This Museum corresponds to the category of Museum.
My wife and I had a great time here. We really didn't know what to expect but there were beautiful textiles, artwork, decorative skulls, tin work and many other booths. Luckily the booths were in the shade.
One of the best and most entertaining museums in Santa Fe.
World class
Very interesting and amazing the things people make that are considered folk art.
What a great place to visit. If you are a resident there is no charge to visit the museum. Beautiful place and exhibits.
This is such a fun museum! The Girard gallery contributions were fun and so unique, not set up like a normal museum. Do the free walking tour if you can, they give you some good information and helps you see things you'd otherwise miss yourself. Give yourself about 3 hours or more to do this museum justice. I think I stayed for almost 5.
The exhibits are interesting and super cool. Staff was friendly. Overall a great cool experience!
Fantastic! A must go to place. The collections were awesome
The main room of this museum is packed with an incredibly eclectic collection of figures and scenes everywhere you look, up, down, right, left, and then you turn around and there's even more behind you. It can be overwhelming at first, but if you zoom in to individual scenes and figures, you find some very cool art.
This incredible collection was the highlight of my trip to Santa Fe. We loved learning about Alexander Girard. I could spend three days in n this place. Highly recommended.
Okay, so if you would be interested in folk art, I think this museum would be amazing. There is an overwhelming selection of pieces and everything is laid out in a logical way. If you aren't interested in folk art and aren't being forced here by your mom and aunt on a family excursion like I was than you could skip a stop here. I had no idea what to make of anything and it looked to me like a massive doll collection. 15 minutes was enough for me where my mom could have easily spent all afternoon meandering around. Wifi works flawlessly!
A nice combination of local and international folk art. Highly recommended.
Nice venue for wedding reception!
Liked this museum better than any others in SF
Beautiful grounds with a sweeping view of the city and mountains. Feels like Somme sort of sky temple out of a fantasy novel. there's a great play area for children inside too.
A world class museum.
A fantastic collection! Well worth the visit!
Excellent displays of Native clothing and art. Don't miss.
Definitely needs repeat visits - there is so much to take in. Fascinating exhibits well put together!
Great exibits and displays
Wow, what s fun place.
There is so much to explore and look it. The artwork is amazing.
Fun collection of miniatures.
Holy smokes! This place is unreal. And the location is convenient - away from the hectic Plaza. This art museum is a must see. It is clear after exploring the museum for two hours that the curators know what folk art is and how to tell a story with it.
Very interesting exhibits. A good learning experience
So much fun to see all of the crafts from different cultures and we loved the kids play area!
An amazing little museum with New Mexican and International folk art, and tons of information discussing the nature of folk art vs fine art and mass produced art. There are a few hands on activities for children, but a lot of the exhibits are rather wordy, so to keep kids interested you will need to point things out and simplify phrasing. There are tons of cool sights kids might enjoy, but keeping them interested may be difficult, especially with any kid under 10.
It is a must go in Santa Fe.
Great place
Great museum for all ages.
Great changing exhibits. New exhibit coming in may
Creative and whimsical!
Fun and interesting exhibits.
Literally dreamt a thousand, beautiful dreams seeing the new Alexander Girard exhibit. The displays and curation are absolutely perfect. The details- exquisite... High on design, I bought a $24 Green Eyes mug from the gift store at closing- stumbled back out into the real world...but if only I could, I’d live forever in that moment of timeless design.
They detail the stories of the artists and offer insight as to what the artwork represents, how it is/was used, and how it's made.
Lots of art to see and everyone seemed to enjoy it they're guidebooks to tell a little bit about the art but I didn't find as much deep information as I would have liked
Great experience with a diverse range of cultural art.
Nice place to enjoy...
An overwhelming experience in the best sense. So many wonderful works of international folk art and so well displayed. It was like being in a beautiful dream.
Must GO!!! Beautifully represented art from all over the world. Absolutely loved it! The different attires and the reasoning behind it is well explained.
We love this place and have been there many times. We will return.
Unexpectedly captivating. Well worth the visit.
Great small museum
One of my favorite museums. A must see in Santa Fe. Astounding permanent collection. Fascinating special shows. Love the gift shop too. Have found affordable, one of a kind pieces created by international folk artists. Also very cool socks.
Lloyd's of folk art. Lots of it.
Great folk art collections and shops. Helpful staff. Plenty of resting places.
Anaxing collections from all over the world. A must-see in Santa Fe.
The Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico has been regularly voted as Santa Fe’s “Favorite Museum” since it houses the largest collection of traditional folk art in the world. About 135,000 artifacts are displayed in the museums four building wings. The curators of the museum traveled around the world to find folk artists, collect their work, and document their cultural traditions. The miniature exhibit was awesome! These amulets came from around the world. Exhibits in this museum were organized. You can follow the numbered displays via a guide book. This museum is worth a visit.
WOW! Located up on Museum Hill with other museums and the botanical garden. I was inspired as an artist and craftsperson by the fantastical Girard Wing and loved a current exhibition on the history of Mexican music. A little outside of downtown but easy to get to by bus, shuttles and car so keep on your list of things to do! You will not regret it.
So much that you have to make more then one trip!

Finally made it here! Most unusual place & collection. Personally, and I must emphasize this is my personal experience, the Girard exhibit space was difficult for me to process and absorb - a profusion of objects. But what interesting things! The rest of the museum I just loved....the exhibits, the information provided, hands-on items....just terrific!
Interesting, but visually overwhelming. If you're interested in figurines from around the world, this is the place for you.
This is my favorite museum in New Mexico. Completely unique. Great for kids as well as adults because of the massive collection of toys from around the world .
The Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe has the best examples of folk art in the US. Admission is $12 for adults, Kids 16 & under are free. Located on Museum Hill, you can hit several major exhibitions in one day...and there's definitely plenty to see for more than 1 day. I particularly enjoyed the Flamenco exhibit while we were here this time - there was a flamenco guitar concert in the middle of the day. In the front room, Tibetan Monks were beginning an intricate mandala. Definitely a LOT of bang for your buck! Wonderful for children - my teens had no problem spending 2+ hours in here and I felt they really saw things that opened their perspectives.
Visually glorious.
Annual flea market to raise funds for the museum is always a good time. Lots of art and fun all around!
Wonderful guides. Amazing the amount of folk art on display here.
This museum is outstanding! Its exhibits are intriguing and educational and once a year they have a brilliant dis de los muertos festival with dancers, music, and food with face painting and lots of fun activities for children and adults alike. The exhibits I have seen here are so full of detail that despite visiting the museum multiple times I feel I have not seen everything within it And I intend to visit multiple times again.
Very interesting museum of folk art from around the world.
Very beautiful and relaxing and history that one needs to go back in time and to know so many famuos folks coming out of new Mexico and the restaurant is very very great
Highly interesting and unique ... I love that they encourage using cameras...
One of the best if not the best displays of art I have seen in the world was the exhibit on miniatures of all sorts. The second time through I was still seeing items I did not see before. A friend who has been there several times over the years is still surprised at what see has missed. A must see museum in Santa Fe.
The collection of Alexander Girard is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in any museum. However, I should have gone to this room last, as the rest of the museum is an anticlimax. Go to the Girard exhibit and skip the rest.
An awesome museum, mostly focused on Hispanic and American Indian folk art, but not exclusively, by any means. I've been there twice and want to go again and spend more time there. I think they can provide an audio tour and I'd like to do that.
This is an outstanding museum, already want to visit it again
Quite enjoyable.
Folk Art Market vendors have reduced prices from 20-70 % for the most part so they don't have to pay for shipping back to their country. Expect crowds as a result.
I always bring my out-of-town guests here. It is very informative, beautifully exhibited. I recommend it!
A very good experience with miniature realistic sets
The displays are in themselves a work of art.
Awesome!
Too big too much for me....
Must see. Vast collection of folk art from all over the world. Well marked guide books. The Alexander Girard: A Designer's Universe is a must see. Very inspirational. One few museums that let you take photos.
An amazing place to visit.
So fun! Plan on several hours to really enjoy all the miniatures and crafts from around the world
Lovely museum with more artifacts on display than I could see in one visit. The gift shop was also nice.
Such a neat historical place! Has everthing to do with the original people of these lands. Alot of actual history and the culture of the surrounding areas and how they came to be what they are today. Facts of history along with present day standings.
Beyond expectations!
Very nice.
Nice native american culture.
A great place to visit for the whole family! Makes our 6 y.o. fall in love with museums!
Well laid out Museum with a wealth of fascinating displays, and toys from cultures across the world.
Beautiful facility and grounds. Interesting collections of folk art.
One of our family's favorite places to visit and re-visit. Quality of the exhibitions is first rate. Great gift shop, especially for holiday gifts, friendly staff and clean facilities. As part of Museum Hill complex, the parking was ample and the location above Santa Fe breathtakingly beautiful. There is a lot to look at here for a relatively small to medium sized museum. Make sure it is on your list to visit when in Santa Fe.
The best museum anywhere.
Very fun and large standing exhibit of figurines in amazingly detailed settings. Kids love it! The rotating exhibits are always interesting. We saw beaded jewelry and fashion from all over the world. The international Hispanic exhibit was also very cool. My friend really enjoyed the traditional skirts.
The festival was amazing! By far one of the greatest things to do in Santa Fe. There were a lot of interactive things to do for children and adult.
IFAM was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! An experience I will not ever forget.....WOW!!
Very cool museum with lots of interesting exhibits
Great exhibits!
Lovely experience. A true experience of the many cultures of this beautiful planet.
This was an amazing experience. I highly recommend spending an afternoon here. We were glad we did!
Great permanent and rotating art. The trampoline art exhibit was an eye opener.
Wonderful and affordable!
Beautiful place and museums.
I didn't love this place. Kind of small. Lots of toys and miniatures in the grand hall. It does have an electric mix of international pieces. I was there less than an hour. Not worth 12$ but it is a good deal as part of the 30$ culture pass.
My associates and I visited this fine collection recently and we felt it was necessary to clarify that this is... just... A huge amount of dolls. If you're hoping to see culture relayed through other mediums and anything older than predominantly from the 1960's, you should probably find another museum. Unless you love about an acres worth of dolls. That are often existentially creepy. If that's the case, enjoy!
Really cool art museum. Great with kids. So much diverse art from all over the world. Definitely a must in Santa Fe.
Amazing displays. Always a joy.
This place is an absolute hidden gem! Do not go to Santa Fe without making a stop here. There are many large rooms filled with colorful folk art collected from all over the world from antique miniatures up to modern day cultural murals and everything in between. Give yourself at least two hours to do this museum justice. Free parking and on plaza with other museums. Don't miss this venue.
didnt show my games dev work not happy!
An absolutely amazing museum... information I never knew. I'm so glad I went
Incredible museum. I highly recommend it.
A more apt name for this museum would be the: “Museum of International Folk Art MINIATURES”. Other than the extensive displays of miniatures, I recollect viewing a few pieces of folk art in the basement display area.
Absolutely love this place! My Mom also loved this place as well. I learned quite a bit of all the cultures that are presented here. Also enjoy looking at all the beautiful jewelry wishing I could buy it for yourself and/or your mom but are a little pricey for a college student's budget.
This is a place to spend hours wandering. I was there three hours, and would happily go back tomorrow. There's a lot to see, most all of it beautiful and intricate and worth a few minutes study apiece. Make sure to grab one of the free guide books or audio guides, for context and history of the pieces. All around marvelous place well worth the $12 entry- and if you're planning to hit up several museums in the state, or just want to be able to return the next day for anything, get the year pass. It pays for itself in three trips to any of the participating sites.
Wheel chair accessable, friendly enviroment, and alot to see. They could change the name from indian to aboriginal though.
That such a collection of treasures have been assembled in one place is nothing less than miraculous. It's a vibrant, colorful collection that brings together the spirits of peoples around the world. It's a definite must-see, though I recommend the guided tours so as to gain a greater context as to what you're seeing.
What a gem of a museum! We loved the booklet describing the exhibits so we could cruise at our own pace. Excellent curation for such a vast collection! What a joy to experience the many different cultures and colors and skill. Well worth a visit when in Santa Fe.
They have great gift shops and exhibits are much more thorough than I expected
Very cool place. I used to go with my mom when I was a kid and now I take my son.
Overwhelming in abundance, imagination, and detail!
This is a must-see. It is eye candy. I don't know if it's possible to take it all in and just one trip. I need to get here again and spend a longer amount of time viewing the collection.
Amazing cultural experience but some exhibits were under construction when we visited.
Great collection of collections, with many displays demonstrating the rich traditions from around the world.
Great museum ! Highly recommended to get the museum pass!
Awesome place! I didn’t realize how huge it was. Staff is great as well!
There is a lot of history here on Museum Hill! Plenty of artifacts and pieces of artwork from around the world during different ages of time. This is a place for all ages. The Botanical Garden is serene. They host yoga classes and activities for the children. Special events are held here and regardless of what is happening in the area, there is always enchanting things happening.
whoa! grand displays of folk art from around the world over time. do not rush.
I love this museum. My 3rd visit. Always something new to see.
Really cool place to check out. The exhibits are well done.
Very interesting but almost visually over stimulating. So much to see.
We LOVED this museum - tons of fascinating, weird art from all over the world and many different cultural traditions. Several hands-on kid activity stations were a major highlight.
Very one of a kind. I enjoy every exhibit. Best museum gift shops ever.
A interesting museum packed with lots of folk art. Each piece is well lit, and displayed near other similarly themed art. It is interesting to see the take that different cultures offer for similar subjects. There is also a huge section dedicated to an industrial artist, which felt a bit out of place but otherwise was interesting.
Wonderful museum. A must visit when you are in Santa Fe. There are constantly changing exhibits, well curated. The docents are extremely helpful and friendly.
A wonderful exhibit. You will be awed and amazed. A must see So many beautiful creations.
Amazing breadth of folk art. Give yourself lots of time!
Stellar opening for Aguas. Shout out to Folk Article for having the vision to bring in community leaders like Israel Haros Francisco Lopez. You are keeping the beacon on for young people.
Fantastic exhibit of folk art from all over the world. You gain an understanding of the rich diversity of craft art - inspiring to all ages.
Best collection ever! Great video on eclectic table settings.
This is a very beautiful collection of folk art. The displays are very interesting. The museum gift shop is also very nice!
One of the best museums I ever visited, the art is amazing, what a treat. Make sure to visit a boutique, you can buy some very unique hand-made items there!
Great! So much to take in...
Exceptional collection of art from our area. Tribal art at its finest in a well coordinated and beautifully presented museum.
Simply... The best folk art collection from around the world. Amazing gift shop. Check out the gallery of concious and the peruvian art exhibit... a must go if you visit SF NM.
Do not miss this museum! Delightful look at the history of the area and peoples through various types of art, contemporary back to native and colonial Spanish.
Great exhibits
Very interesting carvings and colorful displays.my 6 year old grandson had a blast watching some of the displays where figures move.enjoyed the masks and activities provided
Impressive collection of folk art on display. The traveling display was also amazing! The entry fee was reasonable.
Great event
I've been here twice and loved it both times. They've worked hard to make sure this museum is interactive for kids considering that it's an art museum. Really neat room if you go down the elevator and they have a great playroom too!
Interedting. Almost too much to take in in one visit. Cell service blocked wifi is free.
A remarkable museum located in Santa Fe on Museum Hill with beautiful collections from around the world including paintings, textiles, carvings and ceramics. The Alexander Girard collection is especially impressive. There is also a very nice cafe on the museums grounds where you can enjoy a delicious lunch and a view overlooking to the South of Santa Fe.
A Santa Fe must-visit.
Great place to visit! There is so much to see and do. There is even a little play area for children. My daughter and I had a blast there!
A wonderful place to take the whole family. You learn so much history and see beautiful art. There’s even a trail next to the museum! Highly recommended!
Worth spending time on a variety of interesting and helpful exhibits.
Amazing collection of folk art. Excellent museum.
International Folk Art Museum, a must visit when in Santa Fe. The new Girard exhibit is wonderful. Of course the Girard wing, a treasure trove of international Folk Art.
Amazing! The collection is unbelievable.
The yearly gathering or artists all over the world.
OMG!!! What a fabulous museum. Never has there been so much folk art under one roof. Mr.Girard was a man ahead of his time in collecting all 100,000+ items. The displays are amazing and the variety is not to be believed. Best museum in Santa Fe, by far. Go today. You will not be disappointed. If in the area put it number one on your list. Then plan to spend many enjoyable hours. In fact make it a destination stop right now.
I didn't even realize how long I was in there. There's a lot. It's cool. And interesting. Worth it. Nice student pricing.
This is one of the funnest museums with the most beautiful exhibits in the US. Creative and educational, beautiful and inspiring. Really cool for kids and adults.
Docent lead tours are so very incredible here. The best way to see an exhibit.
