The Otis House is a nicely preserved bit of New England history, and the tour guides (at least on "First Night", when we went) were knowledgeable and moved at a good pace. Having said that, it is just a house, and only really remarkable by virtue of it's age and the work put into maintaining it as an exhibit of colonial life. This is best taken in with the other small downtown historical sites like the old state house, and the granary burial ground, but the few extra minutes to walk over to it from these locations are probably worth while.

(Translated by Google) It's a museum about the lives of the Otis family and families. The place was a bit dusty and it was not quite as interesting as the Nichols House Museum or the Gibson House Museum. $ 10 for adults, $ 9 for seniors and $ 5 for students. Tours start at the beginning and the half of every hour and lasts between 40 min and 1 h. The last tour is at 4.30 pm. No wheelchair accessible entrance. We stumbled upon this small museum and historic house on the last day of our Boston trip. Visits are by guided tour only, which they charge a small fee for (fee is waived for Boston residents). The tour was informative and the house itself looks remarkably well-preserved. We learned that the house is one of the very few that survived following the modernization and revitalization of the area, and that it had to be uprooted and moved a few meters back to make way for the widening of Cambridge Street. Check it out if you have at least an hour to spare.

Historic house on cambridge street. The house was saved for preservation. It had many other owners and uses and had to be restored to its original look. They did restore most rooms to the original look. The furniture is mostly not original to the house but for the period. Overall the house is interesting but if you're looking for a completely preserved house with original furniture this is not the place. It's a nice stop if you are looking for something to do.

Great example of early Boston architecture. The interior has been painstakingly restored with rooms representing 3 eras of its existence. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and do a great job telling the history and fielding questions.

House used to be in the road. Otis paid Charles Bulfinch to build this home and connect it by a tunnel to the state house he commissioned Bulfinch to build. They developed the Beacon Hill neighborhood and connected it all by tunnels. To hide the tunnel dirt Bulfinch took down the Tremont using a funicular railroad to fill in Mill Pond and the mudflats of the Charles River and then sneaked in his tunnel dirt in. Otis was also a traitor at the Hartford Convention.
