This Museum corresponds to the category of History museum.
On our trip to Boston we started at the USS Constitution Museum. My boys like to complete the Junior Ranger program implemented by the National Parks Service. We were able to receive the booklets at the information desk from the USS Constitution Museum. We watched the informative video on the history of the dry dock as well as the USS Constitution. The boat itself was great to walk through. It was amazing to see how small the boat is compared to how many men lived, worked and slept on the boat while it was in service. This is a great place to visit in Boston. We were able to find street parking around the Museum without a problem.
Not the kind of place you would go more than once necessarily. But very cool. and where else can you go in Boston for free? Parking wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be, the ship was really cool, and the museum was somewhat interesting with a pay-what-you-can fee. Also the world war 2 era ship across the dock was really interesting.
Awesome historical ship. The Naval crew on board were informative and were able to explain about the life aboard the USS Constitution. The museum was interesting as well and admission is by donation only.
This place was fantastic! I enjoyed learning about life on the ship. They had a lot of displays allowing the kids to experience first hand the different jobs that used to be performed by the sailors while on duty.
Great history. Interactive enough to give kids something to do.
Although it's simple enough that a child could understand it, or at least a junior higher, it was still interesting enough for adults.
So amazing. So great that this part of our heritage has been preserved. Cant wait to return.
A national treasure not to be missed if you are visiting Massachusetts. Free admission (donations are accepted) easy convenient parking, friendly people.
Closed on Mondays. Beautiful ship and go through the museum first.
I have visited the USS Constitution a few times. It is such an amazing piece of history! Touring the ship is like taking a step back in time. If you love history, this is an Boston attraction not to be missed. On one of my visits, I happened to be the 1,000,000th visitor! I was treated to a special guided tour of the ship, lunch with the captain and crew as well as having my picture, taken at the helm with the captain, in the paper. What a great experience for a college kid!
Must be the most important part about it in the world and the food is not just about it
I learned so much here. This really is an engaging museum.
Always wanted to go there. Not a disappointment at all.
good museum, and also near the museum there is a promenade with a beautiful view of the city!
If you have kids, see it. While "free" donations strongly encouraged, to point of feeling mandatory. Had I realized it was so kid oriented we would not have visited.
Great free museum. Donations are requested. Well set up to engage all ages. Interactive. You learn a lot about ship building and the War of 1812.
Unfortunately I couldn't get any closer than this. They were not very accommodating. I enjoyed my trip to Boston very much. Because I am disabled I could not get to really see it
This donate what you can afford entrance is a great musuem for children. It has a lot of hands on activities for children that help them contextualize the content. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable. The exhibits were relevant and well maintained. This was a much better way to understand this history than the national park nearby
First off the museum is free (donation encouraged). The ship is amazing. The museum it's self is ok, but geared towards little ones. It has some neat interactive exhibits. The sailors on the ship are knowledgeable, and professional. There are some amazing models in the museum if you like that kind of thing. I was there for about an hour, and feel like I saw everything I wanted to.
Good history. Very well explained. Would sail against the Barbary pirates again.
The Museum has free admission just like the ship itself but donations are welcome. I love the interactive nature of some of the exhibits which keeps you engaged through, it even got the attention of my 11 year old! I would consider coming back again here since I learnt so much about the War of 1812 and the major role the Constitution played.
Fun for everyone! Amazing history and truly one of a kind. You wont find this anywhere else in the world. The museum is great for kids while still providing adults a great experience.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. All was enjoyed by the Grands and grandkids alike.
Absolutely amazing museum next to the USS Constitution. Definitely geared towards kids but just as interesting for adults. So many hands on exhibits and activities, it's impossible to get bored. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable. And it's free!! A no brainner for anyone visiting the are with kids and an interest in history!
Wow wow! The hands on experience in the upper level kept both myself and my 6 year old entertained for over an hour. Very informative and very well executed.
This warship brings you into the times when men and woman had to work very hard in 1900.The woodwork construction of the boat will blow your mind as their skills are very evident in every detail. The boat is free tour. You can get to this part of boston by river taxi from the aquirium locationThe old docks area is all free and children will enjoy.shmo
This museum is free! The ship is awesome and you get to go on it for free. This whole place was way better than we anticipated and now recommend it to everyone. You can go below deck on the ship and check out all the cannons and living quarters. This is the oldest ship that is still commissioned. The museum is very interesting and informative. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Did I mention that this is free! After you’re done here walk across the pier and you can get on a World War II destroyer (also free). It’s really interesting to see the difference back to back.
Awesome piece of US history, make sure to get the guided tour to get lots of interesting facts.
Very cool. USS Constitution is in great shape.
Beautiful historic naval vessel. Going aboard is free. Security check.
Excellent. Worth a visit from a historical and physical experience. Board the ship and explore the decks below. A good half day visit.
Such a fun experience for the kids and adults. The walk through have such a realistic feeling of how it was during that time.
The USS Constitution is just a great piece of history you can actual walk through and get the feel of the time.
Neat hands on Museum. You could spend all day here if you love Museums. We went on a day that the ship wasn't open and were with a group of very worn out friends. It isn't exactly a place to stop at the end of walking the freedom trail all day. I was intrigued by the little bit of the museum we did go through and it is something I want to spend time at if I ever get to visit Boston again. They also have a nice gift shop where we purchased a few trinkets.
To go to this museum is really great, see how the battles of this great battle ship were fought, how people of that time lived, worked and served our great country. The USS CONSTITUTION is truly a great place to visit, and learn about history. Charlestown is full of history its a great place to visit, don't miss out on it. Bring plenty of water and your best walking shoes. Peace and fun to all.
If you like tall ships this was the one that defended our country!
It is a pretty amazing to her if you take the time 2 talk to the folks on board, the question start to write themselves. The idea that so many people congregating under the top deck is canon we're firing is almost hard to wrap your head around. The visitor center associated with the tour is fantastic and quite interactive. It even allows you to digitally build your own sailing vessel and salad into a battle. The replica is fantastic. This is a no-brainer if you are in the area
You must visit this. Walk the decks of a ship almost as old as our nation. Speak to the sailors who still sail the ocean. Learn the history of one of the oldest boats still floating.
This place was kid friendly, only had common rules to keep you safe. Very historical place for kids and adults. The staff was very helpful and nice. Cost no money, just your ID to get in.
Kid friendly, interactive, fun. New exhibits and fun Lego activity.
We enjoyed the tour and museum during our visit to Boston.
This place is well done. Lots of educational activiti for kids to learn about the boat, the war of 1812 and the many people involved in both.
This museum is great, our family spent about an hour, but easily could have spent more time. Very kid/family friendly. I would recommend visiting the museum before the ship if you have kids so they have more context when they are exploring the ship.
Great ship. Wonderful staff. The staff tell war stories on board. Our speaker was Tom Cruze (that is his name) he told a story about a battle off the Brazilian coast that was fascinating.
The history of Old Inronsides is incredible! Check out the museum!
My daughter and had the privilege of getting a private tour of this magnificent ship by Peter Robbins yesterday. Proud to be a part the US Navy - Peter is one of the men who can take this beautiful ship out of port with a crew of approximately 84. He took us throughout the ship and shared such amazing details that only a knowing eye could share. We never would have embraced the true history of this ship without his knowledge and attention to detail. Thank you Peter for showing us the beauty of the USS constitution and thank you for your service. You gave these two ladies from New York a memory they won’t soon forget !
Cute, hands on museum...didn’t see the boat but I’m sure that would’ve been nice. More of a scene for children I think.
This museum gives a comprehensive history of the warship Constitution which was built in 1797 and has been refurbished multiple times. It’s amazing to see the actual wooden ship which is over 200 years old. From here we walked about 20 minutes to Bunker Hill Monument.
Very nice place to visit. Good exibition, all kind of maritime history. Take some time to explore all. Old docks, ships basically good piece of maritime history. If you have time and interest visit it.
Great museum for the whole family. Something for everyone to enjoy.
The ship itself is free and still under commission by the USN, the museum is amazing and the ship itself has been kept in superb condition for being 222 years old.
Great place to bring Kids or Adults to learn about the USS Constitution and life in her era. Lots of hands on exhibits to stir your interest.
History live and in person! Beautiful attraction with active service members available for discussion! A must see in Boston.
The nonprofit museum is a fabulous wealth of information about Old Ironsides that is entertaining and educational for all ages. The museum curators do an outstanding job of acquiring Constitution artficats. Very much worth a visit in addition to Old Ironsides.
This was our favorite stop on the Freedom Trail! The staff were very kind and accommodating. It was raining, but that did not make this attraction any less fun.
True American history. The ship is well preserved even if about 90% has been replaced over the 200 years it has been in service. Space under the deck is cramped as you can see
Over all nice. Must be into history to appreciate the place.
My wife and I visited in January 2017, and we had a great time. Full of great history, and we got to sign the Copper plating that will be on the bottom of the USS Constitution when they did the refit, cool activity!
Had such a great time here with my family. The employees here were so kind and helpful. If ever in Boston this is a must go to. Very educational too.
I have read some of the other reviews on here and I have absolutely no idea what other people saw that I did not. I saw this as a missed opportunity for education. I saw this as a fantastic piece of history put on display in a way that failed to actually educate. For all intents and purposes the ship is bare It looks almost exactly as it would have looked when it was done being constructed but without any of the artifacts that would have been present when it was in use, safe for the guns. I was honestly expecting more living history to be taking place on board. I was expecting there to be a lot more explanation of the workings of the ship and about life on board an early American naval vessel Instead the decks were empty, probably to make room for all of the people. Even the officers quarters, Which were closed to the public but you could peek in through a window in the door, we’re not set up as they would have been during times of war. It was just an empty room save for a table and a couple chairs. I really feel that a valuable opportunity to educate was missed here. This wasn’t a museum as I understand museums to be. This was an empty ship with a handful of people scattered about who had less than satisfactory answers for questions that I had. I left knowing little more than I knew about the ship prior to stepping on board. In fact the only thing new that I learned was how painfully short the ceilings were below deck for a tall person like me. All that being said I would still recommend going to see it because it is still cool even if you would learn more from a Wikipedia page then you would from actually seeing it.
Interactive museum with lots to do for all ages. The museum is free but asks for a small donation to visit. Glad the USS Constitution is still actively sailing.
Such gr8 history and free with a sugested $10 donation
An amazing experience for the tall ship lover and historian alike. Absolutely awe inspiring to stand aboard this piece of "living" history. A must do for visitors to the Boston area!
A step back into history, although the ships were closed for tours, being able to wander the docks was fascinating. The museum had some really great hands on activities for kids of all ages.
NO PARKING AVAILABLE. Fantastic experience, admission by donation, lots of interactive exhibits for kids, lots of user friendly information and history for adults. The ship itself is closed on Mondays as of this review. Great for families, historians and patriotic Americans.
Always worth a visit. It's free, and an incredible example of shipbuilding! Ole Ironsides might not match up to the warships of today, but I can imagine it being quite the powerhouse back in the 1800s. The tours are great, and the USS Constitution Museum close by is fantastic.
Great experience. Learned a lot. Worth the trip.
Driver and tour guide were great. Our tour guide grew up near Concord, Massachusetts and was passionate about the history of the American Revolution era. Worth every penny and I would reccomend it to any history buff.
An excellent way to see what life was like then. Great, in-depth history of the ship and her crew.
Historical and awesome place to visit. Very friendly.
Cool place, can spend more time learning if it is an area of interest for you. Also can be used as a quick stop or something to do during free time in Boston !
It was nice to see a living piece of history. As an active duty warship still in service to this day I was amazed at how well it has been maintained. It's still sea worthy after more than 250 years of military service.
I didn't regret visiting this site today. It's a great place to be. I enjoyed the view of the gigantic ships and the historical records in the museum.
Awesome place, it's for free and it's really good !
Com. John Benda was a great host!
The oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy. Fun to explore, and the museum across the way is very informative. Fun for all ages.
Lovely historical museum. Important to our nations education, the amount of kids there warmed my heart. The sailor led tour was educational and fun. If you happen to be there at sunset or sunrise you can watch them shoot the canon :)
The Museum is awesome. The ship, however, is even better! A fabulous piece of American history, still seaworthy and robust. Well worth the time. Plus it's free.
Lots of fun to wander around the ship, and ask questions, listen to the cadets tell stories.
Really good museum for children. Good mix of interactive, relatable information.
It is a very fun museum to take people to who are visiting Boston. The best part is that the entrance is donation based. The ships are really cool to look at, and inside the museum there are games for kids and adults.
A great attraction to take people from out of town. The staff was super helpful, and it was free to enter. I found some good postcards for my Navy dad. Great for families as well. Just be aware that the ceilings are a bit low and that there are some steep stairs.
Old Ironsides is a national treasure, but it is the active duty crew that really brings the ship to life. They have the history and origin of each part of ship in their heads, and are more than happy to share their knowledge. The museum itself is very well done as well, and has much to offer.
The ship is finished and I couldn't be prouder. A fine ship she is.
My favorite part of the freedom trail, to be able to touch and walk on the deck of arguably the greatest warship of its time, to see the conditions our sailor endured was inspiring!
Was a great ship to visit history and to see how sailors lived and fought was so cool
Very very interesting. Thank you.
This place is great. This ship is amazing and the museum tops off the experience. The staff is helpful and extremely informative. Loved spending time here and would recommend to everyone.
Amazing place to visit and I was soooooo proud of the young Sailors onboard level of knowledge on Old Iron Sides history. If you have ever considered going to visit the USS CONSTITUTION, consider no more it is a most see while in Boston. Thank you to the amazing young Sailors for giving us such an amazing tour and thank you for the USS CONSTITUTION's Chief Mess for hosting SEA Class 226.
We went during the government shutdown by accident. Not sure if our experience was much different. (: oops.
Amazing ship with lots of history. The museum next store is great for kids.
wife and i walked in to Museum 1-26-19 around 10 am had a great time took lots of pics great and Super friendly staff will return again also went on the boat lots fun navy personal was so friendly This museum is free! The ship is awesome and you get to go on it for free. This whole place was way better than we anticipated and now recommend it to everyone. You can go below deck on the ship and check out all the cannons and living quarters. This is the oldest ship that is still commissioned. The museum is very interesting and informative. Do yourself a favor and check it out. we will Recommend this 100% and WE WILL RETURN After you’re done here walk across the pier and you can get on a World War II destroyer (also free). It’s really interesting to see the difference back to back.
Very cool! Great place for the family. Very kid friendly.
A must visit in Boston. Last point of the Freedom Trail at Boston. Can we reached by waterways too. A fascinating insight into this US Navy ship which is now a museum. Navy personnel will show you around one you are inside. Nice to see how well it's maintained. Fascinating visit
Wanted to see this, but trying to find parking and walking how far when we did with older people was not the best idea..... Sad to miss the experience but got to see it as a drive by.....☹️
An incredible restored historic ship that has no equal! The super nice crew provides a great experience!
Definitely worth the visit. Free but I made a donation. Learned about tacking into the wind, materials, sail deployment, meals and got to lay in a bunk bed for the first time in my life.
Nice place to see history and talk to some sailors. It is very clean and very good
Great piece of history...the sailors on board were helpful, polite and a joy to be around.
What a beautiful ship! It's free to tour the ship! A must see for everyone!
Quite an awesome place. Lots of history and people that can explain things. You get to walk around some large ships!
Loved seeing the old ship and fellow Navy personnel. Free for military and $10 - $15 for civilian adults. Very clean and orderly.
Nice little museum, interactive, good for family and is by donation
Great history, can see " Old Ironsides" at the dock. Have to show drivers license to get aboard to security. Great gift shop. Interesting Info in museum. Good for kids slso.
Definitely one of the best places to go for a free and fun time. Family fun, and safe for all ages. Parking can be tricky, but overall a great time. And you can see the oldest ship in the U.S. Navy that's still active!
Excellent place to visit. So much history and activities to see and do. Gift shop for souvenirs. Take the time to go here. Donations accepted for entry. Worth the trip.
This is a must see. The USS Constitution is amazing. You can go on board and even two levels below deck.
What a great step back in history! 2nd floor of museum is designed for kids, awesome.
Very enjoyable and educational. We had a great time.
One of my favorite Boston landmarks. Whenever, we have guests from out of town at our restaurant, I recommend they visit the USS Constitution.
Great spot for kids and all navy fans to roam around. Being on USS constitution is a must. Everyone super friendly. Need to get the detroyer opened up ASAP as boys very disappointed they couldn't go on it. Also a few more interactive things to do would be great. Overall great time!
Takes you back in time. Interesting to see such an old, historic, and beautiful ship. Also a gift shop and more in the area.
Very cool, informative every time I visit. May be boring for 3 under but 4 up will love the cannons and ships. Other then that fun for everyone.
Great museum for kids and adults alike. Lots of hands-on exhibits.
A must see for children and for history bluffs. Expect to spend about 2 to 4 hours. Be sure to ask questions of the various people supporting the ship and the museum. Be sure to bring a photo id.
So nice to See history! My wife's a foreigner, and was intrigued by the Oak ship! Great time, great history.
This is a pretty cool stop if you are hanging out in Boston. Interactive activities in the museum, the oldest ship in the Navy, and some exposure to some history. Don't go on Mondays or Tuesdays - the ship is closed.
Pretty cool. Free to visit but bring your ID. You need it to get in. No strollers allowed.
oh my gosh it was so fun and amazing and so interesting. If your in Boston definitely visit this. It's one of the most in-depth and interesting museum and it is a must see if you have children.
Awesome place! You can enter free after a security check and enjoy the time travel to experience the life of marines in the 18th and 19th century with the help of dressed in professionals. It is a must if You really love old warships and old sea warfare.
The ship itself is in Tip-Top shape. They've done a fantastic job of preserving this piece of history. However prepare to go through basically " airport " type security. Not that there's anything wrong with that in of itself . Security does a great job of moving people. Just a sad testament to the times we live . And of course the gift shop is loaded with cheap , overpriced stuff. Should have researched the parking a little bit better. The park ranger inside the gift shop will validate your parking ticket provided you are in the designated parking lot . ( not all surrounding parking lots offer that discount ) There's a museum across the way but we didn't have time to check it out. Once we found out what we're paying for parking decided to get out of there. ( although the museum has a better gift shop )
What a great experience and piece of history to learn about. The staff consists of U.S. Navy Sailors who learn the history and traditions of the USS Constitution. If your military, this would be a great way to learn about where some of the traditions in the military come from. Especially for you Marines and Sailors. Come prepared to take pictures but carry as little as possible. Tight spaces and steep stairs. It is a ship. Enjoy.
Check one off the bucket list. This is one of the great attractions I have ever visited. The museum is great for all ages and really well set up. The ship is even greater than you can imagine. Perfectly restored and maintained. The Navy crew is genuinely glad to serve aboard her. Really helpful and available. Please see this and bring your kids
Great museum! Displays are interactive and very well done. Easily accessible and comfortable. Great for kids, and adults alike. Very informative and spans the entire history as well as some general sailors history as well.
A must see when your nearby. It has great historic facts to be shared. It’s so beautiful and pristine from inside. I loved hearing about the boat and it’s fame- that I knew nothing of. The site around it is so beautiful also.
It's a great exhibit and glad they have restored a ship that explains the naval history at that time. The crew is very helpful and friendly on the ship.
Step back in history, loved my time on the ship!
It's the USS Constitution, what else do you need. It is a beautifully preserved piece of history. No cost to go in, just make sure to have a valid ID. It is still a commissioned ship in the US Navy, so there is an ID check and baggage check.
Beautiful ship. So grateful that our nation is preserving this part of its heretage.
The ship is incredible. The museum is very interactive and kid friendly. Plus its admission by donation!
Very worthwhile stop in Boston. This ship is a must see. Be sure to chat with the sailors aboard. I will definitely visit again.
So cool and informative! Very kid/family oriented.
All the sailors were really knowledgeable and patient when asked a million silly questions. Don't forget to buy a ships coin! It's a good one.
Admission is free, with donations encouraged so it's within price range for everyone. The museum is highly interactive and engaging. There's also opportunity to actually go into the U.S.S.Constitution boat, which is definitely neat.
A wonderful adjunct to the adjacent USS CONSTITUTION, the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat. The museum has a lot of great scholarship, with amazing facts and objects for interested adults, and wonderful and engaging interactive display which will keep kids engaged...and learning....for hours!
Security checkpoint was very quick and easy. Navy personnel were all friendly and helpful. Ship was very interesting. Despite some sections closed off for unknown reasons, it was a cool experience, especially below deck. Not much to do aside from look and listen but admission is also free. Easily a quick impulse destination as long as there are no large groups. Also an amazing piece of US naval history.
This is a great place to visit with the family. It is also free so it's the cheapest site seeing you can do in boston
Free! My husband did a model ship of this and was stoked to go see the real USS Constitution. It was really hot when we went but still enjoyed being able to walk on and below deck. Plenty of crew around to keep people in check.
Wow great place to spend the day.
An absolute must to experience if in the area. The museum is done incredibly well, kid focused (but plenty for adults to stay engaged), and filled with a great staff. Once complete, don’t pass on a chance to walk around the actual ship and experience history first hand.
YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH A METAL DETECTOR AND ADULTS NEED ID!! The displays and ship were cool and the staff were friendly - except the security checkpoint people who were gruff. I question the fiscal decision to keep this ship commissioned and have active duty military personnel working as tour people. Their job could be handled well by National Park Service and lower cost.
A great supplement to a visit to the ship. Activities for kids and adults. “Build” a ship at the projection table and fight other ships and sink as many as you can. Great gift shop and friendly staff to answer all your questions. Bathrooms and easy access to all areas of the museum.
My son loves all types of battleship. So we stop by here while traveling Boston. It was quite impressive and very well maintained ship museum. Highly recommend. 보스턴에 여행중이라면 들러볼만한 배박물관입니다.
Learned so much and even got to engrave my name onto a ship (don’t worry, it was by the staff)
A good experience to see a ship from back in the times. BTW this is one of the few attraction that is free admission.
Awesome place to visit. If you're military you can get a private tour below decks. Come by and pick up some challenge coins for the family.
Great place except for the fact that you can't take pictures. I could understand not using flash
It was wonderful seeing old Ironside that I heard about in history. Fabulous
Nice ship below deck is very low ceilings great for shorter people bad for tall people
Very nice for children but limited material for adults. Ship is separate from the museum and is more exciting to see. However staff is very nice and helpful.
Very cool old ship. Still active, and sailed regularly by the USN.
This is a must see. The USS Constitution is amazing. You can go on board and even two levels below deck. The service men who were on board were very friendly and knowledgeable and shared a lot of really cool insights with us. Definitely a must see, and it's completely free to tour.
A wonderful experience. The staff are very well informed and friendly.
Amazing ship with great talks given by our active Navy sailors currently serving on her. The museum has very interesting and interactive displays that children will really enjoy.
There are two boats available for touring, one the USS Constitution and the other a World War II vessel. The Navy has Personnel on board both boats 2 help with questions. You do not need to go to the USS Constitution Museum in order to board the boats. However the museum, which is not large, does give you an appreciation of the War of 1812 and the role that the USS Constitution played. The small Naval Museum, that is free to enter, has a small exhibit on the Charleston naval yards. This is worth taking a few minutes to review. Though this venue is quite a distance from Central Boston it is well worth the trip.
The USS Constitution is not just a Boston treasure, she is a national treasure. This old girl it is a delight to see, and be onboard. The history of this vessel is incredible, as you tour it, you can actually feel the energy that resonates into the very soul of the wood. You can almost understand what the mindset of the people were when you look at the names of each of the cannons, because every cannon on that vessel is named. You will never forget the moment you step on the USS Constitution, it will never leave you. It is a true delight!
This is so cool. The ship is an amazing piece of our history and I am so glad we came. Shout out to the personal stationed there.
A great place where history comes a live. One can learn much there.
