So much to look at and the owners are wonderful. My boys loved the fact you can actually get inside the tank!

This place is very very cool just to give you an idea of how cool this place is I am more than willing to give it 5 stars and I went on a day it was closed. We were driving through Hawthorne headed to Vegas from Reno on a Sunday afternoon when we stop by the Ordnance Museum although it was closed there are many items out side that you can check out even when it's closed one of the coolest items is a tank that you can climb up on. I can only imagine how awesome this place would be if you can actually go inside.
Nice

A must see if you have time. Very educational on many military aspects. Easy access and free but donations are appreciated. Don't forget to sign the guest book and pin your hometown on the map if no one else has.
Every time We go visit my grandparents in Hawthorne, we have to visit the museum. Its full of old ammunition, and historic military stuff. Stop by. You'll love it
Nice collection of ordinance and munitions. Wish I had more time to browse.
Great place to see.
What a surprise! Admission is free and a great place for the kids to stretch the legs! The collection is quite impressive including all types of ammunition, missiles, bombs torpedoes and mines ranging from pre WWI to the Cold War. It's a very hands on place and my kids loved it. They range in age from toddler to 10. The staff are all volunteers and were very friendly. Kids loved the tank outside too.
Great it opened up my eyes
This place is awesome and the sile reason I visit Hawthorne. Other than the great ride to and from. Do not leave town until you have been here. Best museum,...and it's free!!!! Just leave a donation.

A must stop and visit place!!!
A must see, lots of history.
Great place to read and see the history of this area. Excellent collection of ordinances.
Incredibly well done museum and the staff was great! Do not drive through Hawthorne without stopping here.
Amazing out-of-nowhere museum!
Neat military history.
We thought we had taken a wrong turn on HWY 95 passing through Hawthorne, NV, but it must have happened for reason. The Hawthorne Ordnance Museum was one of the best unplanned stops on our spring break road trip. The exhibits on the outside of the museum (The M47 Patton tank is a great way to attract people!) were cool enough but inside of the museum was an amazing display of militaria from WWI through Viet Nam and more. An I mpressive museum by any standard! The variety of items on display was staggering and I saw items I had never seen before. The volunteers at the museum were also a huge part of what makes this place special and worth checking out. They shared their knowledge of the museum's exhibits, war history, their own experience as veterans, the local history of Hawthorne and the role that the Hawthorne Ammunition Depot played in WWII and our nation's history. Mr. Hughes and Mr. Kovacs; thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and perspective with our family; and thank you very much for your service to our country! I highly recommend that you take the time to check out the Hawthorne Ordnance Museum. You won't be disappointed.
All the info you need
Much more here that you would think.... wonderful place....
Very cool place. A piece of American history. The lady who was volunteering at the museum was awesome, said she lived in the town her whole life. Worth a look if you are passing three town.
Just great! Gotta visit.
Great place. Took tons of pictures. Climbed inside a tank.
Great place, alot of stuff to look at and the lady that works there is terrific with information
Great place. The staff consisted of two elderly military veterns who knew what they were showing us the day my family visited. They were very funny too. As for the exhibit, you're allowed to get up close to all the artifacts and even climb inside a tank. The museum also has a gift shop with some interesting, real military hardware. Anyone can have fun here, even if you aren't into military stuff or museums.
Great place to see things you will only see on tv. Hands on real learning!!
Great place with tons of exhibits and history. Very knowledgeable staff. Admission is by donation.
So much fun, great exhibits, friendly volunteers.
Most awesome Military Museum I've ever been to. They have a tank you can climb into that have guns you can handle it's Hands-On it's awesome. And they sell ammo cans to raise funds for the museum.
Very interesting museum. The staff are very knowledgeable. It's really cool to see and touch all the weaponry you see on movies and TV. Bring the kids. Very few adults can slip inside the tank!
Such an amazing collection of weapon history..
Amazing collection of shells, mines and missles!
So many things to look at and see what all of the ordnance was used in all of the services of this great country. The best place to stop a must see.
A very extensive museum collection with many interesting and unique items from marine warfare. The veteran volunteers always have interesting stories to share too.
This museum is an amazing piece of history. Everyone should visit this place.
Keep our 2nd amendment alive. Go see what our government displays on this towns main street. Bombs, tanks, etc.
Great place with great volunteers
Awsome place for people interested in what our nations weapons looked like

Great history
Friendly staff! Great museum! Lots of inventory! I went with a few other buddies and it was a great stop, loved chatting with the staff and seeing all the historic things there.
Recomiendo visitar este lugar, es un excelente lugar para visitar, te sorprenderas enormemente de lo que ahí miraras.
A must see. The museum is very hands with so many things to see. You are able to handle guns and climb inside a tank. The museum has great displays and a lot of local items from the once booming military town. Locals that are docents were a pleasure to talk to and gave us a lot of history about the ammunition plant during WWII.
Excellent place to visit, alot to see and the volunteers who works there A+ very helpful, my kids loved it they had fun and they learned quite a bit
Amazing place, very knowledgeable staff.
Visited this museum about 4 years ago randomly while taking the same route to inlaws. Had been wanting to return to it ever since! Got a chance this month on same journey as before. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! Not only do they have old news papaer clippings, bomb replicas, gun and projectile replicas, they have about 10 different ww2 infantry weapons (correct weight) you can pick up and shoot some photos of your family holding them. They have some items for sale, the highlight for our family this time was playing around and inside the tank they have in their yard. We were taking some pics with the tank when one of the volunteers saw us and came out and unlocked it for us! Kids were over the moon excited! Great place to stop on that long and dusty road.
We stopped by here to stretch our legs on a long trip. Never heard of it and the museum wasn’t on our radar. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of our trip. The history and the equipment are well displayed. The docents were my favorite part though. Hanging out with the vets that staff this place was by far the best part. My only disappointment was that we couldn’t stay longer.
Absolutely wonderful museum! Probably the most friendly and Kind group of volunteers we have ever met. Thank you Wanda for showing my boys this historically rich treasure!
Awesome!
Really neat place to visit.
Wonderful place!! Absolute hole in the wall, and definitely off the beaten path. Lots of old demilled and inert ordnance outside, even more amazing stuff inside. Well worth the stop! Jewel of Hawthorne.
This place was awesome so much stuff it would take days to see it all!!!
Very well run, unique museum of ordnance, unique for a small rural Nevada town
Real nice and clean displays of the local history of ordnance repair disassemble and storage of bombs and things that go boom. Saw many things I had no clue the government did. And see the first drone used by the military. A 16” barrel section and rounds that they used. Nice gift shop for related items and gifts.
It is a small town museum with a lot of heart. There are artifacts of living pre_electricity, mining, military, and zoological. I particularly liked the old safes and the strong box. There are some very nice old machinery. my husband liked the football size piece of silver ore.
Very interesting!
Great items and knowledge staff. Worth your time! Spoiler alert ===early remote control helicopter technology. ......very interesting to see the story of remote control design. Check the gift shop top
They are the largest for sure. GREAT.
Really cool stuff to check out.. and a TANK!!!
Take the less traveled path and visit this museum, buy a t-shirt and enjoy the stories of the military and Hawthorne. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Great place to see Hawthorne's history as well as our Armed Forces. Highly recommend you drop in if you're in the area. Time well spent.
Historical firearms you can hold and a tank you can go in, and it's all free. Awesome place.
The Hawthorne Ordanace Museum is awesome and its all free. So much to see. A tank for you to see and yes its hatch is open and you can enter it. Missiles and machine guns of different calibers. A small piece of field artillery. After inspecting all the ordanance outside go into the large building for more great things to see. When I was there two ladies, both volunteers, are a wealth of information. If you are in the Hawthorne Nevada area stop at this great Museum for a day of enjoyment.
Great museum! Who would have thought a NAVAL MUSEUM in the desert!
One of a kind. A great place to visit. Lots of history. Patriotic and informative.
Lots of good military history.

Museum of ammunition was excellent. Mussels, military rifles, machine guns, military drones, etc. The staff was readily available to explain any area of interest. Much was new info. It's a "dont miss";on your trip
Americana at its finest
They not only had many displays of the various ordnance ranging from small caliber bullets to submarine torpedoes. From before WWII to present a tank, jeep, and an unmanned drone from the Vietnam era. The museum is free but have a box for donations.
Very interesting place. Stop by and check it out.
For such a small museum it has so much stuff and the staff is very knowledgeable. Lots to learn about munitions and missiles and lots of other neat military things.
What a random, interesting place! Highly recommend checking this spot out. It's fascinating and teaches you a lot. I just wished we asked the crew of men working there more about their involvement in the military.
Awesomeness
The Hawthorne Ordnanceuseum is a fantastic collection of U S military ordnance. All free and right by the street. You see all this great stuff in plain view including a tank that you can climb up on for great views inside. A large museum building houses so much you just have to see it. Free street parking. A must see if you are near Hawthorne Nevada.
Awesomeness is the best way to describe this place. Recommend to any one.
Second time I've been here!!
Very interesting. Kids thoroughly enjoyed the tank! Informative.
What a neat place full of old military memorabilia. There was even a tank you can get up close to examine. This place is just across the street from McDonald's in Hawthorne.
If you ever find yourself passing through Hawthorne you should definitely check this place out! The older gentleman that were here we're friendly to talk to and very knowledgeable about the artillery and was able to tell us some pretty neat information!
Extensive selection of military memorabilia
Excellent review of local military history.
Wartime history dating back to World War I, all preserved for audiences to look at and touch, and it's all for free!
Really neat place!!!! A must to stop and check out!
This place is awesome, free, and cheap gifts. Plus they let you touch the stuff!
