Small but educational.
Great place for family visits. Catch one of the live chats with the summit weather observers.
The highest peak in the east! I viewed it from a distance and it was still magnificent.
Breathtaking. ...went on van tour .....learned the history .....my 7 year old so impressed.
Great two hours spent in the North Conway area. Staff is very informative and friendly. A must visit.
My favorite place on earth.
Very informative and aha dis on experience . A must see and do .
Great place and friendly staff. A must stop when your in North Conway.
This is for the Discovery Center ONLY, which is like a museum, not the weather station that the picture shows for this listing shows - THAT is located in the State park, in the Sherman Adams Visitor Center - which is an hour NORTH
you should experience it if your in the area this time of the year its breath taking
Really adorable little museum/discovery center. A great way to explore the science of what's going on up on Washington without having to suffer the brutal elements most of the year. I went with a friend (we're both in our early 30s) and we had a blast. Spent about 20 minutes straight at the water/wind activity, working on getting the little boat into it's harbor. Such an epically fun and simple challenge. This would be a perfect spot to bring kids on a rainy day, or even a sunny one! Oh and the gift shop is fantastic.
Very nice, great price, learned alot about the mountain.
It is like you are truly on top of the world! Amazing spot to bring the family.
It costs $10 to walk around a room as big as my kitchen. After hiking up 6 miles to the summit, this was very disappointing.
love the history behind this place old equipmemt
Nice stop. Minimal fee.
Small place but cheap to visit and the kid:had fun
One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Simply breathtaking!
Getting high is beautiful enjoy the View !
Had great time, love this place everyone, was, nice
what a kool place to visit dress warmly always a breeze:)
The MWVOBS museum is a small interactive museum in North Conway Village. The visit runs about an hour and the exhibits are really well done. A very cool giftshop is on site here too.
A great little interactive education center for kids and adults alike.
Amazing little place, lots to learn. It only takes about an hour to explore the whole place, but it's worth it
As a long time member I was finally able to go to the top and visit. Intern was excellent and will be an asset to the MWO! Like all, we love Marty, hope you go many more years purr-E
Nice interpretive center on the mountain and weather in downtown North Conway. Note that this is not actually on the mountain. If you want to climb the auto road to the top of the mountain, you need about an hour form this location to the top (depending on weather). Look for Mount Washington Summit or Sargent's Purchase, Coös County, New Hampshire.
Visited a couple of times with the grandchildren and we are local. Nice concept, but rather devoid of exhibits and interactive "stuff." So with that in mind, I suggest a quick visit. There is a gift shop and expect the prices to be high. However, you are in tourist country.
It's a worthwhile trip if you have kids. It provides a good educational experience.
Great stop to learn about climate and weather, particularly on Mount Washington!
Awesome place to take your kids
Awesome place to go
Glad this item was put in my bucket list not too keen on the ride to top of mt.
Nothing like this place anywhere in the northeast
I drove 5 hours out of my way on a trip just to drive the auto road and when I got there they said you'd could only drive halfway up because the roads to soft yet halfway still costs 30? They guy who sounds like dracula was unpleasant as well. Maybe it'd be nice to tell someone that when they call ahead of time.
Even if it's cloudy at the top...the drive up is still breathtaking. Very educational, and a unique experience.
Great place to visit when not on the slopes!
Fun place to learn new things about the weather here and up there
Good spot for pictures
Love it up here. It's crazy how the microclimate reacts
Very fun for the kids
The view
Awesome views on a clear day
Lots of buttons on display didn't work and kind of small
Great place on top of Mt Washington. I was pleasantly surprised by the history & displays! Also has a Nice snack bar up top.
A neat little museum with a short film and a handful of fun exhibits for children. Entry price is very inexpensive. The information about wind at the observatory on top of Mt Washington is fairly impressive.
Great view
Educational! For all.
I have driven up and taken the Cog up. The day we drove was one we will never forget! We went through all 4 seasons in 1 day. Sunny and warm when we started, cold & snowing at the top.. Scariest drive I've ever taken but worth it! Couldn't see a thing (or person beside you) at the top that day. Going up was gorgeous until we got into the clouds.. Less scary when you cannot see the massive cliffs you drive on. There are a lot of places you can stop along the road too. Even water stops for your vehicle to help your brakes from over heating going back down. Took the Cog the next year and it was phenomenal! The people who work on it are amazing! The views, the history, the observatory, the serenity it brings.. 100% worth every penny! Look forward to hiking up some day too.. Make sure you check the weather forecast though! Trust me, you WANT to see the views!! They are literally Breathtaking ❤
Great way to spend an hour. We loved all the exhibits and became members.
I recommend trying the hurricane similator. Other cool things for kids to learn about weather.
It used to be free and is now $2 to enter. Not bad for $2. I like the wind shack simulator
Kids are free and adults are $2. Cool displays about the weather and a historical video about the observatory on Mount Washington. Definitely glad we went and well worth the $2. Kids learned something on vacation!
The hike was incredible but the scenery was even better!!! The weather on top of the mountain wasn't too bad. Maybe 40-45 degrees. I really want to come back again. Amazing experience.
Beautiful here!!
Awesome place. Tons of info. Cool, interactive displays and exhibits. Extremely affordable.
nice view great day
This was a fun experience overall. Even though it was a small exhibit, it is one large room with several interactive exhibits and a lot of information plaques, I ended up spending between 45 minutes to an hour there. There was also a quirky 10 minute movie well worth the watch, either for the information, or the slightly outdated 90s filmmaking. To top it off, the gentleman at the front desk was very friendly, and, worth taking advantage of, very knowledgeable about the observatory. You can't beat a short exibihit like this for a small $2.
We did the camp-in with our Cub Scouts, the Scouts enjoyed their time and the tour of the weather center on top of Mt. Washington the next day.
Best field trip ever. My 8 year old Still Tala about the man they video chatted at the top of Mt Washington!! Avid the wind simulator house is AWESOME!!! Definitely recommend
Great views, quite expensive because they charge per person, but includes a free guided tour CD, car sticker and certificate
Pretty view, clean restrooms
Mount Washington might just be my favorite place in the world. I can't believe anybody would actually give the top of Mount Washington a 1 star review. And yes, the observatory is small, but what did you expect? A shopping mall?
The folks working and volunteering there are awesome!!
Always a fun stop for the kids. We come every year!
Such a unique place. They to do research and educational outreach while maintaining a historical gem. The stories from the observers are the best. The drive up is nice, the hike up is incredibly beautiful. It's difficult to believe the variety of different flora and fauna that exist there. Some of the plants I have seen nowhere else. It's an understatement to call it a beautiful place.
Great place for kids to learn some weather science. Some fun exhibits to interact with.
I had a really bad day...then the next day i woke up and drove to the top of Mt. Washington. the drive up was not easy at all. Ive been driving every day since I was 16 years old, I've delivered food for 9 different restaurants all over Boston, I've photographed 37 of 50 states and I've done it all drive and let me tell you this, this drive up the mountain was an adventure in itself!!! I loved it to much. just as much as reaching the top!! it felt like the YMCA indoor pool at the bottom and then a cold Patriots Parade at the top. a lot of fun! i think anyone with a skilled or courageous driver should do it. i climbed it Mt. Washington in middle school with my summer camp and i always said I'd come back and i did. . wonderful time
Tallest point in New England. Fun hike
Weather was awful, nothing to see and it was a great experience. Wouldn't have missed it
We visited Mount Washington on July 25, 2014 as part of our upper east coast trip. I wanted to visit it after I read about it in National Geographic, especially about the wind speed and temperature drop on the summit. We went up via the toll auto road. The drive up and down is not really scary as long as you are careful. As a matter of fact, I felt it is too short a drive. The views along the drive are great, but less grand than those in wild west. The most impressive part is really the top about the fierce wind force, the fast-moving cloud, the chilly temperature, the story behind people working there or hiking there and the historical tragedies as a result of the bad weather. I think it is one of a kind experience. The only con is I wish the auto tool is by car without charging additional each passenger on the car.
Inexpensive and educational fun for all ages
VERY educational, worth the price of admission. bring the kids!
Views on a clear day are breath taking.
Good fun learning place
Great place to visit.
Beautiful climb
Wow what an amazing trip. We will never forget
Great trip. Fun to drive up. I have been there a few times with different weather conditions. Saw a double rainbow for the first time from there. Fun place to visit. Views are amazing. Not an easy hike but doable depending on the weather.
This place was a neat little surprise. We were killing time before we had to drive home from visiting New Hampshire, and decided to pop in here. Definitely worth an hour of your time with your family, neat little educational place!
Awesome
If you're contemplating the trip, just go for it!! You will be happy you did.
Very interesting kid friendly
Fun and educational! Great hands-on activities to understand wind and weather!
Cool little museum with interactive exhibits that teach about weather in the White Mountains
Great place with lots of good info. Only reason I gave minus one star was because the lady at the front over charged us. She charged us $2 each for my 10 year old daughters, but the sign and site says it's only $1 each. It was to late to worry about $2 by the time I realized it.
If you want to know about Mt Washington, this is the place to go. Highly recommend stopping in here to learn about the adventure that awaits you.
As an adult, I had fun touching everything! I can only imagine how children would like this. It was $2 to get in and in my opinion $2 well spent.
Had more fun than expected. We would definitely go back for another visit!
Cute place to take the kids/family and learn about the weather and the history of the extreme conditions that have and can happen around the area. I remember coming here as a kid and just was here not to long ago. It's a great place to learn and play
This place was so cool! I found interesting gadgets and science all around.
If the weather is clean very nice killing view from the top.
Great place to learn and explore science and extreme weather.
Very well done, fun and wonderfully educational. Add to that some orginal aerial photos from the 1930s of Mt Washington by Brad Washurn and you have truly inspiring experience.
Fun little nice quiet museum with interactive exibits
Great Views from the summit... you can hike up if you are feeling adventurous or take the Cog Railway...
The sights are phenomenal ♡♡♡ worth the drive up
Wonderful place to visit! Amazing views
Beautiful
Well worth the drive up.
Awesome weather atation .gives you an indepth idea what winds and tornados feel like as if you are in one and a lot of antiques...Grest souviener ahop i side..
Such a neat place to stop at!! Glad I stopped in before heading back to Florida!
Fun place to learn about Mt Washington and its weather
An exhilarating drive up and down. Well worth it for the awesome views, especially in the fall.
Super cool little pit stop. You could spend about an hour inside. They have a small gift shop. It was good for little kids. It was not very busy. They also have two electric car chargers in their lot.
I have been and walked the top and visited inside the weather observatory twice in side drove up to the top in my car three times been on the Cog Railroad 4 times..I love being on the top of Mount.Washington. The weather is different all the time I have been up there..
Interesting exhibits and interactive displays for people of all ages. Store area has great projects for kids to buy and take home.
This was a really fun museum. The kids lasted a lot longer than I thought from a small venue. Lots of great exhibits to keep them learning.
I liked it, I think the kids found it a bit too dry, but plenty of hands on stuff to try out
Fabulous experience inspire of the clouds. I think that made it more fun! Highly recommend the shuttle service to the top!
Very interesting and affordable. Lots of fun.
Fun drive up. While a clear day is nice, poor weather makes for an exciting trip up bravo the elements a little without. Being in much if any danger ( for the car/train types)
A gem! Be sure to stick your hand in the twister
great views. super windy and cold
Been here a bunch of times. Its spectacular. Scenic views. Rode up on motorcycle. Took the van for a fee. And drove. Well worth the trip. You must do ❗
Always a great sight. Worth the money to go up. If it seems like bad weather, remember the weather changes within 5 mins.
This place was great! The people there were friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of interesting interactive exhibits. Even as an adult I had lots of fun, and I would imagine bringing a kid interested and weather would be a good idea.
Beautiful views all year!
Small but very interesting. Ask to watch the video, it has some amazing information.
We love the ride up
Loved it
Love Love going to the top of the world and it is just a short ride from home.
If you have an interest in weather and in the weather and history around the Weather Center on the peak of Mount Washington, this is the place to start. (but your NEXT stop should be to the peak!)
This is not for the Observatory... This location is in town and is a "museum". The photos listed are NOT for this location.
Fabulous
It's beautiful and I loved it except that there was sharps containers in the bathroom indicating there's a lot of drug use that goes on there
Mount Washington has some of the most severe weather in the world - and changeable. I have been up on both the Cog Railway - which I love - and the road. The important thing to be aware of is that you cannot assume that there will be great weather on top of Mountain - even if you start out on a clear, nice day. I suggest some warm layers even if you are starting out on a hot day. Many innocent hikers have started up the mountain unprepared -and the most unfortunate have rock cairns where they perished - - please don't underestimate Mount Washington. Going up the special drive road you can experience many types of weather - so drive carefully. Many do find that bringing trailers up is difficult. If it is good weather when you reach the top - the views are amazing - and worth it! It takes about an hour to look around - I like taking a picnic - - And do consider taking the Cog Railway up - but know that you will have to usually have to have reservations at least a few days in advance - more for holidays
Very inexpensive, very interactive. It is a small place but we easily kept ourselves entertained for more than an hour. Can't beat it, especially considering it only cost a few dollars to get in.
So cold!!
Overall a very good experience. The gift shop was impressive with the variety of kits to help children and amateurs learn more about weather. The tornado
So much important scientific work takes place here. Love the wind, clouds, undercast, rime ice. The weather up top is truly something to behold! Museums at the summit and in North Conway are interactive and fun while being educational and informative for all ages. Can't wait to go back up!
Very interesting and fun exhibits.
Nice little museum with reasonable entry fee. This seems a companion museum to the one on top of Mount Washington, which I also visited, but has different exhibits and is focused on weather. My group of three adults spent about 90 min there. Note there is a 10 min movie about weather that doesn't seem to run an a regular schedule, but you just have to ask to see it. Don't miss the interactive exhibit where you and at least two others work together to sail a small boat into a dock using a combination of 18 small fans. (This is a physical interactive with real water and real fans not a computer simulation.) I'm not exactly sure how it fits in with the theme of the museum, but is original and quite fun if you have the time and attention span. Also, the gift shop was nice and had a nice variety of stuff.
Awesome view even with the cloud below us, nice experience there
Amazing altitude!
Fun exhibit that explains the weather and wind found on Mount Washington
Amazing views, relatively easy drives up and down the mountain.
Lot of fun kids had a blast
Good experience and people
This is a must see for sure!!! You can make the 5 mile, very tough hike up the mountain or go around the back and take the train. You can also take the auto road if it is open. There is a neat snack bar at the top with the best 6280 foot chili you will ever eat; especially if you just finished hiking. This trip is not for the weak of heart! I have climbed the mountain from every angle except Lion's Head and that is in the plans for this year. The weather here can change in a minutes so prepare for winter weather even if it's 80 degree at the base. Be care and have fun!!!
Brought my Boy Scouts there to earn the weather badge. The gentleman that was working was kind and helpful
Fun and educational weather/Mt Washington museum. Hands-on exhibits were interesting and entertaining. Gift shop had a great selection especially if shopping for a weather/science enthusiast. Conveniently located to several shops and eateries in North Conway Village.
They say Mount Washington has the CRAZIEST weather conditions of any place in the world. Luckily when I went up, it was during one of the milder days (75 degrees on ground level and 30 degrees at the observatory). When we got to the top, we went on a wonderfully exciting tour with a meteorologist ($10 for an hour of education) who shared his experiences on top of the mammoth mountain and how research has helped paved advancements in technology and with environment research. Every bit of the visit was memorable, from the drive up (watching the ever-changing terrain) to the friendly staffers who served up hot cocoa to warm our hands. If ever in New Hampshire, visit this unique place and go home with a great story.
Getting there is “A Trip” never forgotten! What A view if Mother Nature cooperates. Well worth the trip regardless. Drove the road, took the Cog Railroad.
We love this place. Our kids actually ask to go here. It's educational and interactive. It takes about an hour to go through the exhibits, so it's a nice stop to make amongst other activities in North Conway. Thumbs up...
Good for late elementary school age kids...
It was super to enjoy the beautiful views, 20 minutes after we arrived clouds build up which made it very foggy and gave us the opportunity to experience being inside a cloud lol, but the whole experience was amazing. - Kids friendly. - Toilets (clean). - Restaurant. - Gift shop. - Tip-Top house (must visit). - Museum. - Mount Washington summit sign with the height displayed in feet and meters which you can take a picture of yourself with.
Small but very nice science/weather museum.
We drove very far for this one. If you're in the area it's a cute, fairly quick museum with a hand full of exhibits and a gift shop. It's in an awesome location and it's quiet. We drove very far for it but if I knew the size of the museum I would only stop in if I was in the area for something else. Having said that, it's extremely affordable. $2 for adults and $1 for children. The wind gun exhibit was cool and we spent a lot of time at an exhibit that parks a little boat by wind.
Nice place, doesn't look like much but we spent 2 hours inside.
It was an interesting exhibit. Lots of great simulations and activities. There are often short movies. Great for younger kids.
Not hard to believe that this house almost flew off with the winds being very strong and cold when we visited.
Mind blowing place...
Great information.
Spectacular VIEW
You closed at 3:00 and we came at 3:02. Bummer
Breathtaking place
loved this place. learned a lot and had so much fun.
