REVIEWS OF New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum IN New Mexico

Julie Wells

Beautiful place, very educational.

MasterStryfe

Ok museum, wish it has more variety.

Echo Preston

I kids roll their eyes when I told them where we were going today. Because to a four year old and a six-year-old this sounds like the most boring thing on the planet. But with the displays in the activities available by the end of the day they were saying I want to come back here someday. Good job on bringing science and understanding bagriculture to a level that even a four-year-old in a 6 year old gets excited

Marilyn Kemper

Very well done. I'd recommend this museum for anyone.

Nicole Johnson

Great place! Our children love the events that the museum holds, as well as going to visit the indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Larry Ford

This it it this place for a wedding and it was very nice but very small for like a small reception

Eli Scripps

3 year son loved it so much he wanted to go back after we left. Multiple playgrounds!

Rachel Maurer

If you know anything about farming or ranching in the Southwest, you'll probably be bored as I was. There is little shade outside, so bring water and a hat.

Phil Freeman

Very nicely done.. documents the settling and farming of New Mexico. Would like to spend more time there. Fascinating art, vehicles, and implements. The pistachios and chocolates in the gift shop..oh boy oh boy!

L. Nathaniel Hall

Sherri Foreman

Fun, fun. This is a working farm & a great place for adults, kids & families. It is a New Mexico museum inside but there is a play area for kids & hands on farm equipment etc. Come before 2:00 & after buying your tickets, ask for the free farm cart tour that gives you lots of history & you see all the animals & learn about the farm. There are events & things going on almost daily. Yarn spinning, blacksmith demos, etc. Great place to have an event !

Ashlee Tapia

Not worth it in the off season, do not go. Went on a nice day in October and there was nothing to see but some animals and the blacksmith. Best thing was the free wine tasting.

Stephanie Esparza

Art and venue is beautiful.

Brian

Pretty cool place. Not a whole lot to see outside in terms of animals. Wish I had a guide with me to tell me more about the animal's and farming practices.

Teddie Mo

Fun family place to learn about ranching history and local farm life. The animals are super cute you see.

Annett Rodriguez

You can’t pet the animals, has not much to do and not a lot of farm animals. But it’s interesting.

Mindy N

This place was amazing! So much more than I expected. It was worth the drive from El Paso. I would go again. Staff was extremely friendly and kind. Loved learning here

Patricia Estrada

Mohammad Badawy

Nice place, but only go if you have an event thier

RJAZ 15

Great experience, the kids loved the animals! Only complaint was that the play area didn't have enough for the little kids 1 to 2 years old. Staff was very helpful and nice and the facility was well kept and up to date.

Jennifer Bohnhoff

This place is a treasure. Very informative and interesting museum guides visitors through the history of the mesilla valley from it's earliest human habitation to the present. The outdoor area specializes in Hispanic heritage livestock.

Eric Salas

Aside from the gallery exhibits and artifacts to enjoy, the museum has so much things to offer both for the young and old. From ranching and farming history, to seeing cows getting milked, to watching sheep dogs being trained, to hands-on exhibits that kids love, Western artists, life in the old days — it is a great place to unwind! When I visited the museum, it happened that there was an ongoing event — the 2015 Cowboy Day! So, with just a $5 entrance fee, I was in for a nice treat. There is the historic Green Bridge. It is considered the oldest and longest Pratt through-truss bridge in New Mexico. Spanning 133 feet and 16 feet wide, it is also the second-oldest surviving highway bridge in the state, and the state’s oldest steel highway bridge. They’ll teach you how to train dogs to become sheep dogs. The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is a true local treasure and a definite must-see when you are in Las Cruces!

Claudia Ramirez

The tour was rushed. We didn't get to see the whole museum

Tina Sturgill

We took a tour of the animals on the golf cart and on Saturday's you can have a pony ride. There were also some very beautiful brightly colored paintings on exhibit as well as old farm impliments and women's clothing from long ago.

Kim Sherrell

The grandkids loved the interactive displays and also the live demos.

Debbie McCurdy

What a local treasure!! The blacksmith shop is a must see. The annual ice cream sundae event was too much fun. Races for the kids with great prizes.

Cristy Brown

I love sitting and taking in all the cattle n other farm animals. The art the history n crafts..food

Anita Habermann-Riggins

This is one of the best museums I've been to in a long time!!!

Joyce Ann Burkhart

Nice place to visit. Not much to do.

LeAnne Salazar-Montoya

Great place to take kids and learn about NM heritage n ranching.

Crystal Bales

The renovations they've made to the museum itself are so amazing!! The new exhibits they had when I were interactive and fun. I don't think I've felt this way about a museum since I lived in Colorado. Walking through connected me with the history of the region and I loved how there was a metate that you could grind corn with. Hit close to home.

Grant Taylor

Attending a recent full-day meeting at the museum necessitated an internet connection. Could connect to the wifi network, but not the internet. A colleague experienced the same thing a couple weeks earlier. Internet connectivity is crucial for a conference space.

Raylene Snider

Not much to see on the farm side. Dairy farm nothing to see. Sheep and goats... nothing... and the barn... nothing available.... but galleries inside were super.

Dan Reynolds

Great place for a family outing. Our kids loved seeing all the animals.

Mark L

A must see, great exhibits and staff

Abdel-Hameed Badawy

At the entrance there are two Owls who seem to live there. They look beautiful. The museum is lovely with breathtaking view of the Organization Mountains.

Wendy Illa

We had a great time at the Farm and Ranch museum during their event Cowboy days 2018. I highly recommend the event. The event included food/drink stands along with toy and jewelery stands. They had women and men dressed in antique cowboy/cowgirl wear.

LRGRenegade

So much history and cool exhibits. The blacksmiths work is awesome too

Frank Gutierrez

A really good place to visit. Check out the cattle and long horns. They have numerous western art, sculptures and cultural exhibits along with a small auditorium, gift shop, and a gorgeous Organ Mountain view from the large open patio. The patio is lined with bricks with the brand symbols of the many ranchers I was told that helped create the facility.

carla bankhead

Great tour...beautiful spot to visit..

adam cohen

Very fun museum, especially when the animals are out. The Hurd exhibit is very nice, too.

Moochies Colliers

Great place. The exhibits are always great. The animals are fun to watch too. The High Desert gift shop is a great place to browse and buy from trinkets, pistachios to wine.

Federico Levario

Very nice and clean. Very hospitable.

Judy Maxwell

Great place to go

Anastasya Griffith

Nice demonstrations and an abundance of artifacts and replicas. The displays were nice and well laid out. My only criticism is the lack of information plaques in case you wanted more information.

David Boland

Great place to take the family.

Francisco Rodriguez

Great place for the family, they offer pony/ horse ride for $5. Really nice place to visit and learn part of NM history.

Karen Del Rio

Beautiful place to visit & excellent service!

Teri Self

Very Nice little Museum, Kids all loved seeing farm animals up close. Also had a Blast in Kid's room - stairs leading up to slide, riding little tractors & gathering (plastic) eggs & sending them down a shute to the ground floor. The farm & Ranch also has a good number of Art exhibits in their Gallery, intriguing Antiques, interactive stories, & so much to captivate even small kids.

Kelly Swan

Its kinda cool. But you can't get close to the animal. They should have like a petting zoo. My grandbaby loved the train but not long enough.

Paula Landau

I went a lot as a kid. The exhibits are neat and well laid out. Blacksmith is one of my favorite memories. Went to a wedding here it was beautiful. They have many rooms for events.

Osvaldo Ramirez

Beautiful place to host a wedding and reception

Constance Nipper

A must see for every member of the family. The New Mexico Farm and Ranch is full of history and has new special displays frequently. You can even make your own ice cream - no matter how old or how young you are! Most surprising is the ride around the premises. The guide makes even the history of the various breeds of cattle on the premises interesting! There are gift's of all kinds, there is local wine, there is food, there is a blacksmith that makes useful items for sale (my first purchase was steel letter opener). And don't forget the dairy farm!

Heather Hughes

It was fun

Tc axtell

Really it's A amazing place. Keep in mind this place is always better when there's Events. They have all things AG regarding events. They do come milking Animal judging and even rock shows. The cost to get into events changes based on what's going on but over all just A great place.

Mary Rodriquez

Great place for holding group gatherings!!

Adriana Velazquez

First time there and totally loved it make sure to get a guided tour we had a gentleman named Bob he was a sweetheart and explained everything on the ranch

Larry Flick

Visited the Museum today. Blacksmith demonstration was interesting. History of farming was good except it didn't bring into light today's farming, seem to stop in the 60's.

Amy Rynell

Neat place for kids especially. Not expensive. We were there on a Saturday and were able to do a pony ride. Would have spent more time there but there's no restaurant. Recommend bringing a picnic.

Kelsee Ellis

Attended a wedding here. They don’t believe in air conditioning, it was so HOT the bride had to change into shorts. The staff was slow and didn’t seem to care about efficiency.

Stanford Locke

Great place to take your family

Sylvette Julian

Really enjoyed the whole experience--learned more than I ever expected. My sister from NJ loved it too.

Chris Engledowl

Great place to spend a couple of hours. They have a few different events throughout the year and it is geared toward having things for kids to do. You can visit the animals (cows, goats, sheep, horses), watch milking and horse riding demonstrations, pony rides, a chuck wagon that gives out free samples of homemade bisquits with molasses and cowboy coffee, and food trucks. Inside there is a nice museum designed to be interactive, some games for kids, arts and crafts, and an inside playground (there's one outside too) and a play place in the giftshop. Definitely recommend checking it out! There are a few days a year when it's free and is otherwise quite cheap to get in!

Thomas Farish

Fun exhibits, outdoor and indoor. If you have some time in Las Cruces, definitely go see this place!

Hugo Hernandez

Great museum exhibiting artifacts of the southwest and New Mexico history. Indoor and outdoor exhibits. Free parking. Entrance fee for family reasonably priced. Sometimes free events offered. Livestock available to see as well.

New Mexico

Great place to hold a formal party with catering.

Gloria N. Leslie

My husband and I go every chance we can just to walk the grounds and see the new events and things at the museum. Great place to take the family. Haven't met a person we didn't like yet! Most times we don't have to pay to walk around and look at things. We visit the farm animals, look at the antique farm equipment and pay a visit to the blacksmith. Other times we pay $5 to enter a special event. Not bad at all! The last event we attended there was $5 a carload. It was the 2018 Home Grown a New Mexico Food Show & Gift Market. LOVED it!

Laura Gentry

There was a lot to see and learn about. We really did enjoyed our visit

Laura Dixon

Great museum, lots if wonderful artifacts and displays. Wish we had gone during an event to see more. Gift shop is nice, but snack bar food is all packaged or frozen and microwaveable. Enjoyed reading the biographies of New Mexicans over the generations. Great interactive displays, a wonderful place to take kids. Various livestock too.

Shelley Cole

Love the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum, just wish it was free like the other museums In Las Cruces.

Stephen Tures

One of the better places to take kiddos in the El Paso / Las Cruces area. They have a nice indoor and morning-shaded park, and a few other kiddo play spots for cooler days. They do pony rides, cow milking demonstrations, and blacksmith demonstrations. They also have a cute store with great gifts and a small cafe with basic food options (nothing special but reasonably priced and good if you're in a pinch). I love taking my kiddo here.

Sarah Boo

This was truly a great place to visit! Not only was this whole museum very entertaining and quite amazing but they're staff was also very polite and respectful! Feel free to ask them anything on your mind they definitely have got the answer just for you! Free WiFi as well, so make sure to ask front desk for the WiFi code! If you ever want to just hang get to know a few things about types of fashion from back in the day or how and what they used to cook on way before electric stoves were made, make sure to go check this place out! Definitely not a boring site or experience coming here!!!

Bruce Timmons

There were abundant artifacts and displays without it being cluttered.

Jazmyn Young

Beautiful place & very friendly staff!

Ruben Acosta

Very lovely place

Whitney Whetten

This review may not help many people because I attended here for a yoga festival. However, it is very neat and beautiful. There are many different types of rooms that can be used for all sorts of purposes. I would definitely recommend it for conferences and different types of events. Perhaps when I'm back in Cruces in the future I will get a chance to check out the actual museum

Damacio T. Bernal, Jr.

It was great and we even got a tour to see all the animals. the inside had a tremendous amount of displays, pictures and explanations of the technology that was used to make up America. I was lucky because on Wednesdays, it was free for people over 60. Our tour started at 1 pm, but only enough room for 8 people at a time. One of them was the tour guide and the other was the driver. Call ahead for any community gatherings and programs.

Shawna Harker

My kids love visiting!

JohnE Kimball

If you are anywhere close to Las Cruces... Don't miss this place! Great displays. Go when the blacksmith is working - check the website - I think it's Friday and Saturday for sure... He has hunting and kitchen knives for sale that are very nice and reasonably priced.

Guy Mendt

A wonderful museum that includes living exhibits (farm animals). Inside you can walk through the agricultural history of Southern New Mexico, including a display on the agrarian practices of the pre-European native peoples. Well worth spending 2-3 hours.

Jacqueline Pountney

Great historical facts and great animals

Laura

I loved the history. Kids loved the interactive exhibits and there were a couple of owls just hanging around out front. Had a great day here.

Jackie Teague

I was here for a wedding which was scheduled after the museum closed for the day. The space for both the wedding and the reception were comfortable and spacious. The in-house catering was excellent and the reception dinner was creative and delicious. I can't comment on the museum proper, but the glimpse I had of it was promising.

Jolene Barbee

Went to 'Magnificat' breakfast About 64 women were there - this year's speaker was outstanding & personal at the same time. Next year's breakfast will be hosted by our new Bishop! You should make a point to be there!

Jing F

Great value for the $5 admission. There are a lot of exhibitions and you can easily spend an afternoon there. The milking demonstration and livestock tour are especially interesting. Both the milking guy and the tour guide were very nice and knowledgeable.

Kendall Holdeman

I was here for a meeting. There conference room is very well equipped. It is set up so you can have three places where your power point presentation shows. This allows the whole room to see it easily. The place was clean and kept clean while we were there. It was definitely an enjoyable experience.

Vanna Granger

This is a beautiful place to bring guests from out of town, or to schedule an event such as a wedding. The museum is interesting, and covers NM history, the living museum outside has several types of farm and ranch animals. Plus a couple unique play areas for children 10 and under. A fun and educational place for adults and kids alike.

jerry everhart

I love the Farm and Ranch Museum. A variety of exhibits. Nice building and gift area. The Hurd display was impressive.

Monica Charter

This museum is so much fun to visit! We went a few times on field trips for my kid, there’s so much to do.

Sheila S

I love seeing places that have the historical sets to them

Gypsy Rose

Jimmy Plane was fantastic and because of him we are going back to take my grandson to ride the ponies.

Garth Wilson

We had a great time at this venue.

Scott McLaughlin

A really nice museum of the Southwest. Well run, clean, neat, well organized, informative, and even a snack bar with NM wine and salsa. Outdoor displays of tractors, farming implements, a blacksmith shop, etc. There are also small and large meeting rooms, a courtyard and grassy area suitable for receptions, events. A surprisingly cool place.

Susann Mikkelson

Some interesting exhibits; courteous staff, generally speaking. Conference facility is nice, but internet access is terrible.

Andy Lee

The front desk people and everyone else at the museum were super friendly. You get to see a somewhat working farm and we saw a caw get milked while the cowboy explained how the machine worked to milk the cow as well as letting us know how much the cow produced as well as the care of the cow. The permanent exhibits about life in New Mexico were well done. If you're in the area, definitely a place I'd recommend for a couple of hours.

Pat Chambers

lots to see. we are disabled. they have agolf cart so they can take you around. If you are disabled Vet be sure to show your card to cashier

Matthew Bezzant

Take a step back and experience what it's like to be a farm kid. Get a dose of new Mexico history and how things used to be made. It really is a fun place. I wish they would help people see how we really get our food a month slaughtering and butchering of animals would be a good addition although I'm sure some people would object. Not a bad place to kill an afternoon.

Rebecca Pace

Very educational and fun for the kids. Spent most of the day there for our $11 (admission for 3). Very few animals other then beef cows or I would have given it a 5 star.

Rita Suina

Wonderful exhibit of farm life. Take in the beautiful sculpture in the lobby. It's value just increased because of the passing of the sculptor.

Joe Smith

Interesting exhibits. Well maintained. Pet's are not allowed. Not even my 5 lb toy poodle that I carry in a sling and she never touches the ground. Never barks. Not even allowed outside.

Cindy Kowell

Wonderful museum pf NM farming and ranching!! Very reasonable admission. Veterans take your proof of service/ID get in for $2!

Tugba Turel

We stopped by on our way to Tuscon with my family. İt is great place to see. İf you go at 3 you will see they milking cows. Lots of different cows and two different play area for kids which was awesome,my kids loved it. Will be back on March just to visit this place because they are having cowboy days. Looking forward to seeing this event

deborah cooper

The museum itself and related exhibits are wonderful, however in this trip we were there to rent the outdoor amphitheatre for an event. So disappointing. They took our money for the rental (for a wedding), but had not bothered to pull weeds or clean up the trash from the amphitheatre. This area is managed by a vendor, not the museum staff.

Isis Gabaldon

A great place to learn about NM agriculture. They also offer amazing summer programs for your littles and host many family-oriented events.

Elise Martinez

Great little tour. Friendly staff.

Ernest Brown

I enjoyed the tour a great experience and educational.

BILL COBERLY

Great experience! Good history and displays very informative!

christopher marines

This place gives you alot for the $5 entrance fee the place is so big we ran out of time and want to go back again ,lots of history and live stock lots to see here

Bob Chambers

Very neat place. A lot of information to absorb in the short 90 minutes we were there. Well worth the visit though. Especially the native gardens outside.

Ruth Rose

Well designed museum, covers agricultural history of the area, something of interest for all ages, lots of live farm / ranch animals. Nice gift shop with snacks and drinks.. Both indoor and outdoor playgrounds for children. Many outdoor exhibits.

Al Montoya

Great place to take the kids... Animal of the farm...on display.. wonderful place and modern as well.

Mary Jane

This is definitely the biggest and most extensive museum in town. The grounds are well kept and many of the exhibits are interactive. This is a great place to bring high energy children as there is a lot to do outdoors.

jeff h

jedediah manges

Very cool experience didn't get to see the whole thing was there for an event definitely worth the stop alot to see

Mike Frese

A great experience! We went for the Peter Hurd exhibit and enjoyed it a lot. However, there's plenty more to see. Windmills, antique farm equipment, farm animals, different varieties of cattle, including longhorns. What's not to like!

Ruth Burkett

Wonderful museum of old west and farming. Fantastic art museum with rotating exhibits. Must see in Las Cruces.

Nice museum, nice people who operate the property. Blacksmith shop great, takes you back to early settler's.

christine bennett

Delightful, informative perspectives of New Mexico history

Diane Gurule

Kids and adults alike enjoyed the saddle and leather stamping. The volunteers taught icecream making hands on. Kind learning experience. We enjoyed the entire experience.

Phil C

Excellent facility with interesting exhibits! History and Farming side by side. We really enjoyed our visit. Mac was our guide on the golf cart "familiarization" tour and he did a grand job of explaining both the outdoor exhibits and the displays of equipment and animals. A good guy with a great source of knowledge. This museum is well worth a visit and reckon a couple of hours. Definitely an early morning stop in hot weather, especially if you want to walk around the external exhibits after the brief golf cart tour.

Alice Gonzales

I love the farm and ranch museum Alot

Lourdes Ibarra

Enjoyed the museum, food and watching the farm animals. Nice way to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Ella Jones

We absolutely loved it there. Thank you for a great event. Everyone was amazing

seldon wright

Got there in the evening. Farm closed. Museum still open. Will have to go back for a whole day.

Ana Perez

Loved seeing the pair of owls, and the Homegrown event was very fun. I bought a few pieces of jewelry and food items. And I enjoyed them all.

This is soley for the gift shop. Growing up in NM and now living away, this is the place to stop and stock up on NM green and red chile pistachios, dip mixes and seasoning salt before heading home.

sandra moulton

Nice. Fun place for a family outing. Interesting things to see and learn. Staff was mostly friendly, but a little nervous with lots of children there. They have added a ton and made some nice improvements.
