The state worker was very informative, and talking with him, he used to live next door to my great grandfather! The fifties film was also interesting, as it was an introductory movie shown to employees as orientation.

Adrian Lewis

Worth the stop. Need at least an hour.

Ryan Schilling

The property is pretty neat, mostly tailings and the gravel pit from the old mine. The recent addition of a shooting range in the old mine pit is a unique feature. The mine museum also has a lot of stuff in it from old StJoe Lead Mine Co equipment to a display of "minerals of Missouri".

On the surface this seems to be a place only history buffs will appreciate but the staff is friendly and welcoming to kids. They went out of their way to teach my kids about the mining equipment on display.

Sheila Bridges

Great beginner bike trail!

Matt Miller

Until you see it, it's hard to grasp the scale of the machinery that allows us to live the way we do. The lead mines were a massive operation. The museum is great, but it's kind of old people fun. I don't know how much young kids would enjoy it, but I found it really interesting. Also, once a year, they have a Rock & Mineral Show, which is amazing. You should go at least once!

Art the guy at the museum is a wealth of knowledge. We were lucky enough to catch him when we were the only other people they and I could of listened to him and his stories for a couple more hours. He is truly passionate about persevering the history of this awesome place. The musuem was good and had a lot of neat stuff the movie could be updated but with the knowledge of Art that's what made up for the movie.

Awesome Mineral Collection! The Missouri Mines Rock Swap 2nd weekend in June every year is Awesome. A must see!

Since the Bonne Terre Mines were closed on Thursday we had heard about this place from family and decided to check it out. It was a wonderful experience, brought to life by a gentleman named Art, who is a living encyclopedia on all things related to the mines. He also does a great job of engaging kids. My 11 and 8 year old boys especially enjoyed his narratives and how he showed them how to use the machinery. I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you have Art as your guide!

Maren Celest

Cool that you can *legally* explore an old mine a little bit (wink wink). Emphasize on the "little". But, it was nice to have lil factoid plaques and to not hafta worry bout getting arrested!

What an awesome learning experience! What a site!

Katy Baisch

I thought they would give a tour. There really wasnt any info about the place at all. Just the old building and a room with rocks and old machinery. You have to pay to go into the room. Unless your passing through it really isnt worth the drive.

We passed the Missouri Mines State Historic site while on our road trip. The complex was so imposing in the landscape that we had to stop. We then happened upon a tour by one of the guides named Art. If you can plan your visit while he is on duty, it's worth it! He really brought the whole Missouri mining experience alive with narratives from actual miners and colorful stories. I did not expect to enjoy the visit as much as I did.

Had alot of fun going to gem and mineral show and then going to museum for free that day. Interesting.

Mark Haskell

Fascinating old lead mine complex. Good mineral museum and a collection of old mining equipment worth the minimal admission fee. Docents did a great job of explaining the history of mining region. Hopefully they will have funding in the future to open more of the buildings to the public. The adjacent state park has camping and ATV facilities.

The Recar Family

Neat info and cool museum

David Powell

Very worth viewing and absorbing all the information available. The official (Mark I Believe) did a good job of explaining and helping us understand the different mine equipment. The video was also very interesting. Thanks for having this site for people seeking knowledge of those mining days.

Really cool place to visit. We didn't go into the museum as we didn't have any cash on us $4 pp but just looking around at all the old buildings is amazing.

Phenomenal place for adults and children alike. If you enjoy history, machines, rocks, minerals and geology you are at the right place. Make sure you talk with Art!

Lance King

Art was a wonderful tour guide he spent a lot of time explaining the history of the mine all the machines and how the process worked. It was well worth the minor four dollar charge

Mary Bailey-Jones

We were passing through Missouri and found a sign along the road for this attraction. They have a small museum that opens at 10am.

Really neat place to learn about missouri's mining history, the staff is very knowledgeable and the museum is very cool

No walking tours into the buildings/mines. Dont be fooled by the photos, its almost depressing to go to the mines. Its just the main entrance and into the VERY basic gallery, which is not done yet. The primitive gift shop is very basic as well. ALL areas are restricted to public access, its just the main open area and everything else is fenced, not worth the drive. Not worth it. If you do like MTB, the park connects to almost 10 miles of bike trails, access point is the MO mines parking lot. In half a day, nobody else showed up, my wife and son took a good nap in one of the benches, while I took some pictures to justify the gasoline and time spent to get to the mines. Tourist trap, and fyi, no discounts of any kind, and they do not accept AMEX.

Robert Renner

Really cool place lots of neat things to see and do.

Very interesting. Will go back with others

A fun piece of mining history right in our home town area, the guides are very nice and have a plethora of information about the historic site, me and my family had a fruitful experience there and enjoyed the trail at the back of the parking lot. Would definitely go again for the trail and the rock and crystal exhibit they have (quite the beautiful collection).
