Very cool history
Great tour, good story! Worth seeing!
The Mackay mansion is a wonderful location with its of history. The tour Guide Dawn is awesome and full of knowledge. There is allot of paranormal stuff happening there as well , for the paranormal enthusiasts. A must experience if you are up in Virginia city
Very interesting
Fantastic tour of the Mansion! Very detailed information. Was impressed with the fact that they let you wander around on your own and take pictures. Did not capture any ggggghosts on film.
Fun time
Loved learning about the history of Virginia City and the area. Great mansion friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff person.
I married the woman of my dreams here and the experience was everything we could have hoped for and more.
Went to S. Lake Tahoe to get away from busy Bay Area life and decided to cross over to Nevada to check out Virginia City. The visitors center had a list of various tours one could go on and we decided on the Mackey Mansion - history, mines, ghost stories - sounded fun! We arrive and the tour guide is finishing up a tour with another couple. She was a wonderfully friendly and funny lady and made the brief history lesson and initial tour a great experience. Loved all of the history in this place, including all of the original furnishings. After touring the main floor, which included the office and parlor. The tour guide then told us the ghost stories before letting is wander the rest of the building. Upstairs to the bedrooms and down stairs to the dining room where apparently Edison, Bell, and Twain had joined their hosts for dinner. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who appreciates history, antiques, ghost stories, or any combo of the three.
Katie was my tour guide and had ample amount of knowledge on all things Virginia City!
Very interesting museum, friendly staff, paranormally active and pretty much the whole town is 'ghost hunting friendly'.
Nice location to visit if you're into the "ole west." Many relics to see and enjoy. Day trip only.
Great tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Very informative docent who knew her history. Steep staircase, loved the plumbing in the bathroom.
It's an older building that is said to be haunted. I did not have any such experience so I plan to return in hopes of such an encounter.
Very interesting history, great place to visit!
This Mansion has it all! Ghosts, great staff, beautiful decor, rare and amazing items in the building, and a beautiful venue for a wedding and or event. The tour guide Betty is quite a great woman who guides the tours with both information and humor in an amazing way. The mackay is a wonderful spot to stop and enjoy the history, the view, and the people. Definitely will be visiting again.
Our tour guide Justin was well versed and full of historical facts about the mansion and The Mc Kay family. I highly recommend this tour if you have about an hour to learn some history about Virginia City. You could spend a whole day in the area and shop around if you have time as well.
The perfect place for a wedding!!
Nice
Went to haunted house event was lots of fun. Would love to also go for a day time tour of the mansion sometime.
Great old original haunted Mansion! Tours happen there. Think it's about $8-10 , not too pricey and worth the price of admission! Many ghost adventurers have been.. Don't go alone! A must see in Virginia City!
Love the place so much history I love the experience did see any ghost but I'm very sure there's something because i got a really bad headache as soon I enter the place, and the lady who gives us the tour was very friendly, and just feel that I need more time to explore the Mansion but it was a lot of people going on the tours.
Dont go in there I'm telling you something went wrong inside that house many years ago. Something definitely is watching you. 6 people entered in the house all 6 felt weird before know anything about the damn ghost...... cool but no not for me....
History American history the West
The tour guide was amazing. The house was great to see. There are such beautiful pieces of original furniture. If you can make a donation to help preserve thus key piece of Virginia City history. We also learned they have a Go Fund me account going to preserve this beautiful property.
Wow, amazing. Guides are informative and friendly. Beautifully preserved.
Great tour today with Katie! She was extremely knowledgeable. My daughter and I enjoy the paranormal and have participated in many tours. This was the first time we had an experience. She actually heard a voice. Would love to do a night tour of this very haunted house.
This place is awesome I took a picture of the dining room it came out blurry but if you look closely you can see a lady over my shoulder and it was not my fiance because she was standing right next to me
Virginia City is amazing and everything there is full of history.
Wonderful place to have a wedding
Very awesome mansion, great and friendly tour guide. Had a great time!
Live it
Beautiful museum with great historical value
time stands still here! the tour Guide Dawn and her son are amazing. there isn't a question they can't answer!
This place was awesome!!! A must if you are in the area :)
Read the History on the mansion wall
A lot of history beautiful place and area )
Very cool
Went for a private paranormal investigation in December. The mansion is small with very steep steps and heating is not available but it's an older house and that's to be expected. The owner ensured that there was a nice fire going in the main office and that was a definite plus. The only reason that I didn't give five stars is because we were not allowed to investigate in the dinning room as we were told the area was off limits. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend. Very friendly staff.
Very fun and entertaining tour, then you get to view upstairs and grounds on your own.
I came here with my husband and it wasn’t until we came back from NV that he told me that something followed him into our car as we were driving away from Virginia city and he said that it was sitting in the backseat and he sensed that it was right next to him too now I didn’t believe it at all as I didn’t feel anything in that house no presence of any sort but then again I know some spirits will cling onto people who can sense fear maybe , but I know when he is telling the truth , and I was surprised that it took him long enough to tell him he said he didn’t want me to get scared or spooked since we were driving . I am giving this place a 5 star rating as the tour guide let us wonder alone upstairs and was very good at giving us information on the house . I wouldn’t mind going back again but my husband “NO “ Great area with great history . Would highly recommend if you’re not afraid of haunted houses or ghosts .
Awesome antiques and below average ghost stories.
Really loved investigating this location had an amazing time the care giver was an amazing lady I'm very glad to have met her can't wait to see her again
Fun haunted house
Awesome experience! The Mackey mansion was one of my favorite things to tour while visiting Nevada and I highly recommend going there to experience the history. Take lots of photos! I went in with full battery life until I was left alone in there and my battery was flashing red and about to die so I left the house and stepped outside and had a full charge! So I went back in to “debunk” and the life was sucked from my battery again until I left the house. Just that little experience alone was worth the trip
Really enjoyed the tour, the story and the artifacts. Our guide, Betty, had extra stories and plenty of answers. There are steep stairs in this building and, although they are equiped with sturdy handrails, the upper and lower floors may be a challenge for some.
Awesome place
Great guide with lots of history.
We got married here. Beautiful ceremony, they supplied all the tables, chairs and covers.
The tour is super cool! The guide was HILARIOUS!!!
The tour was short, but nice. Place is smaller than you'd expect, but it's still a great place to visit.
Was very cool seeing all the picture's and hearing about how it was built. The hostess was very nice and had tons of knowledge on the town.
Outstanding experience. Our tour guide Halen was absolutely informative and entertaining. Bring cash to leave him a tip as his knowledge of the history of the mansion is extensive. You can tell that he really has an interest in the history of the property.
Dawn was a very knowledgeable and nice host. I learned a lot of the history of this beautiful mansion. If you’re in Virginia City it is a must see!
Great house built by George Hearst, father of William Randolph Hearst in the 1860s. Dawn, our tour guide, was very informative and knowledgeable of the house and history of the area. The house is almost all original with furnishings of the Mackays in each room along with other period furnishings. For you ghost hunters, Dawn even had photos of some ghostly apparitions. You tour 3 stories of the home along with the 2.5 acres of gardens. Very nice.
Not worth the entrance feel. Nice historical place and neat old furnishings but that's it.
Loved this.. Hostess was great..
Great staff and a very fun experince.
This is a must stop by when visiting Virginia city.
IT'S SO HAUNTED
Great big beautiful house! Love it. No "ghosts" they hyped about. But they are friendly and it was a fun place to go.
Great historical location to visit! Docents are helpful and friendly. And it's haunted!
Very interesting place for the history. Staff very knowledgeable, helpful and extremely nice and fun.
The historical aspect of it makes it worth it. But be careful going down the stairs, they are steep. Makes me wonder how women didn't fall to their death with their heels, dresses n corsets on. If you like history I recommend it.
If you're really into ghost chasing this might be a place for you. I went with my Sister and her kids. The "mansion" is very small. There are lots of antiques and a hand full of photos of suppose to be ghosts that are "residents" Oh and a photo of Johnny Depp. He was an overnight guest there. It's not expensive, but I wasn't really impressed. Not to be mean... But I guess I expected a much larger home.... Cheers
If you're going to go to Virginia City, you must to go to the McKay Mansion. Cool tour with lots of fun facts.
Loved the tour here great people and lots of history
Having the family name Mackay (or depending on which family member one asked, McKay), visiting the Silver City, NV's MACKAY MANSION, was high on my " Bucket List ". March 31st, while driving my 'snowbird' mother from my Phoenix home to her winter home in Seattle, I was able check it off the list! Arriving late afternoon, we had hoped to make the last tour of the day, but found it locked up tight. I apologized to my ancestors for being so late, asking their forgiveness. Joking about the possibility of seeing ghost, we turned to leave, and were QUITE STARTLED to find a VERY PLEASANT & young woman standing right behind us. After we composed ourselves, quieting our nervous giggles, she assured us she was very much alive. We took her up on the offer of a private tour, though felt guilty, as she had just come 'home' after a long day at work. Being disabled and not able to continue upstairs, Mom asked to wait on the main floor, to which the young woman offered a chair. Assured she was comfortable, the tour continued up the stairs. Relaying my gratitude, but our need to be on our way, we decended the stairs. No sooner had we finished, 'rounding the corner downstairs, back into the main room, my now my quite confused mother, questioned: "Where would you make the tea?". Standing up, Mom continued: "I just don't remember seeing a kitchen", which increase my growing concern. Our polite guide, taken a back, replied: "I'm so sorry, would you like some tea?...I can run downstairs to make you some!" Pointing into the room we thru which we had origionally entered the mansion, Mom again spoke: "Oh NO dear, but THANK YOU so very much! As I had informed the woman in the other room, we really must be going, and you BOTH must be very hungery by now...didn't you say you had just come from work?" "Yes, but...I live downstairs alone...who ", she abruptly stopped, and looking at me, our guide gave a nervous laugh. My arm around my mother, and as I guided/helping her outside, once again I thanked our guide for her kindness. Sitting in our car, it took us a few minutes to buckle up, head out of town. It wasn't until we had reached Reno, that either Mom or spoke. I said that I couldn't wait to go back! Looking around, Mom nerviously asked: "Tonight?" :)
Visit this!
All original for the .ist part the hostess , ,she was awesome
Well worth stooping in on
The staff is very good but stuff there to see is OK
Incredible property with tons of history! Our awesome tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun to chat with. Highly recommend checking out the Mackay Mansion when in Virginia City. Remember to take lots of photos. You never know what might turn up...
Dawn was a wonderful guide!
Had a great tour guide Haylen. He really new the story. Just walked in for a tour no reservation no waiting.
Seen it in ghost adventures and had to see it for myself! Amazing little step back in time.
Such lovely views of Virginia City from the beautiful brick patio on the east side of this wonderfully landscaped location . I enjoyed seeing the old train pulling into the station that the patio sits above .
Amazing
The curator was very informative and so friendly. The home needs some repairs done, but the house and the stories are very interesting. Love its historical significance.
A fascinating tour of a beautiful historic mansion ! The guides are amazing.
Love it
Great tour and tour guide.
We were in Virginia City for the Hot August Nights weekend and stopped by the Mackay Mansion on a Sunday. Wow was Dawn awesome! She shared her own experiences with us and even showed us photos! She was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed her stories. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling through Virginia City! Oh and don't forget your Bloody Mary's!
What a great visit we had at the mansion. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. She really enjoyed her work and we enjoyed our visit and learning about the history of the house. The town of Virginia City is a really interesting town to visit.
The Rich History surrounding Virginia City is awe inspiring. The Mackay Mansion is by far the most beautiful location in the entire city! Do yourself a favor and take the guided tour!
It was worth seeing.
Owner is a good man , prides himself on quality has a collection of handmade rugs , a must see , great wedding venue
Admittedly I've only visited once this year on Halloween for the haunted house. I'm sure a regular tour during a different time would have been better. The haunted house was an absolute joke. Worst I've been to. Sent in about 10 people in together per guided group. Literally just had us walk up some stairs then walk down a short hall, turn around to go back downstairs and exit. Narrow hallway so the front of the line was snaking past the end of the line as they exited. Maybe lasted 5 minutes in total which most of that time was climbing some really steep stairs. They should really just forget the haunted house and just do something like ghost stories in the garden.
Had a great time! Tour guide was awesome and passionate about mansion...
Great tour.... Must place to visit when visiting Virginia City....
Very well maintained. Staff very knowledgeable with history of the town.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! It's like stepping back in time!! The tour guides are super!

This is a great place. If you like spooky you will love the Mackay Mansion
It made me truly believe there is life after death
The information that is given is interesting, but the tour is kind of short.
Fantastic.
Mackey is one of my favorite haunts! Love to go there as often as possible!
Our tour guide was amazing and very informative! We had such a great time! We can't wait to come back. So beautiful and historic!
Really cool historical mansion, excellent tour guide aswell. We got to learn about the various men who had been in the mansion, from Uylessus S. Grant to Johnny Depp, cool stories about would-be robbers getting shot by guards, and an interesting ghost story and history of related deaths, real fun spot.
Erica, the tour guide, was so lovely and friendly. She was very knowledgeable and if you like supernatural stories she can share with you the hauntings that happen in town. The home is very beautiful it was all around a great experience! 10/10 recommend if you're in Virginia City!
Interesting history of Virginia City.
Absolutely amazing, great history, great guides. All around 10/10. Stairs are a little spooking to use but that's part of the fun! And the drive up the mountain to get to Virginia city was breath taking.
Very interesting and the guide Dawn was very helpful.
The Mackay Mansion is a great place to go back in time and revisit Virginia City's past glory. With the visit there is a hospitality which is brought to a personal level of service bridging ones experience between two centuries- all in a days time. This transcends most Nevada visitor experiences where Mackay's true story may be heard and realized while visiting the mansion. A silver legacy brought to one through table side service, as though Tiffany was a guest studying the manners to design his next silver tea- spoons and service.
Had a blast.. Very cool place to visit.. Even caught a picture of a ghost
Full of history wonderful place to visit.
The jewel of the Comstock
The tour was awesome
Great history of this awesome mansion! Tour guide was very sweet, knowledgeable and patient and interactive with my children.

Extremely friendly people. I look forward to seeing them every time I go visit. Beautiful mansion and eerie vibes to go with the visit
Did a great tour of the property in July 2010. Also got a great picture of a ghost on the front porch in the evening while walking by.
Is nice is very intense this is what I saw in the mirror after the picture was taken see closer and there is a face like a shadow inside the mirror.

Very interesting and some really cool history to this place a must see!
Dawn was such a joy and was a wealth of knowledge of Virginia City and the Mackay Mansion. She took extra time and patiently answered all of our questions. *I actually capture an image of the little girl, that roams the mansion, when I took a picture of Mrs. Mackays bedroom.
Ive been here several times and the tours are very informative on the history and if you want it, they can share paranormal experiences too. Very neat mansion with fascinating historical connections and has great display of original and time period furniture and artifacts. Very affordable and fun activity for the whole family!
Show a lot of the old West
