Cool museum on the freedom trail showcasing the old South meeting house! Most of the museum is the original meeting area preserved for the public. They also showcase the history and the role the building has played in the free speech debate.
It was very nice to pay a visit to his historical place. Tip for locals: don’t forget to visit any Boston public library of your convince and get a ticket (or 4!) to this place for free!
Very well preserved, rich in history from the colony times and revolution, very interesting, and presented in a very pleasant way. So easy to tour.
History is essential to navigating life.
Place where a meeting, which eventually led to the Boston Tea Party, took place on December 16th 1773
Live history
Planning on having our wedding here!
A really nice museum, only $6. If you are into colonial history this is a great place to visit on Boston's Fees Trail. The old South meeting house is where the planning stage for the Boston tea party took place.
Cool place fun for all ages you learn a lot about history
Found the history presented here very interesting.
Huzzah! History depicted went way past just the Boston Tea Party.
Awesome place to visit! Admission is reasonable. AAA discount available.
Wish someone would tell you about this place while walking through
Historical Place
Beautiful and fun to see, but it’s very quick. A guided tour would be a great addition.
It's cool to know history here
History!!!
A nice stop on the freedom trail.
This is where the organizers of the Boston Tea Party met. $6 is admittedly a lot to see the small museum, however there are also plenty of historic exhibits on the Boston Tea Party to make it worth your while.
Has a tour hourly not bad price for it as well
On GoBoston card so cannot comment on value for money but information was well presented and interesting. A lovely building with an interesting history.
A lot of history here. Take it all in!
Great School trip program.
Fascinating details about some forgotten history.
A special place in Boston's history crouching in the midst of a modern cityscape. Exhibits and live events are enhanced by the aura of colonial society.
Beautiful historical location
Kind of lacking a lot to look at. Great historical spot with plenty of information on the building but there's not much to see other than the buildings architecture.
Really interesting, just with there was more history to see. Also the gift shop was closed.
It is a neat thing to do in Boston
Our first stop on the Freedom Trail! We were able to buy tickets for three of the official sites on the Freedom Trail here, which includes admission to Old South Meeting House, the Old State House, and Paul Revere's House. These tickets never expire, so you can save them and come back at another time if you want. The Old South Meeting House is a meeting house for the Puritans to worship. It was the largest building in Boston at the time, and it is most famous for being the organizing point for the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. On that day, 5,000 colonists met at the Old South Meeting House to decide what to do with the taxable tea sitting at Griffin's Wharf. After failing to have the tea sent back to England, Samuel Adams stated, "This meeting can do nothing more to save the country." These words were rumored to be a secret signal to the Sons of Liberty to walk down to Griffin’s Wharf and dump the tea into the harbor, marking the start of the Boston Tea Party. As you can see, there is just so much history and colonial significance in this place! And the interior is really beautiful, especially since it's arranged in the traditional New England meeting house style. This is definitely a must stop on the Freedom Trail.
Scenic place, great for a brief respite from the freedom Trail
Very nice
You can't visit Boston to see History - without seeing the Old South Meeting House. My daughter and I visited on July 4 - we had already done the guided Freedom Walk, but went back to see inside the building. This is a very easy stop. There is an exhibit and an audio tour available for you. We instead just walked inside, sat down on a bench, and soaked up the atmosphere. If you try you can see the Colonists, hear the arguments. This site is included on the Go Boston Card. We stayed for about 10 minutes and that was perfect. I definitely recommend it.
Great city landmark on the History trail around the city. Go check it out.
History and it's air conditioned!!
A must see visit a true representative of Boston history
Very cool. Love the history
Fabulous! The history of our country can be felt in this building! Amazing to stand where our forefathers once did.
A beautiful space full of Boston history. Admission is $6 for adults.
Beautiful historic landmark. The admission was a bit expensive for the small number of exhibits and lack of access to the 2nd floor gallery. The various difficulty levels of scavenger hunts was a thoughtful touch and did make it more engaging for school aged kids.
Historically significant landmark. Definitely worthy of a visit.
If you love history you will be surely enjoying this place.
Great history!
Amazing History
Interesting place to visit, and at $5 entrance for seniors, very reasonable price.
Love history
Certainly cool to see, but it is just one big room. Make sure you download the audio presentations to your phone and listen to them while you are in the meeting house. It requires a QR scanner on your device so make sure you have one installed. Otherwise you will be doing a lot of reading. The recorded version nhelps bring the exhibit to life.
Great very old and historic
Very nice exhibits
Beautiful place ...
One of my favorite museums in Boston. I've walked the Freedom Trail a couple of times, and this was one of the highlights on both trips. The interior iteself is interesting, being relatively unchanged from the revolutionary era. There are also plenty of very well-constructed, fascinating exhibits about the building's history. A very nice way to spend a couple of hours.
Great stop, worth the tour price!
Very beautiful little museum!
Don’t miss this stop in downtown Boston. Old South Meeting House won’t take long but well worth it if you are a history buff.
Make sure to see the Boston Tea Party re-enactment every December 16th, at the Old South Meeting House. Fascinating and great event for all ages.
Ok. Glad I had the Go Boston pass and didn't have to pay to get in.
Original American history. Awesome!
Very insightful museum, free wifi.
Poor acoustics
Interesting history.
One of the historic sites along the Freedom Trail. It's quite remarkable for being the venue for organizing the Boston Tea Party, one of the significant events that led to US independence from Britain.
Cheap cool thing to do. A lot of history that gets overlooked
Pretty important place in the history of Boston and the US.
Very cool place
Neat quick little stop along the freedom trail
Amazing history. I can't believe the people that have spoken there. Very cheap to get in, currently only 5 dollars!
The beauty of this warm and welcoming spiritual space is infused with history and love. This building dates from 1875. It has been beautifully maintained. I love to see the sunlight shining through the stained glass windows. The natural wood adds an additional layer of warmth.
I sat in awe for a solid 3 minutes in the Jefferson booth
(Translated by Google) The architecture of the building is splendid, both inside and out. It's a must in Boston. Indeed, the museum space is undeveloped. I do not see any problem to pay for this type of place. The price is a little high considering that there is almost no museum proper. But the visit is worth it. We pay to see the beautiful interior. Which is acceptable to preserve this type of building. There is also a charming little shop in the basement.
The history inside this antique building is very interesting. I like how the wood floors creek with every step, and I am always amazed at the detail the people of the past put into the craftsmanship of their work. Also, they provide a fun little scavengar hunt of the artifacts displayed around the church hall.
Beautiful place. Nicely maintained. What you see inside is completely what will betray your expectations after looking at the place from outside.
Boston 's very own revolutionary center in lots of ways & a great informative museum WITHOUT being stuffy or pretentious, reasonably priced and part of the Go Boston Card bundle of places to see. FREE speech and free Expression being the order of the day!History was made & lived HERE!
Great go to for Boston history
Ride into History!
Awesome make me go twice.
The smallest museum that I have ever been to.
It was fun to tour here.
Excellent museum! There were treasure hunts for the kids so that they were absorbed in the museum. Beautiful!
Very knowledgeable to guide!
Not worth the money, a picture from phone would do. The museum and supplemental materials are in need of a 21st century update.
History is always good to learn about, Boston is full of history
Historic
I wandered in from my journeying on the Freedom Trail and had a good time with the exhibits and looking around the building itself, which is interesting in its architecture and even just its historical significance.
Great piece of history. Beautiful architecture. Dove in here during the rain. Spent over an hour reading and learning from the exhibits.
Architecture and history is great!
The Old South Meeting House (US$6 per adult) is one of the important stops on the Freedom Trail in Boston. Built in 1729, this attraction offers a nice stop to see Georgian period architecture. We particularly liked the modest red brick facade and building steeple. Inside the Old South Meeting House, you can visit the meeting hall, where debates were heard regarding British taxation on the colonies as well as protests and outcries regarding the events of the infamous Boston Massacre. Within the main hall you can see pew boxes (two of which are original found on the sides of the hall) where parties would have sat and debated local affairs. There are also a collection of displays regarding social and political issues deliberated at the Old South Meeting Hall. These help provide context on events which took place here that lead to the American Revolution as well as shaping the country during its early days. Overall, a nice stop for those with interest in early American history. There is also a good gift shop in the basement of the Old South Meeting House, which find near the building exit. Note: At the Old South Meeting House, you can buy a combo ticket that includes entrance into the Old State House and the Paul Revere House, giving you a $3 savings compared to buying each ticket individually.
Small but pretty.
This place was really cool to see. I'm so glad it's been preserved. It takes about an hour to do if you read everything. There is so much history here. I definitely would recommend checking it out!
Great place to learn about historical Boston
Bring your kids and go on the scavenger hunt.
Historic must see place
Gave it 3 stars, just not sure it was really worth the price of admission. It takes maybe 20 minutes to walk through. The money is a more of a donation to keep the building in good shape. A cool sight to see though, so if you love history, stop by.
love these historic places
Exactly what it sounds like
A lot of historic meetings happened here.
Another one of my favorite spots on the Freedom Trail.
Historic and great place to visit!
Nice historical place
Impressive. I'm a huge fan of early American architecture and this does not disappoint.
HISTORY!!!!
Amazing! I'm such a nerd
Great exhibition.
Great piece of American history!
Found this to be very interesting with lots of information
Wow! Amazing history and a solid tour. It was undergoing renovation, but doesn't mess with the experience too much.
A Great Stop on the Freedom Trail, on the edge of downtown crossing this building is full of History
Very informative but not worth the 10$. It takes you about 20-30 minutes to read everything.
This was such an interesting place to visit. They had a few things out that helped to make the exhibit more interactive. The docent that was there was especially knowledgeable and sweet. There are scavenger hunt for youth of all ages as well.
A big part of history! The self-guided tour was easy to follow and we learned quite a bit about what made the building famous.
Very historical.
Has the reputation of being a "happening place" throughout early American history ... think of the famous "tea party." Did not know the British had occupied and used it to keep and train horses. Totally disrespectful but kinda funny now in retrospect. The inside of the building is so beautiful it is difficult to imagine it filled with dirt and horse manure. Be prepared to do lots of reading when visiting this historic site. There is audio available if you have a smart phone and ear buds. I was short on time and did not get to read everything ... especially events concerning the modern period. Need to hunt for the information online.
A definite stop on the freedom trail. It is now a series of displays with an optional audio tour available on your smart device. The displays focus more on the Meeting House's tradition of free speech extending well beyond the revolution and it's importance to that period. If your expecting somebody rable rousing as an in-period Sam Adams, you'll be disappointed, but it's broader history is also worth some consideration. For the price, the history and the picture opportunities, it is well worth a brief visit.
This is now a museum, though it was once a church and a meeting house. This was where the planning and tallying was done for the Boston Tea Party! Seventh stop on the Freedom Trail.
If you'd love to learn the true history of our founding father's, old colony Massachusetts...and sit in a pee that holds the history of this nation...than this is a definite spot you will appreciate! I loved it!!
I enjoyed the tour inside. My wife & I used the audio app they provide for the tour.
A real gem in history...I actually forgot that Al Sharpton spoke there in the 1990s...The whole city of Boston is a gem for those who love to learn.
Fascinating old building that has played a key role in the maintenance of freedom in our country
Amazing history here! I liked the sheets for the younger ones to keep their interest.
Wonderful historical building, prices are not that bad. and the audio tour is very informative. Take your time and enjoy!
I like!!
Not bad
So here's a piece of history that you can access for only $6 to keep the place alive and you can find out more than you ever would have known about the origin of the history of the United States of America right here you'll feel like you're part of it
What an amazing piece of American history! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable
One of the birthplaces of the USA. Great exhibits and very educational.
A place that excuded history
Really nice museum about Boston history and the tea party. The entry is 6$ but we paid 3$ each because there was some place under construction. The people really nice and willing to help. Worthy to visit
Neat piece of American History!
The history is incredible
Very educational
Beautiful landmark. The audio was interesting and easy to access via phone. Really great place to visit
Important place for American revolution.
Very informative
Good place for meetings, but sound system is really bad.
Perfect for an hour's history
Love seeing a history of real free speech, including tolerating viewpoints the owners may disagree with.
Boston's history live . A must for everyone.
This is one of the great historical sites in Boston. It's now a museum, but once a year, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Old South Church, which is now located in an 1870s Italianate style sanctuary on Boylston Street (across from the Boston Public Library) returns to its original home for its Thanksgiving service - a very special occasion to look forward to on your calendar. Next year, Old South will be celebrating its 350th anniversary (not a typo!), so the Thanksgiving service should be all the more spectacular.
Cool piece of history
Cheap museum with lots of American history
Excellent lectures and historical display with friendly staff!
(Translated by Google) The American Revolution had its share of meetings held in this place. This fervent pro-America had a beautiful home that was preserved to show itself to the visitors. Reinvented as a museum, it is possible to enter and admire this vestige of more than 2 century.
Very nice contrast between old and new.
Great school trip for my students to really connect to Boston History
Great for a short museum visit. Dosent takes more that 45min to 1 hour. Perfect for families.
So much history happened here. Cool thing about this tour is that you get to listen to events on your phone. You scan a little bar code and it takes you through the tour. Worth it.
Historic building amongst modern structures
Neat place!
I suppose some critical thinking once went on here. Tourist markets, a place for fruit sales and a nice park are across the street. Simple building.
