REVIEWS OF Conway Scenic Railroad IN New Hampshire

My wife and I were married on September13th, and we stayed in a cabin in Lincoln for the week. Conway is about a 23 mile drive from where we stayed, and the Conway Scenic Railroad was well worth the trip! Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The sunset ride was so romantic and the food was great! We had an amazing time! The only thing I would critique is that my wife said her food tasted like it was cooked with alcohol, which wouldn't have been a big deal if she wasn't a recovering alcoholic. A little more transparency in the menu would be nice. Other than that, great experience! I will recommend!

Half of the ride, downhill from Fabyans, was what we enjoyed most. Moved from first class to coach at Crawford's. It was too crowded in first class. Was able to open the window in coach to take photos. That was helpful. Less narration would also be better. Enjoyed the views, Waterfalls were great as it had been raining. Had difficulty with the website and ended up buying boxed lunches. Wanted to eat in the dining car. Have to think more about what we would do if we rode again. CSR did fine, we made some choices that didn't work out for us.

Sharon Asmussen

We were in coach, and we sat in the open car. This trip is unbelievably beautiful!!! Staff was friendly. Thank you for changing us to the 5.5 hour tour!!! Worth every penny and much more!

david sweetland

Loved the train ride and all the scenery. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Lunch was excellent and very ample. Great to have someone so knowledgeable to narrate the history of the area and the building and operation of the railroad Would recommend this train ride to everyone.

Dotti Jackson-Turek

We enjoyed a perfect fall excursion today! We have done a few other scenic train rides, and this was the best by far. Most noticeable was the cheerfulness and high morale of every one of the employees we dealt with. Also notable was how organized things were. There were multiple excursions with lots of people coming and going, yet things ran very smoothly. We took the dining car lunch option and enjoyed delicious food (real mashed potatoes!) in an authentic railway dining car atmosphere. And, oh yes, the tour! That was great too; loved the iron bridges and the high trestle, and the music!

Lori Horta

This was a fantastic time on board the Gertrude Emma Car. The commentator was very informative and it was interesting learning about the car and the railroad. We will be back to try out the longer ride next time we are in town. Thank you for a great vacation memory.

Natalia Rezende

Took a train ride through the fall foliage this past weekend, I loved it. Next year I'll have to book the 5 hour train ride. The train was lovely and I found the wicker chairs to be very comfy. The music playing on the train set the mood.

Edited: There was 12 of us total, 8 adults 2 children and 2 infants. Although the train was very clean, our train was late by over 1/2 hour due to a terrible accident which I am thankful the ticket booth did not share with everyone waiting as it might have ruined the day completely for everyone. Our narrator didn’t seem knowledgeable or like she might have been reading facts. When we arrived at the “ pumpkin patch “ it was literally a tiny dirt driveway with small grassy area and a few rows of pumpkins laid on grass. The “ gift shop” was more like a snack shack. We used to travel the pumpkin patch express years ago when it went to the old location and enjoyed the store and fresh warm cider and snacks. As far as the pumpkin patch, I stand by my above statement when I say the old location was much better, and based on the size of the building they use for “snacks” they could easily accommodate a gift shop more in theme with pumpkin or apple or maple products like the old location had. We were back on the train within 5 minutes of arriving there because it was not exactly exciting. And I we weren’t there only ones. Our entire car was stilling on the train waiting to leave. This was not worth the almost $200 it cost us for our whole family to go. Sadly we were expecting something much more scenic and worth the hour drive.

Gerald Rice

Route not scenic, mostly views backyards of homes along the way. Train ride began about 30 minutes late and got back to the station over 1 hour late. Waited over 45 minutes at the midway stop for the train ride to restart with nothing of interest to see or do. If you’re going for scenery, this may not be the trip for you.

Surya Nishtala

Excellent train ride. Had a lot of fun. My daughter had so much fun on the train. Will Recommend to everyone.

Cameron Smith

I am a repeat customer because this is a great experience. I especially enjoy going during fall foliage season. My only complaint is that I was chased away from a lounge car (no one else was sitting there) because I was a coach ticket holder. Again, I would not sit in a 1st class or other upgraded seat with a coach ticket but this was a lounge car that NO ONE ELSE WAS SITTING IN.

North Conway Scenic Railroad The station dated back to 1874 and is in downtown Conway Village which is not too far from the North Conway Community Center. You can travel along the scenic routes and cross rivers in the vintage locomotives to see some distant mountain views and valleys. It is nostalgic to be inside one of these old fashioned trains with different seating choices. It is an authentic railroading experience.

I have been on the Conway Scenic Railroad before so I am very disappointed that my last experience was so poor. My sisters and I planned this very special trip with our elderly mother because she has been asking to see the foliage in New Hampshire for so many years now because she does not live in an area that has beautiful foliage. We also knew she would love to take a train ride so this was the perfect opportunity to give her a special treat. For starters, I followed the link on the website to book a “dinner train” because I knew we wanted to have a meal on the train. I was then given the opportunity to pick “my car “. You would think that no matter what car you pick you would get a meal because you picked the dinner train option, but this was not the case, the car I picked did not serve a meal. That was a big let down but decided we would just do dinner a bit late when the train returned at 7:45pm Then the night of the train ride we boarded the train 15 minutes early and waited and waited. It was a 6 o’clock departure time to see the sunset at the trestle bridge and we did not leave till 6:40pm. Almost the entire one hour and 45 minutes on the train was in the dark. No view and no meal... We did get drink service - $12 for an 8oz drink. You would think they would have at least given us a drink on the house. We were starving by the time we got back after 8:30pm. It was very disappointing overall. I think that the Conway scenic railroad should rethink their schedules when the seasons change because no one really wants to ride a train in the dark just to ride on a train.

Edward Vincent

Great fall foliage train ride through the New Hampshire countryside. Meal on the dinning car was good and the servers very pleasant and helpful. Conductor was charming and full of useful historical information on the train. This is now off my bucket list and was really fun.

Jessica Hicks

My family and I had a great time in the Dome of the Rhonda Lee..The Staff was amazing, very accommodating, pleasant and hard working.. The downside was the food and price of beverages. I guess I expected for the money we paid the food would have been much better . Steak tips and fish were overcooked and the broccoli and potatoes were luke warm at best.. The strawberry short cake was very dry. The alcoholic beverages we ordered were over priced . We will definitely ride the train again however, we won't do the dinner train again.

Ronald R Erickson

Crawford Notch Lunch Excursion, really nice to see the valley and mountains without driving; and have a meal along the way. The White Mountains from a different perspective is well worth the time. Being in an older railroad car is an added bonus.

Sheri Bemis

The Pumpkin Patch Train ride was great! My 10 year old grandson loved his first train ride. The restored/vintage vehicles in the Pumpkin Patch was so fun! We were visiting in the area and found out about the ride too late to plan on wearing costumes. But all the kids in costumes was so cute! The Trunk or Treat was a great event. The free pumpkin was an added bonus. Highly recommend this adventure for anyone with children. Pretty scenario was an added bonus for the adults.

James Mardis

Great Ride - Outstanding views and super friendly staff. Well worth the ride. Went to Crawford Notch on the lunch train. Great food. Very relaxing.

Julie Harrison

What a wonderful way to spend the day in New Hampshire! It was beautiful even though it as just past peak season! Minus on star for lack of beverage service, our server was always too busy in the dining car. And the ride back is a little long!

Linda Corliss

We loved our lunch ride. Beautiful fall foliage, a fun pumpkin patch and very nice train staff! I would recommend for a fun family afternoon!

lonewolf82007

Thoroughly enjoyed the train ride and the stories related to us over the course of the day! Food in the dining car was terrific! Wish the table in the dining car was adjustable to slide a bit as it was a bit of a tight fit in the booth for me... otherwise, its a very nice way to spend an afternoon! Worth the money! Beautiful views and staff is very nice and helpful!

Eric Larson

The North Conway Scenic Railway lived up to its name. It was a very beautiful trip through spectacular fall colors and sweeping views through the Notch. We were very happy that we were able to bring our dog along with us to enjoy the ride as well (though she slept through a lot of it:-).

Dan Volpe

A unique experience. We had dinner, the food was fine but there were no free refills on the soda which was unexpected. Had some great scenic views. We were meant to pay for the meal on the train, but the card reader was "finicky" so the server took our card and put it somewhere until we reached the station - which isn't something we would typically like to do.

Michael Curran

Conway Scenic Railroad has an eclectic collection of engines, cabooses and passenger cars. We rode first class seated in wicker chairs aboard a restored 120 year-old car, departing from a real period rail station with a functioning turntable and active roundhouse adjacent to the switch yard. Add to that unique views of the ledges and mountains that make this part of New Hampshire so special, and you have a recipe for an experience that can't be duplicated elsewhere. There are three regular routes with options for most tastes.

Randy Cobleigh

Not impressed. Most of the "view" was woods (right up against the rails)and houses. A couple of fields... Then we turned around. The 5 hour trip would probably be better.

April Doherty

Beautiful ride in the perfect amount of time to enjoy a delicious meal while feeling the times of the olden days as they were. The gorgeous backdrop of the mountains, rivers and streams to top it all off! Thanks again! We really enjoyed our trip!

Stephen Dandaneau

We went on the valley train and it was a nice trip. Next year we will have to do the notch train as that is supposed to be much more scenic.

Teena

Yowza! I can't say enough about the entire staff that we interacted with at the Conway Scenic Railroad! First, Susan, who arranged our trip with a handicapped individual made our trip seamless. All of the staff in the yard assisted us to get to our seats expeditiously and with so much compassion. The view from the train was spectacular but even better was the narration during the trip out and back. The sound system had great quality and the fellow that narrated sprinkled in lots of humor which made it fun. You can bet I'll be recommending the Conway Scenic Railroad to all my friends back home! Thanks everyone.

Lynn Lizotte

Love the ride, but sitting in the open car could not really understand what was being said over the speaker about what we were seeing. Also would have been nice to see the mountains more on the left side, but too many trees blocking view mist of time. But for the most part was a nice relaxing ride.

Craig Petosa

We enjoyed the unique experience. The atmosphere takes you back in time. Food was excellent. The staff was very pleasant. We will definitely go again. We had dinner on the Hattie Evans a beautifully restored dinning car.

christine plaud

Wonderful experience all around! We missed the train in North Conway because of traffic. The staff at the station directed us to the town of Bartlett where the train would stop for us so we could board. My husband and I thought we had to forgo our plans and eat the money we had spent. What a pleasant surprise that they would accommodate us so that we wouldn't miss out on such a lovely and beautiful train ride. We highly recommend this train ride to all. Well worth the money!!

Linda Andries

Could not have been a more beautiful day to travel with friends up to the top of Crawford’s Notch. We packed our own lunch and beverages for the long leisurely ride through color bursting mountains and valleys. The tour guide was awesome but not so loud to drowned out our own conversations with friends. Tyler our waiter was fun, accommodating and so pleasant with his own banter. Absolutely will take this trip again!!

Theresa Munder

My husband and I went on the Pumpkin Patch train ride. The train and attendants were very nice. The ride itself was just one way to the pumpkin patch and the same way back for about an hour ride total. I thought it was going to be a round trip but going to different places. The pumpkin patch was very nice, great for little kids. They had a variety of antique cars and trucks, a small pumpkin patch for kids to pick out one pumpkin to take home. Candy for kids to trick or treat at each antique cars or truck, a little train pulled by a small tractor, the fresh hot or cold cider with delicious apple cider donuts for purchase. A donut and cider was only $3.00. Overall nice trip, a little disappointing to go down and back the same way. For the price I’m not sure if it was worth the cost unless you had little kids. They really seemed to enjoy.

Kizzy Bailey

Great excursion for a family or couple. Seating in the dome was comfortable and service was great. Everyone was nice and knew who we were without asking. Our son was talking about it all the way home. Food was good. Wish there were more choices but understood the kitchen is probably small on a train. Speaking from a wife with a picky husband. Although he enjoyed the turkey dinner, as did I! The views were beautiful! We were lucky to have a clear day. Couldn’t miss much in the dome seating. Also liked that we could wonder around the train during the trip. We weren’t stuck in one seat the whole time. Great option when you travel with children.

Laura Kearney

It was wonderful! Views were amazing! 5 hour long train ride and was comfortable the whole time. Super relaxing day. Had a lovely talk with train conductot. He was very friendly and informative. Loved our experience.

Nicholas Sosa

I chose this scenic trip to propose to my then girl friend, now fiancee. She loved it. The views were spectacular. The food was good. Staff was okay.

Sophie Marshall

Great experience - very nice operation. Very impressed with equipment and staff. Open back platform on Gertrude Emma was a great ride! Had a wonderful experience with Cullen - very knowledgeable and a great host for a great day!

Jennifer Schramm

Beautiful ride.We went in the dome car and it was well worth it. Great food great people just absolutely beautiful this fall! Love the narration and all the stories it added such a nice touch that made the trip all the worthwhile listening to all the wonderful stories.

John Pennine

Excellent time, the ride was great. The train slowed and or came to a stop at all the scenic views so everyone could take pictures. The staff was great and seats were comfortable

Barbara Breuer

Nice ride but unless you are in the dome seats, difficult to see vistas of fall foliage except for small vignettes. Otherwise the train travels in the trees. Lunch for 50 in the dining car was a 2-hour event however the food was very good. Although they don't tell you, seating in first class is assigned. Don't need to rush to find a seat in the car.

Mellette Pepin

The experience was terrific. My grandchildren enjoyed themselves as well as the adults. The only thing I did not like was the fact that the music was so loud you couldn’t hear each other talking. My suggestion would be its great for background noise but turn it down!!!

Michael Knight

100% satisfied. Great service, great views, nice opportunity to meet people from all over the world. North Conway is a good place to stay a night or more, any season. The rail yard is worth a decent amount of time to explore.

Martha Dean

Great train ride with my parents who are 91. Took the Notch train ride for their 68th wedding anniversary. The crew was terrific -- friendly and very helpful. The scenery was fantastic, once the train climbs out of the valley -- especially as the leaves were starting to turn. Snacks offered, clean bathroom, comfortable seating, and a great tour guide with interesting facts and a sense of humor. All in all, this was a delightful way to spend a way to experience the beautiful mountains that my parents used to hike in their younger years.

Dan Leonard

The train was clean, the waiter we had in the Rhonda car was excellent, the views were excellent, the food was also excellent (especially the desert), however, I dropped the two stars because the person narrating the trip for three plus hours sounded like someone scratching their nails on a blackboard. It was not the narrators fault but the speakers in the car. we sat next to the speakers and asked the waiter to turn the speakers off it was so bad but people sitting at the other end of the car wanted the volume turned up. The waiter did turn the speakers down a little but was then other customers complained because they couldn't hear. After the first hour, I was going to cut one of the speaker wires but my wife stopped me. 3 hours of listening to someone scratch a blackboard with their fingernails was too much!

Rick Stevenson

Notch Train 10/24 - a fantastic trip, well narrated. A great day. Parking was a little confusing, and the parking exit down the hill in the back left just a little to be desired.

Tony Beyer

We didn't like the trip. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! We couldn't have asked for a better day. Scenery was beautiful. The staff, particularly Michelle, Jodi, the gentleman that narrated the trip, and the young young who gave us the snack, were AWESOME. We we lucky enough to be able to book the 8 passenger screen room. The car was very comfy. We also had a great time getting to know our fellow passengers from Boston. If we could change one thing, we would raise the height of the super comfy chairs. Will definitely recommend to everyone we know.

Michael DeNapoli

Bartlett tour was not as scenic as we expected. Our guide and all the staff were terrific, and the car was historic and beautiful. My only complaint is the scenery, I would probably change this route or remove it.

Eric L

I've ridden the Conway Scenic before and love riding trains. I have a great respect for these types of operations. It's not easy taking equipment that is 50+ years old and delivering an experience that satisfies modern travelers. We took the Crawford Notch train and had a very nice time except for two issues. We rode coach and were in the last car on the train. The entire time up to the notch there was some metal component on the train car at the front of the car which several times a minute the whole trip would let out a screech. It was ear splitting, similar to if someone was dragging their finger nails on a chalk board. Additionally the PA system was not working properly, we could not hear the person speaking giving the tour. The system cut in and out. Leaving us to guess which words we did not fully hear. It was disappointing to have experienced these issues on what otherwise was a great day. Scenery was great. Well worth the $60.

Patricia G

We did the dining car experience. Very fun. The meal was good as well. My daughter wanted soup but they don’t offer it in the afternoon. The macaroons for dessert were a nice touch.

Sheri Weppel

Traveling in New England with our Beagle Abby and this was a fabulous stop. Her ears were flapping in the breeze as she took in all the smells on the open rail car. Beautiful scenery for the humans too. The narrator was incredibly entertaining and it was a must see when you’re in the area. Abby gives it four paws and a waggly tail.

Ruchi Shankar

Love the Conway Scenic train tour!! I highly recommend to take this tour specially to see Fall colors. You will come across beautiful scenic view and foliage during your train tour.

StL John

The train ride was very scenic, and the narrator was interesting and informative. We did not opt for the box lunches when we bought our tickets, and realized 2 hours into the 4.5 hr trip that we were starving, and had not brought along any snacks. Also the temperature on the mountain was colder than what we dressed for. Better preparation on our part would have enhanced the experience.

Nancy Brooks

It was such a delightful train ride and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the hot turkey dinner with dressing and potatoes. The staff was very helpful. This was a delightful afternoon. Well worth the money.

Ramona Calkins

We went on the glass domed dinner train. It was such a wonderful experience. The food, service and ambiance felt like you were in a different place of time. It was a lovely experience and would love to be able to come back again. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and train excursion.

Jim Hanchey

Enjoyed the train ride to Mt Washington area. Leaves are little past peek but very beautiful. All the train host were very nice and made the trip enjoyable

Jeff Mitchell

Trip was supposed to be an hour and forty five minutes. However at the half way point we stopped and sat for forty five minutes. All of us with little kids had a nice time keeping them from going mental. They also switched engines to go back and the horn at crossings was absolutely deafening in the car with open windows (conductor confirmed it was a much louder horn), and it was blowing every 3-15 seconds. Fun on the way out but the lasting impression is the miserable trip back.

Vikram Karandikar

very well organized. the train ride goes through very scenic sections of mount Washington and you also enjoy the old train ride. the staff is very helpful. the train is very clean. I would recommend upper done seating as that increases your field of view and all glass view makes the ride more enjoyable. You can also enjoy drinks which are served on the train (for price). the one thing we would have liked is more vegetarian eating options for 5 hour train ride. also the Crowford notch has no eating options available. So better get sufficient food with you, especially if traveling with children. the train station shopping center is treat for train lovers (scale models).

Megan Gooley

So much fun!! Our daughters first time on a train (15 months) and first time trick or treating. They treat the kids so great!!

Steve

We always love taking a ride on the old train and the kids love it. This year was great getting the pumpkins and of course the candy, highly recommend taking a ride.

Miss Frugality

It was my Husband and my first time going on a rail trail like this. Gene (at the ticket counter) suggested the shortest 55 minute ride for us. It was a great chance to get to know the beautiful mountains in New Hampshire. I do mean get to know, because on the trip, we had a gentleman in the rail car explaining where we were, and what it all was. It was a great experience!

Jim Rowlan

Excellent experience. The fall colors were not in full splendor, but the train ride was excellent. We almost passed on the lunch, but changed our mind and glad we did. The menu was new for the season. 2 in our party chose the Thanksgiving dinner and 1, the Mac &Cheese. All meals were excellent. Well worth the experience.

Madelyn Haussner

Chance to sit back & relax, learn about railroad history in area along with local stories. Unfortunately, the A/C was not functioning on the trip up despite the efforts of railroad employees. However, they tried their best to make the best of the situation, handing out chilled water bottles. Trip back to Conway Station was better. A/C was fixed, plus dining car was very relaxing & cool. Food was delicious, too.

William Wieters

Perfect weather 10/9, great tour guide- especially our conductor. Foliage at peak. Can't beat that. Thanks for a terrific time.

Patrick B

If you get a clear day you'll have amazing views. Still even with cloudy weather it's a beautiful trip. The crew is nice and add a little education to the trip. The notch train can be a little long if they run late

Kimberly Dodson

Excellent train ride around the Crawford Notch area. All the staff were so friendly! Shout out to Hot Dog Ron who made sure I had delicious food to eat when my pre-ordered box lunch wasn’t made according to my allergies. Highly recommend this train ride any time of year, but in the fall was AMAZING! All the colors!

David Perrone

Was a fun experience. Trains on time and clean. No hassle in reserving. Staff friendly. Was a good time overall. Would do again. Maybe the longer trips too.

Alice Edgerly

This was our 2nd year going on the Notch train to enjoy scenic foliage day through mountains. We loved it so much last year had to come again and brought family along too. Great views, great experience. They also provide area history throughout ride which is neat. Love it! Highly recommended.

Karen Scrivano

Have taken this train in the past always enjoy It. This year tried the dining car for lunch. Made a lovely trip even more lovely. Great food awesome staff.

Ron Webster

My wife and I did the 1-hour, 45-minute ride on the Bartlett Dining Car. Old-fashioned station and trains were very cool. We had the turkey meal on the train and it was pretty good. The scenery on this ride was not great. Mostly goes through residential and business areas it seems as opposed to remote areas. If you have the time, I would recommend going on the 5-hour ride.

Erin Ginter

Great family train ride! We’ve done this a few time in both the notch and valley trains and they are both wonderful. Highly recommend if your up in the area!

Chris Roseberry

Was a great experience. My wife and I traveled in the Rhonda Lee car and the service and workers were awesome. I would definitely recommend this to others and would do it again!!

MBDEV

Fun Valley ride. Great staff on board. Pricey for coach for a short ride. Great views on the way to Bartlett but they go faster on the way back so be sure to enjoy them on the 1st leg. Kinda didn't like that you get like 5 minutes in Bartlett and wasn't a fan of the guy on the mic saying "if you miss the return enjoy your 11 mile walk". No need for the sarcasm buddy. And someone please fix the speakers! Did the Notch years ago this was better for leaving time in your day. Enjoy it!

Martha McLellan

We spent the extra few $ to get first class seats on the Gertrude Emma. The train ride was fun, seats all faced the open windows, and the weather was beautiful. Nice scenery. Probably not as spectacular as going on the Notch Train but this train was not 5.5 hours and did not go over any scary mountain bridge. Great time, we would ride again!

Jane Finn

It was all very enjoyable but my only complaint was it’s too short of a ride! We booked the long 5 hour trip in November for the truly scenic enjoyable ride!! Staff was great! Very friendly, attentive, and professional and the luncheon was great! It just went by toooooo fast! Lol

Peter Durnan

What a great find, glad we decided to take the dining car option. A great relaxing way to see the Mt Washington Valley. Seats are comfortable food and service excellent, great way to spend a couple of hours.

Nicole Eastman

Our train ride with the Conway Scenic Railroad was the bright spot of our rainy day. The soggy staff was friendly, the train cars were clean and receiving a free pumpkin made my daughter’s day. We hope to return in the future!

Miranda Ha

We took the valley train to Conway. The staff was very nice but the train ride was more suitable for families with little kids; we have three adults and two teenagers and we were expecting more scenic views. The ride itself was very short and it was mostly just going behind someone’s house and didn’t really have much scenic views to enjoy.

robert mackey

Gay was very helpful booking our tickets. Service was great. Lunch and cocktails were very good. The views were magnificent!

Angela Dobler

What a BUST! Paid extra for the sunset Upper dinner Dome ride and well let’s just say we sat at the depot for 15-20 minutes. Not only missing the sunset but it was dark before we finally left. Couldn’t see a thing. We brought our friends from Texas to show them how beautiful the train ride would be but it was the complete opposite. Very upset and extremely disappointed!!!

P. J. Murray

Nice experience in an old train car. I opted for the first class ticket. Cool old train car. Guide was informational. Some interesting history but not a lot to see. We did the Bartlett run. I'd have liked to do the longer one but didn't have time. Overall a nice relaxing sightseeing trip. Cool old train station. Parking is scarce if it's busy. I lucky found a spot in the back near the repair garage. Allow extra time to find parking. I recommend.

Christine Martensen

Very scenic ride especially with Autumn leaves. Adults will enjoy, I think children would get bored (unless the Christmas train). Especially if in coach, dress in layers. The open car got quite chilly and we wished we had a blanket. Snacks are reasonably priced but next time we would pre-order the box lunch.

Al Warner

We took a first class car to the notch from Conway (round trip) with no dining service. Food selections at the notch are limited but if you want to forego the dining car you can reserve a box lunch ahead of time or get a hot dog from the on board snack bar. I also saw a number of coolers on board and there are tables under cover during your hour at the notch. It is a fantastic ride with a ton of info along the way. There are some great views but you do spend a lot of time cruising through the woods. We will definitely do it again.

Gail Labrecque

We took the 5 hour ride through Crawford Notch. Except for R&R, it's the only thing on my wish list for vacation. And it didn't disappoint! It was relaxing. The views were spectacular! The food (we had lunch in the dining car) was delicious. And the staff were great! Every one of them, from the woman who gave us our tickets, the guy who cracked all the jokes as we were preparing to board, and the guide giving historical information. They were friendly, attentive, helpful, and made the trip that much better. Thank you to all, and especially to Gage and Tyler in the dining car.

Thomas Stillson

Sat in upper dome of Rhonda Lee for 5 hour Notch excursion with lunch. Great meal and great service with Lisa. Enjoyed the hour break at the Crawford Notch depot by circling the pond and visiting the gift shop. Wish we could have heard the narration from the conductor but a wonderful time overall. Will recommend this trip to friends and family

Bruce Wilcox

We had an excellent time on the train. The highlight of the ride was the dining car. It was nostalgic to be able to eat a meal while thinking about the people and history of the area and the railroad as we dined. We would recommend it to people considering the 5-1/2 hr ride. The history of Hattie Evans and her family was also very interesting.

Stephanie Sanford

This was a great train ride! It kept my 2.5yo son entertained as well as his grandparents. I would recommend splurging for the first class train as it gave so much extra room and bigger windows. Would 100% recommend for families with small kids.

mishelita9306

The Notch Train: what a way to spend a fall day! The views will take your breath away. Stunning scenery and very relaxing. Ladies: use the train restrooms and don’t wait until you get off at the mid-point. The wait is way too long!

suzanne lacerte

Road the Gertrude Emma first class parlor car for the 55 min Conway route. The foliage was lovely. The attendant in our car was knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely ride again soon!

Matt Borsuk

We took the Valley trip and it was an underwhelming experience. If you'd like to hear a barely audible garbled description of the Conway surroundings then maybe you'd enjoy this. I highly recommend the scenic railroad society in investing in new speakers so passengers can actually understand the conductors words. This route also simply passes through trailer parks and trash riddled backyards, maybe the Notch trip is actually with the money. Steer your train clear!

Toni Runci

This was a wonderful experience! The weather was a little overcast and cloudy but we could still see the fall foliage. The historical WW2 info and train info was very cool, adding a unique flare to the ride. I suggest sitting on the left side of the train for the ride up for the best views of the mountains. The seats in First Class were VERY comfortable, almost too comfortable as my husband ended up being lulled to sleep by the ride back! Great experience which I will very likely take again! Thank you!

Mark Bishop

Such an enjoyable ride to Crawford Notch in the fall. The train has snack and dining cars, as well as bathroom facilities on board. Well worth the money and can't wait to do it again!

Very nice foliage and I really liked the trip. Honestly first class was sold out and I had to go coach, which was actually nice, but that's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. It could def be a 5 star if you go first class. The trip and the people were really nice, I would definitely go again

We absolutely loved our Notch train ride out of North Conway, New Hampshire. The scenery was absolutely stunning and the train ride was lots of fun. We were lucky to catch the fall colors at their peek and there were so many breathtaking views. It was lots of fun to have a snack car on board where you can buy drinks, snacks, sandwiches, etc. Our conductor was Larry and he was very fun! The only downside was the guy on the speaker who talked NON-STOP and it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. I know he thought his historical narration was interesting, but honestly, no one was listening. The best part of the train (if you can't be in the dome) is the outdoor car. The seats face all of the gorgeous scenery and there isn't any glass between you and nature. Bring a jacket and you'll be fine!

mostly the backs of trees were seen..few truly scenic vistas. Bartlett? nada there. queued up and waited 40' to get first choice seats (not assigned), only to find they reversed boarding order from time before, and we were LAST. somewhat surly conductor, although he did arrange for my wife and I to sit together, considering prior snafu. "snacks" without drinks were poor.

Denise Dembkoski

We went on the dinner train, sitting in the Rhonda Lee, upper dome. It ended up being a rainy night, so our view was limited, but there was nothing scenic to see. The train travels in a wooded corridor, and there is nothing to see but trees. In addition, our service was not great. The train was not full, but we had to ask several times for things, and when they were brought to us, things were incorrect. The server was extremely friendly and chatty with other passengers, but was not friendly towards us or the table next to us. We ended up sharing resources across the aisle. Finally, I didn't like the taste of my $9 cocktail, so when I said something, I was told the bartender was in training. I didn't drink any of it, but they still charged me for the drink. The food was good, we both got steak tips. The bread was delicious and warm and we had our own oil and balsamic on the table, which I also liked. Overall, I would want to try it again, maybe the longer, lunch, notch trip, where there would be something to see.

Just finished a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad. It was a wonderful experience. The weather was perfect. Our seating choice was the screen room because of the panoramic view from the swival chairs ( very comfy and only 8 passenger seating), however we went out to the back coach open air car because of the fresh air.It was most enjoyable and where we met Bill, a staff member who gladly conversed with us. When we initially booked our reservation, we opted not to do the lunch in the dining car but when Bill told us about the experience, we really wished we had done so. Bill was more than willing to call and see if it was possible to get us a reservation. Luckily for us, we were able to have this wonderful experience ( thanks to bill) and the food was worth it. We had the pumpkin &carrot soup, Thanksgiving dinner and tried both desserts! Everything was good including their homemade salad dressing. All staff are so friendly! Whole experience- from the reservation desk to the order of operations was first class and we would highly recommend it. Would try to do it at peak of foliage if your able to get seats would be my only other recommendation to make it even better.

Fabulous train ride through the mountains of New Hampshire. All aspects of the train Ride were well orchestrated and as we would have expected. Very good crew. However mother nature out did them with a glorious and spectacular show of fall color on a clear Beautifully day. Wow!!!!!!!!’

My family took a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad with our senior Doxie mix and it was a lot of fun! We took the shortest ride (about 50 minutes) since we weren't sure how our dog would react but she did great, and they even gave us a wicked cute dog ticket just for her! It's definitely on our list of places to go back to when we go back!

Marlene Barnett

Always an enjoyable, nostalgic ride. Wonderful vintage train music with information/ historical facts being given throughout the ride. So worth the money.

Had a wonderful experience. From the ticket agent, gift shop attendant to the purser, everyone was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Our server/attendant, Sarah, was awesome, very attentive and joyful. All these combined, made for a wonderful trip. Beautiful scenery the whole trip with a knowledgeable person narrating. The food on first class was delicious and the views from the upper deck were amazing. Highly recommend this trip.

What an awesome time. My 14 year old daughter wanted to experience what it was like on trains years ago so we decided on the railroad because of the reviews. We went with the First Class because it gave everyone a great view. One secret for anyone who reads this. For and extra $2.50 per person you can sit on the back deck of the car. Gives you an open view.

John Bellerose

Very historic building with great artifacts. Store/gift shop has items for children of all ages, as well as things specific to railroading. There is a wide selection of things that are technically correct, such as scale model trains. The shop has a good selection of printed materials including books, posters and puzzles. I love the shop.

We had reservations in the upper dome of the Rhonda Lee which is a dining car. The meal was very good as was the service. We go through the notch and the views are very nice, but the speakers are not set up yet so we can hear the descriptions of what we are going through or what is coming up. Hopefully, they will fix that soon. Also, the windows on the upper dome need to be cleaned. The seats were very comfortable. On the way back, they have you switch with those on the seats across the aisle so everyone gets both views. I thought this was a good thing. A few more housekeeping announcements would be nice, like where the bathrooms are and if you can walk around the cars after we stopped. Our waitress was Michele and she was very attentive. Thank you Michele.

Russ Auclair

The trip was AWESOME, weather was juust right and the crew on and off the train was fantastic. Definitely going again soon. Probably upgrade, tried coach, now time to try other seats but coach was great.

Wife & I looking for something to do on a Saturday ,decided to check out the Conway Scenic Railroad online. Easy to navigate website with choices (length of excursion, price point, activity) allowed us to book a late afternoon one hour ride. Upon arriving at the station we found parking and walked into the beautiful depot to grab our reserved tickets. Staff was friendly and helpful, and told us where to go for boarding. Conductors and train staff showed us to our train, and kept us informed during the trip. We enjoyed the ride, from the clickity clack of the train along the tracks to the views of the distant mountains. One could easily imagine what life was like back in the last century while sitting in your seat. The one hour ride was perfect for what we were looking for, and at some future point I’m sure we’ll be back for the longer five hour excursion.

Ketki Joshi

We took the 55 min train in the first class. It was a big disappointment and a waste of $23 for us. There are absolutely no scenic views during the ride. You see better views while driving around North Conway. I saw in the reviews the 3 hour ride has good views. I did not travel in that one so I don't know if thats true. I don't understand why keep this 55 min ride. Just keep that 1 long ride and stop fooling tourists by giving them the option of short ride which is absolutely worthless. That being said I will give 1 star for the train itself. They have maintained its historical charm.

Bernice Rogers

The server, Mike, was very good. The food was average. the coffee was good. We did not realize the views that we were expecting Over all the trip was nice but not spectacular

Rick Silvia

Was not too happy with our experience. We planned on feeding our kids hot dogs and snacks on the 11:30 pumpkin patch train ride but there was no one at the snack bar. There was quite a few useless staff hanging around though, standing and eating in front of our hangry children then asked me to remain seated because I stood up to take a photo of my family on the train. Made for a sad day. No professionals there to make this operation run smoothly that I could see. Maybe they were in the first class dining car? Who was in charge? There was nothing scenic or special about the ride we took. The kids did have fun on the pumpkin patch barrel ride and they got pumpkins and candy. There are people who work for the railroad that care about the riders and their experience so I'm going to ride again next time we visit. I hope the staff will be better trained and they find a way to be more consistent.

Nicole Thibault

My husband and I took our 15 month old on the Pumpkin Patch Express this weekend. We all had so much fun! Everyone was friendly and helpful. The experience was very laidback. The timeframe was perfect for our little guy. We enjoyed the activities trunk or treating, picking out a pumpkin, and riding the half barrel train. The half barrel train was by far my son’s favorite activity. He also loved looking out the windows of the open air train car and feeling the wind on his face. The weather was perfect for the day!

Jim Webb

We had a great trip. Lunch was wonderful and the ride smooth. Thanks for a wonderful memory!

Susan Gallagher

I am giving it 2 stars because our waiter on the train was fantastic. The only time we could get was the 6 o’clock train. Well, it left a half hour late so by the time we finally left, it was already dark so we did not see a damned thing! The food was ok, not great but like I said, we loved our waiter so it was fine.

Rita Gerenser

We chose the Dining Car trip, the food was quite good, and the staff was excellent. The train ride was very relaxing, but less than ‘scenic.’ Mostly the view consisted of scrubby trees growing along the tracks, obscuring what was probably beautiful landscapes.

Steve Senato

The wife and I rode on the dinner train, it was really great. I've always wanted top to do this and was not disappointed. The food was amazing as was the service, the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately it was a bit foggy, but it did not hinder the experience at all. If you're thinking of taking a ride on the train, do it it's awesome. Thank you Conway Scenic Railroad.

Joy Fox

Wonderful experience in every way. Comfortable carriage car, and was surprised how nice the dining car was. Our turkey dinner was delicious, and you can be proud of your efficient, friendly staff.

Rick Nolette

It was a rainy day so the view was limited but it was a fantastic train ride anyway. We had first class seats but spent most of our time wondering around. the snackbar car had bench seats with tables. At the back was a covered open air car we spent most of our time in. I had cell phone service for most of the way. I lost it for about an hour on the way to Crawford notch got it back at Crawford station. The lunch car was fabulous and so was the service and food. We loved it.

Debbie Seifert

It was a beautiful day In the White mountain area. Absolutely stunning. Wonderful experience from beginning to end by all employees on this train. Thank you for a great time.

Jose Garcia

Nice scenery! The car we were in was not well maintained. On the way back it lost power so we didn't lights or the ability to hear the MC go over some of the route details of the scenery.

Veronique Verreault

There's no way to go in New Hampshire without taking this train! Everything from the train itself, to the view on mountains and music on board is totally awesome! Make sure to reserve your tickets online as this major attraction is always full, especially in fall. Definitely looking forward for our next year trip with all the family!

Stationary Copper

The train ride is neat but if it's later in the year it will be dark a decent portion of the trip. The dinner service was a let down. Portions were tiny and only one plate came out at all hot. Which probably had to do with the fact that the wrong meal was brought out for them first. For over $100 per person once you get drinks and gratuity, I guess just expected better food.

Stephanie Lovewell

We had a great time! My 3 years old love trains and he loved the ride!! The staff was great! Their was an incident and the staff was very informative and kept us up to date as to when we would be back on our way. We will ride again!

Laurie Gallagher

The lunch on the train was awesome. The actual train ride was way too short. I would reccemnded that you just do the scenic train ride unless you are fine with a short ride

Ron & Heather Anne Rahorn

Pros: The guy doing the narration was very animated and informative. The train took off and returned right on schedule. The ride was very smooth. Cons: Buying tickets was a long, laborious process; she was painfully slow; we had hoped for the longer route, but it was leaving before she could get things together. The route lacked the great scenery we had hoped for. Looking Forward: If we ever were to do it again, we would take the longer train and go to a different ticket agent.

Michaela Aparicio

This was a lovely afternoon in North Conway! We were going to do the Bartlett trip, but the train was cancelled, so we ended up going to Conway and back - and an hour on the train was plenty. It kept our three year old entertained for a bit. The trainmen are very friendly. You can walk around the train yard, see the round house, and There is also a great playground right outside.

Laurie Burdett

What a fun day! We loved the ride and it was so fun having lunch in the dining car, an experience that was new to all 4 of us. The lunch menu gave enough choices that we were all able to have something that we all really enjoyed and the staff on board was really fun and sweet to us. Thanks for the fun and unique experience. We were in the CR Reed car.

Holly Plumley

We took the Bartlett train today and it was a nice distance and enjoyable trip for our kids (ages 3.5 and 6). The employees are kind and helpful. We will definitely take a Notch train when the kids are older!

xBattle General

Staff was awesome and lunch car was beautiful. Wish the trip was a bit longer but was so worth the money. Definitely recommend it!!

Caitlin Sinclair

EXCELLENT is the only thing to describe this experience. The ride up to Crawford Notch was stunning and the three course meal on the way back down was wonderful. The service from Susan was greatly appreciated, thank you

Eric Carpenter

Very nice ride! Train was very clean and the food was good. Staff was very freindly. I would do the lunch train again. Family had a great time!

Brian Bell

It's an authentic train experience with New Hampshire scenery and a rustic, rich, old school environment. What's not to love? I'd give it ten stars if I could. Great for train and scenery lovers of all ages.

Chrystal Warren

Had a very good day. It was relaxing with some great views. We were in the Rhonda Lee and the young gentlemen who served us was amazing. He had a great personality and was always smiling

Jen Sanborn

Never gets old. We've taken many rides on the Conway Scenic Railway and each and every run is just as good as the first. The staff is so friendly and informative. And the scenery is always breathtaking, no matter what season were in. Thanks for a wonderful trip! We'll be back soon!

Kathy Smith

Great train ride my brother in law loves trains and I was glad to surprise him with the train ride. We got stick in traffic and they held the train for 5 no idea that gave us just enough time to get on the train. Cullen the young man give info of the train and the info about the ride was very knowledgeable of what was going on. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. I thank them for that. You should NOT pass up the opportunity to take the train, you will not regret it. Kathy Smith Portland, ME

Debbie Hernandez

From start to finish, Larry, did a superb job of keeping everyone abreast of everything happening on the train! He had some funny anecdotes and stories to share, which lended an intimate appeal to the trip, much as a friend would, traveling along with you! My husband is a West Pasco Model Railroad Association member, and has been for many years. He is an avid railroad buff and rates this adventure a 10!!!! I wanted to do this for him and was thrilled with the tour. Thank you for making this such a special event on our jaunt to New England!!!!

skidmarkx 86

Huge let down. Most of the views were of peoples backyards and some guy washing his truck. The staff was great and friendly. The drive up was way more scenic then the train ride.

courtakin23

So fun, try to get on the left side of the train if you can, better view. Emil was great and we were able to sit outside on the return trip! My 6 year old loved it.

Jay Grimmett

I love that they have a snack bar for those in coach and first class!! What a fun and unique way to step into the past and experience the railroad.... we are from Maine we were playing tourists for the day in New Hampshire and this was by far the most memorable thing we did

Natashia Phelan

There is nothing about this trip that wasn't perfect! We loved the clever, informative narration, the beauty of the train and the incredible scenery! We will definitely be returning and bringing more friends and family.

Kerry Mortland

This is our second time on the pumpkin patch express. I think the first year we did it was the first year they offered it. We had 5 kids with us and everyone had a blast- they’ve added so much! The train ride is just long enough for the kiddos. And there is so much to do at the “pumpkin patch”. Considering what you get, I think VERY reasonable priced. For 7 adults, and 5 kids it was $156!

Collin

Great time great ride great staff. I think there was more behind the scenes last night then was told but there were 6 or so items that our group ordered that they ran out of. Would still go again, most likely for a day time ride.

Dusty Hall

Our family was in Conway for Columbus Day weekend and decided to take the Conway Scenic Railroad on the Sunday morning. Overall we enjoyed the trip and were able to relax and appreciate the train ride. Constructive feedback: - For waiting and boarding the train, have a dedicated area established where a line can form when ready to board. Points to consider for guests: - The train will take the same route to/from Conway. If you want to see both sides of the view, try to switch seats to the other side of the aisle after the train stops in Conway before returning. - There are two types of train cars (for coach riders): enclosed and open. If you don't want to be in an open car, you can sit in the closed car and open the windows manually if you desire.

Frank R

What a great experience! My family and I took the 55 min tour. Our 3yr old and 5 yr old loved it. Perfect time on the train for these two.

Daniel MacDougall

Great train ride, great price and great staff running the train. My family really enjoyed the trip and though we only did the coach and shortest ride it was a lot of fun. I imagine all their trips are similar. Perfect for a small kids and adults who like good scenery.

Louis Yacono

Had an awesome time on the Conway Scenic Railroad. The gentleman who gave us the tour along the way was knowledgeable and very kind. My wife and I loved it. The staff was amazing including Cathy who works the will call window. She was so pleasant and very informative. We are coming back in 2 weeks to do the 5 1/2 ride. Can't wait

Cathie Warner

What an incredible day! Being from Florida, we don't get a change of seasons. The Fall Foliage trip on Conway Scenic Railroad was amazing. The food was on the level of a 5 star restaurant. The people were friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this trip!!

Roger Bernier

Enjoyed it very much. I thought we would stop a few times to take pictures but that was fine. Couldn't hear the announcements on the PA. Not sure if it was the PA system or the people being loud.

Eleonora Funk

Today we had an awesome time on the old-fashioned Conway train ride in Scenic Mt. Washington Valley. The scenery was absolutely stunning! Some of the best views during fall foliage that I've ever seen! There's hiking trails, waterfalls, river walks...

Jennifer Jutras

My husband and I decided to take our children (3 and 1) on a scenic train ride to experience all that fall has to offer in NH! We had a great time, and they absolutely loved it. Staff was friendly and helpful, which made it even more worth while. Highly recommend

Rani Zilpelwar

Wonderful 5 hr train ride. Beautiful views of the mountains and passing rivers. Overhead speakers in each train car identify important sites we pass by, in a very easy to understand manner and it didn't feel overwhelming at all. Highly recommended.
