REVIEWS OF Castle in the Clouds IN New Hampshire

Maybe if you went with someone who knew the place you would have a good experience . I however did not .Signs where to buy Stickers to get to the main house were no where but the signs saying pay first were every where. When i asked a staff member the guy acted like i bothered him .Message to the management of this establishment Guests cannot read your minds . Put up a flew signs , also is a guest asks a question of a staff member they should not act like they are being bothered . Might be an interesting place but i will never go back .the attitude from staff seemed like leave your money and leave

This was a nice place to visit while on vacation in New Hampshire. The views are beautiful and the property is amazing. However, I must give it one star because they aren’t kid friendly. They say so on their website, but this is a lie. First off, you can’t bring strollers to the top. That is a ridiculous rule. I had an infant and a toddler with me and had to manage both of them in carriers plus diaper bags. One of the rude workers in the house accosted my mom and asked her to not carry the diaper bag around. We had an infant with us. You never know when you’ll need a diaper bag. Then he told my sister he didn’t want the toddler on her back. She asked him if he wanted the toddler running around? We felt very uncomfortable during our entire tour and like we were annoying because we had kids. They did let me rent an infant carrier at no cost, but I couldn’t wait to get out of there because with babies and small children, you just need the stroller. Not to mention where they want you to leave the stroller there’s no security, and it’s at your own risk. So if you’re wanting to visit the castle, don’t bring kids under twelve. The paranoid staff will follow you around like stalkers and the kids will surely ruin their day!

Michelle Horn

We went in during peak lunch time and they got us out in 40 minutes so that we could go horseback riding. Awesome service!!!

Ambient Girl Relic Hunter

Wonderful place to spend the day. Its worth buying a membership.

Carl P.

Great tour of a beautiful Castle, very interesting history. Hadn't been there since I was a child. Went many times back then. Will be there again many more times.

Frank McAuliffe

Well worth a foliage trip and fun for hiking.

David Belden

Excellent view and a fun mansion to explore. We opted for the basement tour and it was well worth the extra time and the few dollars. Aaron was a great guide - enthusiastic and knowledgeable!

bat1831

Breathtaking views and amazing architecture. The estate is fascinating to see and learn about .

Sue H

Gardens were absolutely gorgeous. You should definitely take the tour and have lunch in their Outdoor Cafe.

G C

It was okay. I definitley think the pictures make it look bigger and alot of the rooms were the same. The mountain view was nice and waterfall. Wasnt really impressed by the mansion. Not worth the money. Maybe if it was $9...

Ollie Hunt

The menu is short. The parking needs more signs about having your receipt and sticker to the castle,so when you get the the walking entrance ,you don't have to walk back to your car to grab it! The staff is friendly, and the views are wonderful! You can see for miles! There is horse back riding guides,a fish feeding pond and alot of trails to hike! The waterfall is Amazing!

fred stanton

Views from the Castle were outstanding , the Castle was full of great history !

Thomas Clark

Great place. Lots to do. Restaurant was fantastic.

Christopher Brodeur

Love this place. The views are incredible. The grounds are gorgeous. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and make it a fun learning experience. Highly recommended.

Sarah M.

Absolutely beautiful! If you are going to NH, this is a must see, and the restaurant food is good, too! I've been here 3x now and its breathtaking every time. Highly recommended!

Shannon Aucoin

So beautiful.. Took a drive up one day to feed the large rainbow trout then did a hike to see waterfalls. Cant wait to do this again..

Linda Q

Hands down my favorite stop during my New England road trip. Such a beautiful home. Feels like a place you'd want to call home for yourself. There's so much detail in the architecture and décor in the house. It has amazing views. There are also trails you can take on the property for a hike and if you get hungry there is an onsite restaurant. The staff and volunteers there were super friendly and welcoming.

brian buckley

After checking the site on line to make sure they were open. I spent two hours driving to get there to find out the place was closed. Not happy. The views overlooking the lakes region was spectacular. Beautiful. Still went all the way to the top. Perhaps I’d have a different and better review if the place was open

K Sullivan

Great views... lots of hiking trails with at least 3 water falls and you can also go horse back riding ...castle is self guided

Iriana Cruz

I had a great time! Its beautiful! The views are to die for! And my Lobster Roll was soo good!

My husband & I stopped in there today for "lunch" It was around 1:00 pm when we asked for our seat. The hostess "Bethany" left us with a very bad impression right off the bat. We walked up & I looked her in the eye & told her Borden.. party of 2.. she looked away quickly & directed her questions to my husband.. um.. well HE'S not going to tell you anything differently than I JUST did. It's bad enough when women are treated unfairly by men but when you see that sexist demeaning attitude coming from another woman it's repulsive. We were told by "Bethany" it would be an hour wait. we waited OVER two hours .. in fact it was closer to two & a half hours. In the mean time I noticed people that came AFTER we did that were seated first. Could it be that happened because when the hostess treated me rudely I mentioned in front of her how I despise being treated differently because I'm a woman .. my best guess is that is in fact the answer. But what REALLY got me is when I brought all to the attention of the manager on duty his reaction was to say "that doesn't sound like her.. and DID YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER STAFF. well.. that alone told me that he just decided I MUST BE THE ISSUE .. not "BETHANY"... I wasn't impressed.. Some sensitivity training MIGHT just be in order here. And if you give them a negative review on their fb page they ignore you .. or they lie and say they sent a pvt message ...As a post note I might add avoid the calamari .. it's extremely chewy.

Theodore Kruczek

Self guided tour through a unique home with a stunning view. Blue star museum - so free for military. The hiking trails around the castle were well maintained. Worth the drive.

Lisa Quan

Wonderful staff who's knowledgable and eager to share their wealth of info. about the home. Gorgeous views too in almost every room.

kelli ward

I recently was a guest at my niece's bridal shower, I was very impressed with the atmosphere, the food and of course the beautiful view. I also want to compliment the bartender Corey, she was very personable, professional and an expert at her job. I would highly recommend this venue for lunch, dinner or perhaps a private function.

Christine Day

Beautiful grounds! Had a great picnic lunch up there recently on a jeep flag run!

Bob Smith

Very nice views from top of mountain. Inside of home beautifully restored.

Love going, was disappointed by the lack of knowledge about the owner. I was there when my girls were much younger, about 25 years ago. Castle water owned the property then and the guides knew everything about the property, family and history. Such a shame to have lost those guides. Still beautiful to see the architecture that was so far ahead of time.

Brittney Pastre

The staff were excellent, the brief overview of the castles history and the backstory behind not only it's architectural integrity, but also the husband and wife who lived there, helped in adding some extra appreciative value I'm not sure would have been there otherwise. The bonus of being able to easily pull off and park in a designated area and take a short walk to see the amazing beauty if the Falls of Song was a very rewarding and redeeming aspect in my opinion. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The trolly ride is an exciting element for any little ones. The only reason I give a 4 star rating is because the enticement of a "Castle" in the clouds is a bit of an overstatement. Especially when advertised as a family friendly attraction. It's more along the lines of a very well maintained and history rich manor than a castle. My daughter kept asking the whole time when we were going to see the castle. Which given the time in which the place was built, very well may have been considered a castle to most. It however does not live up to ones ideas of a castle in any sense of the word. Not even when remaining realistic about what to expect. That being said, the place is beautifully maintained and the other elements offered seemed very enticing given the right crowd and given the reasons for going. I have to agree with others I've noticed mention in their reviews that the place seems more tailored for the "snobby" as myself and my fiance felt as though we were being looked down on and didn't quite "fit in" among the others touring. Although this may be true, don't let it deter you from visiting as it is an incredible piece of property worth experiencing, especially if architecture and history appeal to you!

David Holliday

Amazing place to visit!! Very interesting!

Lauren Turner

A beautiful place with many hiking trails that are well-marked and generally, fairly easy to hike. Visitors are welcomed warmly, and are able to view the horses in their own barn. Their Belgian draft horse is my personal favorite. The only thing I have to say is that the ticks and bugs are very persistent there. It's only natural, though.

James Stolaronek

This place was incredible. Just the ride up the mountain to the castle is awesome. there is a few stops along the road to take pictures or just take in the view of Lake Winnipesaukee. My favorite stop was the one with the waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful. Once you get to the top of the road you park and a trolley takes you the rest of the way up to the Castle in the Clouds. They first give you a brief history of the castle. What impressed me the most was the castle was built with mostly with stones and timbers from the surrounding property. It took a 100 stone masons a little over a year to construct the place. The house fits in with the natural surroundings. Also who ever does the gardening at the Castle deserves a pay raise. They do a great job and the gardens are absolutely stunning, two thumbs up

Jordan Lagana

I didn’t dine here but the overlook on the rear terrace was something to marvel at. They had a small historical exhibit just inside that detailed the refurbishment of the castle in the 70’s.

Diane Dunne

Amazing, with great views. Lovely cafe with even better views.

Heather Jennings

What a beautiful place

Marizol Tosto

Wonderful place

Misty Macdonald

Great place for a day trip. The ride up in the trolley is very nice. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable and willing to talk about the castle and grounds. Love being able to walk around at your own pace and take as long as you want to really look around at all the details and art work in the castle. When your done you can take the trolley back down or take a short trail down and back to the carriage house.

Joe Pusch

I have been to the Castle several times over the years and always had a good time visiting, that is until this past August. Things have certainly changed here for the worse. I went this last time with friends who had never been here before. I had talked up several aspects of the property and everyone was looking forward to seeing the house. Well we found the place in a state of repair and much of what I had told my friends about was either closed off or not on display. Can't help but wonder why they would not try to complete major renovations during the off season when they are closed for nearly 5 months? At least they could throw in the basement tour with the main tour while they have areas of the house closed or ripped apart. Heck even the outdoor fountain wasn't working. On top of all of this the woman who gave the opening dialogue about the property seems to have changed the narrative some? I have heard this story 5 other times and this go around was much changed. Rewriting history? Some of the staff stationed throughout the house were polite and informative but others seemed kind of stuck up? Maybe when they get done with the renovations things will be back to normal but until they do I would not recommend taking the tour.

Robert Mcinerney

Nice nice place. .Everything is Extremely Expensive. .. I mean Everything $$$$$

Zackary Sprague

Amazing place great view Verry cool also any place you'll go in in RI will not let you get as close to the exhibits and excellent staff members

Dyan Kaplan

The absolute best why to start our vacation, kids didn't look at their phones the whole time we were there.

David Rossi

great view, but they will not seat you until the kitchen catches up, you would think they would seat you and hope you will buy drinks while you wait

Fred Koechley

One of a kind "castle." Panoramic views from upscale, indoor/outdoor restaurant.

Kristen Olsen

I've been wanting to go to Castle in the Clouds for over a year. We have a place in Moultonborough... We're looking for a wedding venue. We got to the main gate at 3:06. It was closed and said to go back to a road we passed a mile before. That road did not say turn here for Castle in the Clouds after 3. I don't recall seeing that on the website... We were trying to get to the cafe before it closed at 3:30. We succeeded. They weren't seating people anymore. We tried the bar. There was a high top free. We went to order at the bar and they said they weren't serving anymore. It was before 3:30. Then they said they only serve you if you're seated. My fiance pointed out our seats. They said it was just a waiting area; wouldn't serve us there. We left. It was my first and last experience at Castle in the Clouds. :(

Althea Allard

Even though the day was overcast, we could see the islands on the lake. The house itself is very interesting, with its organ pipes and console, its "modern" conveniences, the central vacuum system, kitchen equipment, the servants quarters, master bedrooms and closets, with "his" far bigger that "hers" much to our surprise. The grounds were lovely, abloom with flowers. The docents added to the information posted in each room, giving us more of an idea of life a century ago. Even the trolly rides up and back were fun.

Dan Salvucci

Had a really nice time exploring this estate. The falls and the estate itself are well worth the admission. If you don't ask questions of the staff you are really missing out on a lot of the information available about this historic place. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The grounds are very well maintained. You will enjoy this stop.

Zak Bettencourt

Volksbahn was great

Ramakrishnan Krishnan

The whole experience of getting here is totally worth it. Depending on which location you are coming from you will pass Town of Meridith NH. Has great waterfront views and Eateries. Castle in the Clouds is open only certain tim w of year. After Entering the main entry point , it is a very scenic drive up the hill. There is a waterfall and a curiously large rock. The estate at the top and the views are beautiful.

Russ Woodmansee

Castle was good, but basement tour is way too expensive. It should be included in tour price or at max $3-4.00 extra.

snowman snowman

It's ok

Tom J

Early nineteen hundreds mansion, quite elegant and luxurious, set in the beautiful nature. You can take tour through the castle, have lunch or refreshment in the Carriage house, ride horses at the stables or hike around on Castle grounds. Staff are pretty knowledgeable and guide you through. I enjoyed my stay.

Mike Forte

Despite google saying open it isn't open till may 25. 3 hours of my life I won't get back....

Diana luxuryretreathawaii Vacation Rental Hawaii

Beautiful and historical place. We took the tour guide which I highly recommend if you want to know more about its history. We also went for a short hike and saw the waterfall. Beautiful place for sure!

Jim Graham

Sunday brunch was great with the lakes region as the backdrop from the dining room. The food was great with lots of variety and the price was reasonable at $22 PP.

Bob Covey

Well worth the time. Be sure to see the grounds.

_Vivix _

Great place to go out and spend a day outside, lots of trails to hike on the way up to the house on top and plenty of cool waterfalls and other spots to see while hiking. If you enjoy hiking this should be a must go visit the views at the top of the mountain are beautiful I shared some photos from my visit. I do plan to go back to explore more of the hiking trails as there was just to much for a single day!

Douglas Park

Beautiful historic home

Mariamne Gurney

I do yoga here during the summer provided by them and love it. Thank you so much for this amazing program

Brigden Summers

Beautiful location and beautiful home

Amy Brown

A wonder ride through a quiet wooded road. You here beautiful birds singing along the way. There is a waterfall stop as well as a few look outs. Once you make it up to the top you will see the carriage house where you can dine outside or inside and catch the trolly to the castle. The castle takes you back in time. It is worth the trip. Once you done with the tours you can visit the trout pond, horses and views. Enjoy!

Daniel Bennett

Fantastic historic site. The hosts really explained the amazing history well. Definitely worth the trip.

David Terry

Beautiful place with an interesting history, and spectacular views.

paul zimmerman

We recently had a serious personal medical incident while dining and the staff went way out of their way to comfort and help patron. We will never forget how accommodating they were and the food and bluemoon beer were great too. They make you feel at home. My kind of restaurant

Oleg Burakov

Nice Castle and great views to New Hampshire region and Winnipesaukee Lake. You can also find nice waterfall there. Highly recommended place in New Hampshire.

Artie Bliss

I just LOVE historical houses like this. Well preserved, absolutely beautiful and inspiring. The view of the lake is absolutely stunnimg. Detailed craftsmanship went into this structure. Interesting history. Very clean and well kept. Staff is very kind and informative. Plenty of parking but a short walk to the ticket vendor is required. On-site restaurant. Worth seeing even for one time.

Bill Bixby

Really beautiful property. Recommend visiting.

Vickie Jacobson

This is a very interesting place that looks back at how a rich man lived his life and there also magnificent views of mountains and our local lake

Kelley Land

Just an amazing place to visit. Beautiful house, gorgeous grounds, and the views are awe inspiring. We ate lunch at the Carriage House and the food was amazing as well.

Joseph Holdom

Beautiful views, even for New Hampshire! The main building itself even has a “scavenger hunt” for the little kids, to keep them occupied as you look around. The employees are very friendly, and will happily talk endlessly if you have any questions. My only criticism is their (although understandable) emphasis on the original owner, who they make out to me a much more interesting person than he was.

Don Clough

Great visit

Stephen Priest

The views are amazing. Seeing the lakes and mountains from the patios, decks or out of the windows, I could see why someone would build a mansion here. The mansion and other buildings are interesting. We visited during the winter and holiday season. Great decorations and having a musician play the guitar added to the ambiance. Staff was very friendly. My daughter was not into the visit to much, except for the bus carriage ride, the kids books and reading chairs and exploring, up to a point. I look forward to coming back in the other seasons.

John Holt

Definitely worth seeing. Great back story and views. Be sure to have food at the carriage house too!

Marcel Caron

Too much money to go up to the castle never made it

Sherry Huebner

Really enjoyed this place, beautiful scenery, if you are in the area I would definitely recommend stopping

Maria Roshon

What an beautiful property! The main house is gorgeous and the craftsmanship and detail in each room is amazing! There is so much to do... touring the main house, hiking the many trails on the property, eating lunch in the carriage house and taking a trail ride. I definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area!

Wendy Krauss

We ate at the Stables Cafe. Only the patio was open. Not enough staff to run two areas. A common problem everywhere these days. The views on a clear day are great, lake and mountains. They provide binoculars on a permanent stand. We particularly like the turkey bird sandwich. But I must say everything we have had there was good to great. They will provide gluten free bread. The fries are crispy, yum. If u are not there when they open at 11: 30 a. M. You may be in for a long wait. But it is worth the wait. There is certainly planning to look at to keep you busy.

Nate M

Amazing place! The castle is beautiful. But hiking all the mountains is even more beautiful

Praveen Shriram Venkatesh Prasad

Breathtaking views . Must visit if you are in white Mountain Area .

BillyJo Conover

Great place

Kim McDade

Breathtaking views, good food, lots of history. Great for any family day trip

Donna Vollert

Beautiful castle and the views are amazing. Good prices and great time seeing history of the castle.

Nikki D

1. The view is amazing....that alone is worth the drive. 2. Not a castle....but more of a mansion- a small one at that! 3. Not kid friendly- even though they advertise and have a scavenger hunt, the kids aren't allowed to touch a thing...including the new redone walls. If you have children I wouldn't go here with them...too stressful. 4. The diner is good... And the view at the diner is amazing. 5. The staff is mostly nice....a couple of rude encounters....but nothing to make a huge note about. 6. The 50 ft. fall driving up to the mansion is nice- definitely walk out to it. It is a one way road ! So you won't be able to go back and check it out. Ultimately, The money Is not worth the value of the trip to tour the mansion. If you want to check out their diner you can go to the two way road..and skip the fee .

Douglas & Audrey Logar

Wow! Just...wow! Beautiful day and a beautiful place.

Joanne Rouleau

We visited Castle in the Clouds on Memorial Day weekend. The staff at the booth was very friendly. She told me to stop along the way to check out the waterfall. This was an easy walk to see a nice waterfall. We then continued on to the overlook where we encountered a staff doing general maintenance. I was disappointed he was not able to answer questions about the view, that was breathtaking! We just missed seeing a bear along the road up to The Castle.(The car behind us got great pictures!) The trolley to the Castle was a nice addition. The Castle itself was under renovations on the outside. The staff and volunteers were friendly and informative! I feel it is overpriced but worth seeing on a nice day. The grounds are pet friendly. The parking lot to the Castle has plenty of shade so our dog was comfortable in the car while we visited the Castle. We then drove to see the horse barns and walked the Brook trail. This is a short hike (15 minutes) and we got to see the guided horse tours walk by us on the trail! *Beware that this trail is Tick infested. We found at least 10 on our small dog! There are tables for a picnic and ice cream for sale near the trout pond. You can also feed the huge rainbow trout! Overall, an amazing place to visit ! You can hike the trails or eat at the carriage house without paying an entrance fee!

Justin O'Connor

Just great...

Kris K

The castle is beautiful! Very interesting to hear its history and see its features. The view was the best part ....amazing!

Ashley Knutson

This place is gorgeous. Chris, our trolley driver, and Joan, our orientation guide, were wonderful. All members of the staff are passionate, enthusiastic, and an absolute delight to listen to. I particularly enjoyed the stunning views and carefully curated scenes in each room. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a sense of whimsy and adventure. I can't wait to go back and try the basement tours or the astronomy nights, which I was told happen once a month. Amazing!

Anne C

Beautiful! Good food, great view, excellent history lesson! Highly recommend!

Dave Terpeny

This place is amazing. Staff is very knowledgeable, the history and architecture are fascinating. and the view is unmatched. Also some gorgeous scenery and stops on the way up. A great day trip for couples and families.

Dave Schappell

Awesome views from the outdoor patio, and the restaurant has really good food -- it's a favorite place to take NH visitors.

Erin Chase

This is suck a cool place to go to

Deanna Connell

History was very interesting. Very Friendly Waitstaff:)

Warner Arthur

great place to visit

Heather Woods

Went during business hours but couldn't buy tickets because of a wedding. That was a long drive for nothing they should list on their website they are closing early or have set hours that close in time for weddings. Very disappointed.

Nanci Hanover

Gorgeous views!!!

Ralph Visco

Went to a wedding there and it was simply breath taking.

Mandy

This was a lovely way to spend a gorgeous afternoon. A shuttle takes you to the top of the mountain, where you can do a self guided tour of the place. Highly recommend this!

Donald B. French

The restoration work is very good. The "Castle" seems much than I remember from my childhood visits. Tremendous views of the lakes and mountains.

Lisa Pearson

It was such a beautiful place for a wedding!!!

Don E

Enjoyed the special evening tour event. To experience the Castle as it would have been on a fall night back in the 20's was Wonderful. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was also very nice to tour the Castle at our own pace. The dedication to restoring the Castle as per the peroid is impressive and appreciated. A must visit!

Timothy Hineman

Very much worth the drive

Lawrence Menten

The mansion is amazing with an astonishing setting and beautiful vistas. The gardens are wonderful and the staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and approachable. They were a terrific enhancement to our visit. Recommend this to anyone. We'll go again before the vacation is over.

Johna DeVoe

Beautiful Castle/Home, loved the extra Basement Tour we took.

michel vieira

What a lovely place. $18 per adults, $13 senior children under 4 is free. Great, great view of Lake Winnipesaukee and the restaurant is affordable plus the view.

Michael Huard

Nice place to visit if you like the outdoors and nature... See 100 year old home of the wealthy!

Terrance Dunnavant, MA

The place reeks of snobbery; from the cost to the staff. The waitress in the restaurant was the only person who actually smiled and gave us any type of service. The house orientation guide (Joanne) was the equivalent of a horrible school teacher that attempts to control the class with snide remarks and commands. It ruined the whole experience of the house. The hostess in the restaurant blatantly ignored us and attempted to seat the party in line after us first. We protested and she got an attitude; didn't ask whether we wanted to sit inside or out and assumed we'd rather sit in the hot sun rather than the cooler interior. We had to insist otherwise - again we were met with an attitude. Although the waitress we had was very sweet and helpful, the food brought to us was the worst we've had since we began visiting New Hampshire many years ago. The soup was served lukewarm, the hamburger bun was cold as ice in the middle, the burger I requested mid-rare was burnt to a crisp and tiny. The whole experience was just a joke at that point. We left feeling like we'd wasted half a day of the limited time we had to spend in the lakes region. The whole place has such an attitude of "I don't care" and it left us feeling like we don't care for the place either.

Stephane Gingras

Pretty cool attraction to visit if you're in the area. The drive up to the mansion is excellent with some beautiful waterfalls. Once at the top you'll be able to tour the mansion which has been restored and is very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful with breathtaking views and fragrant flowers. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. Budget 2 hours to get through it. Add another hour if you plan to have lunch on site.

Ed Kenney

Wonderful place

Franziska Riede

Beautiful location, very interesting building and the views are amazing. I had a great time driving up the old carriage road. That was a lot of fun.

Stephen Burger

Really cool stop up in nh. Awesome history and amazing interior. The views on the property are amazing.

Michael Daly

A fun trip with the family. Not too expensive and well worth the cost. Interesting, informative and educational opening talk when you arrive at the main house. Take your time with no pressure to explore the house and property. Staff was friendly and helpful. Views were amazing. Plan the day and enjoy the other amenities such as horseback riding and more. The house and its history are truly amazing. Take a step back in time to see how life used to be.

Tiffany Nadeau

It was so beautiful. I have lived in New Hampshire my entire life and had never been. The views are simply amazing as is the "castle" itself. I highly recommend a visit!

Lisa Spence

Panoramic vistas, lovely guides with tremendous local knowledge and a truly remarkable home showcasing advanced and innovative early 20th century design

Deborah Medeiros

Beautiful place to visit. Nice trails to walk. We had a wonderful lunch with a breath taking view!

Ryan Redman

The whole family had a blast!

Richard Tasker

Well worth a visit. They are slowly restoring the entire "castle" to the original design. Built in the early 1900s with very modern design. Central vacuum! Multi-spray showers. Massive refrigeration setup and freezer. Central heat. Way ahead of it's time.

Laurie Cushing

Pretty views and loved hearing about the history of the property. Pick a clear day for the views of Lake Winnipesaukee!

B Leighton

What a beautiful place, had a great time with my husband and kids. spectacular views

Jim Brown

Awesome history, views, well versed staff and a great place for the youngsters and the young at heart.

Donald Tongue

An interesting relic of early 20th century capitalism in a beautiful setting. They've done a great job of restoring and preserving this time capsule.

Marin Bolko

We hike here all the time, there's a nice pond full of giant rainbow trout that you can feed. Bring lots of quarters and exchange them for pellets which you can throw to the fish and ducks

Chelsea McGovern

Tour was alright. I've been to several different mansions and historic houses around new england and this one was very bland, nothing in the rooms, barely any furniture. It was like minimalists lived here before their time. They were doing renovations, not sure if it had something to do with it? Honestly pretty boring for $18 a piece. The views outside were INCREDIBLE though! Best part of the entire thing.

Robert Siebert

Beautiful place to visit or have your wedding up there.

Cathy Elliott

This place is an exceptionally beautiful place to visit. Once you go there you'll want to visit regularly to follow the progress on the restoration they are doing to this oasis in New Hampshire. You could go there and make a day of it. They have a restaurant for lunch, an orientation and then a self guided tour of the stunning Mansion. They also have trails with thousands of acres of hiking. There is Shanon pond with huge fish and ducks to feed. This place is a true treasure and an amazing destination.

Bruce Rudie

Well restored home with a million dollar view

Kyle Manuzzi

Nothing more to say about this than all the workers are super knowledgeable of this place. The grounds are well maintained and it just looks awesome to see this place with some of the items that would have been in the home when the original owners were there and get a better idea of life in the times.

Khanh Nguyen

Historical Castle. Very beautiful in the Fall, you could spend your whole day just for this place. If you travel to New Hampshire, you should check it out this historical sight seeing Castle.

Thuany Olinger

Breathtaking views especially during the upcoming fall season! Horse riding, trails, photography, restaurant with scenic views, free parking and much more to enjoy here!

Shantell Capone

Had a great time wished there was more color. But they guy said it's was about two weeks behind. Next time we would love to do your hiking trails

Gregory Rosic

Fun way to spend a few hours. The falls on the way up is definitely worth seeing, then basically it is a mansion with a great view and 100 yo furniture. Not that interesting for children or worth doing twice.

Keith McAuslan

The view was amazing and the forward thinking of the original owner was inspiring. Living here must have been incredible. This is more of an educational location than entertaining. I would recommend it for all ages.

Greg Rice

Dedicated group who are working very hard at restoring a very unique homestead. A work in progress with a very well constructed building

Absolutely stunning architecture and views!

This is a must-visit attraction if you're in the area, combining an old estate with a restaurant and visitor's center. The house is definitely worth seeing, featuring spectacular views of the local area, and the interior is decorated festively during the Christmas period. I loved the house and the history but the restaurant is a disaster and doesn't seem to be able cope with any volume of traffic. If you eat before visiting, you'll have a better time.

We didn't go into the castle but spent an hour or so hiking on their trails. We decided we'd like to go back and do some more exploring, it's a very pretty place.

Ruth Jett

Amazing place. It is beautiful inside and outside.

Breathtaking views, facinating, cutting-edge amenities for a home in that era--loved it!!

Great hiking trails of varied distances, perfect for a day visit for families. Not challenging... but exceptional for casual hiking. Wonderful waterfalls!

This is the first time I have ever left a review, for anything. This is one-star place to bring kids. I called beforehand and was told there would be a scavenger hunt for children in the castle, there is a pond to feed the fish, there are horses, and there’s a trail with waterfalls. In reality, the castle is incredibly not kid friendly. There are signs everywhere not to touch anything and the scavenger hunt was a simple list of things in the house (e.g., “stove”). The prize was a branded tattoo. We then stopped by the horse stable and my son was zapped by the electrified fence. When we very nicely told the staff that we recommend they put up a warning sign, they barely responded and definitely didn’t apologize or express any concern. no one said a simple, “Are you ok?” There was no fish in the pond, and the waterfalls are basically a stream with some rock overhangs. If you’re adults and enjoy history and a nice estate, this might be for you. But if you have children of any age, they’ll be incredibly bored and disinterested. The staff have no idea how to interact with kids. This was no worth anywhere near the $50 we paid for entry and was a waste of a day.

If you have the chance, do the basement tour! It costs extra, but is well worth it! Beautiful spot, friendly, knowledgeable docents, interesting history.

Valerie Cole

The Lakes Region Trust, who purchased the Lucknow estate several years ago, has done lots of work to restore the place to it's original glory. Don't miss the cellar tour, worth the extra money.

Dann Mailman

Love this place. Friendly staff. Great views.

Beautiful mansion in the mountains with amazing views on a clear day. You can take self guided tours and there are many employees there that can answer questions and give a lot of history of the story of the house. You have to pay at the gift shop and you can ride the trolley from the carriage house to the mansion. There is also a small restaurant at the carriage house for small meals & snacks.

Dan Jasper

Amazing property with gorgeous views. This place seriously looks like something from a Hayao Miyazaki film! Would give five stars but the entrance fee is really high (however if you want to further support their cause, the gift shop is very reasonably priced).
