Still portraying my mother's pics of Chimney Rock!!! Pretty awesome of them to keep them on display this long!!!
Enjoyed both the Nebraska Women's Suffrage Exhibit and the Solomon Butcher Photograph Exhibit.
Good thing it was free because there was not much to see.
Really cool museum that celebrates the state. The current display has 150 items from Nebraska's history with stories about their significance. I wish I could have stayed longer. Admission is free.
Nice local museum with an eclectic mix of historical artifacts from the area
Free admission always! So interesting!
Loved this, great car exb.
Small but interesting museum with a surprising number and variety of exhibits.
Wish I'd been able to stay all day.
Very well kept building and exhibits. Admission is free.
(Translated by Google) Day of the dead was great there do it again. (Original) Día de los muertos was great there do it again.
Free entry. Nice quilts.
Nice place but the layout is very "blah", needs a little more pizzazz
Pretty neat for a rather small museum. You can spend some quality time there. worth a visit.
It was awesome! Museum was great :3
The redesign is awesome. Definitely check it out. Best of all it's free. Even better, donate so they can get more of the exhibits back up. Keep an eye out for fun after hours events and First Friday shows as well.
Sweet spot. We were short on time so we went fast but highly recommend taking your time! Awesome displays that I will stop in again for at some point!
A great way to spend Saturday morning with a group of teenagers. Visiting the Nebraska History Museum is a wonderful way to engage young learners in historical events of the mid-west.
Modern and informative.
Sucks
What an incredible display of the Suffrage movement in Nebraska. It is a must-see.
Woah, there’s so much to learn from this museum. Short, detailed descriptions beside every exhibit are insightful.
Dissapointed compared to the exhibits at the previous location.
Great experience! New quilt exhibit is outstanding. A new exhibit featuring The History of Stock Cars in Nebraska will be opening on August 25!
Fabulous Nebraska history.
Fascinating look at Nebraska history, including race cars, Native Americans and mud houses, among other things. An intriguing look into the past!
Fantastic place
I was only here for about an hour with my daughter's 4th grade class field trip so I only got to see a very small section of the museum. But what I did get to see I found very interesting. I want to go back for another visit when I have much more time to explore the entire museum.
I found it so interesting n i visited it in 2016
I didn't have high expectations when I walked in, but I was pleasantly surprised by how many things there were throughout Nebraska history that made a large impact on the nation/world
But prices are to high for poor children
Great museum! Friendly and helpful staff. Interesting, informative, and interactive.
Awesome place to learn about history for free
As a person who used to go there once a month, I was excited when I heard they were renovating it. I had high expectations as to were the museum at the time had set some high standards. It took what I believe a year or two till last year when they finally opened it. I went to the opening night as I loved the old place and was excited to see the new and better updates. But the happiness I felt when I entered was replaced with disappointment by the time I left. To fully capture the reason for my disappointment I will discribe the original layout of the museum. When you entered the museum you would be greeted by a room full of artifacts, including a stair case that lead to the next level. On the second level I believe (I don't rember exactly what level it was on) was the world war one and two exibits, which was my favorite part. The third level (and also on level two as both had a section like this) they just had a room full of just so many artifacts, mostly from early Nebraska times, which was also amazing as there was so much to see! Along with all of the artifacts there were three or more rooms that are like model houses, stores, and Indian huts (I don't know the correct term) that we're really fun to look at, especially when I was a kid. Overall I loved that place, it was a good part of my childhood. Now I will compare the new one to the old one. First of all, the whole bottom floor is 75% pictures of the great depression, which is also what this place brought me. The other quarter is a rotating exibits that started as quilts and I believe now is masks. The whole bottom floor was a big disappointment and here is why- there was nothing there. The 75% of that floor was probably the worst as to the factor that it was pictures. I did not come to this museum to see stuff I could have on my phone in the swift move of a Google search. I came to see stuff you can't see anywhere else in it's 3d demention. Now on the second floor I will say it is not as bad as the bottom floor but at the same time I was not proud to say it was my states museum. The second floor on opening night had originally had a quarter of the large, open room there where a line of small MODERN photos taken by native Americans. Alas yes modern stuff is historical- I didn't want to go to an art museum, I came to see history. They have tooken down the pictures up stairs but as shown above there where still nearly 50 pictures down stairs. For the artifacts that are shown I will have to give you back round on this muesem. All of you saying this muesem is small and has little artifacts, well they have more then 400 artifacts in storage, which many of the workers there have said to us that they need the space. Now let me quote back to the half a page review I left in the suggestion book- "Why don't you just cram it in there?" Like really they are acting like they are some art museum with this layout but really it was actually enjoyable when there was stuff to look at. I loved having it crammed in their! To bring this to a full circle the new updates to the museum have ultimately made it boring and unexcitable, unlike how it was originally. Where it kept me coming back now it keeps me away. To end this let me say- change it back. ~Ava, 13
Cool place
Beautiful things to go learn about
Fun place, great exhibits and store.
Full of recent updates, this is a wonderful way to explore the history of Nebraska. A great all-weather, all-seasons option. Gift shop has unique items from Nebraska vendors and books from or about historic places, people, and topics related to the state which are NOT just about football. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Go!!
Great museum and staff is so friendly, been there few times and I love it, it also has many things about various cultures
Free and fun for the family
Looking forward to the Nebraska Auto Racing exhibit
You can pick up a phone and hear direct information on museumed pieces. Really fun and relaxing.
Wow. What a great makeover. I love what you've done with the place!
Very well done
Lots of cool historical displays. Very interested.
Beautiful quilts, interesting objects from Nebraska's history and a beautifully creepy mask collection, all for free!
Great place to get a brief history of Nebraska and America within a few hours. We visited here in the first few days we arrived Lincoln and the knowledge we got from the museum was helpful for newcommers like us. I think it is a good place to take your kids to too.
Several interesting displays about Nebraska.
It was at ceremony of citizenship
Simple and accessible for a little time-killing walk-around
“Small but worth a visit.” We stopped here after visiting the capital and enjoyed a very good docent lead tour. This provided us with highlight of the states history in the limited time we had available. They are moving to larger quarters, which will allow more of the collections to be displayed. We recommend it even if you only have an hour or so.
There are always good exhibits and activities going on here.
Amazing history, teepee display, and a brand new building it's got everything
Jeff Korbelick talked about lost Lincoln restaurants. Room packed and quiet as a mouse.
A great place to go to explore Nebraskas past.
Free admission, good hours, interesting stuff. Much of the collection exhibit didn't have a theme, but were interesting items with historical context that had been donated to the museum.
Es un placer visitar un lugar así y poder disfrutar de la historia de Nebraska. Además gratuito
Very interesting history, lots of exhibits, a great layout. The map in the lobby was particularly interesting; I dont think I ever realized just how massive nebraska is until I saw it
Nebraska isnt even a real state, you all watch too much movies. For real.
I think I learned as much as my son on his field trip and only scratched the surface of the Nebraska history that they have on display. Tour guides were great and answered everyones questions. Worth at least a couple trips and to try and see it all.
Nicely curated little museum. I got the impression they hadn't been opened long or maybe just not in this locations. It looks like they are working on expanding as funding permits. The exhibits are lovely and informative. I was happily surprised to find quilts there! The gift shop is very nice as well. The 3rd floor is currently closed, thus my comment about expanding. I look forward to visiting again in the future if my travels bring me this way again.
Great day at work today and tomorrow morning I will be here until my next check and see if I can get a hold of the same thing as you can so that is what it is
Not a whole lot of fun for our kid's.
Interesting
Really cool artifacts!
Average local museum not a lot to see
International Fest..
Was extremely disappointed. As a child I remember how amazing this place was. Pumped my kids up for a visit and everything was changed. Only one floor really open, the artifacts on Nebraska were neat, but this place was so much more before. No historical cars the old stair case, amazing guns even the actual children's play area was gone. Just completely shocked. The so called remodel distroyed the museum. We seen everything and was only there for 30 mins.
Alot to see with tons of things for the kids to do
Modestly sized but very good state history museum. You can see everything in about an hour and a half. Definitely worth a visit, and it's free!
Free and informative
Very interesting and informative displays and artifacts. Friendly staff, free admission.
Has an abundance of artifacts but they are jumbled. There's no sense of order to them such as division between time periods.
A great repository of Nebraska history. If you are from Nebraska, you will appreciate this museum.
Nice. Nice. Nice.
Not as interesting as it used to be
Fabulous place for kids and adults. True gem
It was good to see how well recent renovations look. The exhibits on our visit were eclectic, consisting mostly of various artifacts on display without any unifying theme other than their Nebraska heritage. The explanatory texts were very helpful, though, and the visit was worthwhile. Sometimes, the "let it all hang out" strategy is good for a museum with as strong a collection as this one.
It's very limited at the moment. But was told it will get better.
History, insightful
It was a very interesting place. It brought out my inner history buff.
Great museum! I appreciate the knowledge I gained today.
Wonderful friendly environment free and great for any age
Not a very expansive collection. However it was very nicely kept and very educational for the kids. We will continue to support the museum.
We were visiting Lincoln to see family and spent a couple hours at this museum. Lots of great exhibits on the history of the plains and Nebraska in particular. First floor dedicated to stock car racing if that is your thing. The 2nd floor is more your typical history exhibits. Also great for kids with some hand on exhibits. This is not the Smithsonian but a great local museum. See it if time permits. The presidential dolls are very creepy. Wish they told you more about them. Museum is free of charge.
Free museum that offers an excellent collection of Nebraska history across industries and eras.
For a free museum this place is great!
I especially liked second floor. Admission is free.
peddlers. Neat little museum.
Very interesting to learn so much about the history of the Great State of Nebraska at this museum in downtown Lincoln. Well worth at least two or three hours and I was glad to be here during the summer break. I have no doubt that this place fills up with kids on school trips who are running about and generally making a lot of noise. None of that today! Starting with an exhibit on dirt racing (the docent was unimpressed with my knowledge of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in my home of Charlotte), there were crafting exhibits, women in business, a huge photography exhibit and more about Nebraska growing from territory to state.
Amazing place
They have changed a lot. There are more kid friendly displays. But a lot of the old historical artifacts are no longer on display. I felt like there was just a lot more that could be done in the space. Especially on the top floor.
Well organised
Interesting
Hidden Treasure
Was awesome
One of our favorite places to go in the winter as a family. Very fun, for all ages!
Friendly staff. Museum was well laid out and informative.
Fun
So many cool things!! Exhibits change so there is always a reason to come back. The store also has lots of cool gifts.
A little disappointed with the displays.
I love how they keep things up-to-date while switching things around. This is where I learned that the world's biggest carving knife was forged and put on display...... Well, forged IN Nebraska, put up in display here in the Museum
This place a nice collection of items from our state history.
Love the fact it's free. Honestly sad they remodeled. Nice to see new exhibits but the loss of the old ones and the cool staircase is so sad. No flow. Exhibits bounce between 1800's and 1900's. I would have given the museum 5 stars before the remodel.
Lots 2 see. Nice exhonots
It was very interesting and the kids had fun. We would like to go back sometime.
Very interesting and free
Great place to visit
Exhibits change frequently! When I went there were derby cars and quilts. They don't charge admission so it's something you should definitely check out!
Wonderful hands on experience for the kids!
Very educational and fun staff was great
Very interesting.
Nice place to take a stroll through and learn about the history of the state! Always nice to take a minute to appreciate the past.
My son love's it there can't wait for the new car display!
it's free
