REVIEWS OF Nevada State Railroad Museum Boulder City IN Nevada

Had an awesome experience here couple years ago. We loved the ride on the open train. Very safe for everyone as long as parents monitor your children. Very educational and informative. Everyone is so nice and receive you with a smile. All the people volunteer their time and effort to make everyone's experience excellent. I plan on going back and taking the 2 new additions to the family and making new memorable moments. Thank you guys!

Dallas M

I bring my son to ride the train every month. He loves it. everybody is so nice and can answer any question about trains or the city n its history

Michael Hillestad

What a great little experience. Very friendly staff.

Angelia Schneider

Nice exhibit...pleasant way to spend time. There are 2 reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5...the first being that only 2 of the exhibits could be entered and viewed, and neither one of those were an engine. The second reason being that the train ride was pretty boring...nothing to see but desert, road construction, and the remnants of homeless dwellings...pretty sad

Tim Phipps

My family and I had a great time. We enjoyed this much more than the Grand Canyon railway trip. We just wish it were longer. If you go in the summer be prepared to be cooked. They have overhangs but not to effective. It's very informative if you can stay awhile and read the signs. Volunteers are very friendly. I hope that they can stay open for a long time.

kellkoolguy

Great place for the terrain race

Sarah Evangelista

The kids loved it (6 & 8 years old)

Cynthia Anderson

Best family day trip!!

Claire White

The Museum has an eclectic collection. Although it's a lot of fun to see the trains, the interpretation is all over the place, and there's not really a cohesive narrative. If you don't already know about the railroad history of Southern Nevada, it would be confusing. The model train setup is cute and well constructed, but it is not representative of Southern Nevada at all. And there were no Las Vegas specific model trains on display even though Lionel had made a few. The train ride is definitely fun for families and the Museum does a great job of creating and promoting public programs, but the exhibits are average.

Katie Leavitt

Wonderful place to take your family for a short train ride on a very old wonderful train with a fantastic crew.

Taylor Larsen

We went on the santa train. They went above and beyond. Santa and elves everyone made it special.

Alicia Moon

The trains on display here were very cool! So much history. However, it is the volunteers that make this place so great! I had a 10 minute conversation with the gentlemen inside the one coach about the history of the train and the owners. It was awesome! Then I took the 35 minute train ride from the station. It was a nice, calm ride with some nice scenery. Would definitely visit again!

Jack Flynn

Fascinating and free! Lots to see and do.

Christina Gonzales

Be there on Saturday for the train ride

Cassie Tisdall

I've gone here 2 times the past year and my son absolutely loves it. The train ride is not too long that the kids get ansy but long enough that you can enjoy the beautiful scenic view. The staff is so wonderful to all the kids

Barbara Wooffitt

Very very interesting, lovely very hard working volunteers

Jaimie Schaneman

My son loved this place and it was so educational!!!

David Krabbe

Very interesting place to visit. I especially liked the curator who spent nearly an hour talking to me. Thank you very much!

alexis noggle

We love going to the train on the weekend. My kids love the train ride and we always do the Pajama train at Christmas!

Amber Williams

1st timers! Great experience for our 2 year old. Fun family night. Think we have a new family tradition!

Desiree Debien-Garnica

The outside musuem is nice with 4 rail cars you can go into and explore. The train rode was about 40 min and very enjoyable. Will be doing this again.

Frank Carroll

A great museum representing the railroad history of southern Nevada. You take a forty minute excursion of the original (1931) railroad line that connected Boulder City to Las Vegas, NV., and carried the equipment and materials to the site for building Hoover Dam. The trains run on weekends during the year with special Santa Trains, and Pajama Train in December.

Larry Wilmot

Loved thiz museum. Free and very interesting. Friendly staff. Worth the trip out of Vegas.

Lehnanne Gibbs Kidd

Interesting and a fun way to spend the afternoon. Docents were friendly and informative.

James Ackerman

Kids love it there for the Santa train. Only thing is you have to make sure you get your tickets online. They sell out fast. It's a good few hours to spend there.

Shannon Knight

The rail trains are really neat to look at. The plaques are infomative. My family went there for a fun family photo shoot. The employees were really nice. There is a train you can pick up here and do a train ride with, it seemed popular, however we didn't do it.

sue moss

Great place would recommend a visit even if it's closed plenty to see.

Keitha Munerlyn-Perry

even though the ride was not long and the visit with Santa was very short. We still had an awesome time.

Thomas Bonsey

Nice excursion from Las Vegas.

Barbara Greenway

Great. Really enjoyed the train ride

Mike Warren

Rail museum with vintage and newer engines. The older mail cars are accessible and have some neat history, with video narration of how they operated. The newer engines are used to pick you up at the end of the rail bike excursion. The museum is closed for parts of the summer, or on really hot days. Make sure to call ahead to make sure they're open!

David Pierce

If you have kids this is a great spot to spend a few hours. See and hear the history of the Railroad that built the Dam and Town of Boulder City. Plenty to see for free. The train ride is 40 minutes long and the volunteers where happy to answer questions and share the history. Really a fun way to spend a few hours with family and friends! Excellent ride love the place the ride and the stuff is great and friendly I wish I can give them more stars!!!

Karen Millett

We had a wonderful time experiencing the old-time trains we also took the rail runners exploration. That was a lot of fun. For something to do on a weekend you must go see this place.

LUCY BRICKMAN

VERY ENJOYABLE AND THEY HAD THE BOUNCE HOUSE AND A FEW PUMPKINS.

Maria Black

I have been coming here since I was a kid. It's always a good experience and the staff is always friendly. They were very kind and interactive with my kids. I do appreciate that they have air conditioned cars, in July that is a necesity

Bob Reinecke

Wonderful fun time. Great place to take kids. 3 different trains you can ride plus museum and small well priced gift shop. Went for Santa train and had blast.

Veronica G

We had so much fun. It was our first time visiting and it will not be our last.

Huy Nguyen

Entire staff was friendly and very informative. We only did the train ride which was very exciting even for the adults, so glad we did it.

Andrew Logan

It's a museum, for trains, that move. It's cool.

Maribabaz

This place is great! Bring the whole family! Kids 3 and under ride free!!! If you have a Nevada state museum (depending on location) it covers museum entrance and train

Shannon Burger

Great attraction to bring kids! The train runs only on weekends, every 90 minutes from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and goes from the museum to Railroad Pass casino. We arrived at 1:35, and it hadn't yet departed, so they held the train for us to buy tickets and board.

Akash Ramani

Fun place for a random downhill ride on old train tracks

Tammy McCurdy

I am so glad the old railroad has volunteers sharing their time to give people a good experience on the train. And showing displays of different trIns and showed us what some of the quarters looked like.i have brought my daughters and my grandchildren. I have one more daughter and my grandson and my family all loved the outing to NEVADA STATE RAILROAD.

Sabrina E

My son loves this place! Definitely recommend !

Daniel Torres

Good free place to look at trains.

Clayton Folk

Very neat train ride. Rode in the caboose and it was one of the best train rides we've been on. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will be back here when kids are old enough to ride in the engine! Cool place to check out.

Claire O'Gorman

Brilliant place to visit staff are very friendly

Danielle Matson

Had a really good time! The employees were great with the kids and the kids had an awesome time! Plan on spending about 45 minutes to an hour here for the train ride and the small , but cool train museum. There is also a ride the rails attraction we're definitely going to do when it warms up! Thanks guys!

Brian Okiec

A gem in the desert, go see it.

Paula Kerr

We took my 2yr. old great nephew there. He is obsessed with trains. He had such a good time and the ride was short enough that he did not loose intrest. I would highly recommend this to any person young or old!!! The train crew also make the trip enjoyable for the older crowd! Have fun!

Todd Akes

The staff and train ride were good, but they left 15 minutes late waiting on passengers. That's disrespectful to the passengers that showed up on time, a majority being parents with small kids. If I showed up late, I'd expect the train to leave without me. Maybe I'm old fashioned? The bathroom is out of service, you can guess how that went with a 4 year old and almost and hour on a train.

Lisa Strickland

We truly enjoyed walking through the railway cars and see the history. We will definitely make another visit. Recommend for the family to have a relaxing day.

David Schmitz

This was a nice Railroad museum.

Sydney Mercer

Great place for the family or date. We very much enjoyed our ride. I noticed they have these bicycles for the tracks now also, cant wait to try those out!

Karlana Kulseth

Took four of the five kids to this pretty neat train museum! There are trains to ride, most are free. There are a few train cars you can actually go into where they have information set up about the purpose of specific cards. My three boys enjoyed running in and out of the trains and riding on the Boulder City short tour bus. The museum has big expansion plans for the next two years and are looking for certified volunteers that can help restore train cards that are not available for the public to peruse. This includes a dining car that currently only has refrigerators working. They wish to refurbish this car to be able to provide a full dining experience to 48 guests on the tracks.

K. E. Melton

Fun birthday ride

Garry Followill

Excellent, employee Lesslie made it perfect, tks

Livio Waits

Everything was very professional and the staff was helpful when we're approached them. Considering the majority are volunteers, we're we're impressed with their performance.

Nathan Adams

This place is awesome. The staff is volunteer, and they know a lot about the trains, and the dam. They have some pretty incredible static displays as well as a train to ride. If you are thinking about it, just go

Michele Peres

So much fun information. The new rail explorer is an amazing trip. You must coneor and try it.

AM1350*US Internet Radio

Great to step back and enjoy life and take in some history

Nick Smith

We love it here - a very interesting museum, the staff mega friendly and the train ride is great. We can't wait to go back once the extension to Henderson is operational.

Nicole V

Very nice place. The kids loved the train ride!

ranaleigh collier

Was amazing i love it fun for kids

Victoria Taylor

My 7yr old really liked our little trip here. There's 3 train cars to choose seating from, so don't just settle for the first one.. We choose the back because it was quieter. The model train car display is pretty small (and warm), but my son liked it still. And last was the small stream rider train, highly recommended this one. It's free and run by retirees but it does deserve a tip if you carry cash, a fun little ride and was our favorite part.

Jeff Holt

Great Place for the Kids and anyone who loves trains!

Joshua Kolbe

My son loves the train rides. It is really a shame we didn't try this sooner.

Laura Lindstrom

Always lovely visiting the Railway Museum. The volunteers are amazing and helped to accommodate my son's chair without being asked during storytime.

Mark Kunie

What a great place to visit for all ages! I cannot wait to go back! All Staff are amazing!

Dachande Wuffsteiger

Lovely museum! I highly suggest doing the rail explorer when it's in town and ride some rails on a bike. Then ride a classic train.

Jason Tomei

Great train ride. Super staff!

Dennis Meyer

Nice ride

Richard Bennett

The folks that work there are soooooooo great! Bring the kids, and be a kid yourself!

Ms. Jewel

Wonderful place to go alone or couple or family. Train ride beautiful! Don't last long, but perfect! Definitely recommend! Kids will love it any age!

Nick Schale

Rare RARE train cars. And a TREMENDOUS amount of historical knowledge from Randy and his crew. Highly recommend.

Ro Roberson

So interesting!

John Gilman

Will be taking the kids again soon short ride but really cool train museum and tour. Fun small train to ride too. The staff was really friendly and great with kids. Priced really good not to expensive.

Charles Wiggins

Ride the railway was so much fun. My wife and I did this with her grandparents so this is for any fitness level. You are in a rail cart which you petal about 4 miles down the track. Once at the end there is seating where you wait for the train to bring you back to the station. We had so much fun. The museum at the station was awesome and we learned a lot about the early rail system in the area. Highly recommend checking this out.

Tarah Barnes

We went on the one weekend a year that they are closed down. No signs to state they were closed. Luckily somebody answered when I called and let me know it was closed, but there was a crowd waiting and I told him they should come and put a sign up. I'm sure it's really nice though and once I get back there to ride the train I'll revise my rating. We went Dec 29th I'll up my review to three stars it's fair to say we enjoyed checking out Boulder City. Unfortunately I work weekends and it'll be a while before I get another vacation to get up there for the train ride. Still looking forward to it.

Caren Cadieux

We went during the week when the trains were not running, still very interesting. Good family place.

Snow QQ

Nice place to visit. 30 minute train ride on old train for $10 is nice with being able to see a few of the old trains that were restored. Worth the drive to Boulder City.

magurka Martha

The Nevada State Museum was interesting. It was very small, but enough to see so the kids won't get bored easily. It is free, but they accept donations.

Rowena Holt

Great place for kids aged 3 to 99! Real Trains, Model Trains and more to do! Mostly Free, some things have a nominal fee. Runs entirely on donations and purchases.

nevy seymour

I really like taking this train. It is a nice escape from town, and the views are relaxing. The prices are kind of much, when u have a family of 4. $30 is kind of much for what u get, in my opinion.

Jensen Torres

Fun place to take the family

Bondh20polo

Great place. Kids loved to ride the train. I wish the model train layout was open. Stuff was nice and great with kids. We even got on the engine after the ride.

Iman 22

I loved visiting this place and going thru the staged train cars there after the train ride of course.

Kirk Buckley

I'm not even into trains and felt this was a fun and educational experience. I highly recommend the train ride and the upgrade to help operate the train too.

Francis Lee

We loved it! As did my granddaughter. The train takes you through the mountains and terrain. We sat in the open car and it was wonderful. Very peaceful and a beautiful way for all to enjoy God's landscape.

Faux

The staff and volunteers here are absolutely wonderful. I love the museum and so does my son!

Blair Van Vliet

We visited on Halloween weekend, got to see all the kids dressed up, what a hoot !!!

Concordio Bacalso

Very nice place.

Honda Zeke

Super great museum with real rail locomotives and cars as well as great running model train displays to watch in several scales! Riding the Santa Amtrack train for 10 miles was an event the family will always remember! Only $10. The Museum is free. Also got to ride the 1887 live steam locomotive in the yard for free.

Mike Townsend

Wish I could have been there when they were open.... Still got to look around.

Katie Jane Huff

What a terrible waste of $10. You pay $10 for a 10 min ride down a track and back and you get a photo with santa on the train. Seriously not worth the time and drive there.

Ray Turner

No Small but nice displays. Tour of restoration shop good. May have short ride by now. Worth a stop if in the area.

Jeffrey Thompson

What a fun train ride highly recommend and don't miss the museum

Shane Tomlin

Has great antique/ vintage trains to check out. Many Thanks

DawnAndrew Barnes

What a wonderful set of Staff and volunteers, well done all for keeping these marvelous feats of Engineering in running condition.

Ian Morris

Visited today, made to feel most welcome, great staff, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about thier exhibits, the history and the museums future plans. Well worth a drive out if you're in vegas, or visiting the Hoovef dam.

Jomar Madrinan

Great place to take your son or daughter if they love cars/trucks. Make sure to bring a blanket if you choose to go on the open air carts!

Paul Uhrich

If you like trains, you will like the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Informative, friendly staff.

Jeff Walker

Amazing and helpful staff. Quick and easy access to a train ride. They went out of their way to talk to my kids and keep them engaged and feeling like it was a rewarding experience. Sold us a train themed water for a dollar. Was well worth the stop and kids loved it and talk about it. It isn't some full featured stop but it's exactly as advertised.

John Calvert

Terrific organization that has been able to showcase historic trains while integrating into the Nevada landscape and history. When in season, the Rail Riders are a great way to get some excercise while taking in the expansive desert views.

Jesse Anstine

Very nice. Please donate so places like this stay open!

Todd Shaul

Lived in BC for 4 years and never went here. That was 25 years ago, and finally just visited this place. Well worth the visit.

Duane Hinkle

This is an interesting museum with well labeled displays. Train rides are on weekends. Plenty of free parking.

Barbara Anderson

It was wonderful seeing the train and being able to ride on it.

Microbudget Filmmaker

Lots of fun for young kids who love trains. Bring the whole family. And promote John! Fantastic volunteers who work here-great team! God bless, -Jake the film guy

Richard Roes

Lots of fun. Interesting railroad displays.

Jimmy Haberland

Great history there.

Ringdocus III

John was an outstanding host and interpretor.

Anthony W

Had a great time here. I was a chaperone for my daughter's first grade class outing. Never knew about this place until I was invited to go with the Walter Bracken Magnet school. The children had an awesome time during the train ride and the introduction to the train history. I learned a lot about trains that day, myself. Great little outing for the kids. By the way. There's a lot of hands on train stuff for the little ones.

Connie Bennett

Santa train was so much fun!

Dan Mahnke

Can't wait to retire.

Thomas W

Great little railroad museum.

arlene garcia

Took our 2 year old here and had an awesome time! Every employee was very friendly. We took a train ride where they offered crafts and stories. They even had used books that we could take home. We were able to walk inside most of the trains. Great experience if your little one likes trains!

ShaRhonda The 1 N Only

So much fun! Definitely one of our favorite spots in Boulder City. Enthusiastic staff and wonderful trains!

Mara Centers

Lots of interesting information about railroad and train rides for $10

Stephen Kelleher

Lots to see and ride that old Union Pacific train too!

Vanessa Mendoza

We loved this museum! When we went it was about 99 degrees and it was empty since it was a weekday. There aren't that many trains but the trains there are so beautiful and the history behind each one was amazing to learn. It is free entrance and free parking. On the weekends you can ride do a 35min train ride. I forget how much it costs but it is not much. I am definitely coming back for the train ride on a weekend.

James Chilton

Very knowledgeable staff with some classic cars that are being restored, great piece of Nevada history and also had a fun trip on the train for only $10. If you’re an aficionado you can ride up in the Engine or even learn to drive the train.

Chrissy Goodrich

Free to the public, it was amazing to be on the tracks used to build the Hoover dam!

Riptide LLC

Bring the kids / fun for all ages as it is a historical place

John Colclaw

We had friends in town and wanted to do something different. My wife and me were impressed with the facility and experience.

G.Q. Mitchell

Great time. Friendly staff that are very passionate about trains. If you are going to ride make sure you are ready for a little bit of exercise. The last leg uphill cam be a bit changing but was worth it. If you have a toddler the have seatbelts for them. We went and it was a bit cold but once we started pedaling we warmed up. If you love trains they have a volunteer program. Use the restroom before you leave the station and pack a lunch to enjoy a picnic at the end.

Zuri holton

This train museum is awesome. Every third Saturday of the month they have a kids story time, while you ride the train a short distance. There are other train models you can tour as well. It's a fun little excursion for the kids and any train enthusiast.

Sandra Mertens Lo Galbo

This was a lot more fun than I expected. We arrived just in time to catch the last train ride of the day. I'm from Chicago and ride the train every day to work. Yet this was a completely different experience.... got to see old non updated cars and sat in an open train car (which Chicago weather could never handle). Train went slowly down the 4 mile track, stopped, and went back. Interesting to see the mountains from this perspective and learn from the knowledgeable conductor (who is amazing with kids by the way). After, we wandered through the train exhibits. It said museum on the website, but really it's a bunch of old train cars parked in one spot, and you can go in some of them. It was fun to see the old mail car and a real luxury travel train, reminiscent of Murder on the Orient Express. Husband loved it and chatted with the museum's members who were all very friendly. Thanks for the experience!

Michele Nakamura

Most of the museum and gift shop only open on weekends. The address on the website should be 601... Not 600.

Maieee WR

This small railroad museum really impressed me. The ride was just long enough and scenic if you faced opposite direction up and back down the line. The old dudes on the train are so friendly and chatty. There were children of all ages sitting thru out the train. One section is a open car which added to the excitement of the ride. I have told anybody I know when they go to Vegas its a "must do" while they are in town as a day trip.

Bryan Koch

We went because it was our first tourist trip of the day. We checked out the trains and it gave you a glimpse of how up to date the trains were back then providing all the amenities to the customers in the trains that long ago. The father and son who help restore some of the train are great as well. If anyone could help them find service bell number 4 in the car i am sure they would be ecstatic

Paul Birney

Excellent exhibits. In perfect condition. Plenty of photo opportunity.

Brock Jenks

Went here to help my brother do his eagle project, a cool place to check out history of trains and whatnot

Denyse Arles

Not much to see. The model train exhibit was closed and there was only one car. open to look through.

Judy Hines

Just a handful of engines & cars to look at but seeing inside a mail car was neat. Fun to ride on the train, just not much to see, really. It's run by all volunteers so definitely support them if you get the chance to stop by.

Kenneth Wright

Small collection of train cars. I took the train ride and sat in the open car in 100 plus degree wether, but had a nice chat with one of the conductors. An air-conditioned car offers story reading for kids, and the author's books are for sale, so I stocked up for the grandkids! A nice place to get away from the craziness of Begas.

Chris W.

Always had a love for trains

Don Finney

Fun train ride. Great museum. There is a lot to see on the weekends.

J Bo

Just awesome! Sit by conductors and get helpful tips about their operation! Decent price and very helpful staff

Hazel Bean

Very interesting history and clean place considering it's not inside a building. Well worth visiting Boulder City and the museum

Jeanne Pairman

We took our 2 year old grandson to the Halloween train event. There was alot of fun things for the kids to do besides ride the big train. They had a scavenger hunt, a pirate train and an area set up to play games! It was a fun day and we are looking forward to coming back for the Santa train!

Ivan Ramos

Great for family fun, the kids will love it.

Lisa Dean

So much fun! The scenery was beautiful. The first part of the tour you get to ride a pedal car. You pedal mostly down hill, so it is easy for all family members. Bring water or a picnic. Then a train picks you up to take you back to the starting point. The Nevada mountains are nice to look at. And the staff are very friendly and answered all your questions. This adventure is seasonal. I can't wait to do this in the fall.

Dawn Marie Bernhard

Santa Train is the best! We enjoy our time here every season. It really is the best way to see Santa!

Laurenz Edelman

Small museum but very nice collection and friendly staff

Linda Lysz

It was a fun adventure. I will be going there again.

Harvey Winer

Grandkids loved it. Volunteers made our day Super!

Cindy Berg

Cute, authentic, unique

Stenson Enterprises

So much fun! The pajama train.

oscar macias

Loved this museum even though the tours were closed when we went. The pavilion has enough trains and gear to look at and read about to stay busy a couple hours. Good stop on the way to Hoover Dam.

Tia Johnson

Definitely worth a visit, fun for the entire family of all ages. Prices were very affordable to ride the train. Favorite part was checking out the older locomotives that were on display, nothing like being able to go inside them and look around. Very impressed by the huge toy train set up, to see multiple trains running through the village at once. I do wish that the train ride went longer, it wasn't scenic or anything, felt like we went half way before going back the way we came. Definitely will be back again next time I'm in the area #DFMI

Conrad Mondle

Nice little stop and the guides know their stuff.

randi woodruff

My family and I went for the Christmas train. We had so much fun we got to see Santa. We enjoyed a nice little ride. It's definitely way more fun for small kids but it was so worth it.

Kevin Glynn

Awesome place for a quick experience! The day I went there the trains weren't going out and for the most part I had the museum to myself other then the very helpful and detailed guides that were nearby. The rich history of such a significant part of America's foundations takes to back to a much different time. I imagined myself just climbing into the cabs of the steam locomotives or working on one of the passenger cars hearing the clacks of the wheels, passing town to town. Overall a very beautiful experience and photogenic in all regards!

anne pi

They will let you DRIVE A TRAIN! (18 and over, for a fee.) My kids and I did this and it was awesome. I mean, how many people can say they drove a train? The volunteers there are very nice and knowledgeable. The place is out in the hills, so the scenery is so beautiful and relaxing. Big thanks to Chris and all the staff.

David Gerard

Such an amazing little place. If you're a nostalgia geek, train buff, or just wonder over history, this is a cool place to step back in time for both the kids and the kids in all of us.

Ron Keathley

Excellent, I certainly recommend this place.
