This is a great place to learn about New Mexico culture
Great exhibits. One of the volunteers saw us come in and even though she was on her way home approached us and asked us of we'd like her to show us her favorite thing in the museum. We learned a lot from her in the short amount of time she was able to take out of her schedule.
My sister and I went on my birthday! I enjoyed myself very much.
Beautiful and educational, a great place to learn
Great work
Interesting
Lovely museum. Enjoyed the pottery collection and video on how one type of pottery is made. The exhibit on the Native American Standing Rock Protest in ND over the oil pipeline was very good. Another example of the federal government running roughshod over Native Americans.
Educational.
Great exhibits.
We ate at the Pueblo restaurant. The service was great and the manager checked with us a few times to be sure we were happy. The food was fresh and very well made and the portions we're generous. The only negative was the bathrooms we're freezing.
Fun & interesting. Great family time.
Really colorful, beautifully displayed and great information. They have the most awesome little play area for kids and a coloring area in the back. My only suggestion would be to make it easier for kids to see the displays. Everything is high up and i only saw one step. Maybe these could be added all around? Other than that, this museum was really nice!
We really enjoyed our visit there. The tour guide was very knowledgable.
Well worth a visit is you are in Santa Fe, me and my crew spent well over 3 hours in here.
Lovely museum of mid-century modern design and folk art featuring a lot of toys and miniatures. Cited with several other museums and a botanical garden. Beautiful location with views. The cafe is great for lunch.
Native Americans shouldn't have to pay to see their ancestors art. Didn't go inside .
Worth the time
Very interesting. Several museums on grounds with international collections on loan.
I actually didn’t get to see much of the exhibits due to the time restrictions but got to purchase some unique items Native artists from NM created. Definitely worth a visit.
I loved this museum! I found it very informative and fun to see all the exhibits.. if you are in new Mexico make it a point to go visit it!
Everything in this musuem is interesting and would be interesting to kids as well as adults. Just the right size to fill up a couple hours in and the gift shop is great for getting a unique gift you'll never find anywhere else.
Best ever museum.beautiful.wonderful displays.beaytifully maintained huge lovely artifacts thoroughly appreciated
I’m not sure why this place is called the museum of international folk art because it really should be called something like the museum of international he gone wild in miniature collections or something like that. Yes there is a folk art component and some of the exhibition halls, but the real focus of the museum is an utterly and completely a fantastic collection of miniatures. What? Yes I said miniatures. It really is something to see, and if you feel bad about collecting anything at all, after going to this museumYou should feel good and you’ll want to collect even more.
Especially appreciated the video of Maria Montoya Martinez at work. The Pottery Room is beautiful and very informative.
Pricey admissions, rude staff... not worth the stop.
Must visit site
Awesome exhibits of Indian art from all over the US. Well worth the price of admission. Not always easy to find or access but it's worth the trip.
Very interesting, good exhibits. Definitely worthy of revisiting.
I thought I knew a lot about the New Americans art but here you can see the expanse and depth of the rich and very diverse tribes culture.
Worth a visit.
Extremely thoughtful and thought provoking
So, so interesting. Much native American culture.
Always great
Lots of hands on stuff, exhibitions! Loved it!
Wonderful experience
Great museum covering a whole lot of local native american people, over a 1000 years or even more. Highly recommendable. 12$ admission.
Very interesting and educational!
This museum is a very nice very well put together museum
Went to see an art show with a friend and it was the best. This is a very friendly space with works that create culturally friendly conversations. Would recommend more than one visit.
Loved the art and history of the Native American
A great place. Some exhibits were closed.
Great history.
Beatiful pottery. Very interesting indigenous art history.
As always, the permanent and rotating exhibits were astonishing and informative. We visit the museum on EVERY trip to Santa Fe.
Ancient and modern indigenous art and craft. Well worth many visits.
Inside the premier repository of Native art and material culture are the stories of the people of the Southwest. Developed through collaborating with tribes, the core exhibition “Here, Now and Always” presents stories of creation, survival and everyday life over 14,000 years in the Southwest. The Buchsbaum Gallery of Southwestern Pottery offers changing selections in a permanent display that represent the development of a community tradition in the pueblos of New Mexico and Arizona. Throughout the year, the museum serves a diverse, multicultural audience through many changing exhibitions. Families will enjoy the educational programs.
People were awesome and very helpful
Enjoyed seeing all of the exhibits. I especially found the Standing Rock exhibit very powerful
Fabulous!
Large collection and multiple special exhibits. Be sure to see treasures in the basement. Two gift shops with many quality items. Friendly staff.
I was told there is no photography that was upsetting the tour guide was very rude!it eas a Camino real fild trip..
Beautiful location and we'll kept grounds. Great place for an event!
When ever we are in Santa Fe, I try to stop by Museum Hill, with the four museums and the Cafe. They also have an incredible labyrinth. There is rich history on the hill, and the curators of the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture do well in the exhibits they choose. Also, the mountain views are stunning!
Lovely!
Fascinating exhibits
Very informative. The pottery section was my favorite!
This is a beautiful, spiritual experience. This represents the stories of the 22 Native Peoples of New Mexico (2-Apache tribes, 19- Pueblos and Navajo) a must see
A great place to see all of the Pueblos pottery in one place..great extensive gift shop..
So much beautiful folk art to see!
Very interesting.
It shows us needed people on how we you should do things way back then so I'm very supportive of this place
Great exhibit
An eye opening experience. I wasn't sure what folks art was about and I'm still left wondering about many things. But I walked away with a new appreciation for what people around the world are making. Also, throughout the museum there were neat interactive boards for people to post their own art and writings.
It had stuff that's good about muesums.
came here fer Standing Rick exhibit. WATER IS LIFE y'all. ya can't drink oil... will be returning fer de masterpieces o Pueblo pottery. that'll be an all day deal, gladly seaux! de knowledge n collection here is non parallel.
A beautiful display of local native history.
It was interesting, for me, mostly because of the text next to the art--the pictures and artifacts themselves mostly just added to the commentary. If you go, don't skip the folklore art museum across the plaza; it's a visual feast.
Nice museum, sad I couldn't take photos and I understand why, definitely would go again
Stunning museum. The exhibits give you a chance to hear Navajo and Pueblo people telling their own history. Great collection of contemporary art by Native American artists.
Clean, lots of aerobic machines, great price. Only con is that is crowded before and after work.
Wonderful and interesting exhibits with very knowledgeable and friendly guide. I LOVE the Tramp art exhibition. Great gift shop. Plan to spend several hours here.
Very interesting and well executed visual art works created by contemporary artists. These works were the most interesting things we saw today.
Beautiful objects, wide variety of displays, learned a lot.
Super interesting
Great buys, amazing culture
Big disappointment. Poorly organized and illuminated. No guidance provided, turning what is probably a very interesting story into random free for all.
Great exhibits, well staffed, and quiet. The tramp art exhibit was very interesting.
Very neat. Cool place.
Well worth the visit. Learned what brain tanning is; don't ask.
A good place to spend 2 hours in Santa Fe.
Awesome.
If you are in santa Fe a must see. The exhibition is amazing and you can photograph it. The views from the museum to surrounding area are spectacular.
This entire development was impressive.
Simply Amazing! Such a neat historical place! Has everthing to do with the original people of these lands. Alot of actual history and the culture of the surrounding areas and how they came to be what they are today. Facts of history along with present day standings.
Excellent food and museum!
Beautiful works of art. Unfortunately, some of the showcases were poorly illuminated. Sculpture garden outside was wonderful - I wish there was more!
Great staff, art, gift ship
Nice art, eye appealing
I loved this museum! As I am not from the region myself I miss a lot of background in the subject our native America, who they are/are, where the live/lived and all other aspects of their culture (expect maybe the caricature in movies..). I was therefore delighted to learn much more about this in this museum and to be able to look at the nice art! The museum collection is thoughtfully made and teaches a lot.
Very unique collection of art!
Please experience this gem for yourself. We have such a diverse population here.
It was great to learn more about native american cultures. I particularly liked the old pictures.
Outstanding museum exhibits, lectures. New exhibits continuously installed. A timeline walk through the centuries of Native cultures and artifacts. Excellent tours, wonderful gift shop, outdoor sculpture exhibits too on the open plaza on top of the hill. I am a long-standing member of the NM Museum Foundation, too.
Beautiful museum.
I didn't love this place. Kind of small. It's about to be updated in spring 201o. It does have an electric mix of indian pieces. I was there less than 30 min. Not worth 12$ but it is a good deal as part of the 30$ culture pass.
Keep up with the changing exhibits, you'll always find something fascinating.
Incredible New Mexican experience! The museum presents a fantastic blend of culture, art, and history in a respectful way. I enjoyed the various video interviews and testimonies exhibited throughout the museum. Definitely worth the visit.
Wonderful museum and fun place for kids in the kids room. Visit can be as short or long as you would like. Beautiful location on museum hill. Iconic back drop of Sangre de Cristo foothills.
Museums are always interesting to stroll through, and I try to make it a point to check them out when I visit a new place. Every take is different. This one stood apart from many others I've been to. Not only were the exhibits tasteful and creative, they did an amazing job communicating their story and the emotion behind it. Joy in community, the struggles of surviving, and the immense sadness permeating where many stand today. I left feeling privileged to have seen a glimpse of the past, and humbled by the new tint to the colors of the world.
Great for quality time with the family. Everyone enjoys plus the kids!(:
loved the artifacts in this museum. would go again
They had a very well-planned layout showing all of the Indian crafts clothing, housing, trade goods and how they constructed their housing. Also showed some of the problems with interaction with past and present government intervention in their lives.I am not sure how long I was there but probably an hour and a half.
Could use some updating but artifacts on display are amazing.
I really enjoyed this museum. The beadwork exhibit was just stunning. Loved to see all the different cultures that have used beadwork around the world and locally. Really liked the tramp art exhibit. It is something I knew nothing about. The back room is very overwhelming. I grabbed the book but really just walked around the room aimlessly looking at all the different artifacts and then towards the end I would try to guess where the folk art came from and would look in the book to see if I was right.
Great place to visit to see Native culture. Very sacred artifacts, hundreds of years old. Really amazing. Well worth the time.
Simply a fabulous museum. The first hand (multi-media) accounts of Indian life which were interspersed throughout the museum were especially moving and insightful.
Very nice and interesting.
Unique museum of Arts and culture
We had a wonderful experience on a scheduled homeschool fieldtrip. They gave helpful information and a great hands on activity.
GMaps will not believe that I've never been here. But this is part of a very nice museum complex.
Huge collection of Native American culture. They have a nice display of Jewellery by Novajo people. You can get an idea of what kind of jewellery they used to wear and make and how Spanish culture influenced them. They have a dispaly of some contemporary paintings too. You should visit if you love history and arts.
Good stuff if you like history.
This museum is well designed and has an amazing collection of Native American artifacts.
This is a special resource for the Southwest I attended two classes, ine on Southwest Jewelry and another on Navaho rugs. Very informative and worth my time.
Ok. Many of the exhibits were in very low light and could not tell if there was a story to understand.
Great museum about the native american culture and history worth seeing
Please visit this museum if you are in the area. Powerful!
This one is a baaad money grab.I would like to re-name this "Museum of Indian Arts & Culture for white people" because where else do you get to see multiple modern kitchens belonging to First Nations people? Half completed & poorly designed displays of mostly pottery and many hallways and nooks darkened out (i.e. with no displays). For example, I needed a flashlight to read the tags that explain said pottery. Considering that there's another Native museum one block away (the Wheelwright) I'd say this is a baaad money grab.
Great museum. Have very old artifacts and lots of Native American history as you would expect. Some political slant in some exhibits. Fabulous gift shop. The music selection is A+ and you can listen to samples. A definite should do when in Santa Fe.
Save your money. Few of the interactive displays worked. Displays were cheesy. Staff was was disinterested. There are better things to do on Museum Hill.
Beautiful place and I love walking the labyrinth!
One of the best museums in the country
Ok museum
I love the gift shop. Spend some time exploring the hilltop plaza and walk the labyrinth.
Lightning boy is alive.
wonderful little gem that provides insight into native culture
Must-see when in Santa Fe, including a beautiful sculpture garden outside.
Great classes for all ages
Displays and information well presented.
This museum is amazing! It focuses more on "anthropology" than "art," but the items they have and the contextual information they provide on the various first cultures and items really help to understand these peoples. This is one of the best museums on Southwest Native Americans I have ever encountered, and can't be missed if you have any interest in this subject!
I work here. So biased. But it is an amazing museum!!
Well thought out, very well displayed.
Great museum compound. Very friendly staff. Lots of displays.
Great food! Da Best!!!!!!
Very Very well done.
There's a great combination of Native American history/culture of the area and modern Native Art that shakes up the stereotypes and objectification that indigenous people have endured.
one of the must see attractions in Santa Fe. I liked their exhibit on Pueblo pottery.
Sculptures well with seeing, exhibits extensive
Learned a lot
Fascinating museum. Interesting exhibits.
Very interesting and informative.
It is very informative, well designed. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly
Frank Buffalo Hyde installation is fantastic. Go check it out
Great day with my students! We all loved making our puppets! I made the doll from Lilo and Stitch for my son, so much fun!!
An incredible museum that shares historic and contemporary art by indigenous peoples. I have seen many wonderful exhibits in their temporary exhibit area. Photos by Lindbergh of historic sites and beadwork are my favorite.
Exceeds in all areas. Truly unique and culturally important.
Absolutely fantastic exhibits! Must see!
The museum has lots of interesting exhibits there. They have lots of old artifacts there and they date them so you know how old it is. Also lots of displays and recreations of things. I would recommend this museum and it will be even better because they were doing work to some parts of it while I was there.
Amazing fun museum
Beautiful showcase of Indians as people, lifestyle and culture!
Really well done exhibits and narratives. Must see in Santa Fe
Very enjoyable museum for the whole family. Very friendly staff.
Wonderful museum, free on Sundays for NM residents
Once a year, you have to go. It's fun, multicultural and amazing!
This museum had spurred my interest in native American history. The day we visited there was native American dancing, it was a great addition to my day.
If you want to learn about the Indian culture of a variety of environments, then this is a ' mandatory' stop. Well presented with just the right balance of words and objects. The ' trail' for the past, present and future' exhibit is one of the best ive seen during the past 8 days of exploring the area. Best way to see it is to get the $30 culture pass and visit the museums in Albuquerque, Taos, and especially museum hill in Santa Fe.
Wow! New Mexico and Native American cultural overload!! Beautiful venue for an event too.
Excellent museum
