This Museum belongs to the category of Wax museum.
Really cool life-sized was figures! They were a little creepy, but they were depicting a very interesting part of history! 4/5 - Would go again!
Not at all scary but the people are great
Not worth the price of $10 per person for a tiny floor of wax figures.
Very interesting, it features many of the people involved in the Salem witch trials, and tells their stories. The museum is a bit smaller than I expected it to be, though.
Awesome place
Good... Not great
Of course don't compare to other wax museums but.....geeze a waste of time and $$
Enjoyed our visit, very small yet informative! My children enjoyed and liked the coloring area in the gift shop. Price isn’t bad although it would be nice if the basement attraction was included in the fee due to the small size. Would recommend regardless
Great place to visit
Neat!
Fun night out in Salem
Small museum. Can be seen all in a matter of 15 mins. Was simple and easy to get in and out of.
Very interesting and learned alot about the Hysteria and the Salem witch trials.
I had a great time coming go once a year to Salem always end up coming again to this place .
Definitely a tourist trap! If you're going to hit up a museum while you're in Salem, go to the Salem Witch Museum and skip this one. It's literally just poorly-crafted wax figures of colonial people.
Complete waste of time and money. It is small, like ten minutes to read everything and look at all the "exhibits". The wax figures are extremely old, many are missing parts. Overall a complete disappointment. If I could rate zero I would, this attraction isn't even educational.
If you want a voodoo doll purchase one here. I'd visited most of the witch stores in Salem and none had a real voodoo doll except for this store. The staff of girls who work there are crazy. They talk out loud about their boyfriend problems and they talk badly about their coworkers. I've never seen so much envy between employees. It's a great little store except for the background noise of the employees bad mouthing each other. They need to play a bit of pagan/folk/witch music in the store. It will create the Salem black magic ambience most people expect in Salem. This store has so much potential because of its location to the cemetery out back. If you walk outside towards the back of the store you'll come upon the cemetery that dates back to the 1600s and there you'll find buried one of the original Mayflower passengers. Who is the owner? You might consider playing spooky background music in the store. It's what we tourists sort of expect in Salem. If you give the tourists what they want they are sure to buy more items from your store. You might also consider speaking to your employees about not gossiping when customers enter the store. The girls up front huddle at the register yapping about their personal business instead of welcoming the customers to the store.
I loved it
Not worth $2 each let alone $10 each. Wax museum and haunted house are very small and not many props at all. Everything could fit in the area the size of half a regulation basketball court.
The Salem Wax Museum, which looks like it has a lot of potential from the outside amongst many other exciting places along historic Derby Street in Downtown Salem, has definitely seen better days. This might be an okay place to take little kids where it might seem like a big exciting attraction to them but for anyone else it's really just a rundown, small, overpriced disappointment. Also it's honestly rather boring and there is absolutely no excitement or surprises during the entire mundane experience. As far as it being overpriced, you are better off to get the package deal where are you can see three attractions for a discounted total price. However, The Salem Wax Museum should honestly be your last priority on the list to see. The gift shop consists of mostly cheesy, overpriced, stereotypical, cheap looking things from the "Witch City". When you're done make sure to check out the old burial ground behind the museum and behind Beer Works. This is absolutely worth seeing and you can walk around for free! Also there is a memorial to many of the witches who were hung right next to the cemetery. This is an amazing place for beautiful photo opportunities. Honestly if you want to have a much more unique and worthwhile experience you should head down towards the pier / waterfront and go exploring amongst the multitude of unique shops where you can find things from handmade jewelry to all kinds of eclectic items that you'll never find anywhere else. It's in this area that you'll find the real souvenirs and gifts everyone will appreciate and which are not cheap mass-produced garbage. One of the most popular places in this area is Laurie Cabot's shop where you can get very unique items and even a reading from herself personally, for a look into your future...
Realist, clean, friendly staff
A lot of fun and very nicely done.
Cute little town. Fun day trip around halloween
Great walk through the history of Salem.
History was good, but figures are clearly super old and so is the building. It just all seemed a bit boring. Needs to be livened up.
Nothing scary, no witches. Just stupid history. Thought it was not a good value. I'd spend my money elsewhere.
This was a disappointment it is over priced for what you get to do. The museum is very small we literally finished it in maybe 20 mins only because we read each sign it would have been less if we didn’t. Basically it’s one room one small room we were shocked that it was done. Now it was very informative we did learn some history but for the money it wasn’t worth it
An attraction to check out while visiting the town of Salem.
Very interesting. Definitely need to go during the off season. The figures could do with some updating but the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
It is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Good historical information if you read the plaques. Small gift shop at the end.
Still nice to see but not a must see. Woman working the registar was rude and impatient although there was no line and store was dead
Small exhibit. Wasn't awful, but would go back anytime soon. On the cheaper side so not a huge disappointment.
I always love coming here. Best experience ever, great vibes, food, shops, and history.
It was very interesting small museum but loved it all the same
Suggested as the top scary place to visit, we checked it out, but for $12, it was super weak and disappointing. It wasn't scary, funny or worthwhile. The haunted house lasted for about 10 minutes max. RIP
Worst haunted house I’ve ever been too. Not even scary there were hardly any staff inside only saw and heard two people inside dressed up. We walked very slowly through it and it took 1 or 2 mins to get out very quick and lousy. Waste of $18.
Not really impressed it was a waste of money I think
I'm not a fan of wax museums, but today my kids and I made our annual trip to Frankenstein's Castle, the haunted house that they operate during the Halloween season. I highly recommend it - it scared the pants off of me! Literally. My pants fell down about 3/4 of the way through, and I think I may have scarred an evil clown for life. We had a wicked good time!
Reasonable value for your money if you like reading about history. The wax figures are all 'uncanny valley' spooky.
It was short. But some of the displays are a good read if you have the patience.
It was okay. Props were cool a little cheesey, and small, but good info. I wouldn't go again or recommend.
Very informative while showing some of the darker side of our history, but something we all should learn from.
It was pretty cool. I thought that some of the figures looked more like dressed up mannequins than wax figures but that's just my opinion not an accusation. The final display will really pull at your heart and make you realize the horrible frenzy and hypocrisy that was the Salem witch trials. I enjoyed the historical lessons that was listed on the signs and they have a pretty good gift shop. It's $10 (per person) to walk through or $15 with a guide. They let you take as many pics as you want. Definitely worth taking a gander if you're in the area.
To much expansive ....8$ per person for five minutes and the quality of sculptures realy poor. The hand of a person was on the wrong side
Small but fun! Worth the price
The salem witches turned all these people into wax.
Was museum was good i thought there would be more to see
Excellent history lesson.
Good depiction of the era, but I did not see anything great.
Fun little tour and discount on a second tour history of witches!
Very short walk thru, but well done and educational; a grim presentation of a shameful past in American history portrayed in wax statues. We enjoyed it quite a bit. Be sure to pay attention for the official decree at the end of the display. Look left at the bottom of the stairs.
Very interesting tourist spot nice employees
Story telling 15 mins long
Tourist trap, not super exciting but a quick, fun attraction.
I'm not a fan of wax museums. I suppose the craftsmanship on the figures was quite detailed. Felt like a tourist trap.
Super cool!
So realistic
We toured just the wax museum. Very disappointing. Figures were poorly done, only placards for information and overpriced. Not sure I would even give a 1.
If you like to read history instead of listening to it. Decent museum took us about 10 minutes to get through it. The wax figures are kind of outdated but the info is there on the plaques. Got to do some carcoal rubbings at the end which was cool but not worth a $9 admission....maybe a $5.
I expected it to be more than two rooms worth but it was a very factual. Unfortunately the wax figures have broken fingers and things to that extent.
Great, lots of horror stuff!
Do NOT waste your money on this place. So not worth it. Did not enjoy at all.
Love going here every few years
Pretty informative. Make sure you get the combo tickets for the attractions. That would make the place more worth your money.
Quaint {aka as tiny) museum that if you rush through will take you only a few minutes. Still a cool little place though. Save your ticket because you can also use it next door at the...{forgot the name) and they have a guided tour which is also short but when used will justify the price of the ticket overall.
This was an okay exhibit. I did learn a bit about the trials, but it was poorly laid out.
HORRIBLE Experience!!! TOTAL Tourist TRAP!!!!!!!! What a waste of money. My living room would be able to hold a bigger display than this place did. Everything had to be read, where other wax museums I attended had audio. $18.00 for my daughter and I to go through, I felt robbed!!!
Good historical facts but only sketchy wax figures and mannequins. Wasnt worth the money.
Great experience, learned a lot about the witch trials
Fun stone rubbing at the end! Great wax figures depicting the history of Salem
History behind myths and trials. Little short, wish all tourist spots would coordinate stories about historic events
Please do not bother going to the haunted house. Money scam. Ten dollars for the people to not realize we were walking through. Only TWO people jumped out at us and they were absolutely expected from the black curtains next to the cheap black plywood. We complained to the ticket office and they said we could go back through AGAIN if we wanted LOL. Such a cheap haunted house and cheap management.
The depictions of the Salem Witch Trials and Piracy tales was fascinating. The tour we took through the sister gift shop was also fascinating. The stories were more believable than those given at the Salem Witch Museum mostly because the tour guides didn't have much conference in the way they told their depiction of how witches are seen today.
beautiful experience to meet celebrities, there are many statues but there are more presidents some athletes and artists, a nice experience to take pictures with celebrities, the museum is small but it is good to visit, I was happy taking photos,,,, if you are thinking of visiting it visit it as soon as possible
Pictures and video allowed. Site of the witch trial memorial statue. Would have loved the bundle ticket, but was in town just over 48 hours. Two penny presses on site if you're a collector like me, and the staff will happily give you change
I'd say one would only enjoy themselves if they already have a fondness for wax figures. I was thoroughly impressed and pleased. I thought it was worth the small fee.
Very little to see waisted my mont
Not much in there, but great customer service.
Never been
We enjoyed learning about the history of Salem. Pretty decent setup. Nothing spectacular, but it is well put together. Get the package deal where you can do 3 attractions for $20.
Waste of money. Wax figures of poor quality with hand and heads thrown unto mannequin bodies. Don’t waste your time.
Small, overpriced, interesting bits of historical info, but probably not what you want to see in a wax museum.
I found this place terrible, disappointing, and a rip off. I let my kids choose an activity to help them get more involved in the trip. On the way out I heard, “Sorry Dad, that was terrible. Should have checked the ratings online.” My kids thought it was cheesy, poorly done, and in great need of maintenance and upkeep.
Great fun..great place to visit.
Closes at 5
Awful. Complete waste of time. They should be ashamed that they charge to get in.
We just got back from visiting 3 haunted houses in Salem... Frankensteins Castle, the Haunted witch village, and Chambers of Terror (on the Warf). Frankensteins castle Castle was awful. Not even dark, and a couple of people doing "jump scares". It was really short, and the actors we're rude. Same accross the road at haunted witch village. The lines were ling, and because of the location they suck in all the gullable tourists. We walked further down to the Warf to Chambers of Terror, and THAT was a great haunted house. Don't waste your money at Frankensteins Castle or haunted witch village.
Went on Halloween 2016 and this is where they had the "Haunted Houses". DO NOT DO THEM!!! Trust me. They were horrible. We went to 2 of them and they let us in right after the first group before us and the "actors" weren't ready for us. Was not scary and it was over in 2 minutes. Please! Listen to me. I wanted my money back. You 'd think Salem would have done a better job. Pure laziness and unprofessional. The tickets were over priced. I've been to school funded haunted houses that did a better job.
Kinda cool but not worth $10 per ticket. Look around for bundle tickets for some of the museums.
A huge waste of money. We were very excited to go there. We each payed 10$ which is not that big of a deal but it's definitely not worth 10$. It shouldn't even be called a museum as it's one room. We went through it in 10 mins, with us reading everything. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone as you can read all of it online and use your 10$ for something worth it.
It was cool, but not really worth the money.
Very small, not too much to see. Good to see it ones
A collection of generic Salem information stuck on plaques under what appear to be amateur quality "wax" creations poorly depicting a scene from each plaque. Incredibly short and weak... wouldn't have been worth it even if it were free.
Quick and inexpensive
Very informative of the history and fun to go to during the October time. Had a great time here. Keep in mind you will be buying tickets for a show later about a hr ahead of time due to how busy they are
We weren't impressed with this place. We saw some wax figures, read plaques and that was it. Don't waste your money.
The history behind Salem and why it became such an historical town was Amazing. To learn how thing happened was truly inspiring. Can't wait until Halloween 2017.
Wax statues are very lifelike. Only a handful of statues to view. Not overwhelmingly exciting in any way. 9 bucks to get in. Killed a few minutes but I def would not recommend.
Great place to visit
The wax museum was great. Among the same"neighborhood" is a series of attractions run together. The information was great and well spoken while keeping engagement. Great experience!
it was a good experience and I would recommend it to learn about the history of Salem and the witch trials, their is a rich history in the town to be learned
Very interesting facts. Loved it.
Learn new facts on history
Love it! Had a great time
It was fun to see the history of the witch trials in wax figures. Had a great time visiting the museum. It is not very big so don't expect a huge museum. It is a fun stop while visiting all the other stuff Salem has to offer. You don't want to use to much time on one stop anyway.
cool
Frankensteins castle very cheesy. And short. Couple of ok jumps
Beautiful museum where wax statues representing important characters of the trials of 1692 are shown, as of different historical situations regarding the witches.
Nice
You can walk at your own pace, very creepy in a good way.
Pretty cool little wax museum. A bit smaller than I expected, but it was fairly priced and entertaining, and the quality of the figures was pretty good.
If you're going to do a tour of Salem you should definitely try to make time to stop in to the wax museum
Short time but Great Learning and Experience!! If you go to Salem you have to go!
I felt as though I was transported back in time. Convinced me to quit my job and spend my days in this splended museum.
Good way to get a little overall history at your own pace
Lots of fun!
learned a lot, but it’s very small. the staff was so nice but said there was an interactive part of the museum.. guess i just expected it to be a little more interactive than just a jail cell to sit in.
Worth $3 maybe. Dusty and small.
Very educational. I enjoyed, but my 13 & 14 yr. Old kids were bored & not interested in learning anything.
Don't wasteof your time
Nice place but too small
Great place, great prices and super friendly knowledgeable staff!
Kinda lame. Go to Count Orlocks horror museum instead, it's waaaaaayyyyy better
Don't waste your money.
Scariest place I have seen so far.
Pretty cool place not very big but nice.
Very enjoyable with some knowledge that isn't necessarily known outside of MA.
Rather boring but the animatronic were quite good and what is making me give this place a 2 star.
Proces are fair, staff knows their history also knows exactly what they have to offer.
Very good
Great Staff and a pleasure to work with Matt From Net Atlantic
Fun place to visit for Halloween
The woman working the counter was sweet, but it was a huge rip off! $8 to see something that takes five minutes to see all of. The wax figures themselves and the exhibits were very boring. Save your money for another museum.
great candles
Not much to see, not great quality. Not worth the money, in my opinion. Lots of better ways to spend your money in Salem
Cool wax sculptures, interesting historical details. Quick and fun to browse.
Not up to the standards of Mme. Tussaud's, but some interesting exhibits.
Was fun!!!!
I don't think I would spend the money to go here again. It was pretty informative but very, very small and awfully short. I had hoped for something a little more interesting. Only took us 8-10 minutes to get through the whole thing. The haunted house and gift shop downstairs were pretty nice, though.
This Place Is Amazing. I enjoyed every display, every plaque, every single step in that building, and the gift shop had a lot of stuff that I wanted to buy.
Hey, why not go. I lived in Salem for many years and would pass this place, never went until I started filming and acquired passes for most of the locations. This place didn't allow me to film, so I just walked around and listened and read and listened and it wasn't that bad. I even got Tarot cards at the gift shop. Not a bad way to send an hour or so. My daughter liked it so, no complaints.
I don’t recommend going to the Salem wax museum.. not worth the $20 better off reading about it online
Quick museum. Not a lot to see.
Was good
This isn't a bad place, it's just bland. The wax figures leave a bit to be desired. They look a bit silly. However, this place does help paint a picture of life during witch hysteria.
Good history wax museum. But the wax models were Dusty and old.
we had some much fun and the kids learned a lot
