Amazingly well kept farm and animals. Friendly staff!
Lively farm and historic site.
Amazingly beautiful. Eorking farm of Jersey cows. A tribute to the life and times of great men and their families establishing and preserving life as it was years ago. Educating generations of visitors to understand the importance of land preservation, historical preservation, agricultural preservation. Enjoyed petting cows, baby calves and goats amoung picturesque fall hillsides. Great pleace for entire family and all cultures:)
Beautiful area . Loved the animals. Very informative.
Fantastic place for kids
This is an important museum with respect to the history of agriculture in North America. It is desperately undersold. The advertising should make much more of its importance and how interesting the place is. We went by accident, thinking that it was a petting zoo for children and were delighted to find how interesting it was.
Great staff! Very knowledgeable.
Not what I expected
Father's Day special, dad's free admission. Fun time making ice cream and meeting the farm animals. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
I have been here at least twice and it's awesome! I saw the Tractor event in 2014! I will be back as this is one of a few top spots for me to see in Vermont!
Outstanding tour and tour guide. Very informative of America's earlt conservation movement. A must see
A nice farm to visit but was hoping for more interaction with staff and animals. Most of it is self guided. A little pricey.
A great place to see old and new farming techniques. The museum is really well done. The movie explaining the property is top notch. Go down to the barn about 3 pm and watch the award winning jersey cow get milked.
Love seeing the beautiful Jersey's and talking with the barn individuals who share similar view of breeding cows for longevity.
Very cute animals and historical land. Staff is very informative.
Family friendly activity in the Woodstock area. Kids and adults will enjoy meeting jersey dairy cows, gorgeous 1 ton muscular Belgian horses, and calves in the nursery. You can get up close and personal -- petting the animals, watching the milking process. They give free samples of the cheese and also had hot apple cider on the day we went. It was a great activity for the non skiers in our group.
Amazing farm
Wonderful place glad we found it
We never tire of visiting this working dairy farm. We enjoyed the sheep dogs and seeing sheep sheared this weekend
We went on a group tour to this place. It was during thier anniversary celebration. They had music, food, activities, and even some old time baseball. It was a fun afternoon.
This was interesting for a quick visit. Really no physical guidance as you go through the buildings, etc Very confusing when going through the different buildings! Note: They do NOT allow pets! But they have cows, chickens a.d pigs on site... Wierd!!!
Great farm
Learned much...
Beautiful place, very organized, and very friendly staff.
The best icecream, and I really enjoyed the tour off the place, loved the 4 day old calf.
Not a national park even though they share space so it is confusing. They do not accept national park passes. Addmission is $16 (2018 summer price).
It was great, very unique, great experience
We love this farm and museum. It brings back the real Vermont to my wife who was brought up nearby on farm. So great we come often and are members.
Wonderful place for kids. My 15 year old son did not want to leave. He was pushing aside 5 year olds to pet the baby goats...not really but he probably wanted to. .
I recently visited Billings Farm in April of 2019 expecting to find a loving sanctuary for the farm animals. Instead I was horrified by what I witnessed. As I entered the calf pen I discovered a calf bleeding profusely from his head lying in blood covered straw. The calf in the pen next to them, who was also recovering from dehorning had a tear stained face. I was appalled to learn that Billings Farm routinely mutilates its calves in a cruel process called dehorning. In the dairy industry workers burn away calves’ horn tissue with hot irons or caustic chemicals, gouge their horns out with sharp metal scoops, or chop off developed horns with guillotines and handsaws. When I commented to the farm worker she smiled and said it is all part of their childhood ! Seriously ? This is unacceptable we must speak up for the voiceless ! Workers use a number of painful of methods to remove calves’ sensitive horn tissue—each one more horrifying than the last. Intense pain is evident from what I witnessed on my visit. Dehorning is completely unnecessary. "There is a simple and humane alternative: breeding for polled cows. The American Veterinary Medical Association, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and third-party animal welfare auditing groups recognize the benefits of polled genetics for the dairy industry, so there is absolutely no reason—and no excuse—for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue. Please do the right thing and take action today.” Ryan Gosling Dehorning is one of the most painful things done to cows used by the dairy industry, and the time has come to phase out this cruel mutilation.
Our family LOVES Billings Farm. It is great fun for all ages. The sleigh rides in the winter, the wagon rides in the summer, the baby animals in the spring. The staff is lovely! There are lots of great activities for kids. The old house is great to tour. The scenery is awesome. Make a day of it and visit The Worthy Burger in Quechee for lunch afterwards!
Very nice farm and museam. Their icecream was great!!
Great place to learn about farm life and technology advances that put Billings on the map. Also in the quaint town of Woodstock with its great rural atmosphere and restaurants. Like being in Europe.
Annual Windsor County Quilt show was fabulous.
Great place. Staff is friendly and informative. Loved petting the cows and goats.
Had fun with the family an awesome place to learn about farming and the history behind Vermont farmers.
Such a fun place to take your family, we loved meeting the cows!
Cute farm. Friendly staff. Be nice for kids to see farm animals.
What a fun way to check out the rich history of Woodstock. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and informative. Loved checking out the newborn cows. Plus getting to see the history of the farm was really cool. They do such a good job of displaying the history in an informative and interactive way. My wife and I will be back when our little one is older
Our family was there September 14th, 2019. All 8 of us had a wonderful day. We saw many antique farming items. The farm was clean and family (children) friendly. The staff was amazing!!! Thank you!!!
It wasnt what I was expecting. I follow them on Facebook and it looked like a great place to visit with fun things to do. It was expensive to get into and I felt like I wanted my money. They didn't have much going on that was fun for all ages.
Really interesting history of the farm and the region. A most enjoyable visit.
Loved the new barn.
What a wonderful visit! A bit pricey but well worth it considering all of the animals, demonstrations and tours you can take. Definitely a fan favorite with the kids. The town itself is very cute and seems like you can sort of park and walk.
Very nice family place
Nice place to visit with kids. Variety of animals to see and they usually have some kind of events or demonstrations scheduled. Ample parking and interesting mansion across the street.
Peaceful clean area
A great place to learn about life on the farm in the early 1900s and a great way to get up close to cows\horses\sheep etc
Nice place
Such a wonderful place to visit. Everyone was very cordial and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
Today is the 35th anniversary celebration. A wonderful place to visit with children.
It's a cute place. If you like history, and getting up and close with some animals this is a great place. Also the cheapest place in the area I found to get the Billings cheese. This cheese is 12/10 cheddar, and they have samples for you to try. The 29 minute video is worth the wait, it is genuinely an interesting story.
Great place to purchase maple syrup and the tour is good I would have tried the cheese except I am lactose intolerant, and could not determine if it was extra sharp and aged at the time = best to be safe
Educational farm about the late 18th century. Excellent for kids
16$ for an adult admission which I thought was pricey. Beautiful farm with friendly cows. Children and adults alike will have fun here.
This is a small farm family owned with years of incredible history. We really enjoyed the cow milking show and found the staff so helpful and friendly. We had an amazing time, we did this with our 3 and 1 year old and they plus the Adults all loved it!
Super nice and helpful guides. We didn't go into the farms but walked the carriage trails that were well groomed and easy. I wore inappropriate footwear for the walk and I had no problems walking the trails.
Great exhibit / video telling you the history of the farm. Tons of beautiful spaces to explore a and walk around, meeting the different farm animals. They have dairy cows, sheep, horses, and chickens. Try the cheddar from their gift-shop, you won't be disappointed!
Superb.
Only a dairy farm with cows. Horses, pigs and chickens are less than what you might find in a house in the country side. Museum has farm equipment from pre-industralized age. Staff was very nice. Ticket costs are high
Excellent. Plan on spending 2 hours minimum. Parking is at farm across the street
Wonderful. I'm ready to move there
Fantastic family experience.
Americana and the birth of land conservation in America
Awesome facilities. Great staff. Beautiful farm that is well worth the stop.
It's a fun family day. The staff was informative and interesting
Fun farm goats were funny
Wonderful historic stop with interesting houses and displays.
Arrive so you can do the movie approximately every 30 minutes at the entry or the rest won't make sense. Make a reservation once you arrive for the mansion, tour the visitor center, the barn and make the Farm House and Mansion fit in after the movie. Allow 1 hour for the Farm House. Didn't have time to do Mansion, but I'd allow an hour. Very interesting.
We love Billings Farm!! You can get up close to the animals, see history relived and travel back in time. All in a beautiful setting! Perfect family outing!
Absolutely fabulous. Love the animals and the people are great too!
Clean, beautiful and educational
This is an incredible place. Meet animals, pet cows, and just explore an incredible farm.
A great family destination with animals, activities, tours and a dairy bar.
A must see! You will like it. For all ages
Beautiful farm! So much to learn, don't miss it!
Save your $. It's a couple cows, goats and chickens you can get close up to. Not worth $25 a pop at all. It should be "donations accepted" for what is offered.
Very fun and educational place to visit on vacation!
I grew up in the country side and did not quite get why I would pay $20 per person to see a few cows and horses. Yes, they have cheese tasting and small demos, but nothing too special. On the other hand, the Billings Rockefeller park next door is prime trail running ground.
Great place, cute cows ;)
Big farm lots to do, friendly employee s
Wonderful peek into how the super rich lived when modern appliances did not exist. We got the winter tour, along with a horse drawn sleigh ride and a tour of the house and stables. The most memorable part of the experience was seeing young calves in the barn, so much like baby deer. This place and its grounds are a national historical park so that must be worth something as well.
Love the baby calves!!! So cute ..got great pictures of my kids and the farm animals Also take horse sleigh ride..its great
Beautiful place..
Definitely worth visiting. Very clean farm and a educational experience
Such a peaceful retreat for anyone that loves nature. History, animals, gardens and chocolate milk. What’s not to love
Very unique walk through farm
Loved it
Outstanding working farm/museum My family had a wonderful visit to this working farm/museum. Every person we interacted with at the farm was informative and hospitable -- from the person who sold us our tickets to the people in the dairy to the people working in the house. I particularly liked how the wagon ride is INCLUDED in admission. We had a great time, loved the gift shop, and learned quite a bit about late 19th century cutting edge technology.
Was incredibly fun watching sheep shearing and the border Collies herding the sheep.
Cute place, great ice cream, good history in the museums.
One of our favorite parts was petting the sheep! But we loved being to see up close all the cows, calf's, horses, pigs, goats and chickens!
Amazing for animal and history lovers
Watch the movie about billings farm and the important men
My boyfriend and I brought our child, and his 9 year old cousin, and my sister to Billings for baby animal weekend. We walked through the front doors and was greeted by what seemed to be the only happy person working there that day. She directed us where we had to pay to enter. The “ticket lady” was so unfriendly, only said our total and took my money. No hello, no smile, nothing. Wasn’t going to let it ruin our experience, so we went on our way. We arrived in the first barn, saw beautiful draft horses, cows, and walked down to the calf room. I’m the biggest fan if calves, honestly. I didn’t think anything could have ruined my day being in that barn. BUT, we went into the dairy end of the barn and an old man “greeted” us. Telling us it was feeding time so we needed to get out of the way. We understood the feeding time, we’ve both worked on farms. BUT, try to be friendly maybe? Don’t tell us get out of the way. We left the barn and went to where all the baby animals were, expecting friendlier people to greet us there. Unfortunately, we walked into this day with high hopes. You would think that you’d at least smile while on the job, especially seeming how baby animal weekend was so advertised. Whomever was working that day was extremely unapproachable. We spent $56 for an unfriendly staff, that made us feel unwelcome to be there.
Great sight to see
Great experience for the whole family
Watch them collect the bovine lactation sauce for cabot cheez
I loved seeing all the baby animal but I really wish the baby's got to stay with there mom for more then they do now or then but it was still fun..
Best butter cheddar cheese ever!
Great interaction for kids, Adult can learn something too!
Lovely site for animals, beautiful landscapes and history.
Great place the Museums is awesome!
Working dairy farm with up close and personal Jersey cows and calves plus large Belgian horses a museum in the farm house. Well worth it even if you live in cattle country.
Really cool operating farm and museum in the beautiful green hills of Vermont. It seems to be a great stop for all ages and interests. We loved visiting the livestock and restored farmhouse. This is a must see spot if you’re in central Vermont for a few days.
Billings Farm and Museum is a delightful, don't miss kind of place located close to Woodstock, Vermont. Most importantly, it is a working dairy farm, much of which is smoke free, where you can witness the many aspects of life on the farm and the cows, chickens and horses. A real treat is the 1890 farm hose, fully furnished as it was back then and mostly open to the public. You will also be treated to an oversized, and unbelievably delicious, home-made ice cream cone in one of several flavors. The Vermont Farm Life exhibits are extensive and intriguing and this city person amazing things that I had never thought of. There are films to see and audios to see all in magnificent Vermont surroundings. There is a lovely walking path and the expected gift shop. If you live within 100 or so miles of Billings Farm, it is a worthwhile day trip. If you are just passing through the area, I encourage you to add it to your itinerary.
Excellent place to visit if you ,travel to Vermont. Place to learn about agriculture, actual working farm! Great for the whole family.
Love Billings Farm!
A wonderful family outing. Excellent and knowledgeable interpreters! Plenty to do inside and out!
Fun place for kids under 12. Chance to pet the baby cows, see horses, and see how people lived 150 years ago. Plus ice cream!
Visited Billings Farm on a Sunday afternoon in August. The grounds are beautifully kept and you get to interact up close with the animals. We pet dairy cows, draft horses, and a dwarf goat! Staff was friendly and informative. Would absolutely recommend for adults and children alike.
Great place to take kids if you want to see a farm and animals. Very friendly cows
Had an amazing time at this historic sight. Very nice people. Lots of history here
Very nice place to go with the family. Or even on you own. They do very well at showing / talking about it's history.
Love tractor day
Love cows, love sheep, love horses it’s a great experience coupled with the national historic park across the street.
I love that Billings is a continuously running farm. There is always something to do. The kids loved the sunflower maze and surprisingly the cheese making demo.
Excellent family entertainment. Beautiful farm. Great hiking trails. Well informed docents!
Beautiful natural scenery, historical homes, museum and a farm in quaint Woodstock, Vermont. A must see!
Great farm great for the whole family
Great demonstrations in the farm house....
Our tour was based more on the building itself than the history behind it. The tour guide was more concerned with giving us rules (don't touch, only walk on the carpet, etc.) Then actually sharing interesting history. My family and I were very disappointed.
Billings Farm is a lovely place to spend an afternoon. I recently went to Baby Animal Day and it was so fun to pet all of the animals, learn about their cheese production, and get some ice cream while looking around at Picturesque Woodstock, VT. It's a perfect activity for families or couples! Enjoy!
Great working farm. Nice visit.
Interesting glimpse into the history of this farm. We really enjoyed exploring on our own and taking time to learn some of the history from the various guides, which were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Great that it's still a working farm and wish we had got more of the butter cheese which is amazing!
We didn't go to the farm but we went to the mansion and got a tour. Joe was our tour guide and he was very nice.
Good for kids
Fabulous place for families to visit! Working farm. Knowledgeable staff. Lots of educational activities for all ages! A must see!!
It was a rainy day when we went so perhaps the facility was not at it’s best. This is both a museum and a working dairy farm. The exhibits are good but not as nicely done as we’ve seen lately. The staff were adequate but with the exception of Cyndy and Greg in the Cow Barn were not exceptional. Still, worth a stop.
Beautiful scenery, always something interesting to going on, love the cows. Has restroom, gift shop, amazing ice cream!
This working farm and museum location was so lovely, fun, and educational. In a very "close-up and personal" fashion, we saw a dairy farm and cow nursery operation as it was in small farms before heavy automation... and were highly captivated. Though far from our first farm tour, this one felt more intimate. We were so well informed by all the guides and were fortunate enough to have one highly knowledgeable guy covering multiple areas with us (thanks, Greg -- we totally enjoyed you!). The story beyond the farm operations that is so important to learn is how the 3 distinct men and their families invigorated early capabilities for Vermont that built industries but also helped shift enterprises to work with conservation and sustainability at its core. Marsh was the initial visionary who established the farm and built something special from the start. Billings then developed conservation and technology advances to spur sustainable growth. Finally Rockefeller came along later to preserve the present and then gift the story and work for the future to all of us for many years to come. The story is richly layered and laid out well in their 30 minute film in the visitor center. So, was it fun to pet baby and mama cows, goats, and sheep ... absolutely! Did we enjoy learning more about the making of cheese and butter ... we did! And the farm house where you can (lightly!) touch an era long gone was great. But we also came away with much more, including wanting to learn/do more for conservation. We hope you enjoy and learn as well!
Great experience! Really neat to learn about the Jersey cows and the history of the farm. If you are a Triple A member or military be sure to tell them when purchasing tickets to enter.
We had a lot of fun this weekend. My son loved all the animals. The farm house is beautiful! I feel like there really wasn’t as much to the farm as I expected but our experience was pleasant. There is some construction currently.
Appreciated the free film in a nice theater in the lobby showing the fascinating history of the farm and the story of the first owner, Marsh, who wrote the first book in America about preserving the ecology of nature around human development. Also the story of the Billings and Rockefellers coming to Woodstock and creating thoughtful landscapes and resorts.
Such a great place. Interesting exhibits and knowledgeable people giving talks.
saw the baby animals just wish there was more to see/do although it was raining.
Beautiful and very well preserved estate. Very educational. It was great to chat with the many well informed workers on site.
Been going for years...love it
A fun stop with the kids
A beautiful museum and well kept farm. The kids loved the experience!
Wonderful time with the animals and my son! Sunflowers were amazing
Billings Farm is a beautiful place to spend the day! The grounds are amazing and the farm animals are so fun to see. They often have interesting and educational events going on - I was lucky enough to go during a Sheep Sheering & Herding weekend and watching the Border Collies working was the best!
Great Family Farm Experience
Enjoyed everything we participated in. The topper was seeing a calf being born. Perfect experience for a (facebook- Simple Earthy Family) traveling full-time.
This place is beautiful and well done. The barns are very clean and the kids can pet baby cows.( Sooo frickin cute) Very nice place to take the family. Before you're done for the day, stop in the gift shop and buy the large blocks of cheese, all 3 flavors, or you WILL regret it as I do. Small blocks don't last long. I guess ill just have to go back.
Woodstock Vermont is worth visiting just to see Billings Farm. The most beautiful Jersey Cows you have ever seen.. not just my opinion, literally the cows are show cows and win competitions. The cows have been breed from a long line of elite Jersey Cows that go back over 100 years to the Rockefeller! Weather you are 6 or 60 you will enjoy this farm/ museum.
Great place to see a working farm and wonderful grounds.
I had to do a project on vermont and it is officially the worst place in the world
When you just have to talk to the cows!
1890's creamery and farm. Nice museum, animals, delicious local ice cream, well informed guides.
Very cool working farm with sunflowers, chickens, cows, horses, and goats.
Beautiful farm, nice people and the baby cos were adorable!
Beautiful place wonderful history. Such a lasting memory.
Fun day, very educational and gorgeous setting
Far too much money for what it is. We are grateful for the preservation of dairy farms in Vermont-- that is an important part of the state's history and is part of what we hoped to see. We are not sure if this is what they are doing here, because the organization makes no attempt to clarify their mission. Upon arrival, we were asked for $38 for two adults. We then discovered that half of the property was closed and under construction. Very little to see... some minor exhibits were available. Places to walk were corded off. All the animals were inside, even on a comfortable spring day. The areas that had animals were blocked, even though it appeared like what would be a logical access point to view them, and even though there was no construction happening in those areas. For such a large piece of property, the areas where visitors could walk were extremely cramped, almost to the point of being non-existent. There was a noticable absence of any docent around to share the history of the property. No discount even if there is only one hour until closing time. Shame on them: this is clearly a tourist trap and poor representation of true Vermont dairy heritage. Preservation of Vermont's dairy history is very important! It was a huge part of what Vermont was and it is now sadly disappearing. We found no value here. There are genuine dairy farms across the state that would love visitors no doubt, and that provide a richer experience. I hope our hard earned money will go to good use here, but we are skeptical. People work hard for their living and travel here on their precious days off. Taking this away from a family for a sub par product is highly inappropriate.
Back to 1890's, a spectacular, immaculate working farm, with a great ice cream stand, I recommend the strawberry!
We were there for the visitor's center, which is a pretty long walk up the hill.
