REVIEWS OF The House of the Seven Gables IN Massachusetts

Johnathan Farrington

This was a huge surprise! I expected this to be sorta a let down but it was a phenomenal experience. The history of the house, and the tour, is phenomenal. Definitely a must see when in Salem! Wouldn't go if I had kids under 13 as they would probably be bored. But other than that all ages groups should check this out!

Dana Kelly-Love

I had my dream come true vow renewal here and can’t recommend it enough! Yes the place is clearly beyond gorgeous—inside and out—but the event staff helped make things perfect. Deb was FANTASTIC and so laid back w/helping me secure my special day. She even pulled out “extras” when we did photography inside the house which helped make beautiful pictures even better. Very grateful for everything!

Rachel Murphy

The tour was very interesting and well laid out. Must remember the houses are hundreds of years old and were built differently. Gets a touch cramped if you're tall but not for very long. The grounds are gorgeous and it's worth it for the view alone. Would recommend reading the book prior to visiting, makes it more fun.

Kait Estrella

The tour guide we had was amazing. I can't remember his name, but he was fantastic. We absolutely loved the atmosphere. The garden and houses are gorgeous. Their gift shop is so quaint and adorable. All in all, awesome. Wonderful historical tour. My future husband and I really hope to have our wedding there someday.

Anna Tate

Our tour guide was awesome and it was really cool to see all of the doors in the house. There were many hidden doors throughout the house. If you are claustrophobic, the stairs might be hard for you to use so may want to debate coming. Other than that, it was amazing!

Mark Aloysius

Our tour guide was knowledgable and friendly. We enjoyed our experience. Our favourite part was the very steep (but fun) secret staircase.

Dan Keizer

We took the tour and our guide, I think her name was Elizabeth, was friendly and knowledgeable. The house and the grounds had a lot of interesting and unique things to see.

Lydia Walker

Gorgeous view! Was disappointed they loved this maxing house from its original location but the history and view is gorgeous. Nice gift shop and tour is fun.

Andrew Westrick

Very busy (as expected), interesting tour and tour-guide, expected a little more detail for the entry fee though

Joanne Chaplin

This was a really interesting place to visit -- and, yes, I went down the hidden staircase!

Sharon Yarnell

It was very interesting, even though I have not read the book inspired by the house. Lots of history there.

Avery Schneider

An excellent way to see a very interesting piece of history. Our guide was Michael and he gave a very good tour.

Carla Kooij

Beautiful gardens and the house guides were great explaining the whole history of the house and the many people who owned it and renovated it.

Brandy Anglin

Very historical and very much loved it & hope to return to see it again... So much history around the whole area! Wish I could move there! Salem, it felt more home, than my home... so many vibes, spiritual vibes etc! Recommended to SO MANY!!! Luv Ya Salem!!!

Adam Esch

Great tourbof the house especially if you like the book.

Vivian Dulce

It's a historic house. The guide was very informative. The kids and i loved the secret passages. Stairwells tight, roofs low. Cute area for pics. Small cute gift shop. Military discount

Megan Sim

Where do I begin? My friend and I went to tour Seven Gables this past Tuesday for the 10:50 am tour with Michael. He was absolutely fantastic! So genuine, friendly, personable, and an expert on the Seven Gables and its history! I’ve got to say this was the best tour and tour guide I have ever had. This was our favorite part of our trip in Salem! I recommend that anyone who visits or lives near Salem to visit here at least once! And a big thanks and appreciation to our tour guide, Michael! I could not recommend this enough!

Sarah Leonard

Very beautiful home. Tour was nice. Guide seemed a little rehearsed tho. Didnt know answers unless memorized.

Don Knight

Worth every dollar. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Awesome house!

Nicholas Mertens

A must do in Salem and well worth the cost of admission which includes great views of the harbor and a few other historical houses. FYI, the house isn't in it's original condition but has been modified to resemble the book (makes it more interesting in my opinion).

Owen Cole

We definitely have to go back. Time was definitely a factor.

Kyle Rumbaugh

This was the best tour we had while in Salem. We showed up at last minute and they gladly let us in for a tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and didn't rush through it she even stayed over a bit to talk to be and my dad highly recommend going. Also the garden in the center is amazing and if you go you might see the neighbors cat the walks around

Joan Stearns

Very interesting tour. Learned many new things. There are some steps in the house.

Svetlana Kapitonova

Like such historic places, with their secret rooms and weird construction.

Teresa Tysinger

An absolute gem of Salem! Made famous as the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel of the same name, you don't have to have read the book to appreciate this place. Our tour guide expertly delved into the real-life story of the house, it's importance as an example of Salem's history, and architectural significance. Be sure to also visit Hawthorne's birth home and the gift shop also on property. This house's position right on the water provides a perfect glimpse of the beauty of Salem!

Dan Fionte

The House of Seven Gables is a classic tourist spot in Salem, Massachusetts. Like many of Salem's attractions it based largely on fiction, but unlike other Salem attractions the fiction is legitimate American literature, by one of America's greatest author's, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Also unlike Salem's other attractions it has little to do with witches, although the story features a dire curse. The museum is interesting because it is both a historical home (and there are several other homes which have been moved to the site so you get to tour multiple buildings) and a fictional one. The home originally belonged to a merchant family, and Nathaniel Hawthorne visited the house many times in his youth and it inspired him to write the story but he added architectural features which the house did not have, like a shop on the first level, and a secret passage, which were added by later owners to turn a historical home into one of fiction. So the museum is fascinating as it has legitimate history, but also some interesting modern "gimmicks" but ones which are visually important to the setting of the story. Suffice to say you learn a lot, and I've enjoyed the tour multiple times, and if you enjoy gardens and architecture it's as wonderful from the courtyard as it is from the inside.

old cyclist

Very interesting tour. Our guide really knew the subject and answered questions well. Either he was giving an unusually detailed tour or the one following us was too brief because they were waiting on us to leave the last couple of rooms.

Doug Devitt

Honestly, I've never read the book, but even if you have zero interest in literature, this house is a nice place to visit. The tours give a good overview of the history specific to the house, and cover some architectural history too, which is especially nice if you're less into the literary side of things. Aside from that, the views across the water are great, and there are adjacent sites covering Nathaniel Hawthorne, with some historical demonstrations to go along. Not a bad spot overall.

Kem Barnett

Definitely a must-see on your trip to Salem take the tour because the information was abundance I wish I could have taken photos for you but I put them right on Facebook it was that beautiful

Nicki Nevells

Great tour. Very educational.

Caren Hines

Our Story teller was really good at explaining the history of the house.

g oChristopher Gessling

The grounds were beautiful. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly.

Suellen Sickles

Went on tour on 6/30/19 @ 11:50. We were very excited to go and learn the history of the 7 gables. However our tour was overshadowed by our unprofessional tour guide. At one point during the tour the guide made a girl of about 10 years old cry because she leaned against the wall then sat on floor. In front of 18 other people he called her out, scolding her that the floor was dirty and to stand up. He even stated that if she wasn't feeling well she should hv told him. This made it very uncomfortable for all the people there touring. Defiantly not a kid friendly tour. Not sure if this guide was having a bad day but he defiantly made it an unpleasant experience.

A. Rose

Interesting and very beautiful. The gardens are incredible and the history portion was very informative. The guides did a great job.

S Smith

My sister and I had the pleasure of visiting the House of Seven Gables and it was such a wonderful experience! Our tour guide was very interesting and knowledgeable and made the tour of the house even more enjoyable. The house itself was very interesting and it was amazing to see how well preserved it is. The house contains so many amazing features and it was very intriguing learning about the entire history of the property and the various owners. The gardens surrounding the property are so beautiful, as is the view of the ocean and all the boats. I felt the entrance fee was very reasonable and the money is used for a great cause, so it was worth it. I would highly recommend others to visit the House of Seven Gables!

Michael Rodriguez

We got to climb the secret staircase (!!!) and explore the House of the Seven Gables from top to bottom. Our tour guide, Lily, was knowledgeable and SO amusing, fantastically dry humor. We were either oohing and aahing, or laughing, the whole time. Such a great experience.

Kim Mantz

I've taken many groups of friends and relatives from around the country to the House of Seven Gables and it's always been a pleasure to visit. Enjoyed the new opened portions of the house. Great tour guide as well, as always.

M Lincoln

Loved this place. The grounds were beautiful, the house is amazing looking and the staff are very friendly.

Dylan St. Clair

Preserved and teaches the history of the area, the house, the owners, and the book. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and offer great historical insights and facts. It's has a beautiful garden is a great oceanside view.

Jon Koederitz

An interesting tour of an interesting house. I wish I had a secret staircase in my house. The architecture and bones of the house as well as it's sorted past made for an enjoyable 45 minutes in Salem.

ellen comstock

Really cool house and history. Can't wait to read the book.

Emily Morgan

The house itself is not handicap accessible. The tour was informative but most likely wouldn't spend the money for it again. Tall people would have a hard time due to low ceiling. Also feeble bodies or those afraid of the small spaces would have a hard time in the secret stair case. The view on the lawn over looking the harbor was pretty.

Rick Haffner

The House and grounds are spectacular, as are the docents and tour guides. Well worth the admission fee. The staircase is real and you will climb it!

Terry McDonald

Very interesting and good tour guide. Don't miss the secret staircase.

Heather Ockler

What a wonderful historical site. The tour guide was informative. Lovely home, beautifully restored. Thank you!

Jona Schweinberg

Our tour guide was knowledgeable. The tour might have been better with a few more bits of the novel woven in.

Barbara Godin

Friendly and helpful staff to greet you as we entered ticket area and gift shop. Connie was a knowledgeable and very pleasant tour guide who gave us great details and answered our questions. Several buildings to explore on the property. Great view of the bay. Lots of parking. Restrooms clean as well as the entire property. Babs

Matt Gray

Great tour, and funny. Nice gift shop too. Still not sure why this place is so attractive and has an aura of such importance. I guess it's mostly the book. Some interesting history but nothing too crazy.

Jennifer L

My favorite stop in Salem! The tour guide (a short girl with blonde & teal hair (currently)) was informative and engaging. And the house is very interesting and fun to see!

Rachel B

I've been to the house twice. This past time I took a friend with me and we were absolutely delighted to have James (I believe his name was) as our tour guide. He had my friend and I in stitches by the time the tour ended. The delivery of information plus humor was gold. I hope someone did straighten that portrait in the formal dining room. This is my favorite stop in Salem.

Lyn Pollan

I was only able to see from the outside of the fences. The house itself is inside a fence behind another building. They close at 5 on the dot. It was nice from what I could see.

Kathi Adams

The best place I have been to. It is so beautiful. The history of this place is amazing! The tour guide was excellent and gave us the best tour and was so informative. Highly recommend that you stop and see this Historical place.

Kathy

Very good tour!! Our guide Danielle was interesting and knowledgeable. Learned a lot of history and info about the house and Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Chad Zepeda

Fascinating attraction. The museum takes good care of the property and the tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This was the highlight of our trip to Salem. Highly recommend!

M Clark

Pretty cool place to visit if you're a fan of book

Jessica Buker-Vincent

A lovely day to visit with the lilacs in bloom. We had a wonderful tour guide who well explained the history of the house in its three incarnations, without leaving out the gritty ugly history details about indenture and slavery.

Donna Laferriere

This was a nice guided tour that took you through most of the house while giving background information. There were some surprises that made the experience that much more fun.

Mo Rosen

Very cool place of history. The tour was informative and interesting. Was definitely a plus to have an easy going tour guide with a healthy sense of humor.

Jude Warner

Adam our guide was fantastic. Fun with lots of knowledge. It shows how much he loves his job. The house was amazing. A true gem on the east coast.

Alexis US

This is a great place to visit to learn about wealthy colonial living. With a library discount, a family of 4 gets in for $25. The tours are about 40 minutes and they take you through the house. Much of the house and items are original, which is amazing. My 8-13 year olds came and went interested, but younger kids may get bored.

Douglas Wilfong

Really good tour. Last about an hour, and you see all kinds of cool things in the house ... secret passages and period furnishings. Well worth it.

Malinda Wright

Fun to one of the oldest houses in Boston and visually see the setting of one of the great classic novels!

Mona ASSAF

It was quite a unique experience to visit one of the oldest standing houses in the US. The guide was excellent. The stories associated with the house are thrilling. The secret staircase is one of a kind. The location (so close to the ocean) and the scenery are remarkable.

Dr. Cynthia Stein

The guide was great, and the house was interesting. The most interesting part to me was the original attic. The only reason I am not rating the house 5-star was because Nathaniel Hawthorne never actually lived in the house, and much of the house had been redone in the early 20th century with wallpaper and furniture that was either a reproduction or original to Hawthorne's era but was not original to the house itself.

Crystal Buckman

Great tour guide! Very patient and knowledgeable.

Katie Prescott

Will is an excellent tour guide! This house has such a rich history and I highly recommend it!

Jen George

The place is gorgeous and the tour guides really know what they are talking about!

Cleber Galvao-Penick

Great tour. Very well preserved house. Beautiful garden.

Veronica Aberle

,It was a fun tour our guide James, was knowledgeable and engaging drawing us all in to the history and secrets of the house and it's famous residents. All the furniture is period and original. The gardens are lovely.

Jennifer Hull

What a wonderful surprise to find this historic location on our impromptu vacation. A definite must see for all fans of history and literature.

Jupiter R

We were close to skipping out on this, but I’m beyond happy we didn’t. It’s a great visit, even if you have aren’t very familiar with Nathaniel Hawthorne. Furthermore, this was by far the best tour we did while in Salem. Our tour guide, James, was fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, and passionate about the history. It was easy for everyone on the tour to become engaged and listen to everything he went through, for he found a way to interweave the information with comedy while making sure his passion for the subject shined through.

Marti Coogan

Beautiful garden area in a nice town. Worth the visit.

Eric Peterson

A very fascinating museum featuring not only the famous house but also Nathaniel Hawthorne's home which was moved to this location. Our tour guide was entertaining and informative.

Bianca S

Very fun experience and lots of interesting historical facts. Both me and my husband enjoyed the guided tour. At the end you are able to do your own self guided tour which was also fun. The houses are well kept.

John Drolet

I have been here several times and the experience is great. It seems like you learn something new every time. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to know more about history.

tazzie 759

Very interesting and learned alot about the time period.

Gennifer Cooper

Really nice house tour. Had an unexpected secret path that we really enjoyed.

Kathie Kelly

Fascinating history. Entrance feed go to a good cause. Worth a visit even if you are not interested in Hawthorne but just want to get a better feel for the architecture of the period.

Mary ann DePasquale

We had a fantastic speaker. She was knowledgeable,! She took her time.

Matthew Biscardi

Great tour and the ground are well kept. The secret staircase was pretty cool too and is nothing like I've ever seen. Was a nice chang of pace stop to get away from all the witch tales of the area.

Brenda Mossey

I love going to this area and house so much to see and so much history.

Michael Anthony

Very informative tour. Not very interactive which is a downfall to my experience. Fun if you enjoy learning about history.

Deborah Reevs

A must visit on your tip to Salem MA. Our guide was wonderful. Very informative and looked the part which was a nice touch.

Arthur Pence

Nice tour, $16/head free access to buildings and grounds. If you have read the book, this is a must see. Not for the phisically challenged, steep and narrow stairs.

Clayton Wile

Very cool place!!! This has a great story and a beautiful look into the history of Salem!

Dash Slootbeek

Great little house museum! Enjoyed our tour by Betsy (I think...might have been Betty, sorry!) And was a nice look into life in the 16/1700s. Time to read the book!

Ashley W

This was amazing. Hands down the best part of our visit to Salem. So rich in history, the building and gardens are beautiful and our tour guide was full of interesting information.

Debbie O'Toole

Love the location and we even saw a wedding being set up, great restoration being done. Reach out for authentic pieces from collectors, maybe on social media.

Adam Adams

We did not take the tour and viewed the house from the exterior. For the cost I think you would really have to be a big Hawthorne fan to bother. Not much view of the house if you dont pay to go in.

Kaylee Howlett

Nice stop! If you’re interested in Nathaniel Hawthorne and seven gables history! Honestly, pretty cool to visit even if you have no idea about the history (or the book). Our tour guide was great and answered all of our questions thoroughly.

Donna Gornick

It has a great story, the house is quite charming and the tours are informative. We really enjoyed this tour. One photo is of the hidden staircase (we were allowed to go up it) which led to the bedroom of a gentleman in the story.

Jareth Graves

The only really negative thing I have to say about visiting this house, was the fact that the person who originally restored it, made it to match the book, The House of the Seven Gables, rather than the original construction and expansions. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and the tour was quite interesting. I won't spoil it, but the "surprise" in the tour was most enjoyable. The grounds are also quite beautiful!

Scott Taggart

Found it to be interesting. Definitely a place to see if you're interested in New England history and architecture.

Mike Bailey

An amazingly historic home. The community's embrace of this classic abode is absolutely wonderful. Our guide was not just educated on the House of Seven Gables, but so many things.

Mick D

This is a very cool place on the water. The secret staircase is very cool and deceiving. Very nice property and more than one attraction.

Mary Conant

A must visit while you are in Salem Massachusetts. The house is a little run down but for its historic value and information it's a good take. Also on the premises is the home of Nathaniel Hawthorne which you can also tour and included in the initial cost.

Joao Martinez

Absolutely fabulous. This place is marvelous and the staff are very nice and knowledgeable of its history. If you ever stop in Salem please check this place out. You won't regret it

Heather Porter

Our tour guide Cass was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions!

Sandra Springer

When I was a child I went to the House of the Seven Gables. I am now 56 years old and it is one place and experience that I have & never will forget. Very enchanting. I for whatever reason think about it and have many times through out my life. I believe I was about 5 or maybe 6. It has never left my mind. Very enchanting and was a great experience. Please keep history going.

Paul Fuerte

Another must see place that takes you back to the 17th century. The atmosphere truly does reveal the historic presence of the place.

Thaddeus Russell

A great tour of an interesting location. Tour guide was funny and knowledgeable. Restoration is ongoing. There's a brief passage though a "secret" staircase that might be daunting for the claustrophobic.

Bill Walker

Amazing look into the early history of how people lived in the colonies. Also a must see for fans of Hawthorne.

Darin Van Ryswyk

Cool historical tour / experience in Salem. If you have an hour and are looking for a memorable experience this is worth while.

Carolyn Wendolowski

This was one of our last stops on our trip and I'm so glad we made it! Great tour and the grounds are very pretty.

Mark McGill

I didn't know much about this place when I got there but when I left I knew all about it. Guide was was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Very cool place. Very historical

Colleen Dion

Absolutely amazing place. I loved the history, the buildings, etc.

Elizabeth Colburn

Had a great time checking out the main house along with the other buildings on the property. Very informational and really cool to see structures that are hundreds of years old! We will back in the summer to visit the gardens!

Amalia Jording

Great tour! The secret stair case was awesome! Must see!!

Dan Beshai

Love this historical town. This area has a good amount of history and stories. Enjoy everything.

Brent Heller

Amazing little spot at the edge of town. Tour was well worth the price. Have fun on the staircase. Oh also watch your head. If you are over 6ft tall have fun.

Sherry Hankinson

This is a must visit for those into history and literature. The tour guides are amazing!

Brooke Johnson

Definitely a must see! I loved our tour guide! He knew his history and was entertaining! Everyone there was so nice! Highly recommended!

Jamie Maddox

This is a really cool tour of a 300+ year old house. You should do it.

Debra Patterson

Our tour guide was very informative. She knew the complete history of the house. It was like a glance back into history. The gardens were lovely, the gift shop had a large selection of unique items and view of the bay was beautiful. I want to read the book The House of the Seven Gables.

Mike Vander Heyden

Great informational tour and fascinating history. A must see in Salem!

Christopher Stevenson

The history, staff and tour guides at this place are all awesome. 5/5 and would give it more if I could! Thank you for the tour!

P Yaciw

Well over 300 years old with a rich history. A great guided tour.

Kat S

Our tour guide Adam was great and very informative. Grounds and house are beautiful!

Lynn Hopkins

This is an amazing part of Salem and Nathaniel Hawthorne's history. The tour is interactive, engaging tour guides, and secret inside the mansion.

Mary Kennedy

I did not actually go on this tour, we were trying to get on the road and beat traffic. That being said, the property is well kept and the staff i spoke to were very very nice

Marc L'Heureux

It was quick and quaint, the tour was very nice and informative. We enjoyed it very much.

sarah dun

Interesting and beautiful place! Loved it. The guide spoke a bit fast sometimes so I lost some info but he would do his best answering questions if we had some so I cant complain!

Shantida Oakheart

This was a lovely historical home. The tour was very informative, however our tour guide, Jeff, was rather full of himself and overall unpleasant. He was very knowledgeable, but his take on history was rather insensitive to poc. Shop has a lovely selection of books, tchotchkes, and jewellery.

Sean Poore

A neat little slice of history!

Marcia Wilhelm

Beautiful gardens and fascinating house. Great tour!

Andy Durst

Interesting... Especially if you like Nathaniel Hawthorne

darren cornea

What a piece of history. The entire grounds are beautiful. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. If you are in the Boston area you must stop in here!

Jamye Sanders

I loved visiting the house of the seven gables. Nathaniel Hawthorne's writings have always been of interest to me. The house tour was GREAT! I think our tour guides name was Jamie, he was funny and knowledgeable. There is a special staircase that is pretty tough to climb if you have claustrophobia or weight issues. The demonstrations of craft working in the garden were a pleasure to watch. While at the house, I bought a signature cover copy of The House of the Seven Gables. Salem is known as the place where the witch trials happen, but that's a whole separate side to Salem. There are so many things to do and see here that it would take days or weeks to get to it all.

Cathy Kaufman

Excellent tour and guide loved it all‼️

J B

Absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. Highly recommend. Guides are fun and informative.

Judith Blondel

Fascinating history. Worth a visit.

BluelaceCoffin

Its beautiful and its completely worth it if your a fan of the book since the house is a replica from it and the house from the novel is based off it. Also Nathaniel Hawthorns birth house is part of the deal when you buy a ticket.

JoAnn Biederman

Tour is excellent, the Butler's sneaky passage is very narrow and tall please keep this in mind when attempting to make the climb.

Frank Tucci

Great place to visit for history and to walk around.

M MMM

Easily a 5-star review. Tour guide was hands down one of the best we had in the area. You could tell he really enjoyed his job. The house is amazing and we really enjoyed being able to learn about it's history. Definitely worth a trip.

Andrew Jeselson

Had the tour guide Terri, she is incredible. The tour of the house of the seven gables was incredible, instructive, and amazing. I never knew how incredible the history of the house was, it gives me goosebumps. Nathaniel Hawthorn was a significant part of American History!

stephanie poirot

Lots to see for the money and it's a very informative tour. It's a bit tight but that's to be expected when it's a house that old.

melissa Becker

Such a grest tour and wo derful history story telling. Loved the staircase in the chimney, so cool

Dezarae kirk

My husband and I chose the House of the Seven Gables as our elopement location! We loved the scenery and the feel of the whole town! Deb was fantastic! We couldn’t have been happier with how everything went on our special day!

Brian Knapp

Well maintained houses. The grounds are immaculate. Tour is worth it- nice tie in with history and the novel.

Mariano Lizarraga

This is definitely a must see on your visit to Salem. It provides a unique view into days gone by. I Particularly liked the “secret” passage.

Stacey

Did the tour with Claire as our guide. She was most informative and laid back. I learned a lot about the old houses. Thank you so much.

Jim Oddie

Tours are way too crowded and there are too many of them and they are way too close together! .. Overpriced for this type of a cattle tour. They use your money for bullsh1t liberal causes too!

Maryann Regimbal

Was interesting.Adam lead the tour through the house. He did a great job.

Ajay Veer Singh Chandel

Beautiful home. I had a great time visiting this place.

Lisa W

One of the best tours we had in Salem thanks to our tour guide, Kaylee. It wasn't touristy like (almost) everything else, and we actually learned some things that we didn't know. They said the tour would be 30-45 minutes but it ended up being well over an hour. Highly recommended.

social media

Our tour guide James was great!

John Kendall

Great museum, very interesting facts on pre revolutionary stories. I suggest guided tour docents are knowledge.

Lyss Eaton

The House and property are gorgeous. However, our tour guide just kind of assumed that we knew a famous author wrote a book about the house (which none of my group knew), so we did not learn there was a book written about the house until we saw it for sale in the gift shop. Other than this is was great!

Marvin B.

Gorgeous landscape, captivating view. A must visit spot in Salem.

Andrew Mintz

And absolute must see when in Salem Massachusetts. Even if you haven’t read the book it is a cool place to tour. Definitely recommend everyone visiting town to tour it

John Hansen

In an effort to clear up any misconseption, (I was under the wrong impression myself) this is NOT a witch house. This is the house that inspired Nathanial Hawthorne to write 'The House of the Seven Gables.' With that said, if you enjoy old houses, history, and unique architecture... this place is a must. A lot of rich history is associated to this place. We loved it. Our guide was great! Also apart of the tour is a walk through of Nathanial Hawthornes birthplace home. This was also a very neat experience with lots of history.

David Evans

This place is great. Our guide was awesome very knowledgeable and fun. I will be coming back again

Anna Bernier

Enjoyed the tour , friendly informative tour guide. A piece of history that you feel like you step back in time. The hidden staircase was a bonus.

Leslie Snyder

Walk around it. Take a tour inside of it. Either way it’s a great experience.

Lila Lewis

The House of Seven Gables is not only a fun place to visit, it is representative of a true historical gem. It’s very architecture speaks of literary, biographical, and cultural values that inform the early history of colonial America and the special role Salem plays its Puritan and literary origins. The staff is welcoming, they are skilled guides, and they genuinely know their history. This is one of the great destinations in New England, and the subtle significance of its story is enthralling.

Michiel Niesen

Interesting historical site to visit. I especially liked to learn about how the various owners of the house shaped it to become what it is today. My only slight negative was that guided tours were the only way to visit the main house. I personally prefer to independently explore.

Max62004

A much more interesting tour than 2 others that I saw in Salem, the guides are very keen and excited to make the tour as enjoyable as possible
