REVIEWS OF Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art IN Mississippi

Sue Bruno

A unique gallery! Thoroughly enjoyed the varied shape, sizes, textures and colors of Ohr pottery. The outlandish folklore surrounding the man was as interesting as his ware. The work of Ferguson had many wonderful political messages regarding environment and civil rights. The museum itself is a work of art with its many levels and shapes. Highly recommend this as a must see in a visit to Biloxi!!

Fantastic art and hospitality!

The staff here are very friendly. I enjoyed the Art exhibits. The Katrina exhibit was very moving. You would spend 10 dollars on a burger at McDonald's why not spend the same or less on a visit to a good Museum.

Not many exhibits right now. Renovation and moving in a new type of interesting exhibit. Discounted price for discounted exhibition.

Stacey Ferguson

I enjoyed my visit to the Ohr-O-Keefe Museum. George Ohr's pottery was amazing. I was disappointed that all of the "pods" weren't open, but there were many other exhibits available. My favorite part of the visit was talking with the potters in the workshop. I didn't realize how many classes were available. As a local resident, I love it that so much happens at the museum.

Beautiful example of Gehry design. Go for that more than the museum itself, which isn't much.

Victoria Holley

I wish they had more to look at we went to three buildings I believe it was $16 total or maybe it was $16 per person I don't remember I personally would not come here again or recommend anyone but the staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable

Bertrand Malenfant

Wonderful building indeed !! And surrounded by centuries old trees which have witstood many a Katrina, the museum is a vivid testimony of hope for the future. I could only see the outside (closed on Sunday) but to me it is a vibrant example of what a museum of today stands for. A real masterpiece in itself, honoring the art of the potter. Worth exiting the I-10, if not for the horrible casinos ...though they did contribute their money. Must be seen absolutely !!

Jonathan Brashears

Great value and interesting exhibits. Most of the staff was friendly. A few of the buildings had a very strange, off-putting, mold smell.

Mark Gardiner

Magnificent display...accurately displayed history for motorcycle advances thru the years. Mad potter was amazing!

Dion Beaty

Tracy Davis

Not very many exhibits. Small. Not very wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Mitchell Graham

For the area it real didn't give good cultural stuff for what it costed

Regina Oleary

A great place to visit. My girls, 9 and 13, loved it.

Kylie Underwood

Not really an art museum. It's more of a Katrina Aftermath museum. I appreciate what they were trying to do and it's worth the money to preserve this part of the Gulf Coast's history, but it isn't worth the money if you're expecting an art experience.

Daniela del Valle

Shannon Burbank

Beautiful art gallery, lovely venue for a wedding.

My fiancee and I booked the beginners class at 50 dollars. I asked questions about glaze options that Natalea forwarded to Charlie Mabry. He never bothered to answer that email. We went to the class. It was fun and something I had wanted to do for a long time. We paid for 1 extra piece. Charlie said about 3 weeks to ship. A month and some days later and after having to inquire about it the pottery arrived via USPS. The box was not damaged on the outside but the contents were mostly destroyed. The packing was worthless just worthless. The first piece of pottery I ever made is just a pile of chips. I put a lot of effort into making a nice cup my 1st time. I feel ripped off. I would not be able to reccomend these folks at all. Take the money then showed us you dont care. Just worthless.

I ventured out here just hoping to see some different art. They ended up having some really interesting artist spotlights, and some very helpful staff. The cafe inside the main building has some nice treats. The architecture of the museum is fantastic. The gift shop spotlights local artists and has some really genuinely great work for sale. I stopped by just hoping to enjoy some art, but ended up chatting with staff and having a great time!

Great way to take a break from the casino scene. They were remodeling so missed out on an exhibit and ticket price adjusted. Nice collection.

I found the two visiting art exhibits to be in appropriately political and offensive. It doesn't take strength to be proactive and politically correct. There is no courage in their message. Art should be open and inclusive - and beautiful. These exhibits were not, on any front. Would the Ohr-O'Keefe present my art with a philosophy which opposed these messages? I bet not. I will not be back.

Ok, My sister is studying art history so I took her here cause this is her thing. We loved the pottery and the story of O'Keefe! But there isn't much else. I like the idea of the Katrina exhibition but there isn't much there. The buildings are gorgeous! Along with the location. I believe that over time this museum could grow into something magical. $10 per person. Discounts for students, senoirs, military, and others.

Great exhibits! Beautiful buildings.

Sarah Ann Platt

The staff are friendly and informative, the Moran, Miller and Ohr exhibits were stunning, and the architecture is so fun. Unfortunately, not all of the buildings are finished, but we'd love to come back when they are. Really great place and right on the beach!!!

Nice option while in Biloxi. Beautiful pottery and glazes.

Tim Kenney

Half the exhibits where closed and was charged full price, to look at some damn pottery, all by the same artist. You can hardly call this a museum, it's more like a tribute.

The pottery is beautiful and it's amazing how much they have, considering how much was lost in Biloxi during Camille & Katrina. The entire staff is wonderful, always making you feel welcome. Best is... they offer fun and interesting clay classes ranging from 2hrs to 6weeks. I've taken a few already.

Maddie Martinez

David McKee

Not a single work from George Ohr on display. Only two small buildings open. A few lame pieces from a local casino. A random historic home from "everyman" and a few cool wood carvings.

Emily Orton

Nice art. Pretty small so doesn't take long to look at everything.

Edward Turner

Jaclyn Norris

It was awesome! Loved Katrina +10. The staff make you feel welcome.

I'd rate this museum on a scale of 1 to 100 as a minus 1,000. Very bad. His pottery is crap. What bothers me the most, is Katrina money was used to build this piece of garbage. Huge waste of space in each room. Huge waste of talented people's work could be here or historical objects related to Katrina. Being from Iowa, I didn't know anything about Katrina. Reading that there was some information about Katrina at this museum; I was anxious to view the display. It gave me nothing but mostly newspaper clippings. Really?

Great experience. You won't view pottery like this anywhere else. Each piece is a unique treasure. Was surprised at how many different mediums of art were displayed in several unusually shaped separate buildings . Enjoyed shopping in the gift shop. Found restored old house to be very interesting. Highly recommend that you check out this museum.

Amy S

There's not much art inside. I would just walk around the buildings and take some snapshots.

Michael St. Marie

Can't top the other reviews except to say take the detour and visit this museum. Buildings. Art. Art for sale. Visit this amazing place.

Not a lot to see or offer. the Katrina display was poor. Just a few photographs and you could listen to the news reporters. I have no reason to revisit.

My husband and I absolutely loved this little museum. We spent 2 hours here. Don't get in a hurry. Talk to the artists, instructors, and docents. Make sure you visit the gift store. Lots of local art work for sale. Remember, buy art from artist who are living, the dead ones don't need the money!
