Smaller museum, but with a fine selection.. from Assyria to contemporary. Perfect for a 2 hour visit.

Wow! What a beautiful museum right here in our own wee backyard! Free! I'm so glad to have found this for our family. Remember, this is a somewhat snake place than the Met. or MOMA, so don't expect huge, sprawling exhibits. Instead, take a few hours and you'll have plenty of time to study each piece and never feel rushed.

Mariah Kurtz

I really liked this place. Most importantly, it is free. It has a varied collection of art ranging from native American to Medittaranian to Modern age. There are paintings by Picasso as well. Many paintings about New England to give you a glimpse into the history of this place. Anyone visiting the area must visit this. It is very clean and well maintained.

Exquisite collections!

Renovation turned this place into a gem. They removed their previously dominating stodgy renaissance to a small couple rooms on the side and replaced it with an incredible contemporary art collection. It's a small museum you can absorb in just over an hour, but well worth the visit.

Museum is clean and well-maintained with great selection of local art as well as temporary world art.

Lots to see but left me quite empty, expecting more for a newly opened renovation. The rooms seemed similar perhaps larger but same artifacts. Disappointed actually. Perhaps the darkness, the sultry depressive artifacts, the bizarreness of some, left me feeling the senslessnesss of including the newest pieces. They detract from the timeless, beautiful artwork that has been revered for centuries.

As an art novice, I can say that it was fun to visit. You can probably spend an hour or two even if you know nothing about art

Richard Liscinsky

Wonderful, serene, well appointed and educational. We wandered around through the exhibits of art sculpture and paintings that took us through a journey through time and culture. Great way to spend a few minutes or a few hours.

Recently renovated with a huge development cost, the Hood Museum is a fantastic array if modern and old art. With pieces of stone carried by camels through the desert to make there way to Dartmouth to 500 year old paintings a must see if your in the area. Admission is free of charge.

Lucas Rifkin
