REVIEWS OF Mount Locust IN Mississippi

Tara Hopkins

Beautiful land this home is on. Behind the house is a slave cemetery, 10 were buried but sadly no markers. There is a sign stating their names. To the left of the house down a trail is the family cemetery. Very fascinating place and it's free!

Bart Stormont

really good example of old architecture and make sure you go see the slave cemetery while there. only one headstone left. very sad.

Raquel Hugus

A bit more here than you think. The slaves cemetery is rather haunting. the site is a good place to stretch your legs whilst taking in some history. If there is no one else around but yourself, kick back and feel the atmosphere.

The Information Center and Gift Shop are open Wednesday through Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Natchez Trace maps, Mt. Locust Inn and other brochures, as well as information on free camping at 3 sites on the 444 mile Natchez Trace can be obtained here. A water fountain and clean restrooms are on site, too. Plenty of parking for cars and RVs. Stop by and walk through the 1780 plantation house and inn. Visit the two cemeteries Junior Ranger books and Scavenger Hunts are available for children. Staffed by National Park Service Park Rangers and Volunteers.

Little place just off Natchez parkway. The place was a Plantation (small) with slaves back in the day. The graveyard with one gravestone standing is rather haunting.

If you have limited time along the trace, this is a great stop as it combines several trace features in one stop. And if you're not limited on time, this is a great stop to explore and gain historical knowledge of an era passed.
