bob, is one of the kindest people you will ever meet, take the time to talk to him and you'll find out some pretty cool facts. If you really want to see some desert wildlife up close and some interesting historical exhibits, I recommend this place 100%.
This is a really cool touristy stop to make whole you're shopping in old town. You get your "Bravery certificate" and discounts in the gift shop. There is a wealth of information about the snakes and other reptiles in the museum, as well as a little theatre which talks about various types of reptiles. Would recommend for sure.
Really cute and personal museum with many beautiful snakes.
Very educational for my little ones.
Sssssimply ssssssenssssational! But really, snakes are super cool :) loved it.
Great museum! Lots of good information, and lots of snakes. Worth a visit!
Very interesting. Very active snakes when I was there.
Really good collection of different Rattlesnakes and information about them.
Ha ha I thought the snakes were plastic...and then one finally moved. The snakes looked dead, or plastic. I can't imagine children would have enjoyed this. It was so hot, maybe too hot for the snakes
Lots of snakes. Pretty cool place to take the kids.
It is a small but cute and authentic place. My kids loved it.
Daughter really enjoyed all the snakes
It was an interesting museum. The snakes were cool to see, but still scary to see them that close. The large turtles were awesome to see. It was educational to see where most snakes resided in the country and world. However since this was a field trip, I probably would not have chosen to come here on my own. It was overall a nice (but a little scary) change to my daily activities.
I love snakes and this was a cheap, fun, educational place to go! I highly recommend you check it out!
Was awsome learning about so many different types of snakes super fun. there musium had alot of character. would definitely visit again.
Worth a visit if you like snakes. Not really a museum but interesting wnough
Incredible selection of rare snakes on display along with a few other surprises. The proprietor was friendly and knowledgeable. Got tons of great pictures of the snakes, but only posting one or two, the six dollars to view the museum portion of the shop is more than fair. You won't be disappointed.
Great place to visit when in Albuquerque. Very informative and interesting subjects.
Owner was really nice and the museum was small but well put together
Fun museum and gift shop. Alot of kool snakes and exhibits.
Not so unique tourist gift shop. Only the snakes distinguish it from every other shop on the street.
An amazing educational experience for anyone who wants to learn more about snakes in general, and rattlesnakes in particular. There were lots of different rattlesnake species, and also a handful of other reptiles. In the back room, an educational film was playing about the only snake in the world that gives live birth (do you know which one?). You can make the experience whatever you want. You could spend hours here reading up on all of them, or you could be in and out in half an hour. My only issue is how small the enclosures are. But I imagine that's the result of funding. So, go, see these beautiful creatures, and leave a donation. :)
Great place. Small and inexpensive. Owner very friendly. Very educational.
There's way more information on rattlesnakes than you ever thought you knew! Great stop in for people that have a fear of snakes.
Biggest rattlesnake museum around and we were able to learn a lot, while also receiving our certificate of survival
You can't leave without learning something, and possibly communing with a living creature. In Old Town, lots going on around it.
Small and interesting museum with lots of rattlers from across the US
AWESOME museum! Great information. So many varieties of rattlesnakes to see and learn about. Snakes were active and so unique to see up close, without being in danger.
My husband and I originally went here just to purchase a smashed penny book, but we ended up spending over an hour visiting and learning about the different snakes and turtles. The live snakes were very friendly and active, interested in what was happening beyond their enclosure. The staff were also very friendly, helpful, and had a lot of good information to pass on. Highly recommend!
Definitely worth it for the cheap price! All sorts of rattlesnakes including albinos. Also very enjoyable national geographic video (optional) at the end. The friendly man at the beginning was also able to identify a photo we'd taken of a snake seen earlier on a previous trail :)
Definitely worth the visit!
Cute and interesting but really small!!! But the owner is very kind. I recommand.
Great little atraction and incredibly informative
The Rattlesnake Museum is a classic roadside attraction. There are collections of charming and fascinating historic artifacts. Even for this amateur herpetological there was plenty to learn from their large living collection that includes rare and seldom seen species. Loved it.
Lot of different rattlesnakes behind glass. More information that I never knew about rattlesnakes. Place to go see and kids always love it.
So many types of rattlesnakes make this an excellent teaching museum. There are also Gila Monsters, tarantulas and turtles to keep one curious about this region of the USA. Staff is great ... so bring questions and dont be afraid to ask!
So much fun lots a great things inside.
I love this place! Every time I visit from out of town, I make time to go here. Yes I pay the admission fee every time for the same views because nothing changes but I don't care! It's the largest collection of rattlesnakes ever and their merchandise is to die for! I buy every single time. If you're a snake/reptile lover you must go here!!!! You must!!!!
Amazing place! Great exhibits of rattlesnakes, non-venomous snakes, and other animals (scorpion, black widow spider, skink, turtles/tortoises). Can't wait to return!
Very cool. Learned a lot and got really good pictures of the snakes and tortoises, they were all so lively and photogenic.
Super duper cool!!! The first snake was the coolest!!! My wife had a panic attack, there were so many snakes!!! It was awesome awesome AWESOME!!! GET THE MAGNETS, THEY'RE SUPER COOL!!!! And they have turtles.
I went there it was amazing and the staff were amazing i got to hold the normal ball python and the staff was very funny and educational.
Very cool exhibit. Very educational and informative of the various types of rattlesnskes.
Cute little place. $6 to get in was well worth it. I'm not much of a snake person but it was good to learn about so many different species.
What a great place! I had low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The owner is a cool guy, and the 30 snakes are mesmerizing!
Off the wall and super cool this was one of the highlights of our Albuquerque trip. There are a lot more snakes than rattlesnakes there and displays are informative and interesting. The feel of a roadside attraction but a good one!
Great selection of snakes. Good service.
This wasn't my type of museum. Looked like a garage stuffed full of random stuff with a majortity of that stuff being geared towards snakes and the other stuff just random stuff. The snakes were cool and the info presented on each was interesting...but all the other stuff I just didn't "get." One visit is enough...if you're on the fence, I would pass.
Good variety of live rattlesnakes. Information on the rattlesnakes and some other species of snakes and lizards is decent. Otherwise it had the look and feel of a vivarium. If you've never seen a vivarium nor a rattlesnake this is okay to visit.
Quirky little museum with a nice live collection of rattlesnakes and other native reptiles.
When it comes to Rattlesnakes, Bob is the most knowledgable individual that I know! I have been to the Rattlesnake Museum on multiple occasions, not only to visit but just to shop. When ever l have out of state visitors or know of a tourist with some downtime l always direct them to his museum! Even if you suffer from Ophidiophobia, you will find his museum educational. So when your in Albuquerque, New Mexico make sure to find time to visit the Rattlesnake Museum, don't short yourself.
It's a fun little museum where you can see a bunch of different rattlesnakes and learn a whole lot about them. It won't take you very long to see everything but it is a fun stop especially if you have kids.
Awesome place! Pretty good amount of different rattlesnakes.
Such a well curated, unique, and educational place! 10/10 would recommend visiting.
Small, but interesting place right in old town area. They have many live snakes to show with tons of information about them both written and on video. Pleasant and friendly staff.
Amazing place, definitely saw some snakes I have never seen or heard of before! The curator does some amazing work for the reptiles he saves and for the community
Definitely worth the stop. Lot of snakes as well as other reptiles and cool herpetological items!
Lots of cool snakes!
Take a break from dull tourist shoppes in Olde Town and have a fascinating, educational and entertaining experience instead. Will definitely give you something interesting to talk about later
So educational. The docent was wonderful. Answered all of our questions. Very engaging.
It was a diamond in the rough may be small but had very beautiful snakes a gilla monster, snapping turtles, huge snakes. Me and my sister and mom came today the snakes were beautiful wasnt expensive, cute jewelry very cute place
Interesting museum with live snakes, turtles, scorpions and other reptiles
My husband likes snakes, I don't, but I was glad to learn the educational side of it all.
An interesting gem hidden in old town. Glad our adventures brought us here. Owners were very kind and knowledgeable.
Very informative. Friendly staff.
Beautiful little place! Go there everytime I drive by New Mexico on my way to Phoenix! Cool reptiles and very good staff. Love the facts and info i get out of the place. Very informative and fun place to take the family while visiting!
Very unique
Nice exhibits with real snakes. Might get a little crowded, but lots of good information.
Very interesting place
So interesting! it was fascinating to see how many snake-themed products are out there, and the live snakes were all so neat! The videos were all very educational and there's a ton of stuff to look at. Would be great for kids too.
Amazing place! We’ve been here twice. In addition to snakes, there are tortoises outside in a pen. Nice gift shop and knowledgeable owners.
In depth and full of cool snakes, a little cramped but well worth a visit.
Had a wonderful time viewing all the various snakes at the Museum. Owner was very nice and knowledgeable. Discounts on gift items with ticket purchase. Will return soon with my grandson.
A must visit if you love the cold blooded members of our planet
Cool place to visit.
This museum has many beautiful live creatures. There is also a wealth of information to read about as you walk through. Fun & creative displays. We had a great time there!
It is a cool museum, but it is rather Small. They boast the most species of any other rattlesnake museum, but they only have 20 or so on display. Nevertheless, it is cheap and it is cool to see the snakes. I would probably go at least once to see it.
Terrifying, fascinating, educational. Get as close as you’d ever want to be with dozens of species of live venomous & non-venomous rattlers, as well as scorpions & tarantulas, plus a wide array of snake-inspired curios & memorabilia, then be awarded a Certificate of Bravery for the experience. Well worth the amazingly low price of admission: $6 adults; $5 AAA/seniors/military; $4 kids.
Cool, but crowded.
What a fun and interesting stop! Not a huge place, but jam packed with great information, memorabilia, and educational information. Animals are well taken care of, and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They are great with groups, and have a large souvenir shop. The location in Old Town is directly across from a parking lot that makes it easily accessible and convenient.
Awesome place to see and learn about snakes. Great gift shop!
A unique experience in old Town.
Very interesting. A great place to visit and learn more about the snakes
What a great experience. Affordable and educational. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable which made our time there even more enjoyable. Support this business!
I'm not a snake fan by any means. But it was interesting and very informative. A good place to go to make sure not olny you but your kids know what to watch out for when your out on a walk or hike. Well worth the admission.
Fascinating displays, friendly and knowledgeable owners! Full-selection giftshop; highly recommend!
About 37 types of rattlesnakes on site in aquariums, but the guy who owns the museum has a collection of about 150 not on display. Kids get to hold a boa constrictor after touring the museum, as well as getting a discount on shirts and hats, and they get a fake tattoo of the logo for the museum. Was a nice experience.
Rattlesnake Museum. What an interesting idea. I had to check it out. Well I don't think of a group of 25 or so rattlesnake terrariums as a museum but more of a rattlesnake Zoo or maybe a reptile house or who knows. I thought it was a wonderful find and very well laid out for a small Museum with lots of types of rattlesnakes from all over the world alive and well and looking back at you. Whatever temperature they keep the place which was pleasant for a human seem to keep the snakes active. I found the displays to be pleasant and simple and the three maybe four rooms to house a really nice variety of rattlesnakes. I think this is a worthy stop along the way for those like me who love those small museums and collections and the variety of life on our planet.
This is an informative, small, interesting museum. This was my 6th, or 7th, visit and great place to bring visitors.
Such a striking exhibit! This is a great little gem, tucked in old town alburquerque. It is a wonderful, and safe, way to see the beautifully deadly animals up close. It had a unique way to teach both the old and young. It albertville seems like it may need a bigger space, which is always good. Go see it for yourself!
Lots of great information and, of course, snakes.
Lots of rattlesnakes on display in 3 rooms. Pretty quick visit.
Scary place.... but cool. I dont like snakes
Great reminder of the past when these places were all up and down Route 66
If you like snakes this the place for you. Amazing diversity of live rattlesnakes. .
A great mix of related collectibles and many live specimens of rattlesnakes along with some non-venemous ones. They had some excellent nature documentaries playing in the main room as well.
This is a charming little place for a fair price. They pack a lot of exhibits into a small area. You could spend 30 minutes here or a few hours if you read all the presented information. I love all the cool merchandise. This is where I got my Craig Ferguson rattlesnake mug!
It small but has a lot of interesting snakes and is cheap
Good place to visit.
Loved the location tucked into the nearby shops so we could spend a few hours walking and shopping. Small but packed with interesting snakes and info.
Very cool and educational. Would recommend to everyone.
This place is awesome. I wasn't expecting so many rattlesnakes! The curator was super friendly. There are live tortoises that room around the place too. It's super small, but its jammed with stuff. I really enjoyed the place and I'm a curmudgeon.
Local business, great store in the front. Got rattled at. I'll never forget this place
I enjoyed my visit so much I bought a really nice coffee mug! Large collection of venomous snakes, as well as other critters. They give a lot of information about the snakes, not just about the species in general but also the background of each snake. Cost of admission includes a certificate of bravery, which I found amusing. A bit tourist trappy but I would definitely go again. Anyone brave enough to go with me? I dare you!
Small but pretty neat. They have several varieties of rattlesnakes on display and some other reptiles.
Good selection of merchandise. Friendly owner.
Live rattle snakes (behind glass) and souvenirs. A fair amount of history and education.
Great spot. Wonderful variety of rattlesnakes and other creepy crawlies. Yes they are live and no you can not handle them. Other interesting displays. Well worth the time and very educational.
This is a really neat place. Owner was friendly and eager to talk to us and tell us anything we wanted to know. Amazed at his collection.
Amazing place to learn about the history of snakes, Gila monsters, and other reptiles. You can view every type of rattlesnake imaginable and read about where their habitat is, and the types of food it eats. Employees are extremely friendly and nice and have no problem answering questions.
I’ve been wanting to come to this place for a few years now. It’s an amazing place with a ridiculously large number of live rattlesnakes with tons of information and very kind and knowledgeable staff. It’s a must see for anyone interested in herpetology, but it’s great even for people who have no prior knowledge of reptiles! 10/10 would come here again if given the chance. If you’re in Albuquerque, stop through this gem of a museum!
So much FUN and educational! Great exhibits and so very worth your time to explore
A small but very impressive museum mestled in old town Albuquerque! From the street you could walk right by this place, but don't! It may not look like much from the outside, but this space houses the largest collection of rattlesnakes and memorabilia anywhere in the world! The many venomous snakes are all lovingly cared for and obviously very healthy. There are informational write-ups on all specimens, with kid-friendly info also available at a kid-friendly height. The place was a brilliant good time and well worth the inexpensive entry-fee. Highly recommended to tourists and locals alike.
Cool place! Big live rattlesnakes of different species. Awesome crocodile and alligator fossils. Great gifts! A must-see if you're in Albuquerque.
Great little stop, tons of snakes and reptiles. Son enjoyed it so much. It was a little cluttered for me, but over all we enjoyed this stop.
This is a really neat place. I went for the first time about fifteen years ago and loved it then. This time was even better! The snakes are all healthy and in good flesh. There isn't that "retilian fug" that is often found in places with numerous reptiles housed in it. I also love that their snakes are not wild-caught. I spent many years working in exotic animal medicine so to be able to be up close to the wide variety of snakes there was a treat. Definitely not for those with a snake phobia but well worth the stop otherwise!
Little pricey for the experience, but I understand the need for the care of the snakes. Great information about snakes and history of different cultures. Staff was very personable.
