Had an awesome experience here couple years ago. We loved the ride on the open train. Very safe for everyone as long as parents monitor your children. Very educational and informative. Everyone is so nice and receive you with a smile. All the people volunteer their time and effort to make everyone's experience excellent. I plan on going back and taking the 2 new additions to the family and making new memorable moments. Thank you guys!
I bring my son to ride the train every month. He loves it. everybody is so nice and can answer any question about trains or the city n its history
What a great little experience. Very friendly staff.
Great place for the terrain race
The trains on display here were very cool! So much history. However, it is the volunteers that make this place so great! I had a 10 minute conversation with the gentlemen inside the one coach about the history of the train and the owners. It was awesome! Then I took the 35 minute train ride from the station. It was a nice, calm ride with some nice scenery. Would definitely visit again!
Fascinating and free! Lots to see and do.
I've gone here 2 times the past year and my son absolutely loves it. The train ride is not too long that the kids get ansy but long enough that you can enjoy the beautiful scenic view. The staff is so wonderful to all the kids
Very very interesting, lovely very hard working volunteers
Very interesting place to visit. I especially liked the curator who spent nearly an hour talking to me. Thank you very much!
We love going to the train on the weekend. My kids love the train ride and we always do the Pajama train at Christmas!
1st timers! Great experience for our 2 year old. Fun family night. Think we have a new family tradition!
The outside musuem is nice with 4 rail cars you can go into and explore. The train rode was about 40 min and very enjoyable. Will be doing this again.
Loved thiz museum. Free and very interesting. Friendly staff. Worth the trip out of Vegas.
Interesting and a fun way to spend the afternoon. Docents were friendly and informative.
The rail trains are really neat to look at. The plaques are infomative. My family went there for a fun family photo shoot. The employees were really nice. There is a train you can pick up here and do a train ride with, it seemed popular, however we didn't do it.
Great place would recommend a visit even if it's closed plenty to see.
Nice excursion from Las Vegas.
Rail museum with vintage and newer engines. The older mail cars are accessible and have some neat history, with video narration of how they operated. The newer engines are used to pick you up at the end of the rail bike excursion. The museum is closed for parts of the summer, or on really hot days. Make sure to call ahead to make sure they're open!
If you have kids this is a great spot to spend a few hours. See and hear the history of the Railroad that built the Dam and Town of Boulder City. Plenty to see for free. The train ride is 40 minutes long and the volunteers where happy to answer questions and share the history. Really a fun way to spend a few hours with family and friends! Excellent ride love the place the ride and the stuff is great and friendly I wish I can give them more stars!!!
I have been coming here since I was a kid. It's always a good experience and the staff is always friendly. They were very kind and interactive with my kids. I do appreciate that they have air conditioned cars, in July that is a necesity
Wonderful fun time. Great place to take kids. 3 different trains you can ride plus museum and small well priced gift shop. Went for Santa train and had blast.
We had so much fun. It was our first time visiting and it will not be our last.
Great attraction to bring kids! The train runs only on weekends, every 90 minutes from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and goes from the museum to Railroad Pass casino. We arrived at 1:35, and it hadn't yet departed, so they held the train for us to buy tickets and board.
Good free place to look at trains.
Brilliant place to visit staff are very friendly
The staff and train ride were good, but they left 15 minutes late waiting on passengers. That's disrespectful to the passengers that showed up on time, a majority being parents with small kids. If I showed up late, I'd expect the train to leave without me. Maybe I'm old fashioned? The bathroom is out of service, you can guess how that went with a 4 year old and almost and hour on a train.
We truly enjoyed walking through the railway cars and see the history. We will definitely make another visit. Recommend for the family to have a relaxing day.
This was a nice Railroad museum.
Great place for the family or date. We very much enjoyed our ride. I noticed they have these bicycles for the tracks now also, cant wait to try those out!
Excellent, employee Lesslie made it perfect, tks
Everything was very professional and the staff was helpful when we're approached them. Considering the majority are volunteers, we're we're impressed with their performance.
This place is awesome. The staff is volunteer, and they know a lot about the trains, and the dam. They have some pretty incredible static displays as well as a train to ride. If you are thinking about it, just go
So much fun information. The new rail explorer is an amazing trip. You must coneor and try it.
My 7yr old really liked our little trip here. There's 3 train cars to choose seating from, so don't just settle for the first one.. We choose the back because it was quieter. The model train car display is pretty small (and warm), but my son liked it still. And last was the small stream rider train, highly recommended this one. It's free and run by retirees but it does deserve a tip if you carry cash, a fun little ride and was our favorite part.
Great Place for the Kids and anyone who loves trains!
My son loves the train rides. It is really a shame we didn't try this sooner.
What a great place to visit for all ages! I cannot wait to go back! All Staff are amazing!
Lovely museum! I highly suggest doing the rail explorer when it's in town and ride some rails on a bike. Then ride a classic train.
Great train ride. Super staff!
Wonderful place to go alone or couple or family. Train ride beautiful! Don't last long, but perfect! Definitely recommend! Kids will love it any age!
Rare RARE train cars. And a TREMENDOUS amount of historical knowledge from Randy and his crew. Highly recommend.
Ride the railway was so much fun. My wife and I did this with her grandparents so this is for any fitness level. You are in a rail cart which you petal about 4 miles down the track. Once at the end there is seating where you wait for the train to bring you back to the station. We had so much fun. The museum at the station was awesome and we learned a lot about the early rail system in the area. Highly recommend checking this out.
We went on the one weekend a year that they are closed down. No signs to state they were closed. Luckily somebody answered when I called and let me know it was closed, but there was a crowd waiting and I told him they should come and put a sign up. I'm sure it's really nice though and once I get back there to ride the train I'll revise my rating. We went Dec 29th I'll up my review to three stars it's fair to say we enjoyed checking out Boulder City. Unfortunately I work weekends and it'll be a while before I get another vacation to get up there for the train ride. Still looking forward to it.
Nice place to visit. 30 minute train ride on old train for $10 is nice with being able to see a few of the old trains that were restored. Worth the drive to Boulder City.
The Nevada State Museum was interesting. It was very small, but enough to see so the kids won't get bored easily. It is free, but they accept donations.
I really like taking this train. It is a nice escape from town, and the views are relaxing. The prices are kind of much, when u have a family of 4. $30 is kind of much for what u get, in my opinion.
Fun place to take the family
Great place. Kids loved to ride the train. I wish the model train layout was open. Stuff was nice and great with kids. We even got on the engine after the ride.
I loved visiting this place and going thru the staged train cars there after the train ride of course.
I'm not even into trains and felt this was a fun and educational experience. I highly recommend the train ride and the upgrade to help operate the train too.
We loved it! As did my granddaughter. The train takes you through the mountains and terrain. We sat in the open car and it was wonderful. Very peaceful and a beautiful way for all to enjoy God's landscape.
The staff and volunteers here are absolutely wonderful. I love the museum and so does my son!
We visited on Halloween weekend, got to see all the kids dressed up, what a hoot !!!
Super great museum with real rail locomotives and cars as well as great running model train displays to watch in several scales! Riding the Santa Amtrack train for 10 miles was an event the family will always remember! Only $10. The Museum is free. Also got to ride the 1887 live steam locomotive in the yard for free.
Wish I could have been there when they were open.... Still got to look around.
Has great antique/ vintage trains to check out. Many Thanks
What a wonderful set of Staff and volunteers, well done all for keeping these marvelous feats of Engineering in running condition.
Visited today, made to feel most welcome, great staff, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about thier exhibits, the history and the museums future plans. Well worth a drive out if you're in vegas, or visiting the Hoovef dam.
If you like trains, you will like the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Informative, friendly staff.
Terrific organization that has been able to showcase historic trains while integrating into the Nevada landscape and history. When in season, the Rail Riders are a great way to get some excercise while taking in the expansive desert views.
Very nice. Please donate so places like this stay open!
Lived in BC for 4 years and never went here. That was 25 years ago, and finally just visited this place. Well worth the visit.
This is an interesting museum with well labeled displays. Train rides are on weekends. Plenty of free parking.
It was wonderful seeing the train and being able to ride on it.
Great history there.
John was an outstanding host and interpretor.
Had a great time here. I was a chaperone for my daughter's first grade class outing. Never knew about this place until I was invited to go with the Walter Bracken Magnet school. The children had an awesome time during the train ride and the introduction to the train history. I learned a lot about trains that day, myself. Great little outing for the kids. By the way. There's a lot of hands on train stuff for the little ones.
Can't wait to retire.
Took our 2 year old here and had an awesome time! Every employee was very friendly. We took a train ride where they offered crafts and stories. They even had used books that we could take home. We were able to walk inside most of the trains. Great experience if your little one likes trains!
So much fun! Definitely one of our favorite spots in Boulder City. Enthusiastic staff and wonderful trains!
Lots of interesting information about railroad and train rides for $10
We loved this museum! When we went it was about 99 degrees and it was empty since it was a weekday. There aren't that many trains but the trains there are so beautiful and the history behind each one was amazing to learn. It is free entrance and free parking. On the weekends you can ride do a 35min train ride. I forget how much it costs but it is not much. I am definitely coming back for the train ride on a weekend.
Very knowledgeable staff with some classic cars that are being restored, great piece of Nevada history and also had a fun trip on the train for only $10. If you’re an aficionado you can ride up in the Engine or even learn to drive the train.
Bring the kids / fun for all ages as it is a historical place
Great time. Friendly staff that are very passionate about trains. If you are going to ride make sure you are ready for a little bit of exercise. The last leg uphill cam be a bit changing but was worth it. If you have a toddler the have seatbelts for them. We went and it was a bit cold but once we started pedaling we warmed up. If you love trains they have a volunteer program. Use the restroom before you leave the station and pack a lunch to enjoy a picnic at the end.
This train museum is awesome. Every third Saturday of the month they have a kids story time, while you ride the train a short distance. There are other train models you can tour as well. It's a fun little excursion for the kids and any train enthusiast.
This was a lot more fun than I expected. We arrived just in time to catch the last train ride of the day. I'm from Chicago and ride the train every day to work. Yet this was a completely different experience.... got to see old non updated cars and sat in an open train car (which Chicago weather could never handle). Train went slowly down the 4 mile track, stopped, and went back. Interesting to see the mountains from this perspective and learn from the knowledgeable conductor (who is amazing with kids by the way). After, we wandered through the train exhibits. It said museum on the website, but really it's a bunch of old train cars parked in one spot, and you can go in some of them. It was fun to see the old mail car and a real luxury travel train, reminiscent of Murder on the Orient Express. Husband loved it and chatted with the museum's members who were all very friendly. Thanks for the experience!
This small railroad museum really impressed me. The ride was just long enough and scenic if you faced opposite direction up and back down the line. The old dudes on the train are so friendly and chatty. There were children of all ages sitting thru out the train. One section is a open car which added to the excitement of the ride. I have told anybody I know when they go to Vegas its a "must do" while they are in town as a day trip.
We went because it was our first tourist trip of the day. We checked out the trains and it gave you a glimpse of how up to date the trains were back then providing all the amenities to the customers in the trains that long ago. The father and son who help restore some of the train are great as well. If anyone could help them find service bell number 4 in the car i am sure they would be ecstatic
Went here to help my brother do his eagle project, a cool place to check out history of trains and whatnot
Just a handful of engines & cars to look at but seeing inside a mail car was neat. Fun to ride on the train, just not much to see, really. It's run by all volunteers so definitely support them if you get the chance to stop by.
Small collection of train cars. I took the train ride and sat in the open car in 100 plus degree wether, but had a nice chat with one of the conductors. An air-conditioned car offers story reading for kids, and the author's books are for sale, so I stocked up for the grandkids! A nice place to get away from the craziness of Begas.
Always had a love for trains
Fun train ride. Great museum. There is a lot to see on the weekends.
Very interesting history and clean place considering it's not inside a building. Well worth visiting Boulder City and the museum
We took our 2 year old grandson to the Halloween train event. There was alot of fun things for the kids to do besides ride the big train. They had a scavenger hunt, a pirate train and an area set up to play games! It was a fun day and we are looking forward to coming back for the Santa train!
Great for family fun, the kids will love it.
Santa Train is the best! We enjoy our time here every season. It really is the best way to see Santa!
Small museum but very nice collection and friendly staff
It was a fun adventure. I will be going there again.
Grandkids loved it. Volunteers made our day Super!
Definitely worth a visit, fun for the entire family of all ages. Prices were very affordable to ride the train. Favorite part was checking out the older locomotives that were on display, nothing like being able to go inside them and look around. Very impressed by the huge toy train set up, to see multiple trains running through the village at once. I do wish that the train ride went longer, it wasn't scenic or anything, felt like we went half way before going back the way we came. Definitely will be back again next time I'm in the area #DFMI
Nice little stop and the guides know their stuff.
My family and I went for the Christmas train. We had so much fun we got to see Santa. We enjoyed a nice little ride. It's definitely way more fun for small kids but it was so worth it.
Awesome place for a quick experience! The day I went there the trains weren't going out and for the most part I had the museum to myself other then the very helpful and detailed guides that were nearby. The rich history of such a significant part of America's foundations takes to back to a much different time. I imagined myself just climbing into the cabs of the steam locomotives or working on one of the passenger cars hearing the clacks of the wheels, passing town to town. Overall a very beautiful experience and photogenic in all regards!
They will let you DRIVE A TRAIN! (18 and over, for a fee.) My kids and I did this and it was awesome. I mean, how many people can say they drove a train? The volunteers there are very nice and knowledgeable. The place is out in the hills, so the scenery is so beautiful and relaxing. Big thanks to Chris and all the staff.
Such an amazing little place. If you're a nostalgia geek, train buff, or just wonder over history, this is a cool place to step back in time for both the kids and the kids in all of us.
