This place is time and money WELL SPENT! 3rd time there. He was so talented. Friendly associates there too. Nice gift shop. Has signed prints from NR.
Anyone coming to New England should pay this museum a visit. It was my great discovery of the trip. Rockwell’s paintings explore quintessential values and life in a bygone era. Brilliant artist and amazing museum with knowledgeable staff. Thank you!
Wow what an experience. We have all seen art by Norman Rockwell on magazine covers. To really appreciate the genius of the man you need to visit this place. Listen to a docent, learn the messages told in paintings I never would have noticed. With a close up view of actual paintings you see what a master of detail the man was. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds are beautiful. Bring a picnic lunch or have a bite at the outdoor cafe.
This museum was excellent. Downstairs were all the original Post and Look magazines with Rockwell covers. Upstairs was all original sketches and paintings as well as exhibits from other artists. A short walk was needed to your his studio. The docents were very knowledgeable and audiovisuals were helpful. Highly recommended.
Amazing artist, Wonderful to see original works. The drive to and from the museum was breathtaking.
Starting at the Saturday Evening Post at age 17 and completing over 4,000 illustration and his last at SEP of memorial to JFK. Norman Rockwell illustrated life and times with realism and quirky humor which attracted the all generations. This museum is a tribute to his lifes work and can be enjoyed by everyone. :)
Some admission discounts available. High quality artwork and some rotating exhibits. A few short informational videos as well. Allow 1-3 hours depending on if you walk the grounds or listen to some of talks/watch the videos.
Beautiful setting, gorgeous day and enjoyable artwork. Definately stop in his studio if you go - great history!
$20 admission. Good display of artwork. A bit crowded... nice stop
A definite must-see if you're in the area! Start out in the lower level with the movie, and then look at all the Saturday Evening Post covers in the same room. It will take you through history -- and your own life. So much to relate to. Then go upstairs for all the originals and special exhibits. Allow a couple of hours.
A very beautiful setting. His painters cottage was just interesting as the museum
Very interesting place to visit.
Fun times. Love his works
Exhibiting the 1960's with grace and appreciation
Nicely put together. Of course love his work.
Norman Rockwell was so much more than Saturday Evening Post covers, and this is the place to discover the "so much more." The original oil paintings are indescribable in their detail and realism. Go down the trail to see the river and the bridge if you have time.
Awesome place if you are a fan Nice video with the son narrating it The studio has been improved
Just wonderful place to visit. Everyone loved Norman Rockwell. Had a wonderful time.
Great museum, beautiful property.
Awesome exhibits! Very well done and maintained.
Very educational, what an interesting and prolific artist. Excellent talks by the staff and lovely grounds for walking.
As someone who has never really enjoyed museums, and tend to get board very quickly, but somehow at the Norman Rockwell Museum, I enjoyed every bit of my time there. I didn’t find one piece of art I didn’t find interesting and artistically amazing. On top of the amazing art by Rockwell as well as a few other incredible artists, the staff was extremely nice and the location was stunningly beautiful. They were also very accommodating for kids, with a scavenger hunt of different paintings around the museum. I really enjoyed it and recommend it for a multi-generational outing.
This is a must see for visitors to the area. Every piece by this beloved illustrator shows the very heart of the changing social terrain of America. As always, the Rockwell has fabulous rotating exhibits. I was able to see the Wyeth and Parrish exhibits. Outstanding!!! The knowledgeable staff is always quick with a fact here or there. The gift shop is terrific, with something for everyone.
All I knew of Norman Rockwell's art was the Saturday Evening Post covers and while it was a delight to see them, it was even more wonderful to see his other paintings.
Wonderful museum and our tour guide was very informative and entertaining. She made the day so perfect. The grounds are gorgeous. We have been to so many museums across the US but this is by far one of my favorites.
This is a hidden gem! I was happy to find out about this museum while I was in the area. Bring your student ID and you get a HUGE discount. Very interesting!!!! Don't miss Rockwell's studio!!!!
Loved it, forgit how many paintings he had done
The museum is a true treasure of American life by Norman Rockwell. We enjoyed an informative talk by one of the guides that gave the backstory to several of the paintings in the gallery. The staff are all well informed about the paintings and the interactive activities. There is a small cafe on the premises. The museum store has many items that are reasonably priced. On the grounds are a number of sculptures and benches to enjoy the view. If you take the path you can see Norman Rockwell's art studio that is open to the public and has a very knowledgeable gentleman explaining the decor and paintings that are there. It's worth it to enjoy an afternoon here.
This museum is located in Massachusetts, USA. I came to this wonderful museum for a long time ago when I was a student at Miss Hall' s School in Pittsfield. Nice place full of nature covered with lots of greenery. Norman Rockwell is one of my favorite artist. Everything is healed with cute pictures. Great working, awesome!! I remember Mosburger shops in fast food restaurants in Japan had posters of boy 's paintings drawn by Norman Rockwell in the wall and are handling printed napkins etc in the past. I bought a book with lots of pictures in this museum. I still have it. I'm in Japan right now. It's little bit hard to visit there, but I feel very nostalgic and I hope to visit the museum and the school again someday. Are there any plans for Norman Rockwell Exhibition in Japan? I will definitely go watch it if there is one. I took a picture of the book I bought here, so I'll upload it too.
It has a very nice collection of his work.
Beautiful collection of his artwork. His studio was very cool.
Was good to learn more about Mr. Rockwell.
Small but well done. Very busy place on a rainy day. As we visited in rain, missed out on the outdoors part which was a shame- looked like it'd be great to explore
Inspiring displays and the grounds are so tranquil.
Norman Rockwell was not just a great American artist and recorder of everyday American life. But promoted family, community and nation, recognizing, respecting and promoting all people. A wonderful reminder of how great America is when Rockwell's values are understood and acted on by all of us.
Late arrival but ran through. Quite the history and wonderful grounds
Great place to visit. Norman Rockwell was such an amazing artist. I've been here several times in my life and always learn something new about Rockwell. If your thinking about coming here I would highly recommend it. Also plan on spending at least two hours here..Hope you enjoy the museum!
The museum is situated on beautifully kept property with many tables and shade trees. Inside Rockwell's iconic artwork is displayed and explained in context. Often, there is an additional display of artists based on a given theme. My family and I especially love the gift shop!
Absolutely stunning museum. Very kid friendly with both indoor and out door activities.
It is always a pleasure to see genius
The Director of Visitor Experience "rocks-well".. Awesome experience!
I never knew Norman Rockwell was such an interesting character. Fabulous art and interesting comparisons with other artists of the same era. Can’t wait to go again!
Fabulous small museum, well worth the time and $20 entrance fee. Great collection, especially the Saturday Evening Post covers and several major works including the Four Freedoms, the Gossip, and Shuffletons Barber Shop. The short video playing on a loop on the Covers room is very well done. The grounds are beautiful. Docents are very knowledgeable and engaging. You will leave feeling you really know the artist and the man.
What a wonderful place to be. Norman Rockwell showed America as it is, and the Four Freedoms really inspires you to appreciate America. Go and enjoy!
Expencive to get in.But lots to see and read.Very nice people working there.
So much more to NR than I thought. All of his Saturday Evening Post covers and other sketches with a tour of his last studio. Son Peter Norman has sculptures around too.
It is very nice museum. Lucky of me who has chance to visit this museum
Very informative. I especially liked where they had the 323 Saturday Night Post covers that he did.
Great for 20 bucks, loved the the other artists works too. 4 of us spent alot of money in the gift shop. Woman working there was so nice.
Very informative and we enjoyed the guided tour
This is one of the best museums in the Berkshire. The collection of Rockwell paintings is extensive and covers a wide range of his work, from original Post covers to his social justice paintings. If you've ever seen his pictures of his paintings before, seeing the originals takes it to a whole new level.
Rockwell's artwork it timeless, the museum is well curated. I enjoyed his studio and the grounds with there surrounding views are serene.
Well run museum focuses on American arts icon and the times in which he lived and worked. A must see.
Very well layed out. Many tours available.
Beautifully maintained facility. Staff was very helpful and friendly, and ever present.
Nice museum. Easy to get there. Friendly staff. Informative and thought-provoking displays. Good representation of history. I learned something new. Pleasant outdoors atmosphere with sculptures. Well worth the trip!
If you like Norman Rockwell, then this is the museum for you. The museum has most of the important works from Rockwell, laid out in chronological order. It also has all of the covers of the Saturday Evening Post in exhibit in the lower level. A very small exhibit devoted to contemporary artists that operated in the same illustrate world. The museum has such a beautiful ground. The illustrator's studio is relocated nearby. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Its admission is high for what it provides. We breezed through in such a short time, and may not be back anytime soon.
Magnificent works by a legendary artist alongside special exhibits like none other all set in the middle of the breathtakingly stunning backdrop of the mountains of the Berkshires. Rockwell's studio is set up as he used it in life and the museum is wonderfully designed. Staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, a visit here is a must! You won't regret it!
It was on my list for years to go see my favorite artist. When I describe the village I grew up in I say its my little Norman Rockwell village!!
I actually drove from Ohio to Massachusetts to see this museum. I was not disappointed. If you like Rockwell then you need to go. A whole room of Post drawings. His last studio is on the ground
Great parking, clean and awesome museum and gift shop!
The museum is relatively small, but 100% worth visiting. The art on the walls, the sculptures outside, Rockwell's studio and the grounds themselves are all excellent. There is a gift shop as well as a cafe were you can buy pre-made sandwiches.
The grounds are lovely but I went on a rainy Monday during foliage season and this place was overrun with elderly retirees! They came in droves on luxury buses and the parking lot was full. I ended up not even visiting the museum because it was so loud and crowded that you couldn't even appreciate the art. Plus it is $$$. Will have to come back another time.
Awsome museum a must see for everyone. So much more history than you can imagine
Very nice to learn about the artists from the area. And those who influenced the art the we currently live in the views of.
Great place informative staff! A must SEE!
Well done. Open space. Easy to get around. Great gift shop
Just a great place for the family to visit.
So amazing..very nice.
A treasure. Fabulous talk by docent.
Great museum, spent 3 hours there and could have spent more. Something for everyone.
His painting are so much more than we ever realized from just seeing the magazine covers and small prints over the years.
I love to visit this place again .I think my sister would love it too
The perfect place to learn about America's greatest artist. The museum is set up beautifully. The grounds are open and serene, with incredible views of the surrounding hills. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Dan, the tour guide. Thank you, Dan, for making such a great historical figure feel so relatable. Best vacation ever!
Very nice, $20 admit.
So much to see. A pictorial history of the 20th century from before WWI through the 1970s
Such a beautiful museum. We enjoyed our visit there.Learned so much during the visit.
Incredible facility in every regard. Well worth the visit for the whole family.
A fantastic place and will work the visit. They have some of the best descriptions I've ever seen. Although you might think this would be small, the about of exhibits and their quality are second to none! Highly recommended!
Outstanding! Plan a minimum of two and a half hours. That said I could have spent the better part of a day. It's not just art. It is history as ony Norman Rockwell could visually re-create. Even if you classify your self as non artsy, I think you will enjoy his work.
Perfect museum for a 3 or so hour visit. Very well done presentation on NR.
Norman Rockwell's work and studio on acres of beautiful property. Glad I had the opportunity to see it.
So interesting, a wonderful gallery and then to top it off, we got to visit his actual studio. Some of his son's sculptures are on the grounds, too! Well worth the trip!!!
Incredible facility, staff, and of course, collection! Incredible variety of drawings, paintings, and photographs. Worth a trip!!
The paintings are inspiring and the history is thought provoking.
Wonderful original art and very knowledgeable staff
Nice museum for such an impressive artist.
Very interesting museum. I spent over two hours there. The pictures are wonderful! The guides were great!
I am not an arts person, visited with a work group, it was interesting and entertaining. Spent around an hour there. You can buy arts and gifts
Pretty neat place to visit, you actually get to learn Rockwell's painting techniques, get to see his studio, and painstaking process of producing such detailed paintings. Place is easy to find, however, be aware, it will feel like you are in long island NY, given the usual crowd and insane prices for coffee and snacks in town, so bring your own lunch, unless you enjoy paying $20 for simple BLT (avocado adds extra $3) coffee requires a deposit of your first born. Plenty of parking, which is the only free thing in Berkshires. I'm sort of a devil's advocate here....
A wonderful collection of an illustrator that was an integral part of our lives and his depiction of americana.
Lovely grounds. The collection is fabulous. Don't miss the downstairs collection of Saturday Evening Post covers.
Who knew he was so prolific, and quite eclectic in his subjects. Excellent.
Nice museum. Good tour guide. I learned a lot about something I didn't think I wanted to learn about.
If there is anyone that captured the 20th century with a masterful eye, it would have to be Norman Rockwell. Rockwell took the Saturday Evening Post and elevated the covers to high art. In the lower level, all of the covers are displayed with a looping video. The museum also does a fantastic job of setting aside an area for students in the surrounding towns to share their works. On the main floor, the varied topics that captured all that is Americana at the time took into consideration the melting pot of ideas and peoples. Working from photographs, Rockwell took those images and created a unifying image that stirred the soul. The four freedoms proclaimed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt are captured masterfully: the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom to worship God in his own way, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. The varied collection from The Runaway to The Problem We All Live With are both subtle and direct in the message conveyed. This museum curates exhibits of different artists and also contemporary artists and provides an exhibition for their work. The gift shop is a great place to end your visit. If you are around during the spring/summer months then you will have the opportunity to visit Rockwell’s original studio across the way from the entrance to the museum.
Beautiful, peaceful setting. Great place to walk around outside on a nice day too.
It's always an emotional experience to view Norman Rockwell's artwork. Beautiful grounds, friendly and exceptionally accommodating staff. All around terrific experience.
Wonderful to remember those great illustrations and learn more about his life. I only took photos of outdoor sculptures. But do visit!
Very nice facility. Great tour guide and wonderful art.
Wonderful exhibits of Rockwell's work. A must for those who appreciate greatness....
Norman Rockwell's art portrays a lot of children and emotion. The museum is free for kids and welcomes them with many activities for kids. The art alone is also inviting for children. We event saw hula hoops and balls outdoors. Rockwell's son Peter has sculptures outdoors, as a bonus. The grounds have an excellent view with hiking trails. Rockwell's final studio was unique to see. One could stay all day on the grounds with so much to see and do.
Very cool little museum in the middle of nowhere (great Harrington isn't nowhere, but Stockbridge seems so) altogether, a really fun day trip! Take some friends and have fun! Thanks NRW!
An absolute gem of a museum! Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Actual Saturday Evening Post covers covering all 300 drawings by Rockwell, plus original oil paintings, sketches, anecdotes. His studio is also on the grounds.
Very well maintained and operated. Nice presentation of the ary work. Casual lunch selection. Beautiful gift shop. Free parking. Plan 3 hours and visit the town.
It was a lot of fun, great layout, awesome additional exhibits including a Rube Goldberg exhibit! Lots of learning and fun were had. Definitley a good fun day out if you're in the area!
Loved the museum. When you learn the background and history of the painter and the times you appreciate so much more his talent
All you could want to know about Rockwell and his work. You can visit his studio. Great docents.
Beautiful grounds & museum. Exhibits change every year, so there's always something new to see.
We were very pleasantly impressed by the museum and grounds. The museum not only displays Rockwell's prolific range, but places its context in both the art that influence him and his love of the people of New England. Clearly, he also influenced American art and people in a compelling exchange. This museum, set in the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is well worth the trip and two or three hours of unhurried browsing.
By going to this museum i have a greater appreciation for his work. The museum is clean and well spaced out. Very knowledgeable staff.
I heard great things about this museum, I'm planning to visit it soon
What a wonderful experience. One of the best museums I've seen. Can't recommend it higher.
Loved seeing originals by Norman Rockwell and learning about his life!
The history and work of Norman Rockwell draws one in to the American life and humor through his eyes and illustrations. Wonderful plaques explaining each picture. Talks by very knowledgeable docents and videos leave you even more appreciative of Rockwell's work. Very well done.
Nice museum dedicated to the renowned illustrator. A large number of his original art work are on display, as well as prints, and every Saturday Evening Post cover that he ever did. The collection spans the whole spectrum of his work, covering decades. Each piece of art includes a wonderful description, sometimes telling the viewer some behind-the-scene details. Tucked away off of the beaten path, the museum has a well-stocked gift store and includes a glimpse into the artist's studio as part of the entry fee. Well worth the time.
Wonderful museum to visit. Great to see many of Rockwell's originals.
Very nice museum. Worth taking a drive to visit. Plan on 2 -3 hours. More if you want to take a scenic walk. The area is very scenic.
An amazing display of Americana - highly recommended place to check out when you are in town!
Had a lot of fun and learned a lot about Norman Rockwell.
Beautiful artwork, lovely grounds.
Learned a lot! His life history is really an eye on life in the US through the years.
Great place and the tour was terrific lovely docent
Amazing collection. Seeing his workspace brings life to the collection. Could spend the day just viewing the magazine covers
So wasn’t to sure what to expect when I was told by my wife that a day trip was goin to happen and we were goin to the Norman Rockwell museum in Massachusetts. But I was pleasantly surprised by the whole place. I knew I was goin to enjoy the paintings and all but the grounds were beautiful and don’t miss the workshop in the back it’s great(red building). Also weather permitting bring lunch because there is picnic tables and beautiful open areas to relax or have lunch on the grounds. and the surrounding towns around the museum are very nice and visually pleasing with lots of parks and lakes and mountains. So check my photos and you can see that it looks like a postcard but I took them. So. I recommend going and bring friends and kids. There is lots of things for kids to do also that the museum has specifically for children to do...
Docent talks are great. Wonderful collection.
This place is amazing. If you thought Rockwell just painted sappy americana magazine covers, you would be so wrong. Yes, he was a commercial artist, but the range and quality of the work is astonishing. I’ve been here twice, and feel like I want to go back at least once more to spend time with a couple of pieces and hear more of his story.
An inside look at the life, works and studio of a quintessential American artist, possibly the most popular American artist of the 20th century. Be prepared for $20 per adult admission cost. But just encountering the renderings of The Four Freedoms was worth it to me.
This museum surprised me with how much I liked it and how informative it was about that time in American history.
I've always enjoyed and respected what I've seen of Rockwells work, but seeing first hand, you can pick up a lot more detail. On several occasions during our visit, a staff member gave short but detailed explanations of the what we were looking at- ranging from the artists bio, his art, the subject matter and even the models used for his paintings. This was a wonderful experience that helped my appreciated Rockwell even more. Check it out- you'll be glad you did.
It is a very relaxing, enjoyable day. You can learn the real stories behind his great works. They also currently have a Rube Goldberg exhibit there. It is worth the trip.
Museum grounds were beautiful. There is a free app that allows you to do the audio! Make sure to bring your ear buds. The gift shop is great. Small Cafe area with a great covered seating area. Pretty walking paths. Of course the artwork is beautiful.
This was an amazing place. To see some of the Great paintings in person of Norman Rockwell was Wonderful! To see the brushstrokes and the detail of the paintings was magnificent. They had a great virtual reality event downstairs for the kids to enjoy. Recommended a visit if you're in the area.
To be able to see many of his painting in one location was wonderfull. Every painting on the cover of Saturday Evening Post are in one room.
Ideal Americana. Sesame Street exhibit. Mr. Rockwell's later works as well.
The museum was beautiful with so many original works from Norman Rockwell & Rube Goldberg. Sheer visual delight for those that enjoy iconic American art.
Beautiful area. Wonderful guides and loved all the pictures, artwork.
Amazing art work, can spend hours looking at his work.
Really enjoyed visiting the museum. The docent was great and we enjoyed hearing the history of Norman's career. His art was fantastic.
The Norman Rockwell Museum was very informative and interesting. Loved all of his illustrations, especially, 'The Golden Rule' and 'The Girl At The Mirror'.
This is a GREAT day trip from the Central New York area. Rockwell is the visual American historian. Nearby, you can go get a Sammich at Alice's Restaurant....for real!
Great museum and I definitely recommend the free gallery talk before walking through
You owe it to yourself to visit. The museum is awesome the grounds are beautiful you'll not be disappointed.
The grounds are stunning and of course the art inside is great. They have a nice patio in the back with drinks and snacks so if you're there with kids you can take a break.
We stopped here on our way home from camping over night at Mt. October State Park on a rainy day. This was our first time visiting the location. Years ago, we visited the museum when it was located in town. The museum is pricey, but does offer $2 off for seniors. The collection of illustrations were excellent with many originals and well worth the visit.
Ohh norman you're really great
I came out of this exhibit with a new level of respect and admiration for this American Icon!
This is a very nice museum to visit. There is a lot of information about the artist and artworks. Plus other artists works on exhibit.
Beautiful grounds. Museum houses paintings by Rockwell
Inclusive informational loop video & many works of this iconic American artist.
So much more than I expected, and I expected a lot. Check out his studio that was moved to this location. I was surprised by the connection to Erik Erickson and how much of his influential work was on display.
Another great place to take the family. A little pricey though. 2.50 for a bottle of water?
It's in a middle of nowhere though, totally worth to check
Great place a must see when you are in the area. Many notable paintings on display, along with preserved studio.
Fantastic illustrator! Wonderful museum!
Icon American artist! Museum depicted his life spot on. I was fastinated on how he came up with his paintings and Sat. Evening Post covers. Well worth the trip. Not really geared towards small guests, but they do have drawing classes.
What great place to see much of his work and to be so well informed on his life, times, and artistic process!
I like illustrations, and Rockwell was great. This museum is a gem
Dan was a wonderful guide. Our experience couldn't gave been better. A trip back in time. Will be back this summer.
