The displays were numerous and well lit and maintained and educational, but the employees were not very informative except in the gift store. They have many specimens in large glass cases and a few displays of collecting and identifying tools. Great resource, but not particularly entertaining. Still a good way to spend an hour and beat the heat.

Ambrossia 188

Absolutely beautiful rocks. Some for sale. Good for all ages. Small and quiet. Great place to kill time.

Rasma Cox

Definitely professional looking and amazingly oraganized. The one thing that was not good about it was they didn't have geology students working in it. They had the minerals organized by where they came from and didn't seem to be overcrowded and the minerals were will lit. Another thing they did was put Flourite from the Galena Mine in NM in light which is fading it.

Peter Sumner

Felipe Lizana

Kelli Kallenborn

The museum is somewhat small but the specimens are beautiful. It is more geology than you will see in a general museum. The gift shop is fairly good, too. There is also a restroom.

The geology museum at the New Mexico Bureau of Gelology is great. The new building was opened in 2015 and is very nice. Beautiful design. The museum is extensive with a world class collection. The collection hallmarks the geology of New Mexico as well as samples from around the world. Very knowledgeable staff. Great location on the campus of New Mexico Tech.

A little small but very well stocked. They have every kind of mineral I could think of in well lit glass cases organized by type and region in which it can be found. I especially enjoyed the gemstones and the glowing stones exhibits. They also have a large selection of stones for sale.

The gems and minerals here are very interesting; however, after a while they all start looking alike. Unless you are a geologist or a rockhound, it would be hard to spend an hour here. The price is right though : FREE!!

Aching for something to do in Socorro? If you are a gem or mineral fan, then be sure and stop over at the NMT Mineral Museum. Probably the largest and most interesting and colorful mineral collection in the United States. Amazing displays of Smithsonite, Wulfenite, and others whose names I cannot remember. Some smaller mineral specimens are available for sale. HINT - found an interesting rock or mineral that you can't identify? Bring it by. In minutes you might be interacting with the head of their geology department who will provide a wealth of information on your specimen!

Philip Trueax

This museum is amazing! A must see if you are in Socorro.

Claudia Crigamire

AMAZING

Althea Atherton

Sofia Soriano

This little museum is so cool! It has so many crystals and they even sell some of them.

Straight Edge

I think that this mineral museum is amazing the amount of minerals contained within this medium is outstanding silver, gold ,diamond Etc. Update the memories ian has been moved to a new location to house or I should say to better house the amount of minerals on display the building is simply beautiful

Kari C

Clean, friendly, and fun. One of the largest collection of rocks I have seen. There is so much you can learn from just going for a small visit. The book Shop just across the lobby is a cute little visit in itself. Ranging items from stuff to do with kids to having books that will teach you more about your area. Don't forget to ask about the search game they have for the mineral museum.

Jeff Pesula

This was my first chance to see the museum in many years. Compared to being buried in the old Workman building it was stunning. There are new mineral samples, but more importantly everything is easier to access and view. NMT has always had world class minerals on display in my opinion, and now it is easier to view them. They also have a nice selection for purchase from 'pretty rocks' for $0.50 on upwards through a few hundred dollars depending on what you want to spend.

Aaron Combs

Sheila bendixen

This facility has a beautiful collection of rocks and gems.

Brian Kirkpatrick

Wow! What a great exhibit. Fantastic collection and free to the public. We just stopped by to stretch our legs, but what a surprise. They even offered few samples for sale at very reasonable prices. We bought a few as the proceeds go towards purchasing more cases so the exhibit can continue to grow. A must stop if you are interested in gems and or minerals.

Alexandria Rowe

Fun place to see. Amazing and beautiful minerals.

This place is a gem! Pun intended. My daughter is I to geology so we decided to make a quick stop. I thought it would be boring. It is not. I could not believe the display of really cool minerals. It was truly stunning. And it's free! Also the petrified wood in the waterfall area outside was very relaxing.

GREAT MUSEUM OF MINERAL SPECIMENS. WOW. TRUE FIND!

Russell Kegley

A true marvel of a small museum, mainly featuring mineral specimens from both New Mexico as well as around the world. In viewing the minerals in dozens of display cases, you get a feel for the variety and beauty of these natural wonders. They also have a well-stocked gift shop for rock and mineral collectors, and sell specimens of many kinds of minerals. Well worth a visit when you are in the area!

NumberOne

Best mineral collection in New Mexico. There is a permanent collection and a section with some minerals for sale. They also have a nice gift shop.

Joseph Malins

Oh man, if you love pretty, unusual and beautiful rocks and crystals, then come here. Outside of maybe the Gems exhibit in the Museum of Natural History in New York, the best display of crystals you can get, and this is FREE! I would say probably the best (maybe only?) Thing worth doing in Socorro.
