If your into naval / military history then you need to make the trip to Battleship Cove. They have the Kennedy, the Lionfish, and the Massachusetts. Self guided tours take you throughout the ships, great collection of historical items. They have two restored PT boats as well. There's a restaurant on the Massachusetts (hamburger/ hotdogs) which makes things easy. It's worth the trip, check it out......
It's a really nice trip. It is very fun to explore the ships, but may be more difficult for older people.
A very cool hands-on museum. If you have any interest in military/historical museums, check this out! Bring comfortable shoes.
Love this place!
Great piece of history, check it out!
This place shows you exactly how hard it was to live on these ships and how amazing it is that we have the technogy we have today
Fantastic opportunity to see living American history close to home! We will be going back as you could NEVER hope to see everything in one visit!
It's packed with information on WWII and the Navy, but the best part is you get to explore all around the ship on your own. Great for kids.
Its a bunch of battleships. Its amazing. As someone who loves history, seeing all these things Ive researched and learned about in person is amazing.
Very historical, interesting to see the ship from the 20th century. Highly recommend
You can explore so much of the battleship. My brothers and i explored as much of the ship as we could. Lots of fun and history.
Awesome history there have to take your time
Great experience, especially for kids.
Great Ship, great place to bring kids to see a part of history
So loaded with history. Amazing look into the past. Fantastic fun for adults and kids interested in military history. Explore right down into the guts of a WWII battleship.
It was amazing!!! I would recommend it to everyone! So much history here. Being able to walk through the submarine !! Up the decks of the USS Massachusetts!! You have to go and bring the family.
Great museum of ships!
Amazing experience
Very fun self guided tours. Things the kids can climb on as well as actual WWII equipment and planes not for climbing. A nice day out for adults and children.
Very enjoyable overnight stay. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. What a great visit.
This is an absolutely wonderful place to be plan on spending the whole day It may be a little overwhelming for very young small children being sort of a repetition kind of thing. Boy Scout Troops are permitted to stay over there on weekends for sleepovers. In my opinion it's a five-star destination a battleship and Destroyer submarine, aircraft, PT boats.
Lots of fun, great place for kids to learn and explore. I went here as a kid several times, and brought my 5 year old son today, and we had a great time!
Incredible!! Loved it. You could spend days there looking at everything.
You get to learn about history where they slept eat jail cells captain and tons more
Climb aboard see feel and touch history. 4 ships to see for 18 dollars and AAA DISCOUNTS too. Nice sunsets too.
That is the first time climbing on a battleship. We spent 2 hours on the USS Massachusetts. We could have spent another hour or 2. The 16" guns and turrets we're fascinating.
Awesome place to visit, so much fun!!
This ship is a marvel of engineering that we are lucky to have here in New England. It's a really fun self guided tour.
If you haven't been to the battleship in Fall River you are quite literally wasting your life. You need to see the amazing ship and all of it's glory from inside and out. Tickets are only $25 and are good for 2 days. Not to mention you also get access to the Maritime Museum right down the street. It's a great value and a great way to spend time with the family!
Great history, and family fun
Enjoyed walking around the old ships
Disappointed that so many sections of the ship were not open to tourist. Otherwise, nice part of history.
Awesome! You need the whole day to see everything!
A little pricey but it was ok
Excellent
Nice area
This really was a great to tour. Absent the 1800 sailors on board, it seemed to be a huge vessel. I am sure that if it was fully populated, it would have seen incredibly small! I wish we lived in the area so that our Scout troop could participate in one of the stay on board overnights.
Slept aboard her, the story teller was great, touring this magnificent ship was educational
Easily the biggest and coolest battleship museum in the country. You could spend days roaming this massive ship and not see everything.there are nine floors to explore and the views are amazing. A must see in the Boston area for sure.
Amazing. More than one day allows. Lots of learning.
Amazing the battleship is so hands on would recommend for the military history people
The Battleship and other vessels at Battleship Cove are, and always will be a treasure. I organized a special trip for a group to view Battleship Cove. The people who organize events at the Battleship did a wonderful job co-operating with us. It was a day well spent for our guests, who came from as far away as Canada and California.
Loved exploring the ship with the kids both fun and educational
Absolutely amazing
This was our first time visiting and it was far more than I expected! Me and my 3 boys all had an amazing time! Hoping to come back next year!
Very well preserved example of a South Dakota class battleship, the most important ships of this kind that fought in WWII. Worth the visit, as well as the rest of the Battleship Cove museum. It has a little bar inside it.
Over the years I've been here several times. Awesome setup that beeps getting better!
Historic. Educational. Good restoration, and self-guided tours.
Great place to visit, plenty of history here.
So much to see and learn about. I plan on going again soon. Great for field trips for young and older. A lot of history in this place. It isn't wheelchair accessible. A lot of stairs and need to lift your feet high in places. The restrooms were clean. The exhibits on the second deck where amazing.
It was a treat to finally visit my grandfather's battleship.
Very cool place if you want to see a little bit of history on the water! Two subs, a Russian boat and a battleship! Can't go wrong with this place! You may ask why a Russian boat? Come and find out, it's actually pretty cool how we got our hands on one! The museum located down the road is really cool as well! Kids are $15 and adults are $25. It's good for two days plus the museum!
Good place for all family
Beautiful memories and sad at the same time but beautiful
Who doesn't love a battleship? C'mon.
Fun, the Massachusetts has a gun cannon at the front on top deck that actually moves the guns up and down while the gun deck rotates. 7-9 year olds loved it, 12 years old weren't as impressed. Scouts can camp overnight. Wear sunscreen, it gets hot.
Spent the night on the ship. The food and the sunset view was worth the price. The other two ships and the submarine was really cool to see and explore.
One of the only surviving battleships in America. The "Big Mamie" is a great museum and a treasured living legend.
Gotta see it. Incredible piece . Everyone should go and witness history
Nice family place great place to walk and enjoy the views
I went here for a field trip in 1975 whene I was 13 and had the best time. Turned me into a history buff and convinced me to join the military and serve my country.
There is plenty of ship to see. The overnight camping was fantastic.
Living history! Excellent for groups.
Took my 4 and a half year old son on the 76th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. He had so much fun exploring and climbing all throughout the many shops on display. I visited as a kid with Boy Scouts and we stayed on board the ship and it is dry much the way I remember it. They have done an excellent job maintaining it. Really a cool day trip and totally worth it to check out.
Awesome. If you like military history this is for you.
Great ship. Great staff. Good time.
AMAZING!
The big surprise pleasure of our New England visit. Our wives were very much impressed with the presentation of the exhibits and the very human core of the information. We enjoyed the full visit during a very wet day. It was a very emotional visit as well as historically interesting.
One of the best museum of Naval power. More mighty then Texas and more ancient then Iowa-class battleships. Also have a lot of delicious bonuses: destroyer, submarine, Soviet-builder East German missile corvette, helicopters, patrol boats etc. For all battleship-lovers - must see.
Went last weekend pretty cool
World War 2 ended, this ship was parked and left almost entirely preserved in its wartime condition. Nearly completely accessible, only a few areas have plexiglass to preserve artifacts/critical systems. Excellent self guided tours, 4 different ones to choose from. The engine room is fascinating in size and scale.
Visited twice as part of USN reunion. Recommend to anyone interesred in history and WW II USN SHIPS.
Battleship Cove is the world's largest collection of warships in a single collection with the Battleship Massachusetts being the main attraction.
Such an amazing place to visit!
Great experience, lots to explore, and multiple vessels!
5 Stars for the ship and the organization of the 4 trails. Very impressive! One star for the restaurant on the ship. Very sloppy frech fries, ugly burger and a long time to wait for it. Additionally absolutly overprized for the quality. Very bad they could do more... I recommend to go not for a snack there... really
Great history, take the time to talk to the volunteers, they served on similar ships and are a great source of information.
Informative, affordable to get in, there's an affordable gift shop, merry go around, snacks. The location is easily accessible by car. The area is very clean and kept up.
Enormous ship great place to bring kids and family.
Great Warship with a great history.
Top place well worth it
This was "so helpful
The only bad thing about this place is that it's very far from us. Otherwise it is a fantastic place to take your kids or enjoy yourselves. Works for all ages!
Self guided tours, small snack food bar, good choice of quick menu items. The history of the ship is well documented.
could spend a month there and not get bored.
Always something new too see, great American history
Very quite and humbling on the USS Massachusetts. USS Lionfish not for claustrophobic.
Excellent place to view a bit of history, but definitely not for those who have a hard time getting around. Crew is always super friendly and I find something new every time I'm there. The food could be better.
A fantastic site. Get up close and see some living history
Fantastic floating Museam. Plan plenty of time to explore!
Plan on a spending about a day there is much to see.
Excellent ship with hours of history to see. Plenty of access to all area of the ship.
Slept overnight on board. Need more coffee though.
My boys had an amazing time! Not too good for toddlers, I seen a few parents struggling so I'm really glad I found a sitter for my little one. It's hands on and a great way to learn. Try not to drag your purse around either if you can help it lol there's a few small spaces. Over all, we absolutely loved it!
I feel that most of the people willing to go and leave a review would enjoy this place if they floated a 1/48 wooden scale model of the USS Massachusetts and called it a heritage site. Well I'm one of those people. It does offer more than that. The approach is reasonably hands off, you wander the boats and read the materials provided. Considering the size of the ships and the narrowness of the passages, I would agree with this approach. You dip in and out of the ships as you need. Not for the claustrophobic or those who overheat easily. I think they could add a better overview of each ship, but I was impressed overall, particularly with the number of displays of related themes (women in war, PT Squadrons, models) with the battleship itself.
I had a lot of fun in this place! If it wasn't for the rain I would have stayed a little bit longer. There are a lot of historical information all around, and there are chutes that you can access and view how the room, the galley, the captain's headquarters, the engineer room, and etc. There is also a gift shop outside where you could buy hats sweaters and other stuff.
Great experience. A great place to take the family.
You have to love these old war ships.
My family and I were recently there for the final reunion for the Crew members. I want to thank all of those that made this such a memorable event for not just the crew members, but also for their family and friends. I hate to mention names out of fear of forgetting someone, but I do want to thank Paula Roy and Susan (don't know her last name) and also Karen from the ship with all her young workers who did a fantastic job! I also would like to thank Bernie S. (Crew Member) for holding this together for all these years. May God Bless him, his family and all the remaining crew members. I hope you will keep the memories of this great ship going on for years to come even though the reunions are finished. May God Bless all of you and may God continue to bless AMERICA! Sincerely, Barbara Kramer daughter of Sylvester "JAKE" Kramer Crew Member from the 6th division
It was a great place to spend time with your family and friends
Very nautical themed museum. If yo like modern naval warfare stuff, this the place.
Spent a weekend aboard. At nite you can hear the ghosts of the men who served aboard her.
It was amazing. Loved all the ships and submarine. Loved how inside the ship their were documentaries about people and what the ship mostly did.
A wonderful piece of our history
Really nice Navy experience. Fun for kids.
It kept my attention for over 5 hours. Sailor's on these ships should all be commend and thanked for their sacerfice. By WDL
If you like history and have pride in this country and those who protect it and the tools they used to do So, The Cove is a must.
I HAVE TO GIVE IT TO THE GREAT STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS FOR PRESERVING BIG MAMMI! TTYEY COULD OF LET HER BECOME SCRAP DECADES AGO BUT THEY REFUSED AND RALLIED TOGETHER AS IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE REMEMBER OUR HISTORY AS IT IS TO THIS DAY THE ONLY REASON WE ARE NOT ALL SOCIALISTS AND COMMUNISTS! TYRANNY IS NOT THE WAY AND THIS IS A PART OF WHY WE ARE STILL SOMEWHAT FREE IN AMERICA! IF YOU ARE IN OHIO THE SCHOOLS DO NOT TEACH HISTORY OF USA BUT YET WE NEED TO BE REMORSEFUL OF EVERYONE ELSES HISTORY OUTSIDE OF AMERICA!
The overnight was amazing my troop had so much fun and the food wasn't too bad either. Wish we could have stayed longer than one weekend.
The wife, and kids who are 7 and 8 loved it.
One of my favorite places to visit. Be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours. The exhibits are excellent!
Awesome experience. You will feel like a movie.
Great exp.
Enjoyed the day with the grand youngins
Love it here! It's so much fun to explorr!
Awesome experience, going into the lower decks of the battleship as well as climbing around on top. Our 4 year old daughter loved it too! Don't miss the carousel as well.
Great place to see a battleship, a destroyer, and submarine all in one stop. The self guided tour on the battleship could be a little easier to follow, but we like to wander around.
Really nice.
Amazing sight to see. What's great is that you have access to most of the ship so you can really see how life was on the ship
Kids had a great time. Highly recommended!
Really cool and interesting place. Kids loved exploring the 4 vessels in the Shipyard. Not sure if the vessels had this “old smell” to it or if it was the asbestos that we inhaled and smelled. Whichever, nice experience overall.
One of the most interesting experiences of my life. If you love history, this is for you...
This is an educational but fun trip! You go all through the ship to see how the soliders lived. I would really recommend this place.
Boy scout overnight. Fun! I didn't wash my jacket for the longest time... It picked up that bunker oil smell from the ship. "You smell that, son? Smells like.... Victory!"
Pretty fun venue for kids who are interested in the military and history buffs. Lots of climbing if you want to explore between decks, so be aware if you find ladders a challenge.
Its sad we don't have any more the battle ships seid to the world no America s power that no other war ships can do
Amazing place. You can't help but appreciate what our servicemen had to endure.
Very interesting. We were able to explore most areas of both ships and the sub. Great for the kids as well
Fascinating interactions with some of the most important moments in history throughout: WWII, the Cold War, the Kennedy legacy, America's 20th century industrial might. Friendly (and kid-friendly) staff and a beautifully restored carousel next door. A great day with young kids at a place that might seem to cater to older visitors. Highly recommended.
This is worth the three hour drive for me. Would go more often if I could.
Very informative! My 5 year old son loved it!!!
Fantastic appreciation for what our service men did to safeguard our freedom
Me and several friends drove here and spent time at all of the ships, thoroughly enjoying ourselves the whole time.
Battleships are awesome, this one is definitely worth the visit.
Great option for a small road trip
Very much enjoyed the self guide tour. Lots of information about numerous items and events that took place aboard here in her glory days.
Interesting way to spend an afternoon. Not for the claustrophobic
Super cool
Thought we could only walk the deck and would be there about an hour. This was awesome! We walked all over all the ships. Spent all morning there. If you like warships this place is a must see!
Always a great time!
Great museum a lot of history, my grandfather Julius L. Langley was on this ship
I was lucky enough to do a Living History event and stayed aboard the Massachusetts. Staff was wonderful. Displays are dated and getting shabby, but the accommodations were clean and comfortable (ish!) Can't wait to do it again.
The battle ship is so much fun to explore!
I have been there many times, the ship it's self (USS Mass.) Has a lot of history in her, from her training mission to her last mission. Though it is a little sad that she only has 4-5 of her oerlikon mounts left (probably because the Navy took them before the was un-mothballed) the ship is still a sight to see and be on.
Great piece of history!
A great day out, it would have been nice to go up higher but still very interesting
The boat was big.
We went with my son boys scout troop. We learned so much about this wonderful ship. We did the Nautical nights where we slept on the ship for the night. We liked it so much my son wants to go again next year. You learn so much about these old ships. We loved our movie presentation that answered all of our questions about this amazing ship. The staff here goes above and beyond. And the food was great too.
Navel history is incredible.
Very cool way to spend a Saturday. Lots of history and so much to see. We thought we were touring the USS Massachusetts only and were happy to find out there are 4 different vessels to walk through. Kid and family friendly. There is a lot of walking if you plan to tour all 4.
Great ship to explore
It's a great place for all ages
Wonderful experience! Plan on several hours or a whole day. There is a lot to see. You will need to be able to go up and down ladders and steps. Also, no backpacks are allowed so just leave them in the car. This would be good for school age children and up. It would be hard to lift small children up and over doors and there are hazards for them.
Big Mamie was my favorite one of all the ships!
It was almost as awesome as it was as a kid. The only thing that saddens me is the material state of all the boats. It is looking like a serious overall is needed.
Love it, great value, great for kids, hands on and unplugged.
Big Mami lives on!
