This Museum is classified in the category of Historical place museum.
My daughter and I stopped by here on our way to Branson for our mommy/daughter trip we do every year. I loved this place! The man that lead the tour was very informative and was very nice. The museum was great too
I love coming here with my family! The yearly festival is so fun and the volunteers are incredibly informative and friendly!
Loved the artifacts from her life...
amazing place and history, was worth our time
My daughter is a huge fan of Laura Ingalls. She loved going too the museum. The weekend we went was their annual day of having the homes open too. She was so excited to get to go inside her home and see where and how she lived.
Nice and friendly. The museum has been moved further away, and tickets must be purchased there.
Very nice historic place.its amazing to see such home life. And how they lived back then. I recommend everyone to visit there.
My friend and I give them 5stars,we paid extra for guided private tour, very interesting knowledgeable staff we had Rhonda for our guide
Our visit was a blast! The docent in the house was very knowledgeable. Wear good walking shoes!
Anyone who either has children or was one once and has read the little house books should stop here. Probably the coolest thing to see is Pa's fiddle you have read about.
A must see, if you're a 'Little House on the Prairie' fan. How it all started. Very cool how All items/structures were left intact and untouched since she passed away.
Nice museum and gift shop with RV campgrounds across the road.
Nice house, good museum. Not allowed to take photos in house or museum.
A visit to this museum is worth the drive. Michelle gave a excellent tour of the house and the museum is full of interesting memorabilia.
Great historical property. Friendly staff, informative. Definitely a good stop.
Only I could see this place in a TV serial as The Little House in Prairie when I was a little boy. I wish to experience the same adventure in 19th century, but it's impossible to back that time.
Terrific guided tour of an amazing historic site. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She seemed to love the history of the location and of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The museum was nice, and had a ton of artifacts from Laura's life. At first I thought the admission price was steep but after everything I got my money's worth.
The tour was a little bland but the house is a must see. I really wish they had a better hand out giving more details about Laura
The museum and tour are great. Really neat to see such history preserved
If you like little house on the prairie you need go stop and visit this museum and house. It's a great on-site into her life.
It was my 2nd time visiting ! I enjoyed it very much ...just as much as I did the first time. This time was better because I had more of a one on one tour with the tour guide . Libby was an amazing tour guide and just as excited to share info as I was !
This was a great day! There was a lot to see here. Both homes had excellent tour guides that were able to answer all of our questions.
They need a person who enjoys working the front desk taking your entrance fee. The woman who took my money was clearly having a bad day and I was ill treated as she was clearly not wanting me to ask questions. I have a condition and had driven two hours to see this and no sympathy when I asked if I could just join the current tour and was told no. You wait your wait your whole life to see this and it be so pricey and one person be SO rude. Clea needs a different job instead of interacting with the public. Will not ever be back.
Very nice place to explore and learn about the writer of the Little House series.
This is beautiful place to visit, full of history. A great place to walk back in time. Wonderful museum and gift shop.
Historic home with gift shop
If you have read the books you will enjoy visiting this location.
Most enjoyable. Nice day trip From home
Everyone should put this on their list of places they must visit! Historical and kept that way for generations.
Lots of history here, I loved it so much
I love old homesteads and areas like this, being able to see where the books were written was fun. Good weekend getaway if you live close.
It was fun to see this piece of history
It was on the wife's bucket list.
We had a blast. I grew up reading these books, and knew a lot about Laura, however I still learned new things and had a great time
Its awe s ome psrt of true American history awesome..
Great folks cool history of a good author.
Small but nice RV park with nice views. I've stayed here three times when passing through southern Missouri on US60. It's a little rustic, and some of the hookups may be on the wrong side at some sites but they work. The wifi is very good. It's a Passport America campground. The lack of state parks in this part of Missouri make this a very nice alternative.
Nice place nellie Olson was there 2019 at the museum this year for autographs
If you enjoy the books, you'll enjoy this place. Not a lot of things to do but very interesting.
Fantastic tour. Great for the whole family. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.
Tour guides very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Laura and Rose Wilder. Added to the experience and worth the money for the tour. No pictures inside was kind of a bummer but they did have post cards of everything I wanted pictures of in the home.
Super super cool place to visit! Love all the history and all the stuff they have kept original...love this place
Well adding photos is hard because they have a no picture policy.
Well worth the drive!
Wonderful museum! Both houses are in wonderful condition! We spent 2 1/2 hours there and could have easily spent another 2 hours there. So much to see.
If you ever followed (little house on the prairie) you will want to visit here. Also see the little rock house.
Definitely a one of a kind museum and tour . Very interesting and historical. The guides are knowledgable and friendly, sharing personal stories about Laura and her family. It's so well preserved you feel like you stepped back in time. Definitely recommend you give it a try, you won't be disappointed..
A wonderfully preserved look at Laura Ingalls Wilder's life! My family and I really enjoyed the tour, the rock house, and especially the museum. There's a decent amount of walking, but not extremely long or strenuous. Best of all, all of the buildings are air conditioned
I was disappointed a bit probably because expectations were so high. It's a nice museum and you can't tour the homes where the Little house books were written it is very comprehensive on Laura Engalls Wilder and her family. It doesn't take much time to complete every thing so a quick stop if that's what your looking for while traveling.
Enjoyed the history. Check off one item of bucket list!
Only stayed overnight just passing through, really nice people and nice campground. Easy pull thru sites.
Great place to visit
Great place to visit! Their bookstore variety was amazing! Our kids loved it!
I was with Gail Clements, the director of A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas scheduled for December at the Stained Glass Theatre. We were there doing research for the play. It was a very informative trip & our conversation with a docent named Marie was especially helpful.
If you want a peaceful country setting, this is the place. Couldn't get my satellite to pick up a signal, but it didn't matter. We ended up enjoying the surroundings and watched videos lol. We will come back
Great campground. With a pleasantly rustic and relaxed feel, this was a great place to stop for a few days rest with our 5 kids as we drove cross country. Hosts were relaxed and helpful, the creek, cave and pond were all hits with the kids, the bath house was not fancy but very adequate. We extended our stay here a day and even then it was hard to leave this relaxing quiet spot.
This is in the top two best Laura sites--right up there with DeSmet, South Dakota.
Me, my daughter and husband went on the tour and we enjoyed it. We did not finish the tour as the house was very small and it was hard to hear the tour guide but the people were very nice, the tour was informative and our daughter loved the gift shop.
Short, sweet and lovely! Fans of Laura and her books will truly enjoy stepping into her actual homes, seeing her things, and learning more about the amazing lady that lived " the little house" books.
The books come to life in this incredibly well-preserved home. The docents are knowledgeable and friendly. Very much worth a detour if you are in the area!
Stopped in on our epic Laura Ingalls Wilder Jeep Trip. Nice people, nice museum. Thought I would brag to another couple about distance we traveled, "we are from New England...". She replied, "We are from New Zealand." Oh.
A Great place to vvisit. Lots of the original items in the house and museum. Museum was new and very interesting. A $14 charge to enter.
We made a half day drive to visit the museum which I had eagerly been waiting to visit for years. The museum did not disappoint. I was able to see exactly what I had hoped I would in the clean glass cases. I also was so grateful for the woman who answered my bucket of questions without irritation. I am giving 3 stars for 2 reasons. The first is the house tour. There were so many people packed in there that I could not turn without bumping into someone or something. The entire time, I was unable to really look at the house and enjoy it because I was so focused on my every move. There is no reason why the groups could not have been split up that day. My 2nd issue is with the Rock house self tour. In attempt to park, we noticed the woman standing in the window staring at us with a glare on her face. Because there were some elderly ladies parked in the handicapped parking, I decided to drive back down to the parking lot and just walk back up to the house. When entering, she did not great us, only acted very irritated/annoyed. I spoke to her asking how she was doing and she stated that no pictures were to be taken inside the house. It was not a self tour, it was a very awkward 10 minutes where she followed us around making us feel like we were doing something wrong. When another couple walked in, she greeted them with enthusiasm. I was so upset that I just left. I am disappointed that I was unable to experience the joy that comes with visiting places of this caliber of history.
Thanks employees made us feel like we couldn't look around in the gift shop after paying for our tickets
If you are a fan of Little House on the Prairie You Need to Visit. Even if Your not. This is a lovely place and the Hone of a Great American Writer!!!
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable! Admission covers a staff guided tour of Rocky Ridge, a self guided tour of the Rock House, and the museum at the Visitor's Center where you can see Pa's fiddle and other items mentioned in Laura's books! A must see for any Laura Ingalls Wilder fan!
Worth the drive from Branson!
If you have read Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, this place is a must see. The museum is well done with lots of information and artifacts from her and her husband's lives. It is great to see the two houses that they lived in and see where she wrote her books. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. The only negative was pictures cannot be taken inside any of the buildings. Don't forget to stop by the cemetery to see their graves and bring a small momento to leave on her headstone. If this review was helpful to you please give it a like.
Our family loves learning more about the Ingalls/Wilder family. What a great tribute this place is to her memory.
This place was pretty neat. My daughter has read all the Little house on the prairie books and really enjoyed it. I did not read the books but I do like history. The guided tour of the house was neat because they explain the history of several items in the house.
Nice museum, but price seems a little steep to me @ $14 a person. Maybe this is my bias for free museums due to living in St. Louis where almost all this stuff is free. You can do the whole museum in under an hour even if you are moving slow. They do a good job in the space and fit a lot in. The tour also gets you a short video about Laura's life, a guided tour of her original house, and a self-guided tour of her newer house.
Enjoyed it. My husband read all her books to our son growing up.
Fantastic! My wife has wanted to go back for many years and we went when it wasn't too hot or cold and enjoyed it well. Part of American history.
great little park, we stopped on our way through MO, just happened to be the wed/Thu before their big Laura Ingles Wilder celebration and they were busy getting ready, but we're not to busy to be friendly and chat. great park, roomy, level sites, easy in/out, and best of all felt safe being out with our 2 yr old running around, chasing chickens, playing on play ground, etc... lots to do and relaxing, will be back. oddly we had zero expectation, so great surprise!
Really interesting place to visit. Museum was interesting and they still maintain a quite a bit of the historic artifacts. Visiting the house is a must and the tours conducted are very informative and entertaining. If time permits, make sure to visit the "Rock House" a great addition to the overall tour.
We saw the sign about the home and turned around to go back. We enjoyed the tour the guide was extremely knowledgeable. I only wish we had time to go back to the museum next to the home. While I did enjoy the tour I thought $14 per person was a bit high priced for what we got.
Walk the quiet path between farm house and Rock house! Close by Nellie's restaurant/ice cream parlor delightfully recreated a lunch of notorious quality .Loved it!
Awesome park with plenty of activities for the kids. We ended up leaving early because bad weather was coming in and they went out of their way to call us and refund our money without us even asking for it. Great people.
Been there it was amazing.
Informative. Friendly tour guide. Enjoyed getting some of Laura's personal side "in -person". 4 starts because they should have summer hours. 5pm closing in June is crazy. Can't get any close look if you're a minute late.
Nice museum and home. We are happy that we had stopped on our way to Oklahoma.
Not happy right now. We home school our kids and thought it would be nice to take them to the Wilder home since we had just finished reading one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Our family traveled from Arkansas and stayed over night to visit the museum . The website said that the museum was supposed to open at 9 am. We were told when we arrived that they would not be opening until 6:00pm. There was also another family there that had traveled from Texas. Now there are at least 9 people who went out of their way to visit, that will not get to enjoy their trip. Please, in the future, correctly update you site!
Amazing!!! It is very beautiful!!! Our tour guide was such a joy...it was clearly done from her heart!!!
Enjoyed getting to do the homestead walk through, but it was by tour group times only and was too crowded to get to spend the amount of time that I wanted to see everything. It would have been great if you were aloud to walk through freely, even if supervised. The museum and store was great and very modern. Definitely recommend if you're a "Little House" fan.
This place is amazing! Plan on being there at least 2 hours. So much to see and read. So very glad they have conserved her house and things. A must see for any little house fan.
Wonderfully hand crafted houses and a great experience for any fan. Fantastic group of dedicated people keep this open to the public, be sure to thank them.
It was a beautifull experience too bad the rain made it so cold we' ed love to go bsck in the summer. But it was great.
So convenient to the museum across the street. Very pretty surroundings. Was easy to set up or little. It is a tad hilly so expect to exercise! Nice and quiet.
Because they tell lots of stories about Laura ingalls wilder
This is the home where Almonzo Laura Ingles Wilder lived in MO. This is home where she wrote the Little House on the Prairie books. There is also a stone house nearby the their daughter Rose built for them. There is a museum and tours are given of the house and grounds.
Authentic, rustic and beautiful! So well preserved
Well life is different than TV. As long as you remember that, you'll enjoy the history. The house and museum were nice. The grounds were well kept and the walk to The Rock House was enjoyable.
Well worth the drive! Totally loved our time there! Knowledgeable and friendly staff, nicely restored home, museum had some great items! A must see for any Little House or Laura Ingalls Wilder fan
So close to Laura while I was here at her last home! Fantastic museum and gift shop. So enjoyed the home tour!
Nice piece of history to see
Laura was a childhood hero of mine and this visit was a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list moment. Got a little emotional seeing things in person that were iconic to the books, like Pa's fiddle, dresses like the White Lawn, and letters by Laura's hand. Walking through her home that was built and furnished mostly by Almanzo was just unreal. It was a true honor to visit and i will never forget it.
Nice historical site. Well maintained and informative. A must see if you are close and have read the books.
Very nice visit, the staff patiently waited, even though we arrived just before closing.
I'm biased because this in my home town But it is a wonderful historical site to visit.
The place was closed when we were there, I know this place is a 5 star. Will definitely go there when they are open. Can't wait
Seeing the true pictures.of the ingalls family in the museum helps me feel like I am on their travels before Laura and almanzo came to settle for their final stop here in missouri. Its a sad but exciting story Laura writes about.
My husband and I LOVED the (2) homes, grounds, and museum. We spent (5+) hours and read nearly all the information about the wonderful museum exhibits. Awesome gift shop. We also drove into Mansfield and viewed the graves of Laura, Almanzo, and Rose. Suggestions would be to have female guides wear reproductions of Laura's white lawn dress (or other period), provide photo ops with Laura's life-size photo cut-out in museum area, advertise the eggs for sale and explain source as from the grounds, and post future planned improvements to entice visitors to come again!
This park is across the road from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. Come on, if you're read the books and you're in the area, you know you've got to stay. This was the best park of our trip. It's simple and unpretentious, but the grounds are lovely. There's a little pond with a bridge, mowed and manicured expanses of grass, flowers everywhere, a cave to explore, and our site was next to a tiny chicken coop with four chickens to watch! At night, everything was dead quiet. No car noises or anything else. The loudest sounds were the faint murmur of the neighbor's quiet conversation. I want to come back and stay longer.
We stopped because I used to watch little house on the Prairie.
Deffinitly recommend visiting here. The employees went above and beyond in providing information and seemed genuinely passionate about the wilder family, I go to a lot of museums and never saw as much courtesy and respect towards the guests as I saw there. The museum and the houses were small, but it is very touching and you can feel like you travel back in time and learned alot.
We called ahead as we'd be arriving late and were pleasantly directed where our site was and how to check out in the morning. The directions were spot on, the site clean and well-kept, and we easily hooked up. The shower facilities are suitable and we're looking forward to visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum today!
Well worth the time to drive and see.
Loved the museum. Wish they had more info on there website. Didn't know what to expect and brought 2 little ones. Was hell with them.
I grew up watching the TV show with my mother. I was flooded with a sense of nostalgia as I walked the grounds. Inside the houses; it was like visiting Grandma's house. The gift shop is very reasonable in it's priced, and the staff doesn't sound you to make a selection nor give you a hard sell. Loved it!
Love seeing the history behind one of my favorite authors.
Great lessons learned by Wonderful People
It was amazing I saw so much stuff from my childhood, it was great, I loved it, I would totally recommend going if you like Laura ingalls
We got there late so was unable to get the full tour. The ladies were very nice and we did get to have a quick tour of the house.
This place is absolutely enchanting. Clean, comfortable, and friendly with beautiful grounds to explore. I loved the ponds which were full of adorable frogs and the laundry/shower facilities with all the comforts of home. The family that owns and operates the park take great pride in their business and the location is right across from the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. We stayed in a tent camping spot that was very reasonably priced, especially with all the amenities available to us. I highly recommend this park for your next vacation!
If your spouse or significant other is into Little House on the Prairie books and history this is a place to take them. The guided tour by George was really informative and he invited you to ask questions. This is a seasonal tour so make sure you check when its open as it closes a week or two before Thanksgiving. Expect to spend at least 2 to 3 hours to take it all in. They are going to renovate the location with some original historical structures in the coming years. (As of this 2018 review)
Love, love this place.
We loved the homestead and museum. My wife grew up reading the little house on the prairie books so this was something she absolutely loved.
Interesting tour. Part of our American heritage that a few are trying to erase from our history. You can't get more wholesome than Laura Engalls but her delightful books are being removed from shelves all in the name of "racism". Nothing could be further from the truth. Very disturbing. I have purchased her books and her movie series, "Little House on the Prairie" for my grandchildren.
If you loved Laura's books, you'll love this. The museum has a TON of things from different eras in her life. Loved seeing Pa's infamous fiddle, the glass bread plate and butter mold - among other things - that we all read about. I recommend going through the museum first because it gets you in the right frame of mind. The farmhouse tour could vary based on the day - we had a big group so we could self-guide with a brochure and had a guide available for questions. I was in and out in 15 minutes, you may have a different experience with a guided tour. I feel like it was a bit short for what it was. I walked the path back behind the farmhouse to the rock house - 15 min each way. Up hill from the house, the flat, then downhill to the Rock House and back. I recommend this so you can see the farm. The Rock House was also lovely! Between the two I learned more about Laura and Almanzo's struggles, Rose's success and their lives in general. I know that the house is not really on the way to much of anything unless you're doing the Bass Pro aquarium in Springfield or going to Branson, but my heart is happy now that I've fulfilled a childhood dream. It's worth a stop, for sure! Make sure to visit the cemetery in town where Laura, Almanzo and Rose are buried.
I would love to go and visit this museum I grew up watching little house I've read the books too x
Last year I got to visit this historic place and to learn so much about the family we portrayed on TV. The homes where Laura and Almanzo lived are beautifully maintained and it's a thrill to see where Laura wrote. Hope you get to go!
We were unable to visit the house because we had our dog. The museum was very nice. Great gift shop!
Fun, educational look into the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The house she & her husband built the beautiful way they decorated the house, the surprising upgrades their daughter Rose bought for them. It was all beautiful & the tour guide was very knowledgeable & helpful.
Haven't been here since I was a teenagers! Loved all the updates and additions!
Great Museum and the House was interesting to walk through.
I grew up reading the Little House on the Prairie books, loved visiting this quaint little home.
Amazing museum here! We had the best time!
Beautiful and quiet place to visit.
Excellent, but be prepared to hike a bit, as the estate is a little spread out.
This place was wonderful. As a fan of all the Little House on the Prairie books and shows, it was not a let down at all. The guide was amazing, he truly knew everything about the family.
I have always loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, so to visit here was awesome! The place is beautiful. All the docents and workers were very friendly and knowledgeable. Parking was good. The new museum is really nice.. The two houses are beautifully kept up. A piece of history.
As a child, I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder's books about pioneer family life. It was a special joy to serendipitously come across the home she and her husband lived in, as I drove across southern Missouri one day unaware of the historic site until I drew close to Mansfield. If you're a fan of Laura's too, or have a child to whom you can introduce her delightful tales, do spend at least part of a day at her home. Sit under a tree or open up a picnic basket on the grounds -- I'm sure Laura would have loved it.
Very well done. Friendly knowable staff.
Wonderful experience. The docents are so personable and full of interesting "Laura" information. Even if they are saying the same thing for the thousandth time, it doesn't show. These folks are genuinely caretakers of the Laura Ingalls Wilder property and legacy. The new museum is a fantabulous facility, with all the memorabilia displayed with the proper amount of space, so respectfully and so professionally. Love you Laura Ingalls Wilder, your books, your legacy and your preserved homes and museum :)
This place is a wonderful escape to our past. Watching the t.v. show didn't do the place justice. 14.00 dollars is nothing compared to what you receive in turn. I have no problem giving to this non-profit so they can keep our children's me.ories alive when look g at her books, then seeing the reality. Take a wonderful dive into our history, the water is fine.
Love Little House on the prairie.. love the history.
Wonderful experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Very tight spaces in house, lots of original items. Well worth the price.
Great visit. The house is very well maintained and those working there are very informative.
If you liked the Little House show or books it's an interesting place to visit to learn about their lives and see some of the things in real life.
My husband and I visited this yesterday. I must say, the woman at the front counter was a sweetheart! The tour guide at the Rock home was just as wonderful! However, when we toured the first home, I was disappointed. The home itself is very nice and I love that there is this opportunity to see it. The poor experience came from the tour guide of that home. First, the tour group was so huge that you couldn't hardly move in the tiny house. Second, the tour guide stood in one spot in the kitchen. She offered no real "guidance". When my husband asked her 1 question she snapped at him to read his pamphlet. As we finished the walk from the Rock house, we heard her telling the next tour about his mistake of trying to ask her a question and that she would not tolerate that again. You need to read your pamphlet not ask her. What's the point of her job if not to guide the tour? I will not return as long as she leads tours.
This camp is clean and extremely well taken care of. The owners are a precious family who are available and obviously take great pride in providing a visit to remember. They are making improvements but the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Enjoy a stocked pond, cave adventuring, and play area that is visible from all sites. Participant of Passport America and daily price is reasonable you will not be disappointed. :)
I’ve been reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books for as long as I can remember. As new books continue to be released, I try to read those as well. Being able to tour the Wilders’ farmhouse, the Rock House, and a museum full of related items in Mansfield, MO was extraordinary. The farmhouse was almost exactly as Laura left it when she died, to the point they had a calendar left in it dated February 1957, which was the month she passed away. The Rock House was surprisingly empty, in large part because Laura and Almanzo had moved much of the furniture back to the farmhouse with them when they moved back. The museum’s collection of items was phenomenal. The highlight for me was seeing Pa’s fiddle and the bread plate that Laura and Almanzo bought for their first Christmas together. In addition, for each book written, the museum had a collection of items that were referenced in the book. For example, the lace that Ida Brown gave Laura in “These Happy Golden Years” was in the case for that book. Even if you are not a longtime reader of Laura Ingalls Wilder and know not the slightest about her or her family, this home and museum is a wonderful way to learn more about living in the American frontier during the mid 1800s and the life of American farmers. If you are nearby, I would absolutely recommend that you stop for a tour of the farmhouse (about 20 mins long) and also walk through the museum. I doubt that you will regret it.
This was an amazing experience and would go again
We loved this campground. We stayed just shy of two weeks. It is right across the street from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, they have a little shop, clean shower/laundry facilities, a large pond with lots of tadpoles (the kids loved this), a small playgrounf that my kids spent a ton of time at, hammocks, tire swing, a clean creek to swim in, and a cave (free) within walking distance. The owners have two lovely children that my kids made fast friends with. The owners are lovely people, very friendly. Fair price.
Great tour through the houses very informative
Interesting historical site, house, museum and grounds. But no photos inside
Well worth the time to spend a day here and in nearby Mansfield. Be sure to visit the town cemetery and see the Wilder family graves. Eat ata and Pa's on Main Street. Made me appreciate her books even more.
Amazing experience seeing where Laura lived and wrote her books. I have read her books many times and I am happy they are now available for e-readers.
