When you arrive at the park to your left is the submarine and to your right is the gift shop/museum. Upon entry of the gift shop you pay to be able to enter the submarine. The gift shop is relatively small, including memorabilia advertising the sub such as hats, shirts, posters, and post cards. If you take a left and walk straight through the gift shop you find yourself in the museum, which though it is merely a small room has a flatscreen playing a documentary about the submarine when it was still being used and a great deal of artifacts. Upon entry of the submarine itself I, proudly standing at just 5'4", had to crouch to enter the doorway. This is the case for 99% of the doors going through the ship, and there are a lot. I would not recommend visitation to this sub if you consider yourself clostrophobic, as it is a very confined space throughout. Other than that they do a great job at keeping the place clean and preserving what the sub looked like when it was in use. As a Nh resident near Portsmouth, as long as the above mentioned would not bother you, this is a must-visit for sure.

If you haven't taken a trip to see this gem, you should. Enter the museum and watch a brief video on the history of the sub and check out the artifacts. Tour the sub and hit the audio buttons to hear actual voices of the men that served aboard. See how they lived and worked in such small spaces. Walk the well manicured grounds and read the memorials. Well worth the eight dollars!

Nice to see and appreciate what our navy men went through to protect our freedom.

Naval history at its best. Working my way through this vessel, because there's no clear way to just walk through, I got the clear sense that there was no way I could survive weeks and months underwater in this thing. My respect for all submariners has grown immensely. A special thank you to all the Cold War vets who kept us safe.
