Always a great experience everytime I go here.
The current exhibition is one of the best I've seen in this space! Must see!
Cranbrook is a very unique multi cultural educational community. I admire the K through 12 college prep school, the Institute of Science ( and 100,000 sq ft science museum), the Art Museum, the post graduate program Art Academy, and the fabulous grounds that contain Carl Millis sculpture. There is a lot to see and do.
Super place to hike, picnic, stroll, musrum is top!
Unique perfect scale of art museum
Unique collections, nice staff, beautiful grounds.
Friendly staff and a small, but cool, museum. I think it's primarily art by students, but with some traveling exhibitions.
One of best modern art galleries in metro Detroit
The grounds are beautiful. Took a tour and the guide was phenomenal. It's a very beautiful and relaxing place to go to. Hidden gem!
Amazing school. My husband graduated from highschool in 1964. The Art Institute is like the school; excellent!
awesome!
I stopped by to explore this unique school as I was visiting the area. The small art museum was pretty impressive in the topic and arrangement of pieces. Very professional.
Interesting and engaging exhibits with a beautiful landscape outside too.
Great artwork and lovely outdoor art areas.
Great place to walk around in the outdoors. They have really cool sculptures and gardens and it's all open and free. I didn't even go in the art museum. It's worth an afternoon.
Nice views and great art! The entire campus is wonderful.
If the main exhibits are not open that should be posted on the website and visitors should not have to pay OR donate to see >20 pieces in the basement, very unimpressed. And staff was not welcoming.
I love this museum. Consistently interesting exhibits and the staff is always helpful.
A lovely museum with great exhibits and wonderful grounds.
Small Museum but well done with knowledgeable and friendly staff
Nice fountains and architecture. Nature walk.
For a small gallery this museum offers a great collection and has opened the archives for viewing as well on special occasions. Membership is worth the price for all the additional benefits that come with it. Located on the estate it is a very nice setting in which to present the works
Loved the outside art!
Best thing about going to Cranbrook are the well maintained grounds. The art museum on the other hand cost like $15 just to get in and doesn't hold a candle to the DIA. Haven't been in the science museum yet but I am guessing again that it pales in comparison to the Detroit Science Center.
graduate artists never disappoint.
One word. "Beautiful"
It is located on a beautiful campus and the museum building and sculptures were a piece of art by themselves. The Giriard folk art and furniture display were amazing.
Great and beautiful museum.
Great experience for my second grade students!..thank you
Magnificent Saarinen building set in beautiful grounds. One of Detroit's hidden treasures. Unfortunately completely closed the day we went due to "icy roads"!!
Love the atmosphere!
I enjoyed my trip here with my girlfriend but was only able to look through the basement. Not very much to look at. Could've been better. I did have a lot of fun making fun of all the stuff people call art though!
The Booth family are visionary. I'm so thankful for Cranbrook and everything they did for the ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT. This is a remarkable community. Dedicated to art & creativity.
This art museum is part of the cranbrook boarding school community and they charge a fee for entrance. Ok now the museum itself is on a small campus building and the collections are seasonal. Like I happened to see Ed Dewey exhibit once which was mind blowing to me and a ceramic exhibit another time which wasn’t as impressive. There are few halls with student exhibits which have a theme and are well placed. In short it’s a modern art museum from a far later era than Warhol and Picasso. Good for a 2-3 hours stop. There are other sculptures in the open garden which is just brilliant in all fall or snow or spring. That’s free of entrance.
Kunst ja loodus koos. Suurepärane pargikompleks.
Very fabulous outdoor
A gem for anyone remotely or seriously interested in art. The semi permanent collections and exhibits are usually tied to local artists who made it big and make it that much more contextual.
great pace to bring the kids. or a date!
Gorgeous, thought-provoking, brilliant and wonderful to discover in this setting.
Pretty awesome place to hangout
Amazing architecture
Beautiful place to get married
(Translated by Google) It is a very calm and relaxing place. (Original) 아주 차분하고 여유로운 장소입니다.
Cranbrook is renowned for its architecture in the Arts and Crafts and Art Deco styles. The chief architect was Eliel Saarinen. Sculptors Carl Milles and Marshall Fredericks also spent many years in residence at Cranbrook.
Amazing museum, friendly staff and the grounds around Cranbrook are outstanding... great way to spend the day walking around enjoying the scenery.
Amazing art shows, and the grounds of Cranbrook are a destination that should be on everyone's bucket list!
Sleepy museum in the most striking campus
I feel like it should be free but its also very good
This museum is small but what you can see inside is always amazing. When you need to check creative works, you need to come this place. One of the best fine art museum in the US.
A must for families
Not my taste in art but displayed well. Clean restroom.
Failed to find a way to get inside but did some hiking around the museum. Pretty good place for hiking as well.
Great place and people
Situated on the gorgeous Cranbrook campus, the art museum is always worth a visit. Whether for an exhibit or a museum makery class - the CAM never disappoints.
Fantastic, diverse art
Gardens and the statues were lovely but I am typing a review about the "art" museum. Cant even call it art by far. It is a waste of money and I didn't see any art there. It was just some crafts that were made by special snowflakes.
Truly amazing.
Fantastic place for a walk.
Fun, and awesome afternoon at their Art Center for after hours crafts. The staff were all so sweet, and helpful, and a plus for the small cash bar. Happy to sip, and get crafty. Definitely going again.
Always a beautiful place to walk around on a sunday morning.
Cranbrook is wonderful. I know that a lot of people know all about it, but not enough. There have been several really great exhibits over the last few months. The most recent visit was the Shepard Fairey exhibit with the history of Punk Rock. Bought some great books and trinkets and it's nice because it's simple to get through. The location is beautiful. It kind of feels like the grounds should be situated somewhere in California. We love it.
One of my favorite art, gardens & library destinations any time of year.
Staff is always extremely friendly. The exhibits featured are always fantastic.
It was straight. Confirmed that Art wasnt really my thing lol
I went in with a lot bigger expectations than I should have there wasn't much art from people I knew and honestly it wasn't that great it took me about 20 minutes to get through the entire place. Obviously it's a further drive but head to the Detroit Institute of Arts if you are looking for real art.
Loved it here
Excellent building, but I don't like their non-representational art or their freaky representations of reality. Beautiful grounds, huge campus with 4 schools, art library adjacent, Japanese Garden, formal garden, lake, numerous paths. Love walking there.
There is no hand rail up to the entrance, the doors, while beautiful are too heavy to push open. The exhibition of Landlord Color, while interesting, has explanatory notes from the curators that are hopelessly meaningless art speak.
Must visit! Absolutely wonderful!
Very nice, beautiful setting.
Awesome place to take a walk, have an event, or go to school! Great campus, even better faculty and really nice views and fountains for great photo ops!
Went for the punk display. Beautiful gounds!
Smaller than I expected. The staff was friendly. Would’t go back.
Love the museum. People are always friendly and helpful. Space is perfect size for a one day trip. Some of the best exhibitions!
Hermoso lugar para caminar todos los jardines puedes entrar sin costo u excelente para que los niños corran y exploren las veredas dentro del parque
Beautiful Oakland County treasure
Critically acclaimed Museum Exhibitions and Collections
Fantastic exhibits. This place is like a real-life Hogwarts.
Beautiful scenery.
fun place to see off the wall art.
Good exhibit on Jean Michel Basquiat.
Beautiful museum, inside and out. We'd recommend it and will definitely return.
Peaceful... Picturesque :)
Great place for a walk
expensive
Cranbrook is a gem. Recommend spending some time enjoying the beautiful campus and the exceptional art museum.
Beautiful grounds. Well kept and great for photography. I'm going to have my wedding here.
Its ok nog for kids under 11 biring too much abstract art
Wonderful place, always interesting exhibitions, some weekend you can even get tour of storage and their treasure
Pretty neat. Lovely grounds. Accessible. Short hours on the weekend.
Didn't get to see it all because we where just meeting there for a tour, but what we saw was very nice and the staff where great.
Cranbrook has acquired a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home for their conservatorship. Thank you for sharing The Smith Home.
Art is amazing
Always a great experience here with information on the art and hands on experiences
Love Cranbrook!
Excellent rotating exhibits.
We went when only 2 exhibits in the basement were open. It was just ok. I am not really a fan of this kind of toy art. Maybe the next showcase will be better.
Disappointing. Charged $6 for a small pop-art exhibition. The campus is beautiful and parking is free, though.
We were here on the last day of the Davinci exhibition.
Beat, huge place for an afternoon, scenery hike.
The temporary exhibits were very intriguing.
Nothing much... Priced high for its contents
Gorgeous place!
Wonderful exhibit of Alexander Girard's work
Amazing and beautiful
There are so many free or very affordable events here that are worth your while. As an art lover/lapsed artist, I'm so grateful for this pillar of the community and the fascinating exhibits and experiences Cranbrook has to offer. If i'm ever looking for something to do on a Friday night or a lecture on an interesting topic, Cranbrook is the first place I look.
Lovely museum and gardens. Perfect Gorey exhibit. Nice relaxing walking paths and benches by the fountains.
I occasionally work there. The grounds are beautiful, and peaceful. Good for weddings, and other events.
Small, but well curated exhibits of modern art.
Very interesting, nice to go with somebody who is interested in art
Major architectural school in the 20th century
Very small art museum. It has a nice display of student art but does not have anything else despite their website claiming thousand of pieces in permanent exhibit. The grounds are beautiful and worth a visit though.
Absolutely beautiful. Musuems, grounds, and community are breathtaking!
A hidden gem!
Scenic
All of fun.
Amazing.
The grounds and fountains are just beautiful;a hidden gem for sure
Beautiful place
One of the true gems in Michigan. Great for kids as well as adults. Fabulous grounds. And try not to miss the daffodils in spring. And their special exhibitions are always worthwhile if not spectacular. I have been here countless times as both a child as well as an adult. Cranbrook inspired me to have a love of art that has enriched my entire life. A must.
A long time museum of the community. Cranbrook Art Museum has so much to offer. The exhibits are amazing as well as the museum itself. A definite do not wait to go and have a great time.
Love going here, always soothing and relaxing environment nice collection of different art. Plus have a nice theater that you can see movies and stage shows. Only thing I wish is they had better parking for the place
Beautiful peaceful place.
Beautiful grounds to walk or jog. Gorgeous gardens, art. Lovely visit
Art museum.
This is the best place in metro detroit, hands down!
The building architecture is absolutely beautiful and both the grounds and buildings are nicely maintained. We enjoyed viewing several exhibits on our visit. They do participate with NARM for those who have chosen a Reciprocal Level membership at another participating museum. The few staff that we encountered were friendly and capable of answering our questions. We live about 4 hours away but I'll be watching the exhibition list in hopes of returning soon.
I went there for the Basquiat exhibit and was very impressed! Superb section of art, and the exhibits were great! It's a smaller museum but has a lot to offer
Inspiring
This art museum was a slight disappointment my boyfriend and I had went and out of the whole building we were only allowed to look in the basement section which were art projects that were made recently and should not be considered art by any means. It may have been an experience I would have liked if we could have seen the actual art in the rest of the museum. Also the lady that greeted us did not seem pleased at all and talked to us as if we were below her especially when my boyfriend was trying to be polite and make sure the door did not slam on our way in. The only thing that made the experience well was my boyfriend and I making fun of the "art" in the basement which was the only place we could look.
Pleasant experience. Went to view the Jean-Michel Basquiat art exhibit which was pretty cool. Nice clean environment. Friendly staff.
One of the best places to see local and world-renowned art, this side of the Mississippi!
I love this - so beautiful and local history from the Detroit area
Fathers day visit!
They always seem to step up the level of creativity and respected art work!
Nice art museum. Small enough to do in an hour or so.
Always fun and educational. Exhibits change often, so something new and exciting on a regular basis!
Impressive original and renovation architecture, collection, and archive facilities
One of most beautiful places I've been to. Everything has an intricate design to it. The whole place is an art work
