Was a cool experience and also an employee got a fact wrong I’m trying to see if the employee was right here’s the fact: roundhouses are the only places that hold locomotives. I thought but sheds are in the UK and roundhouses are US. So why that answer?
Really enjoy how careful they have been to reconstruct the past. Their living history volunteers are helpful and very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the Memorial Day reenactment. It's worth the time to see the entire museum.
Had a wonderful time. Visiting the special little town brings back memories.. people are nice and the weather was perfect.. Enjoyed the pictures Todd painted. Oh, great ice cream too.
Enjoyed spending time with family
Awesome reenactment of Nebraska statehood. A very relaxing day. Great staff, so really want to share the way things were done. I didn't know that electricity, and telephones had come to Grand Island so early on.
Can't miss this if you are in the area.
It was fantastic.
We got lucky to find this museum on the weekend of the eclipse and can't express our gratitude to the park staff enough for opening their doors. What a treat! This museum is a real gem hidden in the middle of nowhere. Staff is dressed in period costume and is very knowledgeable about the time. The buildings are lovingly cared for. We recommend taking a picnic with you to enjoy somewhere in the beautiful grounds, then stopping by the general store for some old timey sweets for dessert. All of our elementary aged children loved this and the whole family learned together.
The museum had a wide range of exhibits from saddles to toasters to art. A nice slice of Nebraska life over the last 200 years.
Beautiful!!
Very fun place and educational. Staff was great and fun to interact with.
Amazing to experience life in 1896.
Fantastic living history museum. They in the top 10 best living history museums in the nation. A must see when you are in the area.
Wonderful tour guides. Very engaging for school students of all ages.
Great event next fir and sat eve and Sunday afternoon. Come see us and find your Christmas spirit. Bring food to donate for the local food pantry.
Loved seeing the different museums in this area.
Lots of really authentic history. Main build cool. Big place.
Fantastic museum. Not to be missed.
I didn't think much was to see. Not a fan of museums.
Amazing place to learn about the history of the Sandhills, pioneers, early settlers on that area of the Platte valley. Farming and life in the late 1800s.. lots of hands on exibits and the railroad town is a step back in time. Great ice cream!
A beautiful place to spend the day. It was so much fun, and the price for.both entry and product was fair. Bring your walking shoes and appetite. The little store offers ice cream, sandwiches and beverages. It's.like you are having lunch in the 1800's. We were able to bring our dog....just keep them on a leash and bring poop bags to clean up after them. Those folks who were dressed in time wardrobe, did a great job with history and questions. An all around fun day. You wind be disappointed. Enjoy.
So beautiful. Loved seeing a family celebrate their heritage.
Great place , learn how life was in 1860's Nebraska . Would suggest and do to anyone coming through Grand Island.
This place has some great history to learn from. I haven't been back to this place in 5 years.
They have so much to see
Best museum in Grand Island Nebraska
Great place to learn about history. Hands on demo during summer and special occasions. Well worth the admission price. Railroad Town in the summer is a must see!!
They had a great car show.
Good place to go
We had an event in the main building. It was a beautiful setting with the Stuhr staff being very helpful and accommodating. We had a wonderful time without any worries to speak of.
Very detailed history of area and very nicely presented. I learned things about Nebraska I never knew. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone.
Was awesome.... nobody but us and the staff
Very interesting enjoyed watching the blacksmith
We went for Christmas past and had a nice time!
Great history review with interactions with the authentic town folks.
Truly the gem of the prairie. You could visit a hundred times and still learn something new each visit. The summer classes for children are unmatched and give a great sense of pride and appreciation for the past. Their special events are wonderful-- from Vintage Game Night to their historical Christmas Past tour, it's an amazing place to learn and "feel" the history of our area. No matter the season, Stuhr Museum has something unique and wonderful to offer.
Very nice exhibits and the characters were very authentic in both their look and knowledge. Excellent for the family.
Love this place. It's so expansive, there's always something new to see. The workers are kind and informative. I have very young kids, and they like our visits here.
Some exhibits weren't open. Maybe it's too early in the season, or maybe because it's Sunday. Would like longer hours on Sundays. Would really like to see the rusty train cars in Railroad Town restored. Otherwise, I enjoyed it a lot.
My large family, including a 1 year old and a 6 year old, spent 7 hours at the museum. There was not a moment where the kids weren't laughing and having an amazing time. If that doesn't tell you how wonderful this place is, nothing will
Went for the Christmas tree display. I have COPD they went out of their way to accommodate me.
So much to learn! I went early on a summer day and I'm glad I did as it gets very hot here in the summer and there is a lot of walking to do at this museum. You'll want to chat with each of the craftsmen to get the fullest experience. The Silver Dollar Cafe has the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever eaten. Didn't expect that from a museum!
Love the Railroad Town! The exhibits in the main building area great too
Stop here if you have the chance. There is a lot to be learned.
Cool museum Restored railroad town really neat to go through Almost always something going on for children you can trick or treat the old town on Halloween they staff the buildings and homes ghosts wandering the streets no electric light spooky and cool same thing at Christmas except storytelling by candlelight
Always an amazing place for history. Volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable.
It's a captivating Museum all the experiences of a pioneer life is exhibited at this Museum
Great place to learn about history and great for a nice stroll
The people directing traffic for the eclipse are THE BIGGEST MOST INCOMPETENT MORONS EVER TO WALK PLANET EARTH. FOR GODS SAKE, TRAIN PEOPLE TO DO WHAT YOU ARE ASKING THEM TO DO. The museum was nice though.
One of a kind and well put together. Great for kids and adults.
Large, authentic museum of the prairie pioneer that ranks among the best I've seen around the world.
We'll done museum. Best to visit during the summer when more of the buildings are open.
Nice museum. Lots to do.
Love this place. Very educational and fun
What a great place to visit. We went at the hottest time of the year n it was still worth the trip. Local residents man the shops n u learn how things were done back when
Had an exchange student from Norway and she found it very interesting.
Huge property, very interesting. Well maintained and layed out. Definitely check it out if in the area.
Beautiful building and grounds. Exhibits well thought out. Friendly staff. Very enjoyable experience. Glad we stopped.
Really cool and engaging with townspeople "living" in the old historic town as their characters would have.
It's a neat Museum and I love the idea that my pass also works over in Hastings
Great Prairie Museum and Pioneer village. Hosted the Aug 21 2017 Eclipse and did an outstanding job. Very positive asset for Grand Island. I recommend this location.
Always a fabulous museum to visit!!
I visited in the off-season and was still super impressed with the museum. There is a lot of Nebraska history being preserved and shared in an engaging way. I can't wait to get the full experience when the village comes to life again next summer.
One word to describe this: AWSOME
Such a fun interactive environment to learn about our country's history! The whole family had a great time (from the grandparents to the kids). There's something here for everyone to enjoy!
Lots of fun and educational
Well worth the admission fee!
Visited in the summer when the Railroad Town was open, and that offered tons to see including plenty of areas for active kids to play. The grounds are large so be prepared to walk. The main building, while lovely, didn't have a ton that captured my interest, but it was still a treasure trove of pioneer history.
This is an absolutely wonderful place! The Railroad Town is so authentic, and family friendly. So much history, so much beauty. Spend an entire day there!
We had a great experience here seeing all the well kept up old building's and machines. We will never forget watching the eclipse here either.
This was an amazing museum experience! This is something you could spend all day at! Very interested, and there is so much to look at and read about.
Wow, an amazing Country museum cmplex. Many areas to explore both inside and outside. Friendly staff. Always willing to help with questions or suggestions. Large collection of antique tractors and cars. Railroad Town to explore, as well as other out buildings. You can easily spend an entire day here.
Friendly staff and guides. Nice little road trip pit stop. Many exhibits spread on large area. Only stopped for a small amount of time but it was nice to get a glimpse of life back then. Great jewelry and trinkets in main building gift shop.
Always a great stop.
Good prarie museum. Lots of living history. Great adventure for a young family.
If you want to see how the frontier people made it that's the place to go see
We enjoy stopping by the Stuhr Museum when we're in town. Lots of Nebraska history. The new exhibit, Pioneer Medicine is very interesting for the entire family. Makes a modern day trip to the dentist seem like a trip to Disneyland.
Great place to learn about Midwestern history. Love the holiday events.
Great place to take kids of all ages.
Great history and wonderfull for family's to tour.
Wonderful, beautiful, informative facility.
In all this is a nice place would come back. Very nice building
Awesome place to see the old thing and specially a small lake with lot of duck. Lovely place
Beautiful place. A real preserved prarie town.
I was a bit disappointed to find out after we paid that all of the buildings were still locked up for the season. Definitely a beautiful place to visit.
Great experience with our beloved cousins
Visited on a road trip from Cali to IL and spent the day touring the museum. It was beautiful and we'll kept. For the traveler who enjoys history definitely worth checking out.
This place is crazy. I went as a homeschool group and we got to pretend we were in the civil war and learned how to properly hold a musket and March etc. We also got to be pioneers and cook really good food from scratch scratch. It was an awesome time.
This was the perfect place to watch the eclipse. There was enough around to keep my kiddo entertained, as well as wide expanses to watch the eclipse.
Beautiful grounds and some great history lessons
Went here to watch the eclipse. Really beautiful location with a lot of cool exhibits. We had a really good view of the eclipse and it was neat watching NASA release weather balloons, but it took forever to get out afterwards and they didn't make anywhere near enough T-shirts.
Beautiful, awesome, brilliant!
Was very nice to wonder around the railroad town...people were dressed in costume. They went all out for the eclipse.
A good way to learn about our history.
This is a quiet little historical museum. You can walk through railroad ties and even see things like a real blacksmith at work!
Wonderful place
I had a fantastic time watching the eclipse from the museum and the food was great!
A really good place to visit. You will learn alot there to. Everything is well laid out to look at.
Great living history town and museum. Friendly people with lots of stories to tell.
My favorite museum! Lots to do and see, especially on holidays. Don't forget to visit Railroad Town, the farm machinery building, and the Fonner Rotunda!
Our children love coming here throughout the summer! Lots to see and do!
An excellent museum and worth visiting more than once. So much to see and do. Period costumes. 100+ year old cars, tractors, and farm implements. Beautiful grounds. Places to feed koi fish, or ducks, or chickens. Indian village and an old West town.
Great history and staff that love their jobs
It's got some exibits you can't see anywhere else.
Pretty museum with a huge variety of memorabilia. Mel, guide in the antique auro and farm machinery, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly! Really enjoyed him. Must try the frozen pickle juice at the general store. Very refreshing and unique.
Great hosts for the solar eclipse event. Grand Island and Hall County should be proud of this amazing museum. Job well done to all the staff and volunteers.
Lots of cool events and things to see here.
I grew up driving by the Stuhr Museum but never made it there until today. It was cheaper than I anticipated and was well worth the money! I was also surprised at how much they have there. I definitely recommend stopping by. Give yourself at least 3 hours.
Great place to hang out!
Best museum I've been to
In this museum you will know everything from Nebraska history from 1830 to 1930. Wonderful old town that will take you to the old times. You should come and visited. Not expensive. A big plus for artist also.
We went here for the eclipse. It was nice of the Stuhr to open to the public but they should have had more port a pots for that many people.
The museum was everything that the brochure said it was. The old time Town had citizens dressed in Period dress and they knew their history and all the tasks that they were to perform according to the building that they hosted. One lady makes her own hats and it was so incredible to watch her do this. The blacksmith was a lot of fun and the tin maker will make you a cookie cutter if you just tell him what you want. We very much enjoyed our visit.
Loved this spacious land with all the older homes and stores.people dress in period costumes and very nice.spend the day.
Amazing place. My children and I never got bored
We were there on a Sunday. The town had buildings open but the out houses and barns were locked up. Was very hot day but the restrooms were cleaned and air conditioned.
It's has been years since I have visited the muesem. My mother, 13yr old daughter and I decided to take a trip down memory lane at stuhr muesem. We had a wonderful time. Weather was beautiful, food was good and all sites were educational. But my mother and I did notice....its not quite like it use to be. We sure miss the stream train rides, the dozen roaming buffalos, and more native sites...teepees and artifacts. Not alot of visitor activities like before. All staff members but 1 were so generous and polite. Just hope no one runs into mister rude. Claims it is his property. Very rude man. Overall was good visit.
Good place to take kids too see what real life was like
Great place with a great amount of knowledge to be gained. Cool way to have fun and learn a lot at the same time!
There is something for every age here.
Love this place because of the amount of effort into creating characters to connect us with the past. The blacksmith for example new his trade in great detail and answered every question we had with great enthusiasm. For the kids to walk into a pioneer home and see the women dressed as they were in the past helps them to understand how life was. Great place to learn and to connect with the past.
This museum is terrific for anyone, but especially children . It is a great way to give them a real historical experience of life in the olden days. It is very well kept up and beautifully maintained. I highly recommend it for travelers as well as the general public to experience over and over again.
Fantastic living history museum. Go in the summer when Railroad Town is open to the public, for a great look into daily life of the 1890's.
Had a great guide and the living history in railroad town was great.
Great display of native American Indian artifacts. Some back to BC. Railroad town fun for the kids and adults.
Fun place for the family. I went on my own had a great time with self tour and reasonably priced. Go and enjoy you will not be disappointed
We planned to spend an hour and stayed for 5. You can drive around to each of the exhibits and park very close. Important in the heat. There is a lot to see.
Wow... Like stepping into the past.
It is really fun place to go and a lot of historical things
Those who complained about nothing to see here must have come during winter hours. The website clearly explains that winter hours mean most everything is closed up for winter. Thankfully the property and the visitor center were still open and everything is on a drivable loop so we were able to get around in our truck. This place was amazing, even for a quick trip...which was in winter, and with construction on one of the main buildings. We plan on coming back when the normal season underway and everything is open.
The main building was super clean and it was very easy to see all of the exhibits. Each exhibit had a short and easy to read description. Railroad town was our favorite though. The blacksmith served in the military, as do my husband and I, and he told us the tale of the horseshoe and the reason why it's lucky, then he made two and gave them to us. The whole place is beautiful and educational, and the staff is very sweet.
Missed living history presentation. Great exhibits.
The Nebraska paintings by Todd Williams were amazing! They are on display until Sunday.
Great place to learn some of the history of Nebraska. The people who work there are very friendly, and know their history. They play their roles very well.
One of the best museums.
Every Nebraska student gets carted off here via bus to learn about "the great American planes". I guess im glad I wasn't around during that time. It's just out of this world to think that in such a small fragment of history, we've advanced from a Cast iron stove warming the house to a Condensing Furnace.
Beautiful place to visit. Staff very helpful.
Great place to take the kids for a day or even just for you
Excellent presentation of local pioneer history.
Always a 5 star experience when we go. Great museum and railroad town!
Wonderful place to visit. Lots of history.
Wonderful! Blast into the past. Fun way to learn about history. Beautiful museum.
Thought it was a great experience.
Wonderful place to spend the day learning about history.
Amazing place to browse and learn what the history we have around here was all about.
Stuhr family home and local buildings preserved.
Really great place, unlike other museums there are very few 'do not touch' signs and almost no ropes keeping you away from an exhibit. Reasonably priced for the experience.
One of the coolest live museums ever. If you have the chance , plan a whole afternoon to check everything out. The new visitors building is beautiful as well.
Super unique place to visit for the whole family. Very friendly and helpful staff. Summer is the time to visit. All the old stores and people are in 1890s attire.
Railroad town is awesome in the summer. The "citizens" are great to interact with
Great place. Enjoyed our visit.
Lots to see and docents in all of the buildings to answer your questions
Amazing staff very friendly and dedicated . Almost no roped off areas. A must see if youre a history buff
Wonderful art exhibit "Wings Over the Platte". We enjoyed the beautiful space & art show, top notch!
Fun place to visit. Plenty to see. And you can feed some ducks!
Railroad town is a must see for anyone interested in history
I don't think you need to worry about anyone shooting pictures in your houses. There is nothing there worth shooting! I have always looked forward to seeing your museum since I was a child, and was so very disappointed! I've seen so many other places that are much better. The best thing my husband and I enjoyed was lunch at Applebees which someone else at the museum recommended.
